Used them during our local 24 hour race, never hit the dirt.!!!! Granted it wasn't THAT muddy, but there was enough to go around. Our weekly ride (Mililani) is always muddy, and it works great there as well.

hard to get on and off rims, yet to have a pissing rain mud puncture, but not looking forward to it. Encourages you to ride in abysmal conditions, trashing any moving parts on your bike.

Bottom Line:
I rate these tyres.
I ride a trail that is rutted by motorbikes and 4-wheelers, so you can imagine the problems when it is bog city.
These transformed the trail. I never realised it was possible to ride down the ridge of a rut and not slide into the trough at some stage. They track like demons, and let you ride crazy lines, even where the rut slopes away into the bog.
I haven't tested them in the hell-sticky-clay, but what tyre will handle that anyway?
I suppose other mud specific tyres do a similarly good job. If you have a bog in your neck of the woods they are well worth getting for those sloppy days.

these tires really hook up in slick muddy conditions I ride at capital forest and the mud there is very unpredictable these tires knived right through even thick clay like mud

the rear has such tall tread that it has actually improved my climbing. The combination of these tires are very mud worthy. The rear can be used for drier conditions but the front is mud specific. I am very impressed.

I have the front version & thrash around woods alot. These puppies are perfect at digging in with deep tread on the loose surface, making cornering a real pleasure giving confidence to the rider + keeping the skin ON your body.

DEFINITELY do not use this tyre on the ashphalt! It is just downright INSANE, and if you're unfortunate enough to ever be caught in rain, well, it was nice knowing ya!

Love this tyre in the trails...have now adopted their 2.5 White Tiger Kevlar beaded tyre which is basically a stronger & bigger version with the weight benefit of kevlar. It grips like no other with strong sidewalls. Didn't clear all mud by any means but then show me a tyre that can!

Strengths:
These tyres are great for riding in the heavy winter mud of Oxfordshire! Went out yesterday on our local run riding across freshly drilled fields - all my mates ending up dragging their bikes across the field so clogged up but I just carried on riding!
Weaknesses:
Slightly heavy. Very scary on tarmac!
Bike Setup:
Coyote HT3, Z3 light forks, full XT, 517 mavic rims.
Bottom Line:
Great tyre - well worth the money £25 a pair. You will not get bogged down by mud with these.

In the Charlotte-area, a lot of the soil is clay. When it gets wet ... it's nasty. This tire does an excellent job of gripping the soil and self-cleaning the mud.

Great mud tire. Ideal for that muddy race or winter racing. Cleans good. 1.85(good frame clearance)

Doesn't seem to clean as well in really sticky stuff (but hey, what does?) Really hard to get off of rim.

Bottom Line:
I got these tires as a Christmas gift to use for winter racing. They worked very well in snow. I use them with my Continental Snake-Bite tubes for muddy spring-time races and they really hook up on the climbes and leave the pack behind. I've also had good use of these for downhill and dual slalam.

Bottom Line:
I've ridden these tires for over a year and am very happy with them. They provide substantially more traction that non-mud tires, even in mud that is several inches deep. Have rarely lost traction with these puppies on. Downside is that the rear sometimes doesn't clear all that well. Have also used them in 6" of unplowed snow and they still provided traction.

Bottom Line:
These are a great set of tires for muddy conditions. I've got the 1.85 kevlar beads, and would easily buy them again. They ride through the mud without bogging down, they provide good traction, and the front tire clears mud almost instantly without throwing mud all over you. I've used them in cake-batter type mud, as well as wet puddle mud, and I haven't experienced any slipping or traction loss yet. In fact, these may make you OVER confident and you might start to think you can ride these over anything- even stuff you can't do. I ended up getting tossed off my bike once trying to ride along the side of a muddy hill when the front tire washed out and I went running off the bike. Something I really should have been doing. Only complaint- the rear doesn't clear mud as well as the front, but it still manages to get traction since the knobs are so tall. 4 for value since they were like $28 ea, which is pretty cheap, but I like 'em cheaper than that (mythos are like $20), and 5 for overall since they work so well and make me happy.

They do very well in technical loose terrain. Climbing up loose rock face was significantly easier
Weaknesses:

Bottom Line:
Basically I bought these when I was in Kansas. The area was pretty muddy and a bike shop guy recommended them. The first trail I tried was fairly muddy and the tires just collected the mud and didnt clear. The knobs are long enough that I still had a little traction but I was rather disappointed in their mud performance. They did do pretty well though on another trail that was loose and rocky they seemed to climb real well. Two stars for these since they don't do what they are suppose to do very well. I would give them a 4 for loose rocky terrain though.

from Mud plugging UK Date Reviewed: January 29, 1999
Bottom Line:
These tyres are great for Mud plugging. I origenally bought the rear, having found it grips on slippery climbs like no other tyre I've used. It wears a bit quick but for the tenatious grip on fast slippery corners & under braking in mud, it doesn't bother me. Having noticed all this, I decided to replace the Mich W/Gripper DH Mud I had on the front which was good but just to bloody heavy & wide for sensable XC work, I bought the front. When on the bike it looks a little thin (but then again I was used to the 2.2 W/Gripper) & makes u unsure as to wether to hammer it in muddy bends. But boy does it grip on bends, so much so I turned a little to hard on one down hill bend, but I didn't follow the bike. Arse over Tit . Top tyres, but don't use them to much on Tarmac.

Bottom Line:
A great rear traction tire. It really digs in when climbing or cornering hard (maybe a little too much on cornering) in loose mud. Much more grip than my Conti Cross Country 2.0 and much, much , much more than Ritchey Mud Max. I couldn't afford both so I am running the rear with a Missile 2.25 up front....a blast.Confidence inspiring. Really sticky mud shedding is OK, not great, however knobs are long and stiff enough that they manage to poke through the mud layer.
