Description:Masterpiece posts weigh approx 40 grams less than the same size Elite model post This weight reduction was accomplished while maintaining the strength and durability expected from a Thomson Seatpost

Thomson accomplished this weight reduction by machining the seatpost all over--- including the oval inner diameter. We were able to hold closer tolerances by machining than by extrusion alone. Machining all over on an already beautiful design makes the Masterpiece Seatpost a work of art.

193 grams for 27.2 x 330

    Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Light as carbon, but 10x as strong; ribbed post prevents sliding and slippage; machined from a single piece of 7000 series aluminum; set-and-forget adjustment; looks stunning, in silver
    Weaknesses:None.....not even price.

Bike Setup:2005 Cannondale F2000SL Optimo; Ultra Fatty Headshok 80mm; Mavic XC717/DT Swiss 240s wheelset; Avid BB7 brakeset; Specialized Phenom SL saddle, SRAM X-0 rear derailleur; SRAM X-7 trigger shifters; Shimano XTR M952 front derailleur; Ritchey WCS Carbon flat bar; Crank Bros. Candy 4ti clipless pedals......equals a 20lb XC racer.
Bottom Line:Strong like bull, and the last seatpost your bike will ever need. Thomson also makes landing gears, for jet airliners- talk about SAFE! From now on- I buy my frames to fit the seatpost. Get one if you can afford it!!!

    Weaknesses:Absolutely nothing.

    Bike Setup:The Bloody Bahstud!
Bottom Line:I suppose this is the seatpost to end all seatpost, the benchmark seatpost in which all other seatpost should be measured against. Adding this seatpost helped trim some excess fat off my bike, which is much lighter than the stock POS seatpost that it came with. The design appears to be flawless. I can't find a single weakness. It's lightweight, durable, beautiful, and oh so easy to install and adjust to your liking. This seatpost will probably get you laid. Keep an eye for good deals on ebay and you might get lucky like I did.

Strengths:This is a Masterpiece not just in name but in design. Hand this thing to any machinist and ask them. You can't touch this kind of quality. Yes it is expensive but it is worth it.

Seat posts are one of those places that your bike gains weight and you don't even think about it. To have a piece of metal that weighs less than a lot of carbon posts and is as strong as an ox is a thing of beauty.
Weaknesses:Nothing at this point. I weigh 200lbs. If there is a weakness I will find it and report it.

Just buy it, You know you want to.

Bottom Line:I have the Elite and Masterpiece with the Selle Italia SLR and SLR XP - they're a sick combo. I can tell you that there is absolutely no difference with seatposts regardless of ti, aluminum, machined, carbon etc. The only difference is looks amd the way the seat mounts which does not affect performance. I am a yuppie and style freak and the only reason I got these was the look and name recognition, period. Now go ride.

Bike Setup:'06 Kona "The King" , 24.5 lbs
Bottom Line:Wanted to get the bike a little lighter for racing . Wasn't sure if it would hold up to MTB use . There's 8.5" above the clamp . I'm 160 lbs. , i've come down really hard on the seat hopping back on the bike quite a few times and the post is straight as an arrow . I thought for sure it'd be bent . This is a time when you get what you pay for . They claimed 193g , mine was 191.5 . It's nice to see a weight incorrect in the other direction . Other than rechecking the bolts after the first couple rides , i haven't touched it . If you can afford it , buy it .

    Strengths:unbelievably well crafted,good warranty,reputation and lightweight.

Similar Products Used:thomson elite, extralite the post(rail fittings fell apart!)USE carbon alien(apart from fiddly screws it never failed me)
Bike Setup:05 trek oclv 110 top fuel 100.....24 lbs with xtr discs
Bottom Line:because the seat tube of the carbon fuel has a large diameter i felt the USE carbon alien looked too thin on the bike...i could of got a ritchey carbon wcs post at the same thickness as the thomson but my lbs persuaded me that the carbon post is nice but the thomson masterpiece is for life!
there was no problem with the elite post but at that time i simply fancied the carbon alien but i've changed bike since to the carbon fuel and the masterpiece looks really good on the bike...perhaps this might be my last post i'll ever need to buy!!!we shall see
btw that buster guy belows review is obviousley tongue in cheek as the masterpiece only came out a couple of months ago!

    Date Reviewed: June 16, 2004
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $207.00
    Purchased At:Leisure Lakes
Strengths:Lightweight to rival fragile carbon posts, solid adjustment, percieved strength and warranty you can trust
Weaknesses:It looks just like a normal elite post apart from the tiny masterpiece logo, way expensive, perhaps too short for some.
Similar Products Used:Thomson elite / USE carbon / USE titanium / Race Face XYO
Bike Setup:Cannondale F800 with left DLR + lightweight upgrades
Bottom Line:This post is the only sub 200gm I feel confident in using. I gave up on the USE post because of adjustment.

This post is way stronger than anything else out there for the same weight and does not come with the "treat like glass" problems of carbon posts.

This post is damn expensive but I suppose you are paying for all of the extra machining going into the post. It is certainly worth it. I cannot tell any difference between this post and my old elite except for the weight.

4 chillis for value 'cos I know it is expensive but I think it is worth it.
