    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Strengths:Nice and stiff
no problem with flex considering I ride a surly S.S on the hills for racing and fun rides.
Weaknesses:Interesting to hear about the breaks because I thrash my singlespeed when I race it and I way about 180lbs. I need stiff cranks for my Surly to get power down.. no problems so far.
Similar Products Used:Race Face turbine One of the best.
    Bike Setup:Syncros Anniversery set (hdset,stem,bb,crnks,hndlbr,hub,post

    Favorite Trail:framebreaker
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Geoffrey Butler Cycles Croydon Surrey uk
    Strengths:Shiny,Stiff
Weaknesses:18/07/02 left hand crank snapped as I pulled away from traffic lights, I was lucky not to be run over. The break occured precisely half way where the crank 'kinks' back straight before it reaches pedal and exactly along the upright of the engraved 'y' in syncros. I think that the engraving creates a stress riser which combined with the stiffness of the material and the fact that the cranks are not anodised to prevent corrosion makes for a design susceptible to breakage. I would strongly advise against buying these and recommend if you own them to at least have them examined if not binned, not easy I know if you've paid out for expensive gear but your life may be on the line.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Strongarm, and 19 years of racing on Campag products without a single crank breakage before the syncros episode!

    Weaknesses:Costly for having something different.
    Similar Products Used:many
    Bike Setup:Still Fat Chance hardtail
Bottom Line:To be fair I like them a lot.they were expensive and they don`t really offer much more in performance terms than XT but hey! I can change the rings when its needed and i`ll still ahve a cool ,light strong chainset.

    Strengths:Weight, looks, reputation
Weaknesses:The alloy chainring bolts on the granny ring loosen without warning(Syncros rings and bolts used)Threadlock needed.

Bike Setup:Fat Chance Yo eddy pretty much custom spec.
Bottom Line:Good cranks but to be honest no better than Shimano XT or LX even in the performance stakes.Splined certainly seems like the way forward.

    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $230.00
    Purchased At:Cyclepath
Strengths:Look great and very light. Nice shifting responce with Shimano setup.
    Weaknesses:Snapped!!!!!!!
Similar Products Used:White Bros. and Raceface
Bike Setup:Look HT1.4 with XTR and XT parts.
Bottom Line:They are fine for weekend kicking around but for prolonged hard use, forget it if you are over 150lbs. I'm only 170 and these thing snapped like they were made from wood or something! I should be thankful that I wasn't run over!!

Anyway, bought some Raceface arms and they are "Way" stiffer and more responcive.

    Price Paid: $225.00
    Purchased At:International Bicycle Cneter
    Strengths:looks good, strong
    Weaknesses:Kinda pricey
    Similar Products Used:Cook bros, shimano
Bike Setup:Independent Fab Deluxe, Marzocchi Z2 Atom 80, XTR and Syncros Bits, Mavic Crossride wheels, blah blah blah
Bottom Line:Nice cranks. I push 200 lbs during the bike season and I have had zero problems with these puppies. I'm suprised to hear that someone snapped 'em since I have beat on them a lot and have had no problems. Too bad Syncros doesn't make 'em any more. 3 road rash for bein' kinda pricey, 5 road rash for stiffnes and killer looks

    Favorite Trail:Silver Arrow (rip)
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $200.00
Strengths:Very stiff considering the width of the arms. Nice finish. BUT...see below
Weaknesses:SNAPPED. Right along the "O" where the Syncros logo is forged into the drive-side arm.
Similar Products Used:too many to list
Bottom Line:Bottom line is I didn't die, so that's good. I snapped em in a VERY busy intersection just getting the jump on a green light. No epic huck off a cliff, no North Shore style bad ass trick. Just ridin along. And luckily I have a good LBS that handled the warranty for me...GT bought Syncros awhile back so getting a reply out of them was impossible. They lasted awhile but broke with out warning...beware. Coulda been a 5 rating for light weight and stiffness but the snapping makes it a 3...

    Date Reviewed: May 17, 2000
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Stiff, light enough, not a single creak from the day I installed them - not bad for a geezer scaling in at 200lbs. Threads robust and chased. Not many around!
Weaknesses:They look kinda sruffy after a few english winters - they are not anodised, so they could be re-polished if you have that much spare time!
Similar Products Used:cook bros e-crank (creak-a-thon) tioga revolvers (split in two) Xt (noodles)

    Favorite Trail:Hill Country Natural Area
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Strengths:Lighter than XTR...mine came in at 440g.
Steel chain ring bolts rather than cheesey aluminum ones.
    Stiff, stiff, stiff.
    Shiny finish.
    Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Caramba Double Barrel Cranks (freakishly stiff)
Bike Setup:'98 Litespeed Obed,'98 Judy SL, King/Valiant/Rev wheels, Syncros cranks, chainrings, Crank-o-matic bolts, BB, stem, seatpost, QRs. 22 lbs.
Bottom Line:I'm 145 lb. so these cranks were ideal. They're stiff and light and the finish is cool lookin'. Paired up with a Syncros BB and Crank-o-matic bolts it all came together very well.

    Great stuff. No complaints here.

    Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Touchey, shiney, feely, oh, and light
    Weaknesses:Dunno?
Similar Products Used:Campag' Record OR. ShimaNO XTR etc...
    Bike Setup:Far too light
Bottom Line:Nice. These cranks are really shiny, and light. I just love how shiny they are. I love shiny things.

Seriously, I've been using these for a while now, and they are really good, suprisingly stiff, very light, and they stay shiny.

Well worth the price, a very underlooked crank. Buy one, spent the rest of the day polishing...

Submitted by Joe a cross-country rider from Malaysia
    Date Reviewed: November 4, 1998
    Bottom Line:
I just received this piece of bike candy from the good offices of Steve Ramirez at BikeWorld yesterday. Pimpy! was the first word uttered when I pulled these shiny babies out of the FedEx box. The next hour was spent running my fingers over the gleaming hand-polished surfaces, admiring the indelible syncros logo that's forged onto the crank-arm and looking at my own reflected image.I guess there's a visual and tactile appeal to these Crankset that's not quite present in the industrial-chic look of XTR and Raceface. It's almost... almost... sexy.According to the marketing puff, these Crankset are near-net forged, meaning (cold) forged close to its final shape. Then they are CNC'd on the side of te arms and on some parts of the spider to arrive at the final shape. Finally hand-polished to a mirror-finish, that, I suspect, will disappear on my first ride. (I'm taking photos of them before then!)444g for the 175mm arms without chainring bolts or chainrings. Lighter than the advertised 465g. They come with the granny chainring bolts only. No crank arm bolts either. Dura-Ace middle and big ring bolts are an additional 11g, old-style XTR Ti crank bolts are 20g per pair (Dura-Ace only 18g). BCD is 5-arm hyperdrive-C compatible (98/54mm or something).5 chillies for aesthetics. No grading for functionality yet, so 4 chillies for now.
