Bought a Syncros front hub almost three years ago. Sold the wheelset to a friend after a few months. He used it for about a year, and then the axle broke. He used it with the track bolts, not a QR. It seems the axle is too stiff/brittle to cope with the tension from being bolted on.Last summer I bought a new hub, same make. I needed a front hub that could be bolted on, because this gives an incredible increase in steering precision. Well, the first thing I notticed was, that there was a lot of slop in the wheel. I tried to adjust the bearings, and I actually had to tigthen them so much that the wheel barely spun around.I went back to a QR, and then it worked find. I guess the hub was designed to work with the axle in compression from the QR, but still comes with a bolt-on option!!I took the hub apart to find the problem, and the bearings and axle just fell out!!! Most cartridge bearings are designed to be press-fitted so I don't know what's up with this.To be able to race the next day, I Loctite'd the bearings and axle in place, and off I went. Haven't had a problem with loose bearings since.Now that that problem was fixed, I thought I could live with the hub. But that wa until the next problem identified itself:Whenever I took the wheel off, I had to re-adjust my v-brakes when I put it back in. This being my first year on V's (I used Maguras and then discs for years, finally decided to go with V's to save weight on my XC racebike. Hated the modulation, and is now back on Maguras.), I thought the return springs were bent too far out whenever I spread the brakes to get the wheel in and out, and didn't think much of it.When I finally replaced the V's with Maguras, it became apparent that the brakes were not the problem. The wheels seemed to be out of dish. Re-dished it on the bike, and it looked fine. Until I took it off and put it back on again. Finally took the bike down to my wheelbuilder, and he found that the hole in the axle was not in center on one side. So depending on the rotation of the axle in the fork dropout, the wheel would lean to one side or the other!!! I had to make a little mark on the axle nuts to make sure I install it the same way every time.A Norwegian importer contacted Syncros about a new axle, and they simpy said Unavailable!.BTW, my friend gave up on getting his broken axle replaced over a year ago.Never a Sycros hub for me again! Ole.

The front hub works pretty well. I had a nightmare with the rear (junk IMHO) but so far (2.5 months) nothing has gone wrong. Mind you, the design is fairly basic so there aren't too many excuses if something does break. I have opened it since it was built into a wheel and did not find any traces of contamination so I'd say the seals are working. I wonder whether it really has INA bearings since the rear hub's bearings did not have any markings on them - they could be removed by hand so I checked them over. Usually bearings are laser etched with the manufacturer's name and lot # but these were devoid of markings. Hopefully I haven't been shortchanged on the front...

I rote the Hardcore-hub for about 1.5 years, when I decided to rebuilt the wheel with radial spokes. I e-mailed a guy from Syncros asking if the flange would be strong enough to do this. He replied it would be. So I went ahead and rebuilt the wheel. After three months of riding it...ping.. At first I thought a spoke snapped, but inspection showed a piece of the flange had broken of! Syncros replaced it under warranty, so I hope my new (red) hub will last longer. The bearings on my previous hub hadn't required much adjusting and were just as smooth as on the day I bought them, so I don't expect any problems there.3 stars for the shell. 5 stars for the bearings and built quality.. overall :4 stars.

I don't believe it ... a Synros product that I'm disappointed in (I admit I'm a fan, with a rig outfitted with Syncros' bars, bar ends, seat post and rims). The hub nut kept coming loose on me ... tighten, ride for a few miles, and the wheel was wobbling. This happened over and over, until I finally had the wheel rebuilt with an XTR hub. I've yet to send the hub back to the factory, but will do so soon and have found them always to be very good about fixing what they make. Unfortunately, a flunking grade for this product.

I am one of the few lucky one's to get the original RED hubs. Does that make them too exclusive to use ..... NO. This is one great hub Sod the price untouched for 3 years, at last one that lasts! Been through Nuke proof (really poorly made and finished) and a few others and nothing even comes close, mud, crud and dog shit proof, still looks great and spins forever and has only needed one adjustment in 3 years. Yes this hub is a ripper, forget the rest buy the best. Sadly only in black I have the red one!? Go hard.
