Bottom Line:
Iread a lot of reviews where people say they taco and bend these rims easily. I have them on three diferent bikes. IF you're wheel is tensioned and built properly, it will hold up to almost anything. IF you buy a machine built wheel( most of the wheels pre-built in the stores) you need to get them re-tensioned at least twice before it sets in properly. Don't give bad reviews on a wheel when its the way it was built and the rider DOES NOT maintain his components.

Can't recommend these as it bent on me the first ride. Maybe had I landed everything perfectly they would have been allright, but in my opinion a rim should withstand a little abuse now and then. The rhyno lite that I replaced took way more abuse before I piled in headfirst and tacoed it. This time I'll drop a bit more cash for something sturdier.

These are okay wheels. Not great but not bad either.
If you are into serious freeride where they would see constant 5+ foot drops or if you ride park and do 180's all day, I wouldn't recommend them.
Myself, i do all of the above, the difference is that I only use it on the front, where there is a lot less force. In my case they have held up okay with only minor bends that I can straighten myself.
If used in the rear, I wouldn't trust them.
If you ride all mountain or XC they are great; weight aside.

Had it been a mavic, I could possibly have got a bike shop to true it up, but the singletrack ended up resembling a pringle, it would'nt even get through the forks with the tyre off.
If they come as standard on your bike I'd be in no rush to replace them as crashing aside they last ok with regular trueing, but if your looking for a new rim for your bike I'd go for Mavic as they are far superior rims.

I recently rammed my front tire into a steep bank trying to climb it and it bottomed out my 5 inch fork and the front rim held up quite well. Most of the time I land well off the jumps but once and a while I land front tire first and the rims still hold up. Overall, I have not had to get the rims trued yet and they seem to be holding up. I would recommend them for cross country and light dirt jumping but if you are going big over 8 foot drops they may have problems.

The key to getting the most out of your rim is the build. I'd wager that most of us got these on special mated to either Deore XT or Deore hubs (machine built). Too bad for us. After that, you really need to sanity check your use. If you're 140lbs or less, you probably can get away with DH'ing these rims. If you're a clyde, these rims are for rough XC. And if you're in between, so is the use.
I'm a big boy and have 3 years on the rims. I've nosed them in from 5 feet, flat landed them, jumped stairs etc. They've needed a tune up, but they're still rolling along quite well.

I bought these rims/wheels as part of a build kit from Wheel World. When I first got them I was amazed by how light they were and was kinda skeptical but over a year of use later, they have stood up to all kinds of riding. I've taken then to various trails in at least 6 different states and they have stood up to everything on trails or jumps. I'm not a big fan of drop-offs but have done a few and held up no prob. Great overall product. Well worth the price if you do XC, Trekking, DJ, light Freeride, and light Downhill. The only reason my rear wheel bent, I got hit by a car. Yup. It took an accident to damage it.

I Weigh 260 and these wheels are going to hold up without a Problem. Just a quick example One of my Riding Budds runs SIngle tracks on his Foes Monodhs. He had his rear wheel Built at a Bikeshop i wont mention, But he has now had his rear wheel retentioned four or five times. The spokes are litterally coming unthreaded. This particular shop was bragging about there computer Aided Builds which garanteed no problems. Well his Front wheel Has seen Just as Much abuse and havent even come untrued. the abuse Includes two seasons at southridge Usa Sea otter Were he took first in class and UTah and a couple other major races. The difference was in who Built it. i Work at a Bike shop and i am there lead wheel Man atm and i Learned from Dale Cooper an actuall DT swiss certified wheel Builder. I have yet to have a wheel come back with a Problem. Ill be Posting a follow up in a few Months when i see How much abuse Mine take. Like i said i am 260 and Plan to Beat the hell out of these wheels. If you want really strong Wheels take them to someone who has good expeerience and alot of it also

These rims come untrue so fast. Within three weeks after having them they started wobbling a cm either way. After a month, my wheel could not spin because it was pressed against my chin stay. The biggest thing I ever did on them was a 8 foot and i am a smooth rider.I ended up throwing them out because the sidewall of the rim collapsed when I was just doing a catwalk. They also ripped the bead of my tire when this happened and they were 60 dollar DH tires. I now have BFR (Sun Mammothes) and they are great. They have a similar price, but are heavier-duty. The Sun Single Tracks have held up to everything (aggressive XC, moderate 3-4 ft. jumps/drops) and I just can't justify $400-$800 for a pair of wheels like the Crossmax series. If you want a tough rim that isn't too heavy, then you won't regret the Sun Single Tracks and you probably won't need a new set of rims for a long while.

i had it trued twice already and recently broke a spoke on the rear wheel (accumulated stress probably from hopping and dropping far too many times) but i'm guessing that it's more because of my own and limitations and mistakes as a rider.

I have ALWAYS taco'd my rims, but have only had the spokes tightened ONCE on these rims in two years of riding (about 3 times a week). No flat spots, no untrue, just great, dependable rims to thrash on. I run Panaracer D/H Pro 2.3 tires or 2.1 depending on the ride. Inflation to about 42psi. Light enough for racing 24 hour events and dependable enough to go romp with your friends. I give these 6 Chili's! After two years of abuse, it doesn't get much better than this. For those of you who reviewed them below doing 15 foot drops, these are more for single track and close cource racing, not drops. If you want to drop 20 feet, get something different, get real!

ok well these rims are great when i was a t work one of the downhillers i know had them on his DH comp...so i bought them and it was a good choice ive taken 8 foot drops and never once put a bend in the rim if your smart and dont want any nipples backing out use spoke freeze...its like lock tight but it not a strong but keeps the rims in tru..

none there are no problems with these rims

great i changed my back rim to a doublewide to see hows these ride..heard they were good so trying new stuff out but if you want a great rim then get single tracks 32H or 36H...i ride the 32H's off 8 foot drops so if you get the 36H's then dont worry about breaking them..

these rims are great. most of the problems other people have are from lack of upkeep, not enough tire pressure, or being stupid. i have landed 15+ foot drops with these laced to deore hubs, raced dh, rode urban, ns style trails, and yes even xc (well, sort of) If they are built properly they will last a long time. i ride gazzaloddi 2.7's w.19-22 psi in em and have never had a problem. i try to not land to flats when possible (there is a reason for trannys people) i retensioned them after 2-3 rides after i 1st built em, and i rarely have to true them (even when they arent enough out of whack to warrant a trueing...its my pet peeve to not have arrow-straight wheels) however, as with any other freeride component, they will eventually break. there is no avoiding breaking parts, the only thing you can do is prolong it by maintaining you equipment end rant/review

Really light! I have these rims set up with Chris King hubs, double butted Al spokes and Al nipples. They can take anything xc riding can dish out.
Weaknesses:
They are good for xc riding, but not for anything more than that. If you jump 'em or wreck, then you are going to be buying a new rim!

Bottom Line:
These rims are great for racing, normal xc riding, time trials and anything that isn't overly abusive. If you like to play free ride bike with your xc, you will taco these rims. As a front rim it seems they can take the abuse, but the back cannot handle the impact of a jump or a wreck. I say the front is ok, because you usually land with the rear tire first off a jump. Buy 'em if you want a light weight rim similar to a road bike rim in strength. Don't get 'em if you are really a free ride/ downhiller at heart. I own a downhill bike for those “not so sane days”.

Solid, strong and stable. I purchased the wheelset with XT hubs from Jenson. They are a heavier than I anticipated, but it is a good trade off for the strength; I'm a 200 lb rider. i wanted to beef up my gary fisher when i first started getting into freeriding and so i figured i could use a stronger rear rim. it turns out that the singletrack wasn't that much of an improvement onver the stock bontragers that came on my bike. low urban drops no higher than 3' put the wheel out of true and they flatspotted easily with the same psi i had used on the bontragers, not getting any flatspots. truing them wasn't too bad but they wouldn't stay true very long. probably not a bad rim for normal trailriding but since it is marketed as a ds/fr rim i'm pretty disappointed. i'm giving it one chili becasue they were a waste of money and should've lasted longer than they did.

Bottom Line:
I am what many consider an agressive trail rider. I am not going to huck myself off of a house or anything, but I certainly like to take the most technical line in a trail. If that means getting a little air between me and the ground, or over that big rock so be it. Ever since I have ridden my Sugar + with 4" of travel in the front and rear (2 years now) I have been replacing spokes in my rear wheel every week, or couple of rides. Although part of that may have been due to my lack of maintenance, I am not the type of person to go over my entire bike with a fine tooth comb after every ride. As a result the Bontrager Disc along with the Mavic XC disc wheels suffered the same fate, kept popping spokes in the rear. Ever since I went to this rim (with XT hub) I have not had 1 broken spoke in 3 months. Furthermore everytime I go through the wheel (hand check every couple of rides) I rarely have to give a spoke a turn for tension. A number of my FreeRiding friends run these rims on their Bullit's.
I love this rim (remember I am only running it on the rear)

Bulletproof, bombproof, and half the weight of my old bombproof Mammoths. I love the disk only rims because I found a little trick. Spray the rims and tires with (OK, don't laugh here) Armor All Tire Shine. Once you go out in the wet, muddy conditions, the mud won't stick and the water beads off. And your tires look clean! ;^) Overall, I've been hard on these rims sincce buying the bike and still haven't even managed to put the smallest of warbles into the rim. I do 3 to 4 foot drops, nothing too great, but considering that I have taco'd all of my older rims on the same trail (except the Mammoths), I think these rims are great to hold up as they have. From looking at the rims, I doubt they could take a serious drop (10+ feet), but anything under that I would consider do'able. Great performance, great looks, great price!

I got these for what I consider a song compared to what other wheelsets cost these days. I think they are even cheaper now from Cycle Path. ANyway, I got these for XC riding because I'm 605/200, and didn't want to take any chances with puny rims breaking on me, although I have never broke a set. These are no maintenance so far, except for an occasional hub teardown after muddy rides. I have bashed these hard on rocky rooted trails on my old hardtail, and they just keep going. If you're a weight weenie, other rims will save you about a pound overall, but if you're into making sure you'll get from point A to point B, then these are will fit the bill
