There are lighter rims, stronger rims, more attractive rims - but very few match the price/performance ratio of the CR17A. When I needed a new set of wheels recently, the CR18 (very similar to the CR17A), came up as a first choice rim again. Sure, I'd rather have UFO's or Mavic 517's - if someone else was willing to buy them for me.
Rims are not high-tech items - if they're designed and manufactured properly, they rarely fail. 95% of wheel problems are caused by poor assembly, not inferior rims. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Like everything out there you get what you pay for so for the cost don't expect these rims to last forever. I have gone through 2 rear rims in about 18 months but the front rim is doing just fine. The rear rims just give out over time since they carry a bit more weight. I only 145 lbs, I race expert and I think they are maybe a rim designed a bit more for the recreationl rider because at my weight I don't exactly bash rims too hard. At this time, my - red - CR17A are the best rims I have tried. I've got them laced with black DT competition spokes on a XTR hub (R) and Specialized Stout (F) and, after 4 months of trail, they only needed minimal truing - BTW, I weight 185 lbs... Even though spoke lacing is critical regarding the strenght of a wheel, I still think the CR17 is a very strong rim, due in part to the thickness of its walls (compared to many rims, even Mavic). Of course, the braking surface is not as smooth as a machined Mavic, but, hey, you got what you pay for... (BTW, the Sun XC0° do have machined sidewalls). A bonus (and a determining factor in my case) was that CR17 are offered in anodized colors. It puts life in your wheels and on your bike ! In a word, I feel the CR17 deserves 5 chilies. | Overall Rating: |

Well, not to happy with these rims so far. They work, but the seams have become skewed and rip apart my brake pads. I've also replaced three new tubes (thinking they were pinch flats) because the nipple holes were not buffed down and were cutting the tubes. The rim tape was just a narrow piece of rubber. I've now installed some Velox rim tape and this should surely stop the cookie cutter effect on my tubes. Looking to upgrade next season. Either some Mavic or Bontragers. | Overall Rating: |

Have a set of these on LX hubs - overall I am pretty happy with them. In four months I have ony had to true the front once after my first ride (not counting the crash which bent two spokes - tree stump through the wheel... tightened them up and everything is fine, though). The back, on the other hand, has been a bit more troublesome - they need a little attention maybe every other ride or so - but given my size (6'3, 220lbs), somewhat less than graceful riding style, and the nature of the trails in this area (lots of rocks and fair sized drop-offs) this is probably to be expected... The rims have a 'coupla spots where the rim wall bent a bit, but I have had good success just bending them back into place. Not stellar performance, but for the price, they work fine. I have some Sun rims on both my road bikes, one is new and has stayes in true well. The other set probably has 3000 miles on it, I built 'em myself, and I have only had to true them once. Every rim from Sun is soft, sidewalls are generally short, and sidewall wear in wet and muddy weather is premature. We really have little good to say about this product. Rim life is half that of a Mavic 217 or Syncros XLT. Syncros is even less money. Rhyno lites don't even have the staying power of the Mavic or Syncros... and true D.H.'ers don't use Rhyno Lite's, they use Mavic 121 or equivalent.
