These forks had to be the worst forks i ever invested in the seals leaked like the titanic and the flex on the stantions was terrible, if you had a bolt through axle they were ok but if you had a skewer the bottom of the forks came away from the stantions and wobbled like a b1tch riding on flat pavement, they were fine for a year but ive had shivers for 3 years and they are still perfect. For the money these forks are great. The seals are leaky until they are broken in (around 10 hours riding), but then seal up very well. They steer great and the steering lock is excellent thanks to the offset crowns. Very stiff and quite plush. could possibly do with being slightly more lively over the first inch of travel, but thats a personal preferance and so is subjective, not a real fault with the forks. mine have been sadly killed in a road traffic accident (i frikkin hate car drivers) which makes me very sad as they are truly a great product. Tech support at Stratos is great as well. the guys are cool and respond quickly - a rare thing. try getting the same feedback from Rockshox (I used to work in a bike shop so i know how corprate they are)

Weaknesses:
"A little underbuilt".several of my friend have these forks (s-7's)and they have all had probles, some minor and some major.minor probles are leaking fork seals.the updated ones (i believe) are reconizable by having smaller notches in the collar that contain the seals. The factory seems to be supplying upgraded seal to the dealers for people who have the older seals.the bigger proble is for sure crowns cracking and breaking. if you have these forks i would keep a close eye on the area around the bolt that clamps the steerer tube on both upper and lower crowns, and though the webs on the underside of the lower crown.if you have these forks check the thickness of the crowns where the steerer tube fit through:the upper should be 16mm thick (up from 14mm),and the lower one should be 15mm (up from 12mm)if you have the thinner ones your dealer should replace them, but i know of one set of these thicker ones breaking.Keep an eye on your equipment(as you should) I have delt personally with the factory in getting my replacement parts and they were very helpfull, but its seeems to be hard to get anyone "home" sometimes.Having said this i would still not hesitate to buy another pair of these forks, the riding aroumd here is all about big air and I think any brand fork has been broken.

GREAT forks! just be aware that everything has its limits ,they're probably not as strong as say Mr. T's but they don't weigh near as much either.I can't figure out why all the other manufatures don't build in the same capability to turn your handlebars all the way 90 deg. as you can with these forks? ! Rockshox boxxers would be my second choice but they cost a bunch more ,their seals gush oil all over the place ,and they give your bike the turning radius of a bus.

Weaknesses:
The steerer bolt broke cause he didn't tighten it, the crown failed due to this and not it's design. He kept riding after the initial breakage from this loose steerer tube as he is an idiot. I have an S7 that is one year old, no problems as it was put on right. I ride twice as hard as this joker.

Triple clamp system on the S7 is extremely weak and dangerous
Bottom Line:
WARNING!!!! If you buy the S7 you must insist on the thickers crowns. They will swap out the stock ones with thicker gold ones from the old MX6 which are much thicker. My first ride on these forks and the bolt that clamps the steerer tube to the lower clamp broke. I quickly got a replacement and 1 week later I had both crowns fail on me catastrophically. After landing a 4 foot drop I heard a loud pop and thought the forks had bottomed somehow. It turns out the whole steerer tube clamp cracked and I didn't know it. After landing a few more drop offs I went for one more and when I landed the whole lower crown clamp blew out and the upper crown couldn't take the stress and ripped to shreds. Luckily I rolled out of the landing and walked away with only a mild concussion, a sprained finger and a few bruises on my face. It could have been much worse. There was no indication it was loose before it failed so if you have or are going to buy these forks you MUST insist on beefier clamps if you want to survive any real air. If my new clamps get here ASAP and they are significantly beefier I'll keep the fork and up my ratings but until then I can't think of a more dangerous fork on the market.

bulky looks, neat machine work, the fact that ALL parts of the fork are detachable from the rest makes replacing damaged bits simpler that the competition, also this allows the crowns to simply slip when crashing rather than anything snapping ; as with RS boxxers. For this money there is NO competition
Weaknesses:

01 kona stinky dee all rasta'd up, kona cromo cranks, profile imperial, T.V. chain guide, cheap plats, and custtom dh wheels built by me, but the rest is mostly stock for now.
Bottom Line:
This fork is the pinicle of 6 inchers. It don't get much better than this, in fact it doesn't. Its stiff it flies over anything in its way, or even out of its way, whatever the case may be. The modular construction is nice, so you can add stuff later like compression damping, 20mm t/a, their beffed up stantions, whatever you want. The guys at stratos are the best anywhere. Buy one, buy one now, if you can find one. The extra weight is worth it. I think that it is even lighter than a super-t (if you are that anal). Its everything youll ever want from a dh/fr dual crown. You can still get parts and probably alway will be able to. Stratos rocks. Power to the little guy!! p.s. got to my lame site and kill a few brain cells. http://realfast.i8.com check it out lots of lame stuff

Strengths:
This is actually a review for the S-7. This has to be one of the best designed products I have ever ridden. Stiff, Strong as hell, Very well damped, Good adjustability. This fork rides as well as anybodies top fork period. The machining is first rate. No cheap castings, everthing is cnc'd. The forward swept crowns allow for 180 degree turning radius. This thing will handle anything you can through at it. 10-12 footers, Stair drops, Downhill, running over VW's, It will take it and at a fraction of the weight of a Monster T. I have had no seal problems, no leaks, no marzocchi clunking noise, nothing but smooth progressive travel. The fork was a little sticky when new but this is just the bushings wearing to the correct size. This ensures a slop free ride. Everything can feel good in a parking lot but its what it feels like riding that matters.
Weaknesses:
There have been no problems with this fork.
Similar Products Used:
I have ridden them all. Jr. T, Monster T, Boxxer, Xvert carbon, Z-1.
Bike Setup:
Haro MX-3 7.5" travel w/stratos helix pro dh rear, Hussefelt dh cranks, Hayes disk, Sun doubles, 26" front 24" rear, IRC kujo's, Azonic bars and stem, XT fr + Rr derailleurs. Freeride toy.
Bottom Line:
I have been a Marzocchi rider for a long time. Stratos has come up with a fork that has pulled me away from their product. Dave from stratos said this was an incedible fork and he was right. He set the fork up at his shop for my weight and riding style (185lbs. freeriding) and it was spot on. Outstanding bottoming resistance with a soft, smooth, progressive ride.(10 footers don't bottom this thing). No bullsh#t, no loyalty towards one product, if you want the best this is it. One ride and you'll be hooked I promiss. Don't believe the hype, or me or anyone, just ride it and you'll see what I mean.

Bottom Line:
As you can probably tell, I've got one of the earlier models of the fork, and it really doesn't work too well...
I had to get the disc mount replaced under warranty **1 month** after getting my discs 'cos it started to crack... I've put some metal behind the new one to stop flexing too much. The seals are absolutely no good, they leak oil on my disc, so that never works anymore, and every time I want to go out I need to cook my disc pads and clean my disc to get it all working again. I have also noticed that the anodising on the stanchions has begun to crack (this is *not* a scratch - the cracks aren't straight, and some go horizontally), but only on the left hand stanchion, and they only start half way down...
The whole episode with the disc mount really annoyed me, when you pay so much (i know it's a cheap fork, but it's a lot of cash) you don't expect crap like that. By the sounds of things, I'll be needing the new seals, and i'll see what they can do about the stanchions when i send them back.. I'll have to strip them down and give 'em a proper good servicing when I've finished my a-levels, but it'll mean more time with no riding whilst waiting for the warranty department.
Yes it's a good fork. I don't want to swap it because it suits my bike and riding style fine. I just wish it'd work for once. I don't appreciate having a week of not riding every time something goes wrong, especially when this happens so often!! I'll let you know how I get on when I get the problems sorted, but at the mo, it's only gettin a 2 for annoying me so often....

Just wanted to update you all- I had some seal problems with my MX-6 for the first few times Stratos rebuilt it. Now, they have a new seal that they will fix yours with as they did mine. Not one drop of oil has seeped out, the dampening has been consistent and everything has stayed as plush as the day I got it rebuilt. You may read about some seal problems here, but if you send the fork in and they get this new design on your fork, you will have a 100% reliable setup. Keep it up Stratos, I'm always impressed!

first of all, the fork is a piece of art. cnc machined throughout and the black stanchions are very shop looking. alot beefier fork than any advertisment can portay. And I dont know about any other reviewer (4-5 reviews down) but getting 6.5 inches of travel is an accurate description.
Weaknesses:
the only weakness was as mentioned previosly by others, the earlier stanchions scratch easy and the earlier seals are a little unreliable. when i recieved my fork from someone much lighter than I was, I tried to stiffen by adding more oil. I did not add more than 300ml, as sggested by the manual. It did stiffen, but on my first coast around the neighborhood, oil began to piss all over. stratos did not cover rebuild or seals bcze i bought it used. ONLY 3 MOS OLD!! however, the 2001 seals (RISSE SEALS) and new seal nuts were replacd at cost, plus labor, and a new set of heavy springs // 90.00 shipped. Not too bad for a lot of work done. STRATOS WERE VERY EAGER TO GET FORK ON IT"S FEET!! also a little heavy. 6.5 - 7lbs
Similar Products Used:
98 boxxer 151mm // marz z-1 qr 20// manitou x-vert carbon dh fork//monster T
BOTTOM LINE. after getting the correct preload springs (HEAVY KIT) and the seals upgraded, i can honsetly say that I cannot imagine a better feeling fork...period. the boxxer had zero rebound adj compared the MX-6. this thing is all about performance. Its not the easiest fork to work on, however. just to change the springs requires a draining of the oil and some other fine tunings. If you go new, stratos will set up the fork how you want it the first time. remeber, I am 200lbs, and the original med spring set up was bottoming out just pedaling around. if you go used, expect some fiddling around with the fork before you are dialed in. Good news is I have been seeing more and more for the 450-500 price range. DEFINTELTY worth it. best damned freeride fork out there. way more cush and more tunable than any boxxer 98-2000. just as cush as a monster T but much defintely lighter. anyone in market for a 6-7 inch fork. Look no further. This fork is going to go down as one of the best freeride forks ever. * * * * * because of the not so easy to work on factor i give an overall rating of 4// but for performance, i'll give a 5 turd spanking.....

Let us only consider forks of this particular configuration in this comparison, and not take into account the Upside-down variety of fork which the market has to offer, as they have their own merits and drawbacks.
For this standard configuration the order of supremecy for DH forks is thus: (in my opinion)
1st Rock Shox Boxxers (With Goldtec 7" Conversion) 2nd Monster T's (2nd to boxxers due to weight) 3rd Rock Shox Boxxers (Standard 6") 4th Stratos MX-6
And the new ones are 7"! Marvelous! So there you go, for £450 you can't really go wrong. Mind you, Monster T's are down to £640......... and they are pretty Fat.....

Very stiff and precise, very low maintainance, and it can really take a beating. Plus, Stratos's customer service is the best of any company I've ever dealt with.

This is an awesome fork for the price. I got it for $600 with a manitou trade in. I would suggest putting boots on it, becuase the seals attract dirt, and it scratches easily. The only thing I don't like about the mx6 is how easily it bottoms out. I usually bottom it out 2 or 3 times a run, and I only weigh 145. For serious downhill racing, I would get at least a 7.5 inch travel fork. This fork would be great for light downhilling and freeriding. Overall it's a really good, well built fork.

Cool color and the size of the tubes and nothing short of OVERSIZED. If you order it from Stratos directly then they will set it up to your weight before it's sent out.
Weaknesses:
Well when I opened the fork box there was a spot under the right fork leg where a little oil had come out. Later I found out why. The guys at our wharehouse where compressing the fork before they put it on to the truck. Stylish, big, strong and fairly light. Travel is smooth and extremely adjustable to suit all types of riders and preferences. 20mm axle makes this sucker stiff and smart. Excellent tire clearance, effective adjusters, nice workmanship, friendly tech gnomes at Stratos. Nice tight grip from the clamps, moto seals, cool looking black anodized stanchions look trick and are scratch resistant. of course the 180 degree turning radius should be mentioned. You can ride over huge drops and jumps very easily with this fork. Overall, you can't do much better than a Stratos fork.
Weaknesses:
Short steerer tube, semi-major oil leak from left leg after 2 weeks- was told this will go away (?), standard 20mm axle is a joke and may scare you from the moment you put it on your bike- get the optional threaded axle with plug bolt to keep things cherry ($20), some machines surfaces have sharp edges- I cut the bejesus out of my thumb installing the fork on my bike. Brake arch seems light and thin but it is probably very strong.

Next thing I know, both stanchion tubes are cracked in half, 270 degree around each one where the crowns attach. I may ride DH, but I wouldn't say I put the fork through its test, and it was never raced. STratos is helpful once you have an RA number, getting one is a huge pain. most of my time is spent freeriding nasty trails in the Rockies and some dh racing when i can. for me, this fork is perfect. on descents, it's performance and progressiveness is consistent, able to soak up big hits and float over the small ones. fast, hard turns are a breeze, virtually no torsion through the triple. it's weight makes it nicer to pedal than something like a monster-t on trails that don't have a chairlift when (say it ain't so) you might actually have to pedal up for a bit. lots of little bonuses too - standard or 20mm dropouts replaceable if you decide to change from one to the other, forward swept crowns (yes, actually 180 degrees turning), hydraulic fluid (a fork oil that makes sense), brake bosses for discs AND vee's (if you run em'). all for a fraction of the price of a monster-t.
ask yourself this - do i race pro dh or not? if you are like 99.9 percent of the rest of us, rip up trails and race, chances are this is the fork for you. if you do race pro dh...why are you reading this?? all your gear is bought for you!

I've got all the options available for this fork and the adjustments have a wide variety 'measured feel' to suit all types of terrain you may encounter. The company's customer service is Excellent and I can't stress enough how good that makes me feel after encountering people who can't get things right (Universal Cycles).
Weaknesses:
I weigh 160 pounds and I can bottom the fork out by riding off of a 4 foot drop off. Evidently the compression damping was designed for race applications and not vertical drop-off's which I tend to do. I called up Stratos and they gave a variety of options to try to customize my forks characteristics to my riding style. The only other weakness is that because this is such a sexy fork that many other people will probably get one and I won't be the only one at WSU with this fork. :)

Eventually I'll have the Mavic D321's with black DT 14/15 spokes and spline drive nipples laced to my Hayes 20 mm through axle up front and my Hayes superlite in back. Panaracer fire xc pro tires front and rear.
Bottom Line:
This is a superb fork due to the performance straight out of the box! I need to spend some time dialing in the right performance for my riding style but the quality is top-of-the-line. Everything is machined and there are no cheap shortcuts found in many mass produced forkes like Rock Shocks. Before purchasing this fork I spent many hours on this web site reading what people had to say about virtually every product and then making an educated decision based on a variety of input. I can attest to what people are saying about this fork having tried it first hand. This is truely an extraordinary product with customer service that stands behind what they make. People who are looking for a top notch fork should definately give this a try. Five hot boxes for the value because you can never go wrong with spending big money for top-of-the-line products and five more hot boxes for the overall performance!! Go out and ride now!

Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
Stiff, will not twist or flex under any circumstances. Very plush, very active in first 3-4 inches of travel. Beautiful machining, superb finish work, all sharp angles are chamfered exactly right. Incredible workmanship, inside and out. Gold color looks sweet. Position sensitive damping works incredibly well! Very progressive.
Weaknesses:
Maximum possible positive travel is only 6.3 inches due to the fact that the slider tube lip would hit the lower crown if it went any further, even with the legs flush with the upper crown. Beyond that, real positive travel is actually 152mm, I tried it, I bottomed it out, I measured it, that's the way my particular fork is. This is a flaw in advertising, not the fork itself but it still irked me a bit. Negative travel really is 13mm however. Perhaps they addded the positive travel to the negative to reach a total? I don't know. One more little thing, the gold color can very rarely reflect the sun right into your face, not a big deal though.
Similar Products Used:
UD 150, X-Vert-r, tried a few others.
Bike Setup:
Santa Cruz Bullit, Hayes brakes, Azonic stem and bar, hugi 20mm front hub.
Bottom Line:
Be aware that the fork is very progressive in its travel, this can be adjusted quite a bit by draining a little fluid out of the right fork leg but no matter what, it's going to be progressive. It is rare that you even come close to using full travel, which is how it should be. The automatic transmission fluid in the fork was a stroke of genius, the stuff is easy to find and can stand up to abuse that common oils can't. Don't forget that it is extremely well priced too! If you want the best, buy this fork.

Got this fork on my new chumba and all i can say is that I am very impressed. It looks goddamn sick, is super stiff, not to heavy either, and goddamn its plush. On the floor it feels ok, but you hit the trail and it is just stuck to the ground like a magnet, soaking everything. has adjustable rebound AND compression which actually works (unlike manitou). The crowns let you turn 180°, which is raw and can hit any switchbacks, has 7" travel, never bottoms out, nice progressive and rivals the 2000 Boxxer except for activeness, which the stratos is a little behind on. BUT FOR $800????????? Its worth twice that.

I was looking for a long travel shock for starting out in DH. But I couldn't afford to fork out $1000+ for a front shock. When I found the MX-6 I knew it was the right one for me. I got it for a good deal at mailordersports.com and I haven't been disappointed. It is a bit heavy but I expected that for the size of this beast. The tubes are fat and give you an excellent feeling of confidence. The dampening power is outstanding and the MX-6 soaks up bumps and jumps with ease.
It is a shame it took so long for mtbr.com to put this shock on their web page for review. Good deal, great shock!

Superb fork for a great price. I have just bought the Compression upgrade with the two spring preload adjusters, so they are completely adjustable-on the fly, well worth the money (check out Stratos website on WWW.STRATASHOCK.COM)The good thing about Stratos is that they listen to the riders, and are always coming up with new ideas/upgrades for their forks etc + they do reply to your E-mails unlike most other large manufacturers who dont seem to bother. (Profit Profit Profit)All I can say is make sure you buy some. I used to have the stock Boxxers on my Giant, but had to replace them because the seals were always blowing + they were no way as good a quality as the Stratos unit. They had no easy adjustments for Compression/rebound/preload + they looked like they had been knocked up in some Taiwan sweat shop. The Rock Shox unit looked like it was cast out of cheapo metal, unlike the Stratos which is all CNC machined...dont take my word for it just look at the differance at the next DH race you attend. You know the score..............

Weaknesses:
first impression of the fork were brilliant. They realy do look the part (i had high fives before). The problems started once i had them on my bike (i had no problems fitting them). First of all i had to move crown so i could fit my v's. This looked easy enough but lining the drop outs up again takes ages. Once this was done i went out for my first ride on them. which did not last long, as they were way to soft going down down the curb bottomed them out very harshly. So i went back home got my manual out to see how much oil and what type to add. And aparantly the forks have the correct amount of oil in them...not. then i look to see what oil they take, and find that it is not in the manual. I eventualy found a review with the oil type in it. Then to put more oil in the forks i removed the left hand top cap and the bottom bolt and drained the oil. I then measured in the maximum amount of oil recomended and put the cap back on. the right hand cap did not want to come of easily though. Once the right amount of oil was in them the forks were starting to feel nice (except for lots slow speed sticktion, which is not anything to do with bolt tightness. At this stage i was very pleased with my forks. apart from dangerously high amount of twistability and wheel flex. Then my head set started to losen and my bottom crown creaking even though they had been set up with an expesive torque wrench. the left dropout decieded to undo itself severaly time and leak oil to. I could just about put up with them creaking but bending??? I like riding downhills but not massive jumps(or even little ones)or big drop offs. so hell the hell did they bent i never crashed or fell of whilst riding them landed harsly on them after a big jump. So i guess their dodgy (which would explain all the other unusual problems. So i ring the shop up where i bourght them and tell that bend them i must of crashed, i try to explain that i have not had a crash on them but i am asured that i must have had a crash on them and i am lying about it. The only way to sort this out is send them back which could take any amount of time, even then i may have to pay for now stanchons bollocks!!!

this fork is one of the best i have ever riddin for all around terrain. it rocks on the local trails, has a super turning radius with it's forward swept crowns, and it can handle any dh course you can throw at it. it has really good progressiveness for those really really big jumps and drops, but it is supple enough to smooooooth out those baby heads on any fast rocky trail. the only pet peeve I have is the through axle. it is held in by two pinch bolts on the bottom, and when you want to take it out, you need to tap the axle cause it is only a piece of aluminum that slides in and out. can be a real pain to change a flat, or just take off the front wheel in general. but since I rearly have to do so, it doesn't bother me to much. still gets five chillis!!
