Date Reviewed: November 17, 2000
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:LBS it's 8speed, so they let it go nicely priced
Strengths:fast shifts up and down
ya gotta love the stars and stripes
Weaknesses:the rear derailler, the cable is always coming off and delivering mystery shifts
Similar Products Used:shimano, suntour
Bike Setup:steel breezer, that i'm slowly replacing with made in america parts. So you know i had to have this...

Bottom Line:first time i've tried twisters, and they are much faster and easier for me personally. I also love being able to trim my front derailler like I used to with my above the bar shifters. Also, in the box my set came in was a nine speed half-pipe shifter in matching colors, so when I want to up to nine speed all I have to do is get a new cassette, and switch out to the half-pipe, not a bad value, two shifters for the price of one! Only problem is the rear derailler making mystery shifts, but last month I tweaked my derailler hanger on a nice solid chunk of granite, and now it actually works more consistently, so hey!!

Date Reviewed: November 18, 1999
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Durable, smooth, accurate and precise. Pimpin' looks, Mac Daddy mondo gear shifts.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't glow in the dark
Similar Products Used:
XTR, XT, LX, auld Grip Shift X Ray
Bike Setup:
WTB Phoenix with WTB everything, Atom Bomb fork, Helium-filled mainframe, rubber innertubes and tires.
Bottom Line:Set it and forget it! It works smoothly everytime, regardless of conditions or how hungover I am. Found supernatural shifting performance when combined with GoreTex cables. Patriotic I feel when I ride. Oooohs and Aaaahhs everywhere I go. All the other Sram goodies like brakes and levers are mondo superb-o as well. It's lighter than Shimano, works better, and looks better. 'nuff said. Now go ride.

wissahickon
Duration Product Used:
6 months
Strengths:
durable
smooth
(lets face it) stars and stripes make me look like a pimp
Weaknesses:
a little stiff but nothing that cannot be fixed i think with some lube; maybe i should have got half pipe...
Similar Products Used:
xt
lx
Bike Setup:
trek 8000
manitou sx
kore elite seatpost/stem
selle italia gel flite
19.5 frame
betsy rear derailer
Bottom Line:its durable and quiet as far as shifting but i'm beginnning to think that i should have got an xt shifter (only cos my shifting was quicker along with downshifts on the brake which i miss) or the renowned half-pipe which seems to sort this problem out. nevertheless for gripshift fanatics these are pretty damn good on the whole. and, lets face it, they look so frigging good, they're hard to let go...
