Favorite Trail:Curt Gowdy
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1300.00
Purchased At:Bicycle Station, Che
Strengths:The rear shock actually worked flawless for me. The lock-out option and full open modes did what they're intended to do. Fairly light, decent components.
Weaknesses:As mentioned, the seat. I upgraded to a Phenom saddle and didn't look back. the Avid v-brakes work well, but discs would be recommended.
Similar Products Used:I was a die-hard GT fan back in the mid-90's, so my last bike was a Zaskar. My first experience on a FS.
Bike Setup:Completely stock, minues the saddle and grips.
Bottom Line:I hadn't ridden a bike in 10 years. I used to work at a shop, ride everyday, race on the weekends......then I turned 16 and got a car.....
So, my intent for this bike was to see if I still enjoyed biking and had it in me. I didn't want to dump thousands into a bike, so I narrowed my choices down to this bike.
A little bit over a year later, and I'm ready for a serious bike. This FSR didn't disappoint me or turn me off from riding. I never had a single issue with any of the components, frame, or shock. They performed their functions as they should. I think this bike is great in finding out if a person is ready (or likes) a FS bike, without dumping tons of cash for the latest greatest bike. I think dollar for dollar, it would be hard to find a better bike.

Favorite Trail:Ridgeline, Makara Peak
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:AvantiPlus
Strengths:Lightweight, sharp handling, XFusion rear shock, great geometry
Weaknesses:Seat has no padding
Similar Products Used:Trek8000 hardtail
Bike Setup:Standard with XT hydraulic Disk brakes, Mavic717 rims and XT hubs. Traded the Tora fork for a fab Recon 351 fork that is so plush.
Bottom Line:Awesome bike with great feel but good disc brakes needed. Lightweight and easy to convert to from a hardtail and full-sus really is a smooth ride.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:Binghams
Strengths:Solid components very happy with the bike
Weaknesses:Brakes needed swapping out.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Rockhopper
Bike Setup:Stock with the addition of Avid BB7 180mm rotors.
Bottom Line:I have tried to purchase other bikes other than specialized but I really enjoy the feel of them and how they ride. This is my first FSR bike and I am absolutley in love with it. It rides like a dream. You can't go wrong with any specialized products.

Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:Redlands Cylcery
Strengths:lightweight for full suspension; easy to manuvere
Weaknesses:wheel spokes: front shocks
Similar Products Used:older specialized
Bike Setup:pretty much stock with garmin 305 computer
Bottom Line:Had problems early on with front shocks leaking oil. Took it back to the shop twice finnally fixed it and havent had a problem since. Wheel spokes are to fragile for any "HarderCore" riding started braking spokes after about 700 miles. Finally had to relace thee wheels. Other than that great bike many miles(2000+) and still going strong.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:Olde Town Bicycles
Strengths:Great frame and FSR suspension. It is a great entry into full suspension bikes. The no name rear shock actually performs really well once you have it tuned to your weight. With the addition of better components you essentially will have Stumpjumper FSR for less of the price.
Weaknesses:The Rockshox Tora fork has a lot of flex and is really heavy. Doesn't come with disc brakes, doesnt come with clipless pedals.
Similar Products Used:Trek 4300, Giant Boulder SE
Bike Setup:Rockshox Reba Race fork, Cranbrothers Acid 1 Pedals, Crankbrothers Cobalt headset, Avid BB7 disc brakes, and the rest is still stock.
Bottom Line:This is a great entry level bike into the squishy world. If you want a bike that you can grow with and not into than this maybe for you. Out of the bock it has an eclectic mix of components. It comes with good qaulity Shimano Deore shifters and derailers but then a no name rear shock and a bottom of the line front shock from Rockshox. I wore the front fork out in less than a year as well as the headset. I also upgraded to disc brakes and to clipless pedals. As of right now it's a solid bike and the only upgrades im thinking about are only to shed pounds.

Favorite Trail:Ft. Custer
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:Denny's Central Park
Strengths:Lightweight, dual suspension, best-value type bike. Decent equipment, highly customizable, Rim V-Brakes, easy maintenance.
Weaknesses:The stock saddle is pretty uncomfortable, upgraded that first off. Stem was too short and not high enough, so added some spacers and upgraded the stem as well. Rim brakes work well for now, but will eventually get discs.
Similar Products Used:Trek 970 (no suspension), Trek 4300 Disc, and this one.
Bike Setup:2006 FSRxc size small, Upgraded longer Specialized stem and added spacers, Cateye wireless computer, stripped the reflectors.
Bottom Line:Awesome bike for a little over a grand, more than enough for anyone who doesn't ride every day. Could compete on this thing in amateur circuits without a problem.

Date Reviewed: February 29, 2008
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $12000.00
Purchased At:Bike Pro Shop
Strengths:Full suspension. Acceptable components. Light frame compared to my last mountain bike. Beautiful color grey with black. Brand reputation and warranty.
Weaknesses:Saddle is not the best out there. New saddle is highly recommended. Tires tend to slip up a bit when making some turns. Tires can be upgraded without issues.
Similar Products Used:Last mountain bike was a Mongoose Pro. Big difference in quality and parts. Nice upgrade from a very entry level bike.
Bike Setup:Mongoose FSRXC with AVID Ball Bearing Brakes. Brooks B-17 Narrow. Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tires.
Bottom Line:I would highly recommend a specialized bike and this model. This bike should have been my first bike in the first place. Bike come stock with rim breaks, however, there is the option to switch them to disk breaks in which the pro shop had no issues doing so. Anything on the bike can be upgraded to better components in the future or leaving it in its stock form is just fine. A seat upgrad and new tires will beneficial. Enjoy the ride.
