I have fairly short legs, so the low standover height was great. This bike climbs so well that it feels like it has its own motor. The Avid rim brakes work great, but I like that I can upgrade to discs.
At first, I thought the bike was a little overpriced compared to other lightweight frames with LX/XT derailleurs, but I am finding that the Stumpy not only has a better frame, but also doesn't scrimp on other components like some models do - great crankset and hubs, LX shifters. I gave a 4 as the value rating for the retail price of $1400, but if you can pick up an end of the year special, then it is an excellent value.

I have the 15.5" model. I can raise the seat to the appropriate height for maximum power, and I can still get behind the seat for downhilling. I used to have a 1997 specialized stumpjumper 15", and I could barely get behind the seat. Now, I'm actually glad that bike got stolen. This bike allowed me to do so much more so quickly, that i've been riding and riding and riding. | | Weaknesses: | At first, I felt the fit was odd. I felt like I was sitting up so straight. I even considered moving the bars further away by getting a longer neck thingie. but once on the trail, it all made sense to me. | | Similar Products Used: | 1997 specialized stumpjumper 15" | | Bike Setup: | off the rack. Definitely made me speedier. | | Weaknesses: | Horrible shifting problems since day one. I'm hoping that other people with this problem will contact me so I can figure it out. I've stumped the mechanics so far. Out of 27 gears I only have about 2-3 that don't rub on either the left of right side of the front derailleur. In addition to having limited gears, I often lose the chain when shifting down to granny, causing chain suck, or it doesn't shift down at all. It is not an issue of adjusting gears, stop screws, or the chain.
