Bottom Line:
This is a great bike for anyone that doesn't want to pour a bunch of money right away into a bike. I have owned this bike over 4 years and haven't had any major problems. I have crashed many times, (even ran into a few trees), and never had to worry about the bike. The thick and beefy frame will carry you wherever you need to go. I have recently money into upgrading components, but for almost 3 years, I rode it stock! Would recommend this bike to anyone!

Price Paid:

Strengths:
Strong Frame, beefy stem.... Quite heavy so you can point it down a hill and go and throw it around over some jumps, drops.
Weaknesses:
Stupid RST fork. My seals Blew strait away, now it is in the bin. Shimano Brakes, were ok for a year and a half but now Hayes HFX 9. Cranks, square taper went circle and have been replaced with Truvativ Hussefelt's and the BB with a Truvativ Howitzer DH Team. Deraileur and shifters/brake levers were crap so they have been replaced also.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 3 Forks, Truvativ Cranks and BB, SRAM chain and Cassette, shimano deore shifters and Rear Deraileur, Truvativ shift guide, GT jump saddle. Hayes HFX 9 Brakes with 8" Rotors.
Bottom Line:
Nice bike. But before much riding the Fork and saddle needs to be replaced and the brake cable needs a full housing. If you are going to buy one, buy it cheap and prepare to upgrade.

Solid frame. Fast once you get it going. Brute strength bike.
Weaknesses:
Heavy (32 1/2 pounds)Rear Derailleur,Cranks,Saddle. Stripped the cranks after a couple weeks. Saddle is fine until you get to the 25 mile mark, then its painful. Derailleur is the cheapest on the market, but hey;thats a cheap upgrade.

This is a great bike for a week-end warrior,or someone that doesn't have a ton of cash to spend right off the bat,or someone that doesn't know if he/she will even like the sport and doesn't want to dish out a grand to find out. I fell into the 2 category. I found it brand new on Craigslist for 200.00$ and ran with it. I have since put around 800.00$ into it,and I'm very happy.

Weaknesses:
Stock derailleurs are horrible espically on harder trails,RST fork is junk and has almost knocked me backward. cables running down the tube.
This bike is a soild bike for anyone to start riding. After hitting more complex trails you will quickly realize the need for better componets. after upgrading a few parts these bikes are unstoppable weather on trails or on the streets. I ride it on the trails twice a week and to the gym three days a week. After upgrades there is really no need for anything else unless you go for a full susp. I'd reccommend this to anyone who is beginning to anyone who has been riding for a while

-Put it this way, "Float like a buttafly, sting like a bee!" The fork is bombproof, but its also light. -Multiple uses, including XC, AM, DJ, Street, even Trials. -Looks like "T3H SEX" -Seat is comfy and good for long rides. -Brakes STILL stop on a dime after one year of near continuous use.
Weaknesses:
-If you buy one at your LBS, tell them right away to bring out a selection of 130mm forks, cause the RST one is basiclly a rigid fork with a 'ever-so-cool' preload dial on it. -Gear system is screwed. When it says 7, it really means 8. When it says 6, it means 7, etc. Probably just my bike but just letting everyone know. -Get a Blackspire!!! All I have to say.

Good solid frame and wheel assembly. I am a heavy rider, 230lbs.fully loaded.I have beat on it pretty good, with positive results.Drive train and shifters OK for a starter bike.
Weaknesses:
The brakes were the first to go.They squeel unbearably when they get a little wet and didn,t have enough stopping power downhill, probably OK for a lighter rider. The shocks are way to stiff for anything more technical than a speed bump and are non ajustable This bike is more than adequate out of the box for beginner xcountry. But as you do more serious riding you will need to upgrade. This bike just {Screams} to be upgraded.

Tough frame. Overall beefy build.
Weaknesses:
Forks are hardly adjustable, too stiff. It's also pretty heavy (but that's compensated by the durability of the frame). Bad cable routing. Noisy brakes.
Similar Products Used:
Trek 4300 disc
Bottom Line:
I gave a review on this bike when I first got it, but now I have to shed light on some more issues. I still think that it is a capable bike that is worth upgrading, but I want to make these issues known.
- The fork is not adjustable. Though it has two preload knobs at the top, they don't do anything and are just for looks. The forks have a lot of stiction and is not smooth at all. There is also no rebound adjustment so if you take a big hit, the rebound could literally buck you like a bull...
- The brakes. After being broken in, they're actually okay. They work well with little adjustment, yet they are noisy.
- Design flaws. There are elements on this bike that just makes your head boggle. For example, the cables for the two derailleurs are both on the bottom of the downtube. This is an area where dirt gets flung up as you ride. This makes maintaining consistent shifting next to impossible.
Despite these issues, it all comes down to the fact that you get what you pay for. And I still firmly believe that the Hardrock is a better choice than anything else in the price range.

Get rid of the stock brakes and forks... Needs full housing on brake lines!!!! Rims, replace the second they bend...
I've had this bike since '05 and it's treated me well. I didn't realize that I'd get so into trail riding when I first bought it at my local LBS, they suggested it because I didn't want to break the bank. I think that anyone starting out to intermediate skill level will have a blast on this hardtail... Shifter's have held up well, I know they're bottom line Shimano but over 3 years old and haven't had to rebuild the drivetrain yet (bear in mind that I'm in FL so that prety much limits me to light XC and singletrack)
Will be upgrading to a Stumpy FSR... But my Hardrock will stay with me too.
4 chili's because I bought it as a beginner bike and It's made me happy even as an intermediate rider...
