Minutes before, I was dropping off a 5 feet wall and hopping on the front wheel on this obstacle !
It broke near the clamp, like all others in this review.

I picked up one of these stems (110x17 degrees) at a LBS this summer. I paid 16 bucks for it and it looks and rides really well. I got the cold forged version and I love it. Sure beats paying big bucks for the fancy name ones. 5 red hot chilies for this puppy. | | Overall Rating: |

Specialized M2 StemThese things were really hard to come by but I managed to get one for $25 (supergo). It's been great. As far as I know it's the lightest stem I've seen yet. Only 257 grams for 0 degree, 120mm. It' stiff and I think comes with the same 5 year warranty that the M2 frames come with not to mention a sweetblack ano color. | | Overall Rating: |

This review is for the 98' Specialized A1 Forged Stem. Weighing in at 178.89 grams for the 135mm x 6 degree, with removable face clamp model, it gets a 5 from me. It also has a laser etched logo on the face clamp and a decaled S logo on the top and bottom of the stem (reversible). Dont take the risc guys, replace it.
Cracked along the clampseams; I think it is casted wich might explain the the crack.

I had this stem on my 97 Stumpjumper and while it was good for about 8 months it finally caved in this weekend. The bolts became bent and the threads stripped. This was all caused due to my size. At 6'2 and 215 lbs. I'm larger than most other riders I see. I'm just glad I found the problem before I needed dental work. If you are my size or you ride real hard be careful of this stem it could break on you. | Overall Rating: |

I got the stem from Supego(too) for $19(reason). The next day I saw a guy in a shop about to buy the same one for $96! I stopped him and sent him to Supergo, and never went back to that shop (Bikes West for those of you in Tucson). Anyway, the next day, I was looking a little closer at the Supergo ad, and noticed that in small print it said as with any high performance component we recommend replacing this stem after one season. Huh? For $19 dollars, I guess I wasn't surprised, but I was a little concerned for my face should it crack on a good bump. It has been a pretty good stem so far, with the exception of a good amount of creaking noise where it fits around the steerer tube. Tightening it helps, but it never goes away! I'm shopping for a new stem now, before it costs me a little blood and a few teeth! | | Overall Rating: |

DANGER! DON' BUY THIS STEM!
I bought one of ti stems for my Mongoose with a RockShox. I had no more than an hour's worth of riding when my freind heard a loud CRACK, I tried to turn the bike and found that nothing was happening. My stem had a defect that caused it to crack about a half an inch behind the steerer tube binder bolts. I was lucky because my stem cracked at slow speed before I got onto the trail, you might not be so lucky! Do yourself a favor and replace your Specialized Ti stem before you get hurt. | | Overall Rating: |

Specialized 6/4 Ti Ahead Stem
A rare find, but if you can get your hands on one, you will notice that it is a
very well thought out and constructed item. It is a two bolt removeable head
clamp design with the rear two bolts tucked around the frontside of the stem.
The method of construction is forging and as the title implies the material of
choice is 6/4 Ti. After reading about the flexiness of past Litespeed stems,
Specialized's choice of material and construction are it, state of the art (and
yesit does have a luurvvvleee ride).
If you like have a bike with a 1 headtube and are a sucker for proportions,
besides the run of the mill steel stems, you did not have much choice but to
a get a ridiculously oversized aluminum stem or spend a very large sum on a
close-to-custom Ti stem. Even though the the finish could be upped a notch
(I've sandblasted mine), I would still rate and recommend it highly overall -
if you can get your hands on one.
