Favorite Trail:My ride to work, as difficult as they come!
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $10.00
Purchased At:Houston Bicycle company's junk box.
Strengths:Actually comfortable, though mine is a slightly different model. The hip bone area is flatter.
Weaknesses:Has logos all over the thing! You have to get used to it for a few days, especially if you're used to softer saddles.
Similar Products Used:None. I have many bikes but only one that is MTB.
Bike Setup:Mid eighties Santa Fe hardtail, with cantilever brakes. Forged drops, chromoly frame. Rail clamp alloy seat post.
Bottom Line:My first venture into "modern" style bike saddles, and I'm not disappointed in the least. Mine is a slightly different design than the one pictured, which may have something to do with my perceptions. It's a comfortable enough saddle, and I couldn't beat the price of $10 from my LBS junk box, either. I feel no pressure on anything but my hip bones, so I imagine it's working as it should. I'm usually the person searching for a wider more cushy saddle, so I was a little nervous about trying it. It worked out great.

Similar Products Used:wtb velo plush

Bottom Line:I didn't realise what was happening untill I saw my mate with the same seat crash all the time then iy dawned on me the seat is so wide you can't get off the back on drop offs in time and getting back is just as bad . Do not buy this seat for xc or dwn hill as it is actually dangerous it is only good as a commuter bike seat and really for the amount of padding and plush look it should be a lot more comfy in its defense its well designed for pertanium protection and if you have a really scrawny arse the only person on a mtb that should use this with easewould be a bandy leg x horse rider

Strengths:A good all around saddle for the money.
Weaknesses:the material isn't the strongest. the side of the saddle has ripped in a number of places. but after 3 years i guesse it's bound to do that.

Bottom Line:Looking at all these negative reviews, i feel compelled to give the body geometry comp a fair shake. i have ridden this saddle pretty hard for a little over 3 years. that's a long time and lots and lots of miles. and i love this saddle. the BG comp isn't the lightest or the sleekest, but it is a very comfy mountain bike saddle. Way more comfortable than the selle italia on my road bike (which is light and performance oriented, but which in my opinion is also pretty painful).

Purchased At:HTO
Strengths:Cut-out
Weaknesses:Durability
Similar Products Used:Stock Seat
Bike Setup:2002 Fisher with XT front, XT/618 wheelset, Panaracers
Bottom Line:I liked this seat, especially compared to the stock seat. I rode it for about a year doing cross-country riding on double and singletrack. It was comfortable enough on a long ride, I would just stand up every so often to give myself a break.

Then my bike went into a tree on some serious singletrack and the rail bent (I think, it's all a little hazy). Granted, a seat isn't made to go into a tree, but I think it should have been able to handle it.

One thing I learned, try a bunch of seats before you buy and work on the tilt. It took me a couple of tries before I had it titled at a comfortable angle (a little forward of level) so I could ride comfortably.

Good for entry to mid riders just looking for a decent seat without wanting to do more research.

Also, I've had it for quite a while, and it's really held up for me. The only drawback is the pricetag. I'm on a budget, so 70 bucks on a saddle seemed a bit much to me. I'm riding the crappy stock SDG on my Kona right now, and it's better. That'll have to be replaced soon though because it bounces like a rubber ball.

Bike Setup:Tried this on my ancient Canondale road bike.
Bottom Line:I thought I’d try one of these to see if there would be a major comfort improvement since I do often lose circulation after longish rides. The LBS lent me one to try before I bought it. I’m glad they did because it just doesn’t fit my butt. It seems well built, but it just seems to have lumps where I don’t need them. I tried various positions, switching back to my old saddle to compare, doing 5-minute intervals on a wind trainer. My old regular saddle was much more comfortable and had less of a tendency to cut off circulation. I don’t dispute those who love these saddles, but saddle comfort is a very individual issue and you should definitely test ride before investing. 2 chillies for the saddle and 5 chillies for Valley Stove and Cycle in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Bottom Line:I've noticed that this seat has a lot of mixed reviews- either people love it or they hate it. I think that this is a great design, but it might not be for everyone. It's designed to fit your ass-bones specially or something- so if you're not the right size it could be uncomfortable.

Ask your bike shop if you can try riding on it a bit to see if it's right for you. Make sure you keep your receipt in case it starts to hurt. ;-)

Bottom Line:I really like this saddle. I punished my ass for so long on the vetta gel that I though I was going to have to take a break from riding. I was actually limping for about a week. So I went to my LBS where they set me up with the Specialized BG mens mtb seat. It was ok but you really need to fine tune it like crazy to find the sweet spot, which is about the size of a dime. I read so many good things about this seat I went back and traded DOWN to the plain old Specialized BG. Man it was GREAT!! I love it!!! My back side never felt so good. On trails or roads - it is SMOOTH LIKE BUTTA !! This drastically improves the quality of my ride. So what if it weighs a few grams more. I feel great after a ride and the grove down the middle is oh so comfy!
I love this saddle, get one you will too. Five flaming burritos!

Favorite Trail:Erwin Park, Bar H
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:RBM
Strengths:Got it on clearance to make room for the 2001 BG saddles. Eliminates numbness.
Weaknesses:Takes a while to find the perfect saddle position. Throws too much of your weight forward due to its design, which after a period of time, it will cause back pain. Had a wipe out while riding some technical terrain and the leather easily tore in the rear corner. Now, it's separating more from the seat the more I ride it.
Similar Products Used:SDG: It came on my bike. Changed saddle because of numbness.
Bike Setup:Stealth black GT i-drive.
Bottom Line:So, so. Great ideal, but poorly executed to hold up to real-world application. That's why I've upgraded to the Selle Italia Max Flite TransAM. Good news: the newer BG designs are lighter and aren't canted (so your weight isn't thrown forward onto the bars). Glad I got it on clearance.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $115.00
Purchased At:Sabino Cycles (in Tucson)
Strengths:Dramatically improved design over previous model (including greatly improved fit and comfort, and better-looking, too), relatively light weight.
Weaknesses:Overly expensive, graphics began wearing off almost immediately, maybe a little too firm.
Similar Products Used:1999 Body Geometry comp (kinda like sitting on a horseshoe, WTB SST 98, Selle Italia Flite Trans Am (the new standard, at least in my book)
Bike Setup:Specialized FSR XC Comp w/ Time ATAC Pedals, SRAM 9.0 SL, Easton Monkey Lite bar,
Kore Elite stem, Manitou Carbon SX, Thomson Elite seatpost, Selle Italia Flite Trans Am
Bottom Line:This review is for the new (2001) model Body Geometry Pro saddle -- the second-highest in the new Specialized line. I originally bought this saddle for my mountain bike, and was fairly happy with it, but then I needed to replace the saddle on my road bike, so I bought a Selle Italia Flite Trans Am for the road work. Well, the Flite was so superior to the Body Geometry that it didn't take long for me to put the Flite Trans Am on my mountain bike, and relegate the Body Geometry to the road bike (you can read my review of the Flite under the Max Flite Trans Am category). Don't get me wrong -- with this new saddle, Specialized did a good job of answering most of the complaints about the previous models. Unlike my '99 BG comp model, I don't feel like I sitting on one of those big U-shaped magnets that Acme supplies to Wiley Coyote, and not only is this new saddle much lighter than my old one, it's a heck of lot nicer looking, too. But, it's very expensive, and when the white, embossed lettering began to peel off after the first ride, it sure didn't look like a $100-plus saddle any more. Specialized clearly was aiming at the Italians' saddles when they designed this one, and they may have outdone them in one category: this is one hard, firm saddle.

If you find a Selle Italia style seat uncomfortable, you might give this a try. I think the worst part was the looks, especially the cheap plastic. I quickly swapped it out for a Serfas Dual Density Pro to match the one on my mountain bike.

Strengths:Very very comfortable... I have ridden this saddle nearly 3000 miles and find it absolutely supportive and terrific. I bought it in 1999 after the wave of publicity about impotence brought on by arterial crushing after long hours on road and mt bikes. If that ever would have been a problem I don't know. I do know that I love this light narrow saddle.
Weaknesses:My only complaint? The saddle is kinda ugly, with a thick nose and cheesy red-orange plastic visible from the rear. One of the Specialized white logo's fell off. None of this is any way affected the leather's durability or the products servicability. I have ridden many days in the rain. hard miles. Leather was unaffacted. Padding too. Saddle works like brand news. Only other complaint: price. I bought the saddle when it first came out, at about $90. Steep. Today the common price is far less and Specialized makes many more models.
Bike Setup:Trek 2100 roadbike. Ridden hard (19mph centuries).
Bottom Line:Buy any upper end Body Geometry saddles. Three of my buddies love theirs too.

It looks really cool. ( I got the first BG seat Speci made )
Weaknesses:Ahh.. needs a lot of tinkering to find the perfect position to set your bum on. I tinkered it for about a week before finding my perfect fit.

Gosh, what is that cover made of? I ripped mine at the edges after a week of ruff ridin'! Maybe it's just me ... but I was suprised to find that tear!

After a year, the saddle squeaks when I sit on it. Guess it's time for a replacement. But the rails hold out really well, they're still straight!
Similar Products Used:Saddles from SDG, Azonic and Tioga ( This is the next brand I'm buying)
Bike Setup:Stock Diamondback Vectra Comp SE, save for some parts ^_^
Bottom Line:Nice soft saddle for a beginner, but for serious freeriders, this is definetly not the saddle!!

It's shaped nicely to fit most butts ^_^ but with a lot of tinkering around with the positions. Bah, not one saddle fits all anyway.

Personally, I would prefer a SDG rather than the SBG ( Specialized Body Geometry ), since I'm more of a slammer than a gentle rider.

Weaknesses:As for any saddle - may not be for everyone.

Bike Setup:Schwinn Peloton - 853 steel, Aluminum fork
Bottom Line:The road cyclist is always on an eternal quest - to find a saddle that is both Cheap and Comfortable. Performance is usually the place to find the Cheap.. so when it came time to replace my Selle San Marco M, I decided to try out the Specialized Body Geometry Comp Saddle. To me, the saddle looked really great. It had the proper geometry and compared to my San Marco - felt as soft as pillows. And although I didn't have any comfort problems with my San Marco, I thought I would give a saddle with the Minkow Wedge a try.
During my trial period, the saddle disappointed me. Within 1 week, 85 miles indoors and 70 miles outdoors in hilly Vancouver, WA my Maximum Pain Threshold was only 45 minutes. It felt like I had neddles poking into my butt - and pain running down into my feet. Adjusting the saddle wouldn't help. OUCH. Yet, for obvious reasons, the Minkow Wedge did relieve some pressure.
Overall, I don't think that the Body Geometry Comp is a bad saddle - I just think that I didn't have the right "Body Geometry" for it......Give it a try - it might work for you.

Bottom Line:Waste of time. Groin pressure is alleviated with proper bike fit, not a saddle. The padding is way too soft, and the shape didn't work for my hill climbing style (spinning, off the back off the seat). Also the construction is pretty shoddy. The thing is butt-ugly also. I ended up junking this saddle and taking a years old, broken in, flite off my road bike.

Bike Setup:Specialized Allez aluminum road bike
Bottom Line:This saddle came with my new Allez road bike. Have put about 800 miles on it in 3 months. At first it seemed comfortable, and it did reduce (not eliminate) numbness due to nerve pressure. However, after about 200 miles on this saddle I began having increasingly intense lower back pain after rides. Neither stretching nor my usual weight workouts could get rid of the back pain, so I just lived with it for about 600 miles of riding over 2 1/2 months. Then I tried changing saddles to an Avocet gel adjusted to the same height and level. The back pain immediately disappeared and has not returned. Also, after I removed the Specialized saddle and took a closer look at it, I noticed it weighs a TON and is cheaply made. Disappointing, because I thought better of Specialized quality.

Response to saddles seems to be highly individualized, but for my money the Specialized BG is better suited to anchor a canoe than cradle my tender parts. You might try it if weight does not matter much to you, you have a severe numbness problem, and you don't ride more than 10-15 miles once a week. Otherwise, stay away!

Bottom Line:If you are tired of the feeling( or lack of feeling) you are getting with your present saddle, go out and buy this one. It is a much more pleasant experience when your bike isn't a pain in the butt, especially when you ride a hard tail bike. At 39 dollars it is a steal. Competition level riders might want a lighter saddle, but for everyone else, this should be an ideal saddle. This saddle was built for a specific task and it performs that task well.

Bottom Line:When you ride a front suspension bike you need to be comfortable "in the seat". I race occasionally, but generally ride my MTB in pretty rough New England conditions. Most contoured seats are very slim & uncomfortable for anyone who weighs over 175 pounds. So this product has that additional level of padding, but is not too big or heavy. Definite recommendation for a bigger person who wants a moderate degree of performance. My bike is specced out pretty nice, but I decided to go with a softer seat, to offset my stiff Aluminum Fisher frame. $39 is a steal for this product!

I've never had so much comfort and confidence in the assurance that I will still be able to procreate without giving up one of the greatest sports ever. I went for a 3 hour jaunt yesterday and came back with not one ounce of pain or discomfort compared to the pain starting after 20 minutes on my old saddle's, and this is my third one from looking through so many searching for this one. I have had this Specialized Geometry Saddle for three weeks, have ridden about
170 miles, road and trail. I have not had any numbness with the seat, it does
what the advertisments says it will do. I had been riding a Giro Nizene and
while I like the performance, I was having too much tired rear end after a
long ride. I would endorse this seat from Specialized as a relief from a sore
behind and the numbness that goes with it. Don't let the price fool you...it
out performs many of the higher priced Saddle.
