    Purchased At:TJ Frisbee's
Strengths:light, well ventilated, fairly comfortable, works well with either goggles or glasses, well padded, distinctive graphics (I don't care about looks, but it makes it easier for people to see when you're riding where there's other vehicles), shell flexes some, but not a lot (flexing helps it absorb impacts better)
Weaknesses:graphics are kinda poorly applied, but that's pretty immaterial to me. that's about it
    Similar Products Used:None
    Bike Setup:Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Com
Bottom Line:This is my first full face bicycle helmet I've ever used (have used a full face motorcycle helmet, but that's in a whole nother league), and I love it. Never had a serious wreck wearing it (only time I even used it I wasn't quick enough unclipping and fell over, bashing my head on a tree and several branches as I went down. Didn't even scratch the helmet though). It's comfortable to wear even on hot days (important since I live in the Mojave Desert), and stays secure even on the roughest trails (conventional helmets always slide around). The mouth gaurd is padded, so when you face plant, you don't split your face open on it (yes, I've had that happen with a motorcycle helmet) I mostly bought this helmet for it's fit though, not any of it's other features. I have an oddly shapped head (long and narrow) and this is one of the best fitting helmets I've ever owned. Even the $300 motorcycle helmet I have doesn't fit this well. It fits abnormally tight to the side of my face, and unlike the Giro full-face I tried on before buying this one, fit well front-to-back to. Nothing Specialized makes is cheap and they don't have deals, but it's worth the price.

    Strengths:Very light and good ventilated.
Weaknesses:None so far? Maybe that they don't include extra visor when buying.
Similar Products Used:That's my first helmet.
Bottom Line:I decided to write here after I had a crash with this helmet. It actually saved me from a run to hospital when I landed on my head from a meter at ~30km/h. People have written here that their helmet (this one I'm writing about) had a cracked inner foam after a crash, also that the hit to head was hard. For me, there were no really hard hit to head and inner foam didn't crack after a crash too, this took my fear away after reading other reviews. Of course, maybe that's because it's my first helmet. So, choose this if you like good ventilated and light fullface for a nice price.

Strengths:It's light and form fitting. The flex of the helmet is not a faulty design... bridges and skyscrapers flex. Race cars have impact absorption. I'ts great for why I bought it, mountain cross, dual slalom, and very fast xc type downhills. Removable liner and metal D rinngs finish it up.

Strengths:This helmet is sick, definatly one of the sweetist looking helmets on the market. Its VERY light and cool. it doesnt weight much more than my half xc helmet. paint is of good quality and it doesnt scratch easily. Goggles fit well
Weaknesses:Unfortunatly this is not a very strong helmet. with just my hands i can flex this helmet. also some of the un-removable foam was not glued very well and can come off. but thats not too serious. also the retention system can scratch when putting the helmet on and taking it off but on it doest bother plus mine doesnt work at all. i can tighten it but as soon as i let go it pops out of place. but its not too important because the helmet fits well any way.
    Similar Products Used:Giro Mad Max
Bottom Line:as first time full face Its awesome, because its affordable, light, cool, and it looks sweet! its good if your looking for good protection for XC or minor FR. but if you plan on doing any hucking or going big at all you should definatly pass this one up. and as far as buying the carbon fiber 1 dont bother, its only 4 grams lighter! and its over $200 more.

Weaknesses:NONE! I don't know what the two retards are taking about, complaining about insufficient padding, please, this is one of the most comfortable helmets I've ever worn. Futhermore it's saved me in some serious falls.

Strengths:Ventalation, Weight, you can actually hear what ppl are saying when you wear it, aggressive styling, sweet grafics
Weaknesses:Self destructs upon impact. This helmet is a one hit wonder. NO PADDING = Harsh head impact.
    Similar Products Used:Bell
    Bike Setup:Demo 8
Bottom Line:Had a minor crash that impacted the back left, and front right of my knoggin. I was amazed how much the crash hurt my head, I had to lay down for a couple minutes until the stinging went away. The helmet left an upsidedown cross on the upper right part of my head/forehead from the velcrow impactin my head.
The helmet looked ok from the outside but, upon further inspection all of the hard foam in the inside was cracked in 3-4 places. Also the adhesive that holds the inside foam to the outer shell broke loose.
I feel, like another reviewer that this helmet lacks imapact cushioning. There is only a thin washable liner btw your head and very hard styrofoam. I just bought a new 07 Giro Remedy.. It's a sight bit heavier but has much more soft foam protection.
The way I see it is, The Deviant is great for having a cool helmet, but whats the use if it cracks in 3-4 places in a minor crash. Thats why I call it a one hit wonder. I cannot use it anymore and what's the use of buying another one for 20% off if it can't take multiple hits and It hurts like hell when you do.
Do not buy this helmet if you need to fall and hit your head,,,, it's gonna frickin hurt much more than a helmet with some soft foam padding. Bottom line: The best looking helmet on the market and very comfy and cool. But when it comes to crashing you'll wish for a heavier helmet.
2 weeks later and the back of my head still hurts.

Bike Setup:transition dirtbag set up urban style.
Bottom Line:This is and great helmet and it SAVED MY LIFE. I crashed with it, on a set of about 25 stairs, I fliped over the handlebars on the third stair and landed on my head and shoulder four or five stairs from the bottom. Again this helmet saved my life. My only issue is that the helmets foam liner cracked in several places, this is not sopose to happen the foam is sopose to compact to lessen the impact. So here is the deal this is the most comfortabe, cool, vented helmet out there but its not the safest, if your option is this or a skate helmet wear this it is safer but if you are going to go big get a safer helmet. The helmet deserves five stars because it saved my life but it will only get four untill its a bit safer. Also specialized only gave me a 20% off cupon for a new one and never wanted mine back even when I said I would send it to them for free, I wish they would have asked for it back to see if it worked right and how they could improve them in the future.

Strengths:It's light and has many holes. Thats it
Weaknesses:Construction. Weak, no padding, silicon to hold the crappy foam in place can be seen from the outside of the helmet. The adjustment straps on the inside pop off all the time. The adjustable head strap is stupid and if the helmet is shaken alot while riding they come loose. Very weak build and not recommened for DH or Freeriding.
    Similar Products Used:Many
Bike Setup:We are talking about a helmet not a bike
Bottom Line:If you are looking for a fullface to run some cross country then this could be good for you. This is only a cross country lid with a built in mouth guard.

This helmet WILL NOT protect you in a crash trust me. I hate bashing bike companies but I feel the need at this time. These is no padding int he helmet and if you do hit something at a DH or Free ride speed you will get hurt bad.

Specialized should have never released this helmet. I can not understand why their own riders approved this pile of crap. I guess it's because they get paid to say it's cool. It's not.

If you run DH or Freeride in this helmet you are stupid and deserve what you get. DO NOT RIDE THIS HELMET FOR DH OR FREERIDING!!!!

    Strengths:weight, a bit less thant 1 kg (2 lbs)almost 200 gr than others.
    great ventilation.
    good graphics.
    visibility.
tha strap sistem is good even with dh gloves ( don't like clips, is not a xc helmet)
Weaknesses:the sistem in the back of the head to tight the helmet need some refination, not lock very well, and every time you put it out must adjust again.
the paint is easy to scratch in the visor.
Similar Products Used:giro mad max II, bell bellistic
Bike Setup:kona stinky '06 almost standar
Bottom Line:this helmet look so good and really work on the field.light an ventiladed enough to climb with it, is not the tipical "pressure-cheecks-helmet", and the first time i think it not protect so good than others. but after a face fall in a rock garden (at low velocity because was a technical zone)i feel nothing in my head, then i change my mind. have enough room to breath inside and help to not fog your goggles. at the same time due to the kind of design you have more visual field, yes, it changes when you put the goggles but the more room is really a help in some cases.
in the weight section is one of the betters. in a DH situation the weight is a bit subjetive when the thing going vertical ( this is the LAST think you have). but in long descents, the position of the head may be provoque fatigue if the helmet weight is exagerated. when you REALLY feel the thing is when you must climb with the helmet (in your head, in the camelback, etc. and here es where the deviant wins.
i think this helmet was not made for the more extreme DH (red bull rampage, i.e,) but i think it cover the average dh riders in the world who time to time have a "mano-a mano" with mr. tree or your wife lady rock.

Weaknesses:The pro fit in the back slides a little sometimes when you take the helmet off. The visor paint chips fairly easily but a new visor is $10 and ne ways it is a helmet it is gonna get beat up, if you dont have a scratch on your helmet you arent ridin hard enough.
