$12.00 | | Purchased At: | Dales, Glasgow | | Strengths: | Far more comfortable than narrower grips | | Weaknesses: | asymmetrical shape makes them rotate on the bars and slippy without gloves. | | Bottom Line: | Although I continue to suffer from numb hands these grips are still far more comfortable that narrower ones. The larger diameter seems to fit the hand better without being too big to get a proper grip. They can be slippy if you're not wearing mitts or gloves but I always do. My pair have lasted over four years, still going strong and I'll buy another pair when they die. Loose a Chilli only because they tend to rotate around the bars and end up facing the wrong way! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

They weigh a lot. | | Similar Products Used: | ODI Rogue. | | Bottom Line: | I didn't think about what type of grips I wanted until after I had used these for about six months. When I built up a new bike, I knew I had to get better grips. I thought the body geometry was meant to keep your hands from going numb. Alas, these grips are excellent at making your hands numb! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$13.00 | | Purchased At: | Eriks Bike Shop | | Strengths: | Stay on the bar pretty well | | Weaknesses: | If you were to wet a sponge and tape it to your handlebars this is how this grip would feel when wet, thus allowing the hands to slip and slide all over the place. | | Similar Products Used: | Ritchey True grips | | Bike Setup: | Klein Attitude Comp | | Bottom Line: | If you ride in wet conditions or sweat in the summer, don't buy these grips. Going up-hill with hands sliding over the grips is not fun. I ended up taking them off because I couldn't stand how they felt wet. They don't absorb any moisture. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$15.00 | | Purchased At: | allseasonsports | | Strengths: | works | | Weaknesses: | no instructions (like they have for BG Avatar Gel Seat) which really sucks considering these are very specific ergonomic assitive devices. NOTE Specialized has, as of this writing, a Mountian Bike version of this grip not same as pictured or reviewed here. http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqSection.jsp?sid=05EquipGripsTape | | Similar Products Used: | sram, bontranger, etc | | Bike Setup: | xc trek fuel | | Bottom Line: | as there were no instructions provided testing and research was required. I first webbed this string ... ulnar nerve "palm" ... then tested placement angle of the grips extruding 'BG' pad. This resulted in a specific personal placement of grip BG pad under the plam muscle ABDUCTOR DIGITI MINIMI (which the Specialized mntbike BG grips seem to favour). The protruding pad ended up (for me) angled not into the curvature of the palm (which seemed instinctual) but instead downwards slightly supporting the minimi abtuctor muscle. The grip works great but I wished some instructions would have saved me the testing, research and my wife's hairspray ;) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$6.00 | | Purchased At: | a bike shop in Quiapo, Manila | | Strengths: | Distinct (original?) design and unique look (so unlike many grips out there) Soft. Cheap. grippy for the most part. | | Weaknesses: | Slippery when wet/sweaty especially if you don't have gloves. Hard to take off the bar the conventional way but has since discovered an easy technique. For some reason it does not stick at all to my Answer protaper bar - it feels too lose, not secure and 'spins' along with your hand when it should not do. | | Similar Products Used: | MOB and other generic crap | | Bike Setup: | Giant Warp, Zokes Drop-Off Comp, DNM shock, Deore and Da Bomb parts, Sun rims, WTB motoraptor etc.
Kona pahoehoe, Zokes MZ-Comp, Mavic rims, Maxxis Larsen | | Bottom Line: | It worked well when i stuck it into a specialized, amoeba and da bomb bars. felt firm and all right. but using it in my protaper bar felt amiss. Feels loose and it rolls along with your hand. On long climbs without gloves and all you've got are yout sweaty paws they are quite slippery. The rubber, after more than a year of use, is starting to deteriorate a little. Looking forward to upgrading to an ODI or Lizard Skin

$10.00 | | Purchased At: | Supergo | | Strengths: | Large diameter and contoured design. | | Weaknesses: | Outer soft layer started to peel off after a few months of use. | | Similar Products Used: | So many its sad | | Bike Setup: | Specialized Epic | | Bottom Line: | I really liked the feel of these large diameter grips and would recomment them to anybody who complains that most grips feel too small for my hands. As for those who think they are too big for your hands ... get the womans version since they have a smaller diameter and may fit your wee hands better. I was disappointed that the soft patch of urathane that is supposed to support your hands under teh ulner nerve started to peel off, but since they were not that expensive and did not totally fall apart I still think they are a good product.
Design improvements for this product: 1. Convert to a lock-on style to prevent twisting of the grip. 2. Streamline the grip and remove the stress risers at the interface between the soft urathane and the rest of the grip. This may stop the soft urathane from peeling off. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I have larger hands, so the slightly larger than normal grip size on these are an exceptionally perfect fit. They're comfortable, don't slip on the bar easily (a problem I had with my '02 BG grips), and they work well. If you have small hands you might look elsewhere. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I'm real tired of being told "Well that's what all the racers use" Who cares! I'm the one riding the damn bike, sell me what I want, not somebody with little girl hands. My local shop showed me a good trick for installing, take one of those half used tubes of vulcanizing glue (for tire patches) and lube your grips with it. $12.00 | | Purchased At: | MountainBiker.at | | Strengths: | First, I should clarify that I have the wide version. Excellent for my large hands. Good "tacky" feeling rubber which provides a confident grip with or without gloves. Helps cut down on numbness a great deal. | | Weaknesses: | The bike shop installed them using alcohol and I noticed a little slippage. So I removed them, put a strip of double sided golf grip tape around the bar and slipped them back on using some alcohol. No more slippage. I probably should not list this as the grips fault as a weakness, but rather mention make sure you take the time to install it properly.
The other weakness I noticed was that when one's palms become filled with sweat, that nice rubber tacky feeling quickly turns to a slick grip. If you don't sweat a lot in the palm, this won't be a problem for you. However for me, it is a slight issue. | | Similar Products Used: | I also thought about the Bio-Grip, but went for the Specialized wide version. | | Bike Setup: | Trek 820 (Commute to work bike) | | Bottom Line: | I bought them because I recently had a wider riser bar put on my city commute set of wheels (Trek 820) and they were unable to save my decade old grips on the old bar. I had always wanted to try either the Specialized of the Bio-Grip to combat numbness on my trail bike. I was too chicken to do it on my trail bike first, but I'm glad I did try it on my commute bike because I really like them - a lot.
When combined with proper wrist position, these grips can help prevent numbness from setting in as quickly as thinner, regular grips. They are worth a try if your current grips are thin, worn or you are battling numbness. As my commute is only a 20 - 30 ride in one direction, I don't know how these would perform on longer trail rides (which vary 1 - 3 hours for me). However, I was experiencing numbness on the commute ride before I switched the grips and that is now gone.
I am going to go with the 5 rating for both because the price is low and once I got the double sided tape on the handlebar, no slippage at all. The sweating I can't do anything about except wear gloves (which I do). | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
