Strengths:Great Geometry for steep slopes, lots of adjustments on geometry and suspension travel. Very Strong, second big hit I have owned and never damaged the frames. Quite smooth operation with all components Great overall riding bike. One of the best bikes for a beginner rider.
Weaknesses:Geometry, bike is very slack and does not grip well with the front tire around tight turns. Pivot bearing do need to be replaced. 24" wheel, especially the original single track does not hold up. Better for shorter riders.

    Favorite Trail:2 Shecks
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $2000.00
Strengths:The Frame is beefy and look great.
The bike is really good for jump and drop. I bottom my swinger 4 way during my first ride, but once its setup its perfect. People told me how heavy was that bike but i compared it to a Giant Faith, Balfa, Stinky, Norco A-Line and trust me this bike is ligth and easy to handle.
Really good DH bike for the price.
Weaknesses:Fork is kindda week. Why the hell they put a JuniorT on that bike. They use to have a shiver dc in 02 and a Boxxer Team in 03 and now a juniorT 04 lol. They downgrade the wheel witch use to be double track on the bighit 03 for sun singletrack. But that makes the bike way ligther and better for freeriding but weeker for DH.
Seat post to short, makes it hard to go uphill.
HAve to carrie not one but 2 spare tube because of the 24"
Similar Products Used:Giant Faith but much ligther if you compare with the bighit expert 04
    Bike Setup:Stock so far
Bottom Line:Really good bike for your money, you gonna enjoy it for sure. But if you want to spend a little more or like the DH better than freeride go for the Demo 8 or 9.

Strengths:first of all, you could say it's look. the frame looks so wicked, and with beautiful chainstay's, it's built tough. Depending on the buildup you get, the bike could be specced very nicely.
Weaknesses:888vf bah! who wants another fork with no external adjustments. specialized tires aren't the greatest, and hayes nine breaks are decent for a little while.
Similar Products Used:kona stinky deluxe, 2003 specialized big hit
Bike Setup:05 frame, 888 rc2x, fox dhx 5.0, sram x.o, hayes elcamino's, maxxis rubber front and rear, chris king headset, race face diablous.
Bottom Line:if you're looking for a great bike to huck around and moderate downhilling, then look no further. plus you get 4 options at the linkage plate to set up the bike, i personally like the 7.5" travel setting with a slacker head tube angle. because of the split level design, i would retire the original seat tube, and get a telescopic post, but to each his own. love the bike, go and buy one!

    Purchased At:Pump n Pedals ($3900 AU)
    Strengths:'06 Bighit 3 - great stock components
    - 26' wheels
    - pedals like a 6' bike
    - light weight - easy to throw around
    - sweet suspension
    - great brakes
Weaknesses:Stock rear hub. After ripping ligaments in wrist after having it for 3 days, went for some light riding 3 weeks later and totally killed the hub. Where it is pressed together the 2 pieces parted company. Had to get a new one under waranty.
Similar Products Used:'04 Norco Atomik, Craftworks DHR 208, Orange 222, Kona Stab Supreme

Bottom Line:A great bike for racing, jumping and freeriding alike. The price is right and you get quality components. If your in the market for a new DH bike look no further than the Bighit 3 and you can take your riding to the next level. Keep riding.

Strengths:Awesome bike, looks great, and still getting people to turn there heads. Super supple suspension and beefy rim set.
Weaknesses:Hayes Hydraulic disk brakes suck, they always pull all the way back to handle bars even after a fresh bleed, and they have no braking power, i'd rather have v-brakes!!! Hayes Hydros are BS. Seat post rails bent. rear derailer is lazy after it takes a beating.
Similar Products Used:giant faith, giant AC, trek desiel

Bottom Line:Get the bike if you wanna huck/downhill/big dirt jump/go bigger than all yer friends. Don't get if ya wanna freeride, too heavy, it's a real pusher. Cool looking great soft ride, chicks dig it.

    Strengths:-Fairly beefy frame
    -Nice looking bike
    -Plush
    -Good trail riding
    -comfortable in air
Weaknesses:-Plush.... way too plush bottoms like crazy off anything in 8" travel mode
    - To stiff... way too stiff in 7" mode
-shock mount positions half don't work either hit frame or shock hits link plates
    -24" wheel only
-Manitou 4 way swinger (gone through 3 different spring sizes, 6 sets of buschings, and still bottom it lyk a mother).
-size small is the smallest and is almost too big for me and i'm 6 ft.
    - chain-suck issue between tire and chainstay, becomes very annoying
-bearings in the chainstay (connecting to main-pivot) and in the link plate don't last that long

Similar Products Used:Norco, or any other bike that has FSR linkage
Bike Setup:Shiver, MRP, double tracks, HAYES, etc.
Bottom Line:The bike is fairly decent, good jumping bike, but for drops (big, and even small) it bottoms like theres no tomorrow, and when that happens you go through 6 sets of buschings. The manitou buschings are supposed to be really weak but should at least last longer than average of 2 days of riding. As frame its not that bang for your buck as it is as complete. After my experience on this frame i would not get another. I know a lot of people swear by this bike but everything that could go wrong basically has gone wrong for me, except cracked it ....yet lol

Strengths:The Frame is stiff, and looks awesome. The rear shock works great, absorbs pedal bobbing really well. The hayes 9 hidraulic brakes work great too. FSR technology rules!
Weaknesses:The Marzocchi Jr-T 2004 fork has no external rebound control, looks great with black bars but works crappy.
Similar Products Used:Specialized S-works Dh Team, Santacruz S8, Big hit comp
Bike Setup:Basically as came stock, but with mallet C pedals, and mrp chain guide with 44 teeth chainring, and odi ruffian grips.
Bottom Line:If you want a downhill bike, you don`t need 5000 bucks or more. With this bike you get more than you payed for. I`m pretty amazed even today, I`m faster with this bike than before.
I`m eating all class of obstacles without breaking rims and cranks.
For all suckers that say that 24" rear wheel is bad.. you should try cornering with this bike, even jump with this bike in a dirt jump trail. You have more benefits with 24" real wheel than problems. I know that speed is proporcional with ratio of the wheel but who really cares, this isn`t a road bike. Maybe (just maybe)this wheel reduces slightly your speed, but you gain more control.

    Strengths:Unbreakable parts at increadable value.
The huge travel just soaks up everything.
Weaknesses:The front wheel can take a while to remove/fit for transportation. (a quick release wheel would be better)
The shock cannot be used in the position it is shipped in so needs to be changed before riding.
The seat post was a bit long and needed to be cut down.

This bike will improve your downhill and overall riding skill in no time and is very quick to get used to. It looks amazing in dark blue (looks black) and all the parts are good out of the shop(o.k the grips move, and the pedals are rubbish, but get some yeti loc-ons and DMR v8's and its a perfect bike. Strengths:Constantly looking for something to launch off of while riding this bike.
Weaknesses:Hard work to pedal, fork kind of sucks
Similar Products Used:Kona Dawg, Banshee Morphine (not too similar, just what I ride)
    Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:I was interested in getting into some downhill. I tried it on my Kona Dawg. Decided I needed to learn on something else. Didn't want to pay $5,000 bucks for a downhill bike, so I figured this was close enough.

First ride I took it cross country riding just to check it out. I didn't adjust anything any differently from how the guys at the bike shop set it up. Almost had a f***ing heart attack trying to go up hills. Took it to a nearby ski mountain (still set up very wrong), hit a big tree root, fork compressed down to nothing, did a summersault over the handle bars. Nobody saw me, didn't get hurt (if a tree falls in the woods...)

Tried the Dawg at the ski mountain. Went over handlebars, no summersault, fourteen stitches in face, cracked ribs. Lost interest in local ski mountain until after lifts closed to bicycles. (Had a blast there today on skis.)

Back wheel on Dawg got way out of true. Bought a trueing stand. Trued rear wheel on Dawg. Took it out a few times. Back wheel started to look like a pretzel. Took to a nearby shop, guy kept it for a week. I had to ride the Big Hit. Tried to set it up for gross country riding. I positioned rear shock in steep head angle, short (6.8 inch) travel position, put top of shock in most progressive location, wound up preload in Junior T as tight as it would go, put about 150 lbs of air in rear shock, and reduced size of air chamber in rear shock to minimum.

I went to Blue Mountain and rode that sucker for three hours. It was a blast (the bike is still heavy).
Every time I ride this bike, it is more fun than the last time. ALL of the fun is definitely on the downhill side. It does seem to be getting up hills better lately (maybe my legs are getting stronger)

I feel that the people who say that the Junior T sucks are probably right. I don't understand why heavier springs are not available directly from Marzocchi (contact your local dealer). I don't understand why Marzocchi's owners manual has almost no useful information. Why does this fork have no adjustments on it other than pre-load?
I am still able to enjoy the bike with this fork, but I am on the lookout for a suitable replacement.

BY THE WAY- A lot of people say the rear shock reservior hits the frame. In the manual it says the reservoir must be positioned differently in each setting to avoid hitting the frame. Specialized has it covered, just read the manual.

Although you could ride it back up, i would not suggest it if you want to be able to race back down. Bottom line: Get this bike if you want a bike that is a great bike for EVERYTHING. Oh yea, the 24 inch rear is what makes this bike so awesome, so if you dont like that then look at a different bike.
