$900.00 | | Purchased At: | Adrenalina | | Strengths: | The bike is very solid. It's weight (31 Lbs) makes it stable when going downhill. It can go fairly well through rough terrain, and it is built like a rock. Works uphill. | | Weaknesses: | It can't be used for downhill due to its lack of travel on both front and rear suspension. Components are not at all great, and need repair after hard training. Very slow uphill. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Rock Hopper 2000. (Much lighter) | | Bike Setup: | Manitou Spyder suspension in the front. Rock Shox Deluxe suspension on the back. STX front derailer. LX rear. | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for rough terrain. Not good enough for downhill. Not light enough for uphill. Built like a rock. Components like crap. I LOVE THE BIKE | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

a Downhiller
from Hokinton, MA Date Reviewed: December 20, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Vietnam- Milford, MA | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | Solid bke, same frame as the upper level FSR's just low end components. Climbs hills much better than I anticipated. Great tires and overall comfortable riding position. I cut 1 off of the ends of my handle bars for a more comfortable fit. Full suspension is very forgiving and allows you to Fly down rocky terrain. High clearance between front sprocket and ground makes for easy log / rock hopping. Shifts very smoothly. | | Weaknesses: | Chain occasionally wraps around the small front sprocket. No quick release seat post clamp. This is not a road bike, don't plan to efficiently ride it on long road trips. | | Bike Setup: | Last bike was a 12 year old Specialized Hard Rock. Very heavy and stiff. The FSR is like a Cadillac compared to my old bike. | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike. Have taken it in all sorts of terrain: mud, rocks, tree roots, ice and snow it has performed perfectly. I am so confident in this bike that I know that any mistakes or injuries sustained will be a result of my abilities not the mechanical abilities of the bike. | Overall Rating: |

from Lakewood, CO Date Reviewed: August 8, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Elk Meadows | | Duration Product Used: | less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Price - Performance Bike Shops matched the lowest price I found and then bet it by $20 - final: $660.Quality - excellent for an entry level machine. | | Weaknesses: | Rear brake cable can become dislodged from frame mount and make rear brakes unopperable! Makes for a real bad time - happened to someone else.Front derailer (STX) is a little sloppy. Will undoubtedly have to change after a few months of hard use.Water bottle locations suck! Going to buy a Camel BAK soon! | | Similar Products Used: | Test rode the the entry level Giant Full Suspension bike and whole bunch of hardtails.Previous ride - 1991 Specialized Hardrock Sport | | Bike Setup: | Stock setup + TOPO bar ends, TOPO clipless pedals, Nike Yusha shoes (AWESOME), Performance Hurricane mini pump, Performance water bottle and cage, quick release seat post. | | Bottom Line: | I have only riden the bike for about a week but, I love it. I've had in on regular bike trails, cross country single track, ski area downhill (Winter Park), etc. It seems to be a little squirelly on the fast downhill gravel ladden roads, but then again maybe that is full suspension. After riding this bike I will never go back to a hardtail. I don't think the pedal power loss is enough to worry about for a recreational rider. If you want to give the Full Suspension thing a try - buy this bike! You can't go wrong for the price. | Overall Rating: |

An awesome climber, and a downhiller ( trails and campus stairs). | Overall Rating: |

from Philadelphia, PA Date Reviewed: June 16, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | downtown Philadelphia | | Duration Product Used: | less than 1 month | | Strengths: | the frame, and the money. It has been through more in the month that I have had it than most bikes ever see. Including a few trips down the stairs that Rocky ran up, and a few other horrors you don't even want to hear about. | | Weaknesses: | The only weakness is not the bike's fault. The front shocks bottom out every time I jump, drop, or sneeze. The problem is that I am about 215lbs., the result is shin splints in my four arms. I was not happy to hear that I have to buy new springs for them. | | Similar Products Used: | This is the first bike I have had since I was about 9 years old (I'm 28). | | Bike Setup: | the ones that came with it (manitou spyders). I also added a tooth fairy and fat boy flame decals in place of the german look. | | Bottom Line: | I am happy with it. well not the shocks or the loose and sticky chain but that's not really the bike. Also Bikeline sucks. | Overall Rating: |

I have never felt like it was going to loose it's track even on high-speed downhilling over a variety of conditions. Also a great climber (stiff tail) making this a true cross-country setup. | Overall Rating: |

Handles great. Breaks and shifters work fine for bottom line componets on the FSR. Even though its 99,s FSR low end bike it still performs great. | | Weaknesses: | Lower end components but still great performance. | | Bike Setup: | The shocks or the manitou spyder in front. | | Bottom Line: | Bottom line this is a great all around Bike for the Buck. I dont know of a better bike for the money and I did my research in them. | Overall Rating: |
