It can go fairly well through rough terrain, and it is built like a rock. Works uphill. | | Weaknesses: | It can't be used for downhill due to its lack of travel on both front and rear suspension. Components are not at all great, and need repair after hard training. Very slow uphill. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Rock Hopper 2000. (Much lighter) | | Bike Setup: | Manitou Spyder suspension in the front. Rock Shox Deluxe suspension on the back. STX front derailer. LX rear. | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for rough terrain. Solid bke, same frame as the upper level FSR's just low end components. Climbs hills much better than I anticipated. Great tires and overall comfortable riding position. I cut 1 off of the ends of my handle bars for a more comfortable fit. Full suspension is very forgiving and allows you to Fly down rocky terrain. High clearance between front sprocket and ground makes for easy log / rock hopping. Shifts very smoothly. | | Weaknesses: |
Chain occasionally wraps around the small front sprocket. No quick release seat post clamp. This is not a road bike, don't plan to efficiently ride it on long road trips. | | Bike Setup: |
Last bike was a 12 year old Specialized Hard Rock. Very heavy and stiff. The FSR is like a Cadillac compared to my old bike. | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike. Have taken it in all sorts of terrain: mud, rocks, tree roots, ice and snow it has performed perfectly. I am so confident in this bike that I know that any mistakes or injuries sustained will be a result of my abilities not the mechanical abilities of the bike. | Overall Rating: |

Rear brake cable can become dislodged from frame mount and make rear brakes unopperable! Makes for a real bad time - happened to someone else.Front derailer (STX) is a little sloppy. Stock setup + TOPO bar ends, TOPO clipless pedals, Nike Yusha shoes (AWESOME), Performance Hurricane mini pump, Performance water bottle and cage, quick release seat post. | | Bottom Line: | I have only riden the bike for about a week but, I love it. I've had in on regular bike trails, cross country single track, ski area downhill (Winter Park), etc. It seems to be a little squirelly on the fast downhill gravel ladden roads, but then again maybe that is full suspension. After riding this bike I will never go back to a hardtail. I don't think the pedal power loss is enough to worry about for a recreational rider. If you want to give the Full Suspension thing a try - buy this bike! You can't go wrong for the price. | Overall Rating: |

The only weakness is not the bike's fault. The front shocks bottom out every time I jump, drop, or sneeze.The problem is that I am about 215lbs., the result is shin splints in my four arms. I was not happy to hear that I have to buy new springs for them. | | Similar Products Used: |

I have never felt like it was going to loose it's track even on high-speed downhilling over a variety of conditions. Great all around down hill up hill bike. Handles great. Breaks and shifters work fine for bottom line componets on the FSR. Even though its 99,s FSR low end bike it still performs great. | | Weaknesses: |
