    Favorite Trail:Streets of Boston
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $250.00
    Purchased At:Internation Bicycle
    Strengths:Value, durability
    Weaknesses:rims
Bottom Line:Great bike for what the commuting and easy trail riding I do with it. I've beat the crap out of it: ride in all weather, ride down staircases, occasionally crash into parked cars, etc... The frame and most of the components are still going strong. The rims that came stock were a little weak, sadly.

    Favorite Trail:Mansell Road
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $300.00
    Purchased At:Bikes US
Strengths:The frame is excellent and suprisingly light. The fork, pedals, and other weak spots stand up to hard abuse. the seat is fairly comfortable as well.
Weaknesses:The derailer can be bent and the brakes are easily bent out of alignment if it takes big hits.
    Similar Products Used:none
    Bike Setup:absolutely stock
Bottom Line:Ive had this bike since i was in 4th grade, and im 16 now. It has never had anythinbg majorly wrong with it, and ive gotten less flats than freinds on trek 6700's. This bike jumps very well and is good for non-rocky singletrack. It is a great bike to learn the basics, but is hard to advance onf urther than 3 foot drops because it just plain hurts without shocks. New bikers and young uns should buy this great bike, or those lookin for something to hit the dirt with and not care what happens.

    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $250.00
    Purchased At:International Bike Center
Strengths:Sturdy, smooth ride, shifted nice for 3 months, good overall
Weaknesses:Heavy, started to feel used at the end of my experience with it. Shifting was always a slight problem (had to push in extra far to shift from 1st to 2nd)

    Bike Setup:Rock Shox Judy 99
Bottom Line:This bike was 100 times better with the front end suspension. It was my bike in Boston to travel 8 miles a day to and from school and I really got to know it well. The large tires handled the snow well. I just used it for commuting, but I wouldn't buy it again for communiting because it just seemed to clunky. My first every real bike, I feel bad I sold it but hey, I got a good price.

    Price Paid: $349.00

Strengths:This bike is awesome! Great shifting, great frame.

Weaknesses:Frame is strong but heavy. WEIGHS too much.

Bike Setup:Specialized Hardrock Comp with 2000 Rock Shox Judy Race, XT drivetrain, power tools stem, dh bars, avid brakes, LX crankset
Bottom Line:This bike has everything and has been to he double hockey sticks and back with me on it. I ride downhill and some cross country and love it on the down, a little slow on the up though. Still over all a great bike with my setup it makes a difference but as stock i loved it. If you need a bike that you are going to ride on the weekends or a commute to work this is a bike for you. AND A GREAT PRICE!!!!!!!!

Strengths:Great overall, nice ride, smooth on roads, gravel, dirt and mud. Trigger shift is easy to use, works well. All good components, never any problems.
    Similar Products Used:Trek 820
Bottom Line:Good for beginner riders, not so great for serious mountain bikers, but an excellent bike for pleasure/light mountain biking, and some road biking.

    Date Reviewed: June 20, 2000
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Price. Fits me well. Seems good value to me so far if you can be content with this bike for a while and don't need a featherweight bike w/ suspension fork like your friends.
Weaknesses:Weight. Front derailleur difficult to adjust perfectly. Saddle has been uncomfortable on longer rides.
Similar Products Used:95-96(?) Raleigh M-50 (my wife's bike, even heavier than Hardrock, shorter cranks bother me)
Bike Setup:Stock w/ toe clips and bar ends. (99 Comp stock is CroMo frame, rigid fork, Alivio components.)
Bottom Line:Some reviews have wrong specs, 99 Comp is CroMo frame, rigid fork, Alivio components. I really like this bike for entry-level, it is my first bike in 15 years. I have been riding plenty of trails and can keep up with intermediate groups no problem. I can't keep my front der' adjusted to make the low to mid change well, maybe it is bent. I need shoes & pedals, my toe clips suck in groups on start/stop singletrack. Rigid fork not a problem for me so far, bike is heavy enough anyway! Maybe I'll convert it to singlespeed when something breaks...

    Date Reviewed: August 24, 1999
    Duration Product Used:
    3 months
    Strengths:
Good shifters, great paint job, easy and fun to ride.
    Weaknesses:
Seat gets a little uncomfortable after a long ride, but an easy fix.
    Similar Products Used:
    Mongoose DX 3.3
    Bike Setup:
The way it came - unless you count adding a kickstand and a water bottle holder!
Bottom Line:A great bike and a great value for the money. All the components run smoothly and never skip a beat. Good source of transportation around town. Only regret is that I haven't added a front shock yet, since my arms tend to get sore after long, bumpy rides. Hasn't let me down yet, so I give it 5 flamin' chili's!

    Duration Product Used:
    6 months
    Strengths:
Comfortable bike easy to drive. it looks like a more expensive bike
    Weaknesses:
the components I had the oportunity to change them before buying the bike, I change it for shimano LX y XTR then i can't speak about brakes, derailleurs, pedals, chain or groups.
Bottom Line:It is not a bike for crazy donwhiller but if you prefer travel in the country with a guarantee of good quality is a good choice for the price.

    Bottom Line:

Recently bought a Specialized Hardrock Comp,at first not comfortable riding it.After some riding test i finally starts to like the bike.I change the handle-bar to a Azonic PDW(the best) and stem to a Control Tech stem. Now it looks cool. The bike a bit heavy, but change some parts to get the extra pounds off.Colour is mango&black.Looking to the future is a Magura brake set. Then it will look like a HARDCORE stunt bike.

    Bottom Line:

Lovely bike, good value for the money. Bike's bit on the heavy side. I put it on my scale and got around 28-29 lbs. Could be the Wienmann rims.. Rides smooth as silk, rigid fork is a killer on 45 degree downhills. Despite the relaxed stem, bike still tracks accurate in singletracks. Love the crankset. Alivio frt skips a beat too often but the rear stx-rc's are fine.
For the money, you get a gorgeous al frame (mine's mango), decent groppo (except frt der), good in-house bits (stem,post,hubs,crank,headset...), basically a bike that's upgradable to a Rockhopper Comp but with your choice of componentry and your pace of upgrade.
I've already swapped the saddle for selle italia and tires for panaracer xc-pros. Next in line would be a spyder r and the no-name brakes. Of course, a racier stem is calling my name..
Durability's still being tested but with a couple of crashes and bunny hops bike still looks showroom.
4 chilli's (-1 for the crappy front der and no-name brakes)
