$499.00 | | Purchased At: | The Off Ramp, MV, CA | | Strengths: | Price, weight, features for the price, handles great!, Judy's are nice and stiff, tires bite well (even in gravel), easy to maintain. Very easy to upgrade. | | Weaknesses: | SEATPOST HAS TO GO! Telescope suspension or Thudbuster is the way to go. Stem & risers need upgrade. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Expidition, CURSED P.O.S. 2002 Marin Palisades Trail | | Bike Setup: | Deore LX drivetrain (upgraded shifters, front der), Panaracer Fire XC Pro tires, Cane Creek Thudbuster, avid speed dial 7 single digit brakes and levers seatpost,Salsa Arch de Tri-oomph Brake Booster ,Judy SL, RaceFace Prodigy XC Crankset & BB, Sun Sunn O'Lite/ Shimano Deore Wheelset, Kore Gass Clipins | | Bottom Line: | GREAT BIKE FOR THE MONEY! I was even able to buy it, and have money leftover for my wedding in May 02!! I love the way this bike handles, great climbing comfort, light weight frame makes uphill a breeze, and downhill fast! Even though my now WIFE doesn't like to hear that. Handles well on single track, technical rides, fireroads, whatever I have the cajones to throw at it. Easy to upgrade, and I've chosen to finish off the upgrades as opposed to getting a F/S bike. As long as my body will hold up, I'll hold on to my Rockhopper A1 FS and hold off on full suspension.
This is the perfect bike for novice/intermediate (like me!) XC riders on a budget who want to go out and get a ride time after time. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
