Favorite Trail:Pete's Wicked Trail; Steamboat, CO
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $900.00
Purchased At:T-Town Bicycles
Strengths:Bombproof. Frame, fork, wheels perfect for the abusive riing this bike begs for. Balanced and ready to be jumped.
Weaknesses:Well, it is heavy. Chainguide takes a while to set up right. Stock seat is terrible and bars have uncomfortable bend.
Similar Products Used:Beaten up XC hardtails
Bike Setup:Easton EA50 bars, WTB seat, Race Face 32T chainring, ISIS Hussefelt cranks and BB, longer ritchey post
Bottom Line:This bike will take anything short of bender style drops and come back begging for more. You can jump it, urban, trails, trials, downhill, drops, stunts. Basically this bike can do anything and excels at most of it wih the right rider, afetr all it doesn't have tons of suspension to save your butt. If you need a tough, agile bike and are prepared for massive amounts of fun, which this bike is all about, then buyt it.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $350.00
Purchased At:freind
Strengths:Strong, agile, manual machine, lots of fun riding it, great angles.
Weaknesses:it didn't come with a front derailer cable guide (I run 2 rings with a bashgaurd) but for 7 bucks canadian you can buy a tektro guide for it. also it has crappy rear tire clearance.
Similar Products Used:brodie holshot
Bike Setup:manitou's up fron't, shimano drive train, rhyno lite's, tioga tires, axiom seat.
Bottom Line:Rad bike. I bought it as the frame only for $350 can. I haven't had any major troubles with it. Awsome bike if your into freeride, dirt jumping, ds, dh,jibing, but still being able to pedal to the top. I run this rig with two rings and a bashgaurd and love it. the rear tire clerance isn't a big deal either. get the P.3 and ride on!

Strengths:Uhmmm yeah it looks pretty sweet but hey... looks aren't everything.. I like it for jumping - but for going downhill of ds is a different story
Weaknesses:Well i bought it second hand but i'm not sure if it was always like this - everything sucks. the wheels weren't great, the seat was a joke, and the frame was flexy - i'm not heavy rider i'm 60kg. This bike is loud and really not made for downhills
Similar Products Used:Trek Bruiser 2 - Get a trek, i regret not getting it - it comes with disk brakes and its just an awesome bike
Bike Setup:Ra ra ra replaced broken pedals with Funn, replaced screwed headset with FSA orbit DL - yeah and i'm hopefully geting new forks in an attempt to make me happier with the bike
Bottom Line:Yeah good bike - but if i could go back i wouldn't make the same mistake... go trek, very reliable - my mate has a trek bruiser and damn its just a beast.. well, i'm happy with what i got for the price

Strengths:this is my second review of this bike. i swapped out the bomber for a white bros ud150 dual crown with 6" travel, a kore strictly d and azonic shorty and hayes mech disc upfront, and i have to say, this set-up ROCKS! the fork adds a next level of plushness (makes you realize how average the marzocchi is) and the combination of that dope ride plus the kicked-up angles make downhilling, stair-riding, gapping etc feel like a breeze. very very nice set-up for this bike. i recommend getting the extra couple inches to everyone who likes to freeride one of these babies, and the ud150 is not really any heavier than the z3
Weaknesses:same sh*t as before: no rear disc mount, crappy hussefelt chain guide (which i'm swapping for a blackspire). stock tires aren't that serious either.
Similar Products Used:santa cruz with single-crown shiver. felt nice and tight, but much heavier.
Bike Setup:as above, tioga long-ass dh saddle, tioga factory dh tires, 2.1 rear and 2.3 front
Bottom Line:this bike is the absolute bomb, and absolutely bomb-proof. i can't stress it enough, the extra travel and rebound damping up front TRANSFORMS THE RIDE. you will not want to get off your bike. and if anyone wants to see pics of how bad-ass it looks you can email me at eddie@thefader.com, cause you know we like our rides to turn heads. i LOVE my p.3. if you're considering a purchase then stop considering right now. just buy it and done.

Strengths:Excellent bike very strong frmae and rims cant fault the XT gears and shifters Avid brakes and levers are spot on too.
Weaknesses:Saddle is hard but not a major fault, bars are a bit too short. Chain device was a bit noisy but once set up is fine. Only thing I would say needs replacing are the cranks as mine broke after a year. No disc attachment!
Bike Setup:Club Roost bars, FSA cranks, blackspire chainring everything else stick.
Bottom Line:Top bike lots of nice stares and comments! love it! Great for jumping and I still ride it 14 miles to work and back! The snall niggles like no disc attachment are no major flaw and the noisy chain device are not major so spot on Specialized!

Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:MCC Cycles
Strengths:Beefy Frame & Rims, confidence insipring geometry, class paint job on downtube (chick pic), gets a lot of admiring stares and comments.
Cant go far wrong with XT components on a bike this price.
Weaknesses:Seat is way too hard.
Chain guide was pretty poor.
The mech hanger has two really pathetic little bolts instead of a regular large one, not really a design problem just a pain when they fall out changing the hanger never to be seen again.
The Avids arent that great, always feel abit too spongy, cant seem to stop that especially on the back.
NO DISC MOUNT ON THE FRAME!!!!!!! - SPECIALIZED WHAT ARE YOU ON???????????????
Similar Products Used:Azonic DS1 (trials setup), various bikes test ridden.
Bike Setup:Stock except for Azonic Love seat, Mr Dirt Gizmo, Goldtech 40t chainring, Azonic MDS front fender, Xtra Hard springs and 15wt oil in the forks.
Bottom Line:This bike is an absolutly top notch bike for the money, excellent for those of you who want a bike that can take the punishment you dish out and not end up broken and bent.
Not for the XC lot either but thats kinda obvious with the large chainring, and the fairly hefty weight.
Dont read too much into the people moaning about the seat, chainguide etc, because let's face it how often do you keep a brand new bike exactly stock right. You're going to change stuff anyway, dont let this put you off this absolute legend of a bike.
The only quarm I have is the lack of disc mount, oh well just have to search for an adaptor, maybe get a hope torsion bar.
Buy this bike - NOW!!!!!!
Visit my specialized P.3 website - http://www.angelfire.com/my/specializedp3 - it's still under construction but should be finished soon.

Now go ride!

Strengths:awesome frame strength, outstanding geometry (heavy bike to heft feels amazingly nimble to ride), fierce looks, great rims
Weaknesses:everyone beefs about the chain guide, but i'm not really bothered. it's noisy, but people tend to get out of your way quick when they hear it. the bike's heavy on longer rides and climbs, but it's not really designed for that, so i can't complain. crappy looking bar and stem. will swap out asap. annoying that there's no rear disc mounts. anyone know of any after-market clamp on device that would work? if so email me at eddie@thefader.com please.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:spec except the sob that sold it to me had swapped out the xt shifter for some sram twist piece of crap and put an 8-speed cassette. replaced the painful saddle after one ride. will eventually switch to disc, at least on the front, though if i can find some way of getting the rear one to fit i'll do that too, and maybe switch to a 24" rear wheel.
Bottom Line:fun, fun and fun. i've been riding it to and from work, then going out for a ride in the evening just cause it's such an enjoyable bike. commuting's ok as long as it's mostly flat. long climbs etc are a pain cause of the weight but i knew that before i bought it. stance and obvious strength gives you a lot of confidence. rides stairs amazingly. rattles like a bag of bolts, but that's the big frame's acoustics amplifying the chain guide. only actual flaw i can see is that it doen't have mount for rear disc. definitely a great urban bomber bike—tougher than you are for sure.

Strengths:This thing handles like tank. I took my first big spill on it, and it just stood there laughing at me as I lay in a pile of dust and rocks with tears streaming from my eyes - not even a scratch. I must say, this beast certainly brings out the best in its rider! A must have for any true freerider!
Weaknesses:I would'nt advise trying to climb any hills with only 9 gears. Mounting the stock seat was like sticking a rock up my butt. Swap it out quick! The chain guide sucks big time, but really doesn't serve a purpose. As soon as I can figure out how to silence/detach it, I WILL!

Bottom Line:This bike rocks! After plenty of shopping around, I certainly picked a winner! It will never yeild 1st place in a cross-country comp, but it will have the other riders on the mountain filling their shorts when they see you coming! It get plent of stares! Tough, solid, well built, nice components excpet for the seat and chain guide! One month of riding on this gem, and you'll be ready for North Shore (or a pine box). Strengths:This thing is built like a little sherman tank. I dare anyone to try to break it. It is a very intimidating looking bike and gets a lot of stares. It stays straight in the air and rewards well executed jumps with a soft landing and a stiffie in your shorts. The Alex rims are awesome and have some really cool looking graphics that remind me of Big Daddy Roth's designs. And the champs at Specialized were cool enough to put a red decal of a naked chick on the uderside of the downtube. Very cool guys -- this bike rocks!
Weaknesses:The seat. Oh my God could they have made this thing any harder. They may as well have strapped a rock to the top of the seat post. I had the worst case of "baboon butt" after my first hard ride and went through an entire tube of Cortaid just to get rid of it. The TruVativ crankset's plastic chain guide blows big time. The engineers who developed this brainiac device need to be slapped. It rattles and sounds like I have a playing card clothpinned in my spokes. You can jimmy rig them to reduce the noise by installing some thin rubber around the inside of them. This bike is also quite heavy at 32lbs, but it's not a hill climber so who really cares.
Similar Products Used:Why bother?
Bike Setup:Stock. Stock. Stock. Alex rims, TruVativ cranks, Marzochi shox, and one bad @$$ frame.
Bottom Line:This bike makes you feel like a man and chicks dig it. I feel like a rock star when I'm flying down a hill or bouncing down a set of stairs and chicks throw their panties at me. Don't try climbing any hills 'cause at 32lbs and nine speeds, it's just not made for that. But do seek out the illegal BMX track built by the local neighborhood kids and give their jumps a beating.

Haven't faceplanted yet. This bike is a killer urban bike as it loves gapping stairs, gapping onto stairs and dropping on to stairs. A word of warning though, get better rims than you've got because after riding this bike for an hour you have to trash it.If you ride xc don't buy it and leave it for REAL riders. If you ride DH or dual look at it seriously. If you're a courier, don't get it because you'll want to gap the stairs to the left, not the delivery (also likes nearly getting hit by cars/buses/priests.

It is a bit on the heavy side but for what it is designed for it is fine!I also ride a GT XCR 4000 with Hope XC4 disc's but the big avid V's on this, coupled with the deep machining on the fat Alex rims make the brake system wicked (helped as well by the brilliant speed dial levers)I got one of the last in the UK;their are only 3 left at www.bikescene.co.uk. so be reall quick if you want one!!

Strengths:The entire bike is beefy as hell. Alex rims are awesome. Naked chick near the bottom bracket on the down tube.
Weaknesses:True Vativ chain guide licks big ones. Low bottom bracket height. Only one chain ring.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Stock components and fork (Zochi Z3.5 wasn't that impressive). Intense 2.7 front and 2.3 rear tires. Specialized Body Geometry saddle (saved my ass).
Bottom Line:I borrowed it for a few days from a buddy, from what I could tell this bike was built for specifics. DH/DS and urban, that's about it. When in town the bike loves drops and is SUPER stable in the air. The Alex rims are freakin' amazing. I thought for sure they would at least get out of true, nope. On the trail, the tires and bike ate up the downhill. It tracks almost as well as my FS. The saddle (not stock) saved my ass when going back to a hard tail.

However, many reviews surgar coat the bike by saying it instills confidence just by getting on, it does. But on longer trail rides the bike kills it.

First off, the reviews that say that it climbs well; of course it does it's a hard tail. But if you are climbing anything long and steep, think again. Chair lifts are the P3's best friend. If you are even thinking of climing anything more than a few miles, it is going to basically suck. My full suspension (5" in front and 5" in back, that weights 5 pounds lighter) climbs better.
Here are the reasons why:
1. The weight, it's just damn heavy to truck around when it has no travel in the rear and only 4" up front. I look at it as less travel and more weight, this is not really a good thing.
2. Lack of small chain ring, enought said.
3. Low bottom bracket height. When crossing water bars, or when on rocky sections of trail (anything with soft ball to baby head size rubble) the peadles and cranks are for sure going to hit them.

Other small problems:
1. The chain guide does a piss poor job.
2. A rock got stuck in the chain guide wheel and had to be pried out with a hex wrench (just an annoying extra that happened).

THE BOTTOM LINE:
For anyone who wants a bike that does EVERYTHING, this isn't it. I would suggest something more like a Rocky Mountain Blizzard. A strong steel Reynolds 853 cromoly frame, but swap the Z2 for a Z1 or someting with at least 5". However if you want a bike that you can beat the crap out of, and have it ready for more tomarrow, this is for you. Urban drops, jumps, and super fast smooth downhills (i.e. Duel Slolom) are what this bike is made to do. Because the bike can't do everything I give it 3 flaming piles of poo.

This bike gives you great confidence (almost too much, that's probably why I nearly got hit by a bus on the way back). The way the bike rides is incredible. I have been riding my Beast for the past few months but this bike has made me think twice about hard tails. I felt like the bike could take anything. It feels light to ride and soooooo well balanced. Strengths:Absolutely Bombproof!! Extra Beefy frame and parts...nothing lacks at all. Perfect set-up for huge drops and jumps.
Weaknesses:Yes, it is heavy, but who cares, as long as it comes home in one piece. I just had mine weighed at the bike shop, and a small weighs 32 lbs, to give you an idea. The chain tensioner was "chattering" when I got it, so being the Mechanical Engineer that I am, I made a damper for the top wheel (just two small pieces of rubber on both sides of the guide), and that took most of the noise away. But really, the huge box section top-tube will amplify any and all noises (chain-slap especially)...so ya cant really get around that. The only real "problem" I had was the front wheel was about a quarter inch out of dish...so I took it to the local bike shop, and it runs perfect. It cant climb worth a crap, but hey, thats what lifts are for, right?
Similar Products Used:many full susp. bikes that dont hold up...story of my life

Bottom Line:Perfect for Urban/DS riding. Havent raced yet, but will soon. Takes my 10 ft drops with ease....Read my review on the Alex Supra E Pro rims...awesome!! I believe Im gonna switch out the seat too...its too small for real freeriding. I also love the Zokes forks...with the custom stiffer spring. Very Plush!! Cant bottom them out!!

Consumer Warning: This bike will give you so much confidence you will hurt yourself...be careful out there!

The best thing about the ride is the nudie on the downtube with the specialized tatt...gotta love it!!! Nice touch guys!!!

Similar Products Used:Comparable bikes are the Kona Chute,Trek Bruiser 2,and the GT Ruckus
Bike Setup:I own a Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS right now
Bottom Line:A great bike for urban riders who don't want to trash their nice bikes out on the streets, former BMXers looking to try the MTB thing,or adrenaline junkies looking to pull some insane stuff.
It's not for weight weenies!!At 32 pounds, this baby is heavy for a hardtail, and the gearing doesn't favor trailriding. You have been warned!

This is a great bike out of the box,and with some upgrading it could be made better. It has DUAL SLALOM written all over it--all it really needs are disk brakes, which the new P.3B has,and some better tires. The stock fork RULES,but you can upgrade to a 5-in stroke Marzocchi or RockShox if that is to your liking.

Overall,it gets 4/value(because it is a special purpose machine),and 4/overall(because some of the stock components aren't great).

Oh yeah, and DID I MENTION THE PINUP?!How cool is that!Bonus points for the pinup!!!

Bike Setup:OK i've had the p3 for a couple of months now and changed the set-up from what i had in the last review. BUY THE WAY the last review i had a very low price for what i paid for the bike, you see i just bought the frame. anyway my new set-up i still have the strong as hell SUN MAMMOTH'S with a schwalbie black shark 2.5 up front and a maxxis mofo DH 2.35 in the rear, kooka freeride cranks w/ a 32 tooth chain ring and the blackspire ring god ,marzocchi Z.1 drop off 5" travel (i put my Jr.T back on the FSR),specialized riser bar (again 'cos they are so wide!)with raceface "good 'n' evil" grips, avid levers and brakes,lx rear derailler, kinks bmx stem,DK saddle & iron cross pedals, truvativ chain device and BB........
Bottom Line:ok this is my second review, why?! 'cos i changed a few things on the bike since my last review and was able to test my p3 in the woods and i can report that it's just as good there as it is urban.....

well i've had this set up in the woods and urban and can say that this bike rules! give me stunts, drops, fast single track,rocks...whatever the p3 rocks!!!and it's one of the koolest and strongest frames out there. total punk!!!

Weaknesses:Heavy weight....seat sucks.....front chain ring could be smaller for the occasional trail use. If you want to trail ride this bike, you had better bring some gams.

Strengths:BURLY!!! This bike weighs as much as my downhill bike did! ( well maybe not quite ) Rides like a bmx bike, great for DS or dirt jumping! Nails even off course landings like a dualie. Real cool looking too.
Weaknesses:Creaky cranx! I finally got 'em stopped by jumping the bike, and then tightening the crank bolt, and doing it over and over again. Took like 30 tries to get 'em to shut up! After that, the bottom bracket creaks!!! Go figure. Also, not an epic climbing bike, but most folks could figure that out by looking at the single ring up front. Chainguides need constant fiddling, and the wheels needed truing right out of the box. Rear was 6mm out of dish!!!!! Deraileur cable not pre stretched, and needed half a dozen tweeks along the way to getting it good. Rear brakes same thing. Overall, the bike needed constant attention for a week before it would settle down and behave. once it got right though, it stayed right! Lastly... NO disc mounts on the back! Specialized is on crack! Hello big S, you awake?

I should be reported to the spcb (society for prevention of cruelty to bicycles) for torturing this thing under my 6' 210 pound a**, but it has never complained. The handling is spot on, and landing big air is no sweat. The wheels are indestructable, and when you ride this bike, you know you're on something solid. You should buy this bike if you: have a good back, strong legs, and no fear. If your background is bmx, or if you are hard on bikes, and short on cash. This is a bery easy bike to take off of drops and stuff like step jumps and cool transiotions. Trials riding is a little hard on this bike because of the fork it's too soft for most trials riding. On the trails around my place in victoria are bery technical with long easy climbs it's o.k. I think the king kihuna is a lot fast and a lot more fun than the p3, it feels out of place on the dirt. it dosen't slow down well or corner or blast a technical section very well at all. But I only bought it to do well on urban assult rides which it does.

Tires could be upgraded, But very little tire clearence in the rear. could use a better fork( Ok now I'm getting stupid, pickey) Cheep avid brakes no disk mounts on frame and you can't run it over with a truck without scraching the paint.

Bike Setup:Stock with a Tioga multi control saddle insted of the cheep specialized one.
Bottom Line:Sick bike!!!! Rides great! fun to ride, look's soo trick. point this bike down hill it goes. but it's hurtn' going up. I had to say some negative things to be objective. But I realy had to look hard to find any thing less than great. very good value! last years Kona chute(a comparable free-ride hard tail)same level componants and a cheeper fork cost about $700 more. and it have half as good a frame as the P3.

I love my bike I would take it over allot of 2k+ bikes.

great bike so far! more later

Strengths:Good strong frame and good component selection, the fork is very plush. Price.
Weaknesses:The brakes stick way out but this is due to the wide rims. The bike is pretty good if thats all I could think of for weaknesses.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:I think you get a lot of bike for the money. The geometry feels good. I can't believe I bought a hardtail that weighs more than my full suspension bike though, this thing better not break!

Strengths:Built tough, Good spec for the money, awesome balence point for wheelies and fun,Indestructable wheels(26" Allex BMX)

Bike Setup:I swapped the Zoke 3.5 bomber for the new Manitou Suer X-Vert and I love it after I changed the oil and springs to something heavier.Only other changes were a DH Berserker seat and Maxxis tires.
Bottom Line:Not a lot of money for a DS bike or jumping bike and it is tons of fun to ride.I bought it to have something to beat on around the city and race a few DS this year instead of just DH.
