$250.00 | | Purchased At: | Black Mountain Cyclery | | Strengths: | Tough, stands up to my boys downhill crazy speed without bending or breaking wheel hubs, components or other. | | Weaknesses: | Chain CONSTANTLY comes off (on both bikes). I have to ride with them during the race to be their "mechanic" and put their chain back on. Numerous adjustments at the shop - not working. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Epic - SWEEEEET | | Bike Setup: | Not sure - I just ride. | | Bottom Line: | There are not enough gears for real riding as they cannot get a low enough gear for climbing steep hills. (I probably demand more than average parent) For around town, it is better than most. However, the chain problem is just not acceptable for any ride or reason. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$199.00 | | Purchased At: | Mega Cycle | | Strengths: | Good on uphills. Even stronger on downhill. Accelerates quickly with cool shifter. Great first bike with shifters and hand brakes. | | Weaknesses: | Keep away from the big brother who decides its a great bike for climbing stairs. He ended up on his butt and the bike went to the shop to have the rear wheel trued. | | Similar Products Used: | Dyno VFR, Trek 220 | | Bike Setup: | Standard | | Bottom Line: | Great bike all-around for the young mountain biker. My first full-featured bike. I was able to get going right away. A little heavy for the small kid. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$210.00 | | Purchased At: | Bicycle Sports | | Strengths: | Bike is solid and easy for my 7 year old daughter to handle. | | Weaknesses: | None yet. | | Similar Products Used: | Tested Giant MTX125 (20 in.) & MTX225 (24 in.) My Dauther liked the Specialized Hot Rock better. | | Bike Setup: | Factory. 7 speed w/ FRT & RR hand brakes. | | Bottom Line: | Exellent bike for the 6 - 9 year old crowd.
Good bike thus far. She rides it around daily. She just got the training wheels off her 16 in. last fall and, she could take right of on this Hot Rock. I couldn't teach her to use the foot brake on her old bike but, she figured out the hand brake the first day. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
