Purchased At:Bike Shop
Strengths:Great ride, good mix, hayes spec brakes, all around good package. Hooks up well on the climbs even with the stock rubber. I think the ride suits a wide range of condtions, this was my first purchase of a dualie, so I am still re-learning my hardtail habits. :)
Weaknesses:Cracking in the frame - mine cracked after 11 months, right at the shock mount in the frame. My riding partner's cracked that and the lower mount. Specialized needed to do some more analysis on this frame as I rode it hard, but I'm not the 6 foot drop kind of rider - just lots of single track. Only 2-3 days a week max over 11 months (less CT winter), I can only think this is a design defect. I've had more MTN bikes than I can remember since 1982, only ones I broke were lightweight hardtail racing mounts, mostly custom fillet brazed frames made in Tange tubing. That stopped when I switched to Ti hardtails in 1992. I've never ridden a bike so little comparatively and had it break so soon.
Similar Products Used:Rocky Mtn Slayer, XC70, Kona Ti Hardtail
Bike Setup:Stock MTN mix less Thompson Seatpost/Step swap, tossed poochy brick of a seat, same for grips - and upgraded the pedals (stock were terrible). The stock stem was too flexy for my tastes.
Bottom Line:This is a bike you could probably ride all day long in Cali and never have an issue. For New England, it's under-stregnth for the frame - mine was a 2002 model, I see the new ones have changed design yet again in the area most commonly seen cracking.

Otherwise great drivetrain picks, great ride, I like the Psylo fork, good wheelset for OEM wheels (even if they went way light on the spokes!). Just don't even consider the stock seat, grips, or seatpost/stem unless you are a featherweight.

Strengths:I weigh in at 215 and about 5'11" and this bike can handle anything I can dish out. I have had about 5 bikes and broke all the frames on them several times before I got this one.
Weaknesses:Seat clamp sucks, along with the strongarm cranks. Throw in a heavier spring in the Psylo and a Romic coil on the rear and let her fly!!!
Similar Products Used:Klein hard tail, Cannondale Jekyll, Giant NRS
Bike Setup:Heavier duty Psylo spring, Selle Italia Gel saddle, Salsa seat clamp, Sun Rynolites W/ XT hubs and a Romic coil rear shock with rebound and compression adjustments. Thomson stem and FSA headset.
Bottom Line:This bike rocks off the showroom floor. After adding the Romic coil which will void the warranty by the way and adding the heavier duty springs in the Psylo, this bike is a bump eating machine. If you want a liter bike then do what I did and buy another one cause I am not selling my Enduro unless I bought a newer one. 4 flamin chillis all the way around add a heavier duty spring in the Psylo like mine and a Romic coil in the rear then jump up to 5 flammin chillis!!!!! I have made this bike heavier but the clydesdales will love it and the rocks will hate it.

Favorite Trail:Tom Steed
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1650.00
Strengths:Adjustability, frame strength, stability at speed, predictable handling,
Weaknesses:Seat post clamp, soft spring on the Psylo.
Similar Products Used:2001 S-Works FSR XC, 2000 Cannondale F900 SX, Giant NRS Air
Bike Setup:Size large, stock except for Thomson stem and post, ODI lock-on grips, Selle prolink saddle, and Easton Monkeylite bars.
Bottom Line:This is an awesome all around ride. This frame is strong! I am 6' and weigh in at 215 pounds. The large frame fits me perfect. If you are a large framed person this bike will fit the bill for XC, trailriding, and light freeriding. For the smaller folks, you could probably use this bike for everything but downhill riding. The bike is has the right mix of components right out of the box. Many individuals have complained about the "S" parts on this bike. Of those parts I have replaced the stem, seatpost, saddle, bars, and grips. Most of these parts were replaced out of personnal preference not because of the functionality of the item. The stock stem had to go because the 10 degree rise gave me an overly upright riding position. This made climbing a little more of a challenge. The replacement stem has a 5 degree rise and it allows me to weight the front wheel more on the climbs.
The seat post clamp does not do it's job. I have to put sooo much torque on it, I feel as if I am going to snap the lever. I will replace the stock unit with a Salsa clamp before the next ride.
This bike performs like a dream, handling on the climbs and decents is stable, no surprises. I was able to take sections of the trail at increased speeds. Suspension adjustments are endless. This can be a bit overwhelming at first. Once you find out what works and feels best for you it is not a problem. Hayes brakes, solid performers all the way around. Drive train and transmission, excellent! Wheels and tires, wheels are light and strong, but I can't say enough about the tires. These things hook up. Best tire I've ridden in quite some time. If you see this bike in your local dealer as leftover stock, give it a look, I did and I got a killer deal on a dependable, all around performer.

Keep Riding, JB

Price Paid: $2700.00
Purchased At:Gatto Cycles
Strengths:Well thought out hardware, the suspension climbs well without needing to dial on the fly, feels light, shifts predictably.
Weaknesses:The Psylo stanchions and rear shock collect mud and must be 'Skinned'. The handlebars are too wide for trail use, exposed cable routing below the bb is questionable.
Similar Products Used:Super Vs, Raven 2000, Jekyll, various Sugars, and of course the NRS machines
Bike Setup:Almost stock but added lizard skins and cut the bars two inches. -replaced the pedals with Eggbeaters, fashioned a plastic crud deflector to keep the front derailler cabling from freezing during wet winter rides.
Bottom Line:I'm not hucking from 10 story buildings, but tend to ride rough technical terrain during all the seasons. I thought that I'd find a suspension set up and stick with it but the adjustability really rocks. This bike can be dialed to your mood of the moment. The variable compression dial is incredibly useful and easy to access.
The bike inspires confidence when descending and doesn't brake-jack like single pivot designs. The Hayes hydraulic discs keep their exceptional feel even at 10 degrees F. Specialized Enduro 2.20 tires hooked up so well that I never changed them. The original 27" handle bar width felt great down hilling rutted terrain, but would not fit between trees on a few different trails. My LBS clipped the bars to 25" for free (Thanks Gatto guys!). You will learn to love the fenders during sloppy rides.
When I swap bikes with other trail riders they always comment on the Enduro's exceptional ride quality.
I test drove a lot of bikes before deciding to buy the Enduro and am absolutely convinced this was the best machine for the money and my type of riding. Before submitting this review I deliberately waited several months for the thrill to wear off, but it hasn't. Buy it you'll love it.

Strengths:EXCELLENT RIDE. Smooth, Comfortable, and very much of Control. The suspension is great for street as well as 5-foot hucks (5' is the most that I have done YET) down flights of stairs or on the mountain. With the Hayes discs and the stock tires, the Enduro keeps me VERY MUCH in Control down tough, slippery decents (much as downhillers ride). This bike is very strong, yet only weighs 30lbs. - until now, pretty much unheard of - either you have the light weight XC bikes that fly apart upon huching or else 60+lb. DH bikes. I love my Enduro Expert, this bike is great. The XTR rear derailleur shifts effortlessly (when properly adjusted - not a problem, just make sure this is addressed prior to riding - mine was not). The Psylo fork, although I wanted a Fox fork, is actually GREAT! Forget saving for the Fox, this Psylo SL is SWEET! BEST, having a BMX background and a desire to do so, with about fifteen minutes practice, I was able to bunnyhop (J-hop - that's front wheel up then rear) effortlessly up curbs.
Weaknesses:LX front derailleur does not shift well - I will likely replace with XTR. Other weakness, rear tire looses traction on steep hills - you should use a more aggressive tire tread. Seat is too high and in the way for handling - I lowered mine as far as it will go - and it can still be safely raised about 3-4 inches (safely). That's about it - My 2003 Enduro Expert (small) truly is a GREAT bike.
Similar Products Used:Specialized FSR Rockhopper 2001. Enduro 2002. Rocky Mountain Switch. MANY different BMX bikes.
Bike Setup:Stock, but with seat as low as it will go 90% of time. Raise seat for serious XC (cross country).
Bottom Line:This bike is great for ALL MOUNTAIN; it's 30lbs will do XC, and its strength will take jumping, hucking, downhill, and BMX-style street riding. I have experienced all of these, and as I have aforementioned, this bike is SWEET!!!

Strengths:The bike fits my 6'11" body as well as possible. I did 2 training runs on the Xterra course and then the race in Keystone, Co last summer, and down pikes peak twice in addition to all the daily riding and training (40 +miles per week). If that won't test a bikes durabilty I don't what will. A shock service(routine) and a brake rotor(from a fall)plus a set of tires is all I've done to the bike. I ain't a light guy either. The support from the local shop has been real good when I have needed it which isn't often. The rear triangle had alredy been replaced when I got the bike.
Weaknesses:The rear derailer cable was too short and caused it to shift gears as the suspension cycled. Why this showed up after 3 months of hard use I don't know... It took the shop a couple days to figure it out. No problems since. Give us a Lizard skin as standard for the shock to protect the soul of this machine.
Similar Products Used:Hardtail GT Rebound (my first bike), GT I-drive 3.0, Giant NRS.
Bike Setup:Run the fork at 4-4.5" of travel, rebound set 1-1/4 turns from slowest, running an extra stout spring in the Psylo SL and compression about halfway or so depending on the terrain. When doing fast rough terrain I set it at max travel. The rear shock is great. I run it at 270 psi and three or four clicks from slowest on the rebound. Nothing really different from stock save for the XT cranks at 180mm.
Bottom Line:Great bike and got a great deal on it with just a few rides of use. I'ts been bullet-proof. I am progressing exponentially in my riding skills with this bike and it's capabilities. Super dull paint scheme on the PRO model, but it won't get swiped either! Best ratings all around for this bike that changed my riding forever! Clydesdale's rule!

Strengths:Reliability
Weaknesses:Way to many adjustments and there seems to be a lot of front to back fork flex on the psylo. I notice this most while going downhill. I will eventually ?upgrade? to the Fox with the 1.5 legs, maybe this will eliminate this problem.
Similar Products Used:Update review from my last review on 7/02
Bike Setup:XT Cranks, Thompson Seat Post, Chris King HS, WTB Seat, Heavier Springs for Psylo
Bottom Line:THIS IS AN UPDATE FROM MY LAST REVIEW BACK IN JULY OF 02. This Bike is still doing beautifully. I was worried after hearing and seeing so many problems with the 1st generation frames cracking. I am 215 lbs and I don't ride "light", I like drops (not huge) and rough, technical terrain, and I have yet to have any problems with anything braking or cracking. My only problem I have with this bike is proper set-up. There are just way too many options. I usually have the Psylo cranked down to about 3.5" travel and then preload the right knob about a qrtr turn (it seems to help). I almost always have the rear Fox Shock set to the shorter travel setting (even on most downihills) and I never use the lock-out (I feel like it's cheating). On occasion, I will increase my travel setting to allow for a smoother downhill experience, but rarely, I am too afraid I will loose the sweat spot that took me so long to find. I guess my problem is all the rebound/compression adjustments and how to set it up properly for my weight (215 lbs) and riding style (masher)and what air pressure to run on the rear with those rebound/compression adjustments. All the adjustments just make it seem like a hit and miss proposition until you actually find something that doesn't kill your lower back on climbs, but offers the most pedal effecient ride, while also keeping you from endo'n straight into a cactus.BOTTOM LINE: GOOD BIKE, just maybe overkill on the adjustments for me.

Strengths:Versatile, great travel to weight ratio, durable.
Weaknesses:Where the *&@#^%!$ are the water bottle mounts! I'm thirsty as hell! The dealers mechanics. Bars are designed for oranutangs.
Similar Products Used:Rocket 88, beat up old Trek hardtail, Antelope I think?
Bike Setup:Mostly stock. Cut at least an inch off each side of the bar. Use a Lizard Skin to protect that expensive Fox Float RL Itch shock from all the trail debris off the back tire.
Bottom Line:Great ride. Just dial it in. Dial the Psylo down to 3-3.5" to drop the bars and steepen the head angle, stiffen the rear and your flying round the single track. Open up the Psylo's travel to 5" and flip the Fox Float RL "Itch" to 5.2" and you flying down hill or have a real cush ride for cruising. Mid setting around 4" is great for epic rides. It puts you a great position for long distance and technical rides. And if you don't like that, just change it. That FSR suspension is very smooth and low bob.

I've ridden this bike over 1000 miles through sand, snow, mud, roots, gravel, etc. I've replaced the chain. Other than lube and cleaning, that's it.

Specialized did recall this bike. The dealer replaced the rear triangle. I guess they where cracking just north of the disc brake mount. If you have any dealer work on your suspension, make sure the REAPPLY a fresh coat of Loctite to the hardware! In my case they did NOT. It took about a hundred miles, but the main pivot bolt did come out, right into the small chainring. Wondered why I could pedal! I was 7 miles into a 15 mile loop. I was able to do a trailside repair and ride back. I'll do my own repairs from now on.

This is a great bike for all around use. Not a downhill bike, not a free ride bike, not an XC racer, but it is everything in between.

Purchased At:The Bike Loft- thanks Lance!
Strengths:Color & overall appearance. Complete adjustability with the rear shock: lockout is reachable while riding, and the travel can be switched from 4" - 5.2" with the flick of my finger while riding. Very trick... Mates well with the adjustability of the Psylo SL fork, although this is a review for the frame only so we'll stick to that. I am very comfortable on this bike, it has inspired new confidence in me. The handling is very predictable, and the bike is very fun overall.
Weaknesses:Weight, maybe? Although I have no reference to compare it to, this is my first FS bike since an old school GT RTS back in '95. With my current setup the bike weighs in at 29lbs. Like I said though, I don't know what a comparable bike in this class should weigh, or could weigh. The bike doesn't feel as plush as I had hoped, see below.
Similar Products Used:None, switched from a long history of high end hartails (Yeti, Fat Chance, etc...) excluding the above mentioned RTS frame back in 1995.
Bike Setup:All high-end with complete XTR: shift/brake levers, cassette, Ft. & Rr derailleurs, crankset and BB. 2002 Rock Shox Psylo SL 80/125mm fork. Avid Mechanical disc brakes, HUGI Onyx hubs, Mavic X517 front disc specific rim, Sun Singletrack rear, DT spokes. IRC Mythos XC 2.1" Kevlar tires. Race Face layback seatpost, Thomson Elite stem, Race face low-rise bar.
Bottom Line:I purchased the Enduro Pro new, as a frame only. I buildt it up with most of the XC parts of my previous hardtail which I raced XC with. The only parts which I changed to go more with the new frame were the fork, disc brakes, wheelset, shorter stem and lowrise bar. I expected the bike to be lighter when built with all the XTR parts and HUGI wheels, etc... The weight however is not a detriment, it's more that my (hardtail riding) friends pick it up and crack jokes about it the weight. But then I get to show then where it's at on the trail! Still however, I'm wondering if I should have gone with a lighter FS/XC frame more suitable for my riding style.

My expectations for this bike were that it would also me more plush on the trail. I'm not saying that it's not a plush ride, but I guess I hoped it would have been more plush. Does that make any sense? I used to race XC, however my lifestyle has changed and now I'm more of a weekend warrior. This is why I choose this frame based on it's design (4-Bar are supposed to be plush?). I wanted something to make my weekend rides more comfortable, and this is a very comfortable ride however I just expected something more.

Overall I am pleased with this bike, I wish I had a chance to ride and compare more bikes and different designs then I would be able to rest assured that I made the right choice. This is a fantastic frame, it climbs and descends very well. I love the geometry in the woods, tight singletrack is better than I expected it to be. It carves the turns very well. I have read about the new Santa Cruz Blur, and that's got me thinking I should have held out for one of those. But I've gotta stick it out with my new Enduro, gotta get my $$ worth out of it. I think that's about all for now.

I recommend this frame to just about anyone except for my friends (XC weight weenies). 5 Chillis for Value, for the price I don't think these bikes can be beat. 4 Flamin' Chillis for overall only because it slightly let me down in a few areas, but maybe this isn't fair for me?

Strengths:All of that adjustability and what not, plus the lock out, and le rebound adjuster really helps. Fairly stiff, could be a little burlier in the rear, if ya know what I mean. I guess that’s the price you pay for a relatively light frame. Plenty of room for a 2.4 in the back and I can even run a tensioner.
Weaknesses:It would be cool if the itch came in a coil over. I sometimes worry about blowing it out, but the frame is not really ment for big drops n' sit.

Bottom Line:I do love this bike and love the suspension action, but I am getting tired of them cracking every 10 months. I had a 01 Enduro, it cracked, got a 02 Enduro (warranteed)it cracked. Now I have a 03 pro(warranteed...again)and I'm hoping Specialized learned from their 02 mistakes! I'm a biggun at 220 Lbs but I don't see any weight limits listed for the bike so... I primarily like to ride rocky, nasty eastern style trails. The 03 has a much better paint/graphic job on it and they have changed the seatpost clamp and the seatpost. Both are improved! They also changed the drive side main pivot bolt to a regular nut type fastener that can be accessed w/a regular wrench rather than an allen wrench after removing the chainrings. Overall, the bike is really awesome IF it doesn't break! I've got my fingers crossed! I'll give it 5 Thai chili's on the assumption it won't break.

Bottom Line:Please see my review from 01/25/02. I'd like to give a bit of a follow up. Overall I am still very happy with the bike. However here are the issues I have encountered. I cracked the frame at the shock mount after a month of two of riding. I received a new frame, rear shock, seatpost, and binder under warranty. The seatpost binder must go though. It takes too much pressure to close, then doesn't hold the post in tight enough. Get a 35 mm Salsa. I put some black electrical tape around the brake line, under the bottom bracket, to provide some cushioning against rocks. The tape still looks untouched though. I have also upgraded the headset to a Chris King. The original headset was fine, but I had ridden it in rain, without the dust cap and trashed it. The tires seem to wear out a bit soon, but then again I do have over 750 miles on it. So far I have had no problems with chain suck. I have replaced the original chain after 650 miles though. The ghost shifting started about a month or so ago. I lengthened the cable routing under the bottom bracket and at the rear derailer and have had no more problems. I also snapped the derailer hanger in two on the trail. Luckily I had a spare hanger at the car and was still able to ride that day. You can buy spare hangers at Spec. website. My right side main pivot bolt has come loose twice. I have since taken it to the shop and ad it tightened with loc-tite. Overall I think Spec did a very good job on the bike. It is a first year model so a few flaws should be expected. I am surprised that the 03's still have the cabling go under the bottom bracket. If you do buy this bike make sure you have the shop check the rotor bolts, and make sure there's adequated cable housing under the bb and at the derailer. Also be sure to carry a tool during your rides that will allow you to reach the lower pivot bolt if it comes loose. You also should swap out the seatpost binder before you leave the shop and get a lizard skin to protect the shock.

Bottom Line:I bought this bike because I was abusing my Stumpjumper in the technical downhill sections. The Enduro seemed to fit the bill with the "Stronger frame". This bike did suck up the hits and still was light enough to climb fast. The front Pshylo adjustability was great for switching between steep climbs and decents. But after 6 months and a few races the bike is falling apart with the front shock blown and the frame cracked. I think Sun Microsystems did good job designing the frame but they forgot to take it down rocky steep sections over and over to see if it can take it!

Strengths:Hayes Hydraulic, front and rear. Custom Fox FLOAT Instant Travel Change (ITCh) Switch rear shock with on the fly lockout actuating the awesome FSR travel, Rock Shox Psylo fork with U-Turn. These all enable awesomly responsive suspension, great climbing, and great stopping power. Adjustment to the extreme. The bike handles every kind of rough terrain well from small roots to 15ft drops. Light weight for this type of bike too. It will seem that all the weaknesses severly outweigh the strengths but it's not so - read on
Weaknesses:Some of the strengths have weaknesses. The front fork is a bit weird, you have to get off the bike to increase front travel with the U-turn. For a bike this expensive it would be nice to have remote lockout at least for the rear (Even though you don't use it that much. Maybe in the future Specialized could have handlebar mounted travel adjust and lockout).

I wish an 8" rotor came stock up front for addtional power. Also, the stock fork spring is way too weak for many riders. Sacrificing small bump performance by dialing in compression is not acceptable.

Hayes disc brakes come with hydraulic fluid for the first few bleeds Yet I did not recieve any with my bike.

The Deore bottom bracket has giving me nothing but problems so far (Which is interesting, everything else on this bike is XT/XTR) with creaking and other problems. It has been in the shop three times now and i am just about fed up.

The other super serious problem is the rear rim/tire. While messing around on some picnic tables, I popped up a wheelie, dropped off, proceeded to hop on my rear wheel but fell becuase the tire had blown off the rim. Come on! A picnic table is three feet high!! I checked the rim, and there was no damage (I landed on grass.) So i just deflated the tube and reseated the tire, making sure it was fit in super well, and pumped it back up. The next day I was riding down some stairs when my rear tire locked up, well I got thrown off and when i looked to see what happend, this time it was much more serious, the inner tube was half out of the tire, blown up and looking like an intestinal tract. Due to the failure I had dented my rim on a stair. When I went back to the shop for warranty, what I thought was an obvious failure (the Rims are so narrow on this bike, they are better suited for XC not a trailbike/lightweight freeride) They did not see it this way and I had to shove out for a new rim entirely on my own.

Other reviewers have criticied the Specialized components, well, they did not give me any problems as they are middle of the road general purpose components, I simply swapped them for more freeride/DH oriented components for personal prefrence reasons. Last, the front fender is pretty shoddy. Mounting the front fender on the frame is pretty shoddy but not that bad, the fact that it attaches loosely to the cables is. It moves around and doesnt work that well, so I made my own custom fender by using the front part of the stock, the bracket and rear part of a THe fender.

Those are all the technical issues, other then that, the bike is a little too long for me, and takes a bit more effort then some other bikes to turn. It isn't as snappy as some other bikes, wanting to be thrown into the turn instead. The seat is not what I'm looking for in an "ENDURO" bike, something more plush and comfy should be spec'd in a bike advertised as a freeride oritented trailbike.
Similar Products Used:Countless other mountainbikes from titanium XC to downhill monsters, Karpiel Armageddon, various Specialized, Kona, Giant.
Bike Setup:Swapped out general purpose SpecialRise bars for RaceFace airalloy, the medium length Sworks stem for a shorter Raceface freeride oriented one, Primo platform pedals, a bike light, '00 Speciailzed computer, a Mavic D321 Disc rim, Geax Sturdy tire (both in the rear), and custom THe/Specialized front fender. Also, I use a CamelBak hydration backpack to overcome the lack of usable waterbottle mounts on this bike.
Bottom Line:Many of my problems are due to the lack of break in time I gave this bike, i rode 35 miles of trails and 15 miles of street before its first tune up and immediatly started abusing the hell out of it. Then all the problems started showing up...

Most of the personal weaknesses I have experianced have not occured to other people I've talked to that have this bike. The ones that I feel are the most important that you should consider if interested in this bike are the bottom bracket and fender. Although I have read another reviewer mention the rim problem, and a different one mention bottom bracket issues, I would still recomend this bike.

I feel like it's just me that has some of these problems and once they are solved this bike will be awesome. Everything so far has been taken care of except the BB which I am going to try to get warranty coverage on, and if not get a heavy duty freeride/DH setup. Most people won't be using this bike for the kind of abuse I have put it though including 15 ft drops plenty of urban assault and some of the nastiest rooty trails I have faced.

Even with all the weaknesses I describe i feel that most of the hurdles are over and that this is a nice ride. For the price at least an LX BB could be used and more of the components that are supposed to come with it, actually could. So the value rating is a bit low, but overall, it is a great ride.

Strengths:Adjustability! I love the Psylo and the itch switch. Hayes.
Weaknesses:Some OEM componants are weak, chain slap, frame construction resonates any sound.

Bottom Line:I love hard technical trails and this fits the bill perfectly. I was really lusting for the Titus but it was out of reach $$. I thought this was a compromise but not anymore. The trails I like have steep climbs and the 80mm setting keeps the front on the ground. I use the 100mm and short travel for the slower singletrack and the long travel front and rear for the fast decents. The bearings keep the travel smooth with no noticable flex. I have not had any of the problems mentioned (yet). I have fasioned some pads where the chain and derailer hit and have quieted it down a bunch. This bike does everything I want very well. It is the same weight as my previous bike (28.5) but feels lighter, could be the lightweight wheels/tires? It climbs the rough stuff so smooth it feels efortless. It would be a better value if some componants did not need to be changed. If I run into problems I will update.

Purchased At:Bow Cycle, Calgary, AB
Strengths:Extremely bob resistant for 5" of travel - lock-out hardly needed
Very light feeling for 29lbs
Excellent all-around ride for aggressive rider
Weaknesses:Frame - Broke at upper shock mount gusset! I mainly ride cross country trails and if I do any urban, anything past two feet is pushing my limits. I'm 190 pounds, but by no means have I abused this bike.
Stem - Bent in a minor lay-over. So weak that I could easily tweak it back to straight by hand!
Seatpost QR - Garbage, replaced it 2nd week I had the bike as seatpost kept sliding down. Purchased Salsa and with light closing force never slips!
Rear derailleur Cable - Section under bottom bracket is to short. replaced with a longer unit to stop auto-shifting on bumps.
Handlebars - Terrible bend, either you set them up to bind your rists or have a weird rise. replaced first week.
15/16 spokes? - Most cross country bikes come with 14/15. Seams weird for a "Enduro" Bike. Kept coming out of true until I replaced them with 14/15 DTs.
Specialized Enduro Tires - both tires have developed bulges in the sidewalls and the rear is wearing very fast. They do there job well though.
Rock Shox Psylo - I've had it bled several times and it keeps developing air in the top of it's compression dampining. Stock spring very weak. Replaced with Extra Firm (black).
Similar Products Used:Rocky Mountain Vertex Hardtail - Took way more abuse and never packed in over five years!!!

Bottom Line:The bike needs a better seatpost QR, stem, bars and spokes right out of the box to consider it reliable. The specialized big-arm cranks keep coming loose and what's with the Deore level - plastic botom bracket. If this was all however, I'd say it was average to above average as it handles awesome, but my frame broke nearly JRA. I've really lost all confidence in this frame now (after the recall as well). Maybe Specialized over-estimated the strength. My old Rocky Mountain Vertex Cross-Country bike has faired five years of much higher abuse without problem. I don't even consider this bike suited to cross country duties unless your under 150 lbs, and I babied this thing.

Strengths:Extremely adjustable. Great ride quality. A little longer frame than previous model year. Smooth suspension travel. Stable at speed. Manuverable at slow speeds. Great as a all around bike. If you can only afford one bike, Specialized makes an excellent choice.
Weaknesses:Low bottom bracket. Very slow warranty response from Specialized(I read in MBAction about a guy who broke an Ellsworth and got it back in a week)(5 weeks and two days before I saw a complete bike). Not sure if it will make it as a long term play bike. Having to step in and argue with company about how to handle problem left a bad taste in my mouth for future purchases.
Similar Products Used:00 FSR Enduro, which the bottom bracket tube stripped out on. Manufacturers defect.
Bike Setup:Pretty much stock except profile dh bars, club roost pedals, Ritchey fuzzy logic headset, and Intense dh tires.
Bottom Line:After bickering with Specialized about the warranty of my old frame, I finally got this one. The whole problem took just over a month to remedy. It was an upgrade (at this point that was the least Specialized could do) from my 00 fsr. The Ride is very much superior to the previous bike. Very stable in ther rough, and at speed. The longer cockpit is better than I thought it would be. I would wish for a higher bottom bracket though. I am also not happy that I had to upgrade my fork at my expense to match the frame size, but I got a better fork, so it isn't so bad. The bike is a definite improvement over the 00 model. I have to admit, that my 98 K2 Beast outrode the 00 fsr, and I was wondering why all I did was spend 2,000+ for a set of disc brakes. If this one doesn't break down, I will be very happy. The ride is very nice, and it is so simple to tune. The lockout is a nice feature, especially when doing the urban thing. I have to say that the ride may erase my bad feelings about the length of time, and the hassle it took to get my bike back on the trail. I will say that right now I will not buy another Specialized, a shame after being almost completely on that brand since 87.

I have taken some good spills and the bike is always left intact (can't say that for my flesh...). I don't have much to compare it to other than other friend's bikes, but for all-around riding I can't see using much else. I can cruise the CC trails or hit some of the technical trails and bash the bike around all day. Just need to check for loose screws, so to speak. It does like to unweight the front a lot during climbs, but I can't tell if it is my inexperience or the bike. Overall, five flaming chili thingies or whatever the hell they are.

Strengths:Climbs well in and out of the saddle. Floats down with ease. Light for its class of bike.
Weaknesses:The Enduro is weak in the quick turns and handling department. You have to drive this bike through the turns and sometimes force the turn. This bike should flow through turns better than it does. However, this bike is a swiss army knife, it does alot of stuff and most of it well enough. I also had the linkage bolt on the right side pop out and destrfoy the small xt chain ring. Since I built the bike my self I could not recoup the damages. Rear Hayes Disc brake rub has been a problem from the begining. I think the rear seat stay which was replaced by Specialized in the recall has a disc mount problem. I have taken the bike to the best mechanics around and they can't fix the brake rub. The bike would not accept an xtr front deraileur. The cable mount was grinding at the frame.

Price Paid: $2400.00
Strengths:This bike is a great value in that it is highly adjustable and very plush for the average XC rider just looking to have fun. Psylo is a great fork and the lockout is nice to have when you hit the road. Fox rear shock is beautiful and the Itch Switch is a nice feature. Most of the time I just use the XC setting w/4" of travel which is more than enough travel for the technical northeast trails here in lower N.Y. It climbs like a tractor and I have never yet spun the rear wheel on a climb whether sitting or standing. Tires are great along w/wheels which make the bike feel light even though it is a bit heavy. Just a fun, plush bike to ride. Exactly what I was looking for. Saddle is great too. No problems w/seatpost as earlier reviewers complained of.
Weaknesses:The bike is a bit heavy but what do you want for 5" of travel front and rear? Bars are way, way too wide for tight technical trails. I cut them down from the stock 670mm to about 600mm and they are much better now, especially for climbing. I also flipped the shock link in the back to the 70.5 degree head angle setting to quicken up the handling. Still kind of a slow handler though, especially on quick turn-ins. Hayes brakes are so-so. I have tried the Magura Marta's and they feel much better in terms of lever feel and overall braking action. Could be the set up on my bike but I would like smaller levers though. Brakes scrub a bit and have been squealing on long descents. This just may be due to break-in though. Power is there when you need it though.SPD 515's are okay, but 959's on a bike in this price range should have been stock. Then again, some companies do not even give you pedals in this price range.
Similar Products Used:Enduro Expert FSR
Bike Setup:completely stock setup for now.
Bottom Line:This bike is exactly what I was looking for. It is plush, yet efficient and a lot of fun to ride. It does not feel heavy due to the db spokes, alloy nipples, light S-Works tires and Mavic 317 rims. It has an almost infinite adjustability which makes it a true "Enduro" bike. Overall, I am very happy with the bike after only 3 mos. ownership and only 4-5 true mtn. rides. I highly recommend this bike to anyone looking for a fun trail bike and who is not too concerned with weight.

Strengths:Biggest strength is the low weight (low 28 lb's for large frame). No other stock bike with this much front and rear travel weighs as little. 120 mm on psylo sl, 4-5.2" on fox float, hayes disc brakes.
Weaknesses:Spec. cheaped out a little on the seat post, stem, head set, and bar.
Poor water bottle location. But where the hell else are you going to put it.
Similar Products Used:Kona bear dee lux (2002), Rock Mountain thin air (hard tail)
Bike Setup:stock except for Race Face XYO seat post. Pricey, but looks a million times better than the stock post.
Bottom Line:This is the "go anywhere, do anything, for as long as you possibly can" bike.

Light enought to climb all day. Enough travel (front and rear) and tought enough to descend all day.

Happy to see that Specialized made the recall fairly quickly. I hope nobody had to die or get seriously hurt for them to issue the recall.

I've put in about 1000km (500 km on trails) so far and everything is working perfectly. I have checked the pivots recently and all are still tight. The shop put "lock-tight" on the pivots when they changed the rear triangle piece.

Psylo not leaking from anywhere like other reviews. Although i can see the spring being too soft for heavier riders. I weigh 160 lbs and the spring is perfect for my weight. I can't say enough about this shock. It soaks up all of the small stuff (roots, small rocks) and most of the medium stuff (obstacles up to 1 foot)with ease. Makes you a better rider in technical situations. This is the first shock where the damping actually works: from super soft to lockout. The u-tun is a nice feature but i rarely use it. Even at 120mm i can still climb the steeps. If i can't climb it at 120mm, i probably could not do it at 80mm. So i just leave it at 120mm full-time.

The rear fox float has been excellent so far. The lockout is a nice feature. I use it sometimes on long flat roads, never on long climbs in-trail. Pedal bob is minimal. It "itch switch" is also nice. I use this more often. I use the 5.2" when going downhill, else I keep it at 4". The shock is actually a little stiffer at 4".

Body geometry of the bike is very comfortable. Have taken a few 3 hr trail rides without back and/or neck pain.

Bought a camel back since there was only one water bottle mount (in a bad location at that). Good for long rides.

Stock tires are good in all situations. Excellent traction.

Excellent in the technical trails, reponsive, quick, and can take a good hit.

Overall, Specialized has put together an excellent package. You can always complain that they cheaped out on some insignificant parts, but have included excellent parts where it actually matters (shocks, brakes, shifters, rear-derailler).

I LOVE THIS BIKE.

5 chills for value since I got a deal (or so they told me) from the shop. retail was $4000 CDN, i paid 3500 CDN.

5 chills for rating because i could not ask for more in a bike.

Weaknesses:BOTTOM BRACKET BOLT BACKED OUT (Hopefully I didn't damage the spline)I had some adjustment problems initially, I'm assuming from either when it was assembled initially or things (cables, etc) stretch at first. I also have a very ANNOYING HOWLING that comes with every other pedal stroke, but not all the time. It only does it when my weight is on the bike. I guess it's just the rotors rubbing (at a loss..)

I put my I-Drive on a scale and it came in at a wopping 38 lbs. I now have a sub 30 pounder, and I can definately notice this on climbs. I still want to figure out this whole "howl-thing" I've got going on. After reading the other reveiws, and if I was thinking of buying one of these bikes, DO IT! But be sure to mention to whoever assembles it, to check all bolts (bottom bracket especially). Strengths:See my previous review 2 floors down
Weaknesses:Well .. this is a "longer-term" review so I've put this bike through some good use & have discovered a few "little" problems. I write this addendum to hopefully help Enduro owners and find out if it's just an "isolated" occurrence.
3 weeks ago my friend's Enduro (Ricardo Solares - see his review below) had the chainstay/frame right pivot bolt come lose. The head of the bolt started rubbing the middle chainring - so that "helped" him realize that something was lose! Otherwise "BYE BYE" pivot - hello dirt in your face! We unscrewed one of the middle chainring bolts & lined it up with the pivot bolt in oder to re-tighten it - always make sure you carry the necessary tools!! The specialized chainring bolts are very easy to loosen ..... & very easy to overtighten & BREAK!!! .... perhaps a change to steel bolts is in order as recommended by my mechanical engineer friend J. Smithwerx. So be careful not to overtighten! As it's easy to do when making repairs in the trail while thanking Specialized's quality control people for their thouroughness. Back @ the home shop a more "permanent" fix was in order! We cleaned the threads on both pivot bolts & chainstay - use a cloth + degreaser, alcohol, or anything you know is safe to use on aluminum. Then apply loctite - I think the blue grade is the recommended - all I had was the red stuff which is stronger an perhaps "not recommended" but hey I don't think I'll be dissassembling that link any time soon .... so we used the red stuff! You gotta let it cure for about 24 hrs so use your friend's bike if you need to. My bike did not show any signs of that problem & I though it was an "isolated" incident... so I (big mistake) did not do the red loctite fix on it + I was packing for my trip to Moab! Well at the end of the day on Slickrock the same thing happened to mine! Fortunately I had all the tools I needed & I re-tighten the bolt on the spot. Later that day I started doing the loctite fix .... I almost messed up the damn threads! so BE EXTREMELY careful when retightening the pivot bolts as they're very easy to "misthread" & for sure Specialized will not honor any warranties if that happens! So 2 similar problems have been witnessed by me .... Will this be a NEW RECALL ???? I'll send a message to Specialized on this as it could cause severe injury if the proper conditions exists! My friend received an email from a MTBR reviewer regarding the bottom bracket cracking easily. Has anyone encountered that problem so far? Well, even with these problems... I still love my Enduro. It rides too well & so far these quality control issues can be easily addressed by a competent home mechanic or by the shop where you purchased the bike from. Let's see what Specialized has to say. I hope they realize that we're here to help the factory identify valid problems and make an excellent product even better. As an engineer I accept problems like this to occur - they happen all the time. I'm sure you've heard of car being recalled for faulty fuel lines, brackets, etc. I just hope there are no more surprise issues with my Enduro!
Bottom Line:Still a great frame & ride - know your bike - know your components - always inspect all parts!

Bottom Line:Just an update; I've been riding in colorado for about three weeks now and love my Enduro more each time I ride it. I cannot believe how good the bike climbs without the lockout! I've been regularly visiting Bergen Peak to ride and made it out to Moab just this past weekend. The Enduro is the IDEAL slickrock bike :) I could climb everything my hard-tailed buddies could and just SMOKED everybody on the descents!

This is the best bike I've ever owned, regardless of any gripes I had about the "house brand" parts in my first review!

Strengths:Horst 4-bar link suspension, Psylo SL, Fox RL ITCH shock, monocoque frame, light-weight yet stiff. Can you say seyaH backwards!
Weaknesses:Specialized components could be better. For a bike in this price range, Specialized should include better components: XTR or RaceFace cranks, Thomson seatpost & stem at least!
Similar Products Used:Costco single pivot, '99 Specialized Enduro Expert (I loved that bike - it should be roaming in Alaska by now!) '00 S-Works all MRP
Bike Setup:Thomson 90mmx15 stem, Thomson seatpost, XT-cranks, Vuelta Freeride wheels, Maxxis tires, Easton Carbon MonkeyLite, Shimano M636 DH pedals, Kore chain reactor, Avid flak jacket teflon gear cables, Oury grips, Salsa seat-collar QR.
Bottom Line:I thought I was fast on my souped up '99 Enduro (Hayes, RS Psylo SL) - This baby really flies on the switch backs and just floats over the rough stuff. But as we all know, (unless you like getting your potential energy by means of shuttling) one must climb in order to go downhill - well at least that's the true mountain biker way! and this bike delivers! It climbs really well and feels light on climbs. You can just set the front end @ 100mm and use the lock-outs for long climbs, then reap the rewards by unlocking & bombing down the trail! Only a few bikes can do all these things decently well & the Enduro is one of them!! Oh yes ... Kudos to Specialized for promptly identifying the seatstay / disc-brake caliper mount cracking issue (did someone actually die perhaps?) Anyways a couple of weeks after I purchased it I got the safety notice on the mail & took the bike in to SuperGo where the cool mechanics replaced the seatstay in about 30 min just before the shop closed! Muchas Gracias Compadres!! If only Ford had proceeded in a similar way for their Explorer / Firestone little problem....
If you are X-XC (X-treme Cross-Country) Rider (hey that's a new category I just came up with!!) this bike is for you! No perhaps it's not the bike to get for making 20'+ drops but this bike will easily soak up 5 footers and get you there without having to shuttle!!
I'll give 4 Tapatios for value (hey don't skimp on the components!!) & 5 Cholulas for the superb ride !!

Strengths:Light, YES, very light for its package. only 27.8 lbs stock. This bike climbs sweet on the rocky hills and just flies on the downhills. Awesome shocks. Fox float with itch (short travel/long travel selection) lock-out. Rock Shox Psylo SL front shock with U-turn (adjustable travel) and lock-out.
Weaknesses:Only one xtr component, Rear Derailer, for its PRICE TAG. Thin wheels, tire already poped out on me on a mild single trail crash. I was fortunate that a tall buddy was near by with a pump to aid me in reajusting the tire.
Similar Products Used:GT XCR-4000 i-drive
Bike Setup:Stock with the exception of Shimano M-545 pedals, Monkey Lite carbon handle bars. And Possible upgrade to a Thomson Stem (new in bag with stickers) Its all about the stickers.
Bottom Line:I like this bike. I have already had the recalled seat stay replaced by the good guys at Super blo. Santa monica. I feel faster with this bike, mmhhh maybe just perception and I just want to feel faster. I'll give this puppy a 4, only cause I haven't had it long enough to really appreciate/hate this bike.

Strengths:Hey, Hey, Hayes Disks Baby! Fox RLC, XTR Derr., Horst Four Bar Suspension is plush.
Weaknesses:Not sold on the Psylo yet, seat post, stem, bars. This is a difficult bike to test ride- lots of adjustments to dial in for its full potential. Bug your dealer incessantly!
Similar Products Used:Old Mac-Strut Specialized, various hardtails.
Bike Setup:Removed all CPSC items, stickers, fenders, Thomson post/stem, Pro Tapers.
Bottom Line:I love this bike. But it took for ever and a day to set it up; proper sag, damping, etc. There are almost too many adjustable items to "set it and forget it." But, I've tuned it pretty well, and use the lock-outs for climbing. I've not had it that long, so stay tuned! Also, I feel that some reviewers give chilis too easily. Any weakness should denote a loss of heat. So, 3 for value due to the skimping on tactile items like seat post and stem, and 4 overall- if it had a Marzocchi Z.1 FR, it would definately be a 5. Buy this bike if you like to tweak-n-tune!

Bottom Line:Best Enduro yet!! Finally a five inch travel bike that is light enough to climb on all day. Having u-turn and climb-it control technology, the Psylo SL is a very versitile fork. The Itch Switch is a great addition to the rear suspension. The FSR design climbs efficient enough that you don't need the lock-out. Can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Strengths:Fox Float ITch Shock - It Works! Mostly solid component spec, Psylo Sl fork...beefy frame, solid platform for upgrades, can either go towards lightweight trailbike or mid-weight freeride bike...
Weaknesses:Too many Specialized house-brand components on a $3000 bike. Should be more name brand, better performing items. Saddle is waaay too hard for serious trail/free riding, a seatpost/seat creaking issue that was unfixable until both S-works parts were replaced with real equipment. S-Works Enduro Pro tires wear way too easy, knobs rip off on a ride to ride basis.
Similar Products Used:Had a 98 FSR Elite, and hated it. Most recently have abusing my 99 Klein Attitude Race.
Bike Setup:02 Enduro Pro, medium, stock except for: Thomson Elite 90mm stem and seatpost, WTB Speed V Ti saddle, XTR cranks and BB, Monkey Lite Carbon Riser Bars, Intense Lock On DH grips, Shimano DH SPD pedals, WTB 2.5" Weirwolf front tire, 2.4" Motoraptor rear tire.
Bottom Line:Let me start by saying I LOVE THIS BIKE. I had forgotten how much fun mountain biking could be, I have spent the last two years getting my back readjusted on a weekly basis by my Klein hardtail. Riding had become a function of fitness, and that's all. Wow, I don't know what else to say, this bike just plain makes riding fun again. For so long I was consumed with LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT, but if you read my setup, I am now all about comfort. And the funny thing is, I haven't been getting any slower, I still school my riding buddies every weeek, even more so on the downhills.

My only complaint is the abundance of Specialized brand components on the bike. Don't get me wrong, I love Specialized frames and bikes for the most part, but on a $3000 bike? Their parts are not THAT good. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought the Expert complete, or the Expert frame and built it from there. Hindsight is 20/20...but I LOVE THIS BIKE...5 chilis for overall, 4 chilis for value (generic parts)...

Strengths:Hayes brakes are incredible. Shimano XT/XTR. Monster tires. Rips through the downhill yet still climbs very well. Adjustable and lockable front and rear suspension are great for customizing the bike for climbs, pavement, downhill, etc. Tires supposedly have better pinch flat resistance. I haven't had the guts to lower the pressure though. Psylo is very smooth and easy to adjust height. Fox shock has switch to go from 4 inches to 5.2 - very useful for short up sections on the downhills. Upright riding position. Riser bars make for more comfort, control and leverage. Relatively low weight. The deal I got - 15% off all bikes during LBS special.
Weaknesses:Disc brake bolts loosened after 2 days of riding. Psylo fork won't lockout at 4 - 5 inch settings. Disc brakes require Torx T-25 wrench. LBS has or will fix the above problems and gave me a T-25 wrench. Only space for one water bottle - under down tube. Geometry can be challenging when putting bike on car rack. I still have not yet received fenders. Handle bars may be a little too wide for some.
Similar Products Used:GT I-Drive 2.0, Kona Stinky, Specialized 2001 Enduro
Bike Setup:Stock except for Ritchey Ti-axled pedals and Specialized Body Geometry Saddle
Bottom Line:WOW,what an amazing and versatile bike. Had I not gotten a nice discount, I still would have purchased this bike. It is comfortable and hauls a$$. The weaknesses are insignificant when compared to the rest of the bike. If you are in the market for a DS trailbike, you must test ride the Enduro. If your idea of "mountain biking" entails a short 4 -5 mile loop done once or twice a week, you might want to look at a Rockhopper FSR. If riding 20 miles with 3000 feet of vertical and ripping down some rock infested, singletrack going too fast to take your eyes off the trail for half a second to see your speed, is your idea of mountain biking, then this bike is just what you need! Obviously 5 chilis due to bike shop sale. Overall a great compromise between a lightweight DS and a heavy freeride. Even with the few minor problems, I still give it 5 chilis for overall. GO TEST RIDE ONE! You'll probably end up buying it!

Strengths:super tunable suspension, front and rear. adjustable BB height and head angle. very light considering how strong it is! excellent parts spec for the most part.
Weaknesses:light but painful seat, no name setapost, low end stem and bars, flexy truvativ cranks. all in all nothing you can't deal with. Hace to use specialized seat clamp to use rear fender and also must use Zip ties to use downtube fender
Similar Products Used:I have owned more FSR's than anyone, and from what I can tell this is by far the best one ever to roll out of Morgan Hill (read: Taiwan). lighter and stronger than previous models and unlike recent designs, this bike has a nice high bottom bracket (12.8-13.3"). Between the ITCH rear shock and the Psylo you can tune it for anything from XC race to shuttle runs. i have never had an air shock before and I am very impressed with the feel of this unit! The longet top tube is also a nice change. As far as the guy below saynig not to use grease on a carbon post, he is right, but the bike comes with a no name alloy post which does require grease, so don't go running down to your local shop crying bud, it's probably your own fault for not wiping out the excess grease after replacing the original seatpost.
Bike Setup:Easton Scandium 1.5" rise bars, Thomson 90mm 0 rise stem, King Sealed headset, XT Hollow Tech cranks and BB. Thomson seatpost and WTB Laser V Ti DH saddle (Thanks to Mark Weir!), DX platform pedals, D321 hoops laced with 14g spokes to XT disc hubs. WTB Mutano Raptor kevlar 2.25 front tire and WTb velociraptor 2.1 Kevlar rear tire. Salsa Skewers and flip lock. With all of this the bike still weighs only 30.5 lbs!!
Bottom Line:This bike RIPS! if you are under 180lbs or so and ride smooth you will love this bike for any type of conditions. The future of MTN bikes.

For those of you who have trouble with the seatpost not staying put..your shop probably put grease in there and should not have. There is absolutly no reason to grease a carbon post, what do they think - it's gonna rust and stick?
This will cause you to use way too much clamping force to keep it from slipping...bad, bad, bad.
Use a degreasr and wipe off all the grease from that area, then call the person that asembled the bike and tell them their an idiot!

Strengths:Four-bar linkage, geometry that wills you to rip the downhill but still climbs well, weight, brakes, almost everything
Weaknesses:The Physlo is a great fork if you are a light rider like me, however in the 5 inch setting you can feel it flex under heavy braking. Specialized cranks are really light, but a bit flexy, they should have burlier cranks on a bike with this geometry. Damn, I hate the seat and seatpost, the seatpost won't stay in one place and teh seat is light, but it bruises my ass.
Similar Products Used:Giant AC Air, Kona Stinky Delux, Rocky Mountain Switch, Specialized Big Hit Comp
Bike Setup:Stock, haven't had the time cash to get rid of the seat, seat post, and cranks (which really aren't THAT bad).
Bottom Line:This is really a fantastic bike. Burly but light. I love it. I am not a total cross country rider, but I thought that that was the closest thing, I love long climbs, epic downhills, urban assualt and North Shore type stuff, this bike takes it all in stride. It is a great freeriding bike, it just does it all. Sure, for straight downhill it has a bit of flex in the fork, but what can you expect? It is meant to go everywhere, up, down, and over. The bikes geometry in set up more for going downhill, sort of like a big hits geometry, but it maintains its climbing ability, no need for the lockout. This bike is for those who like to do it all. I gotta say though, you need to be good to ride it, I am not yet good enough, it is not a beginners bike. It is very responsive, and if you screw up, it will toss you, once you learn how to ride, its fantastic, but it is not a beginners bike. I was doing urban the first day, and I went off a 4 footer, this is small, I do more on my hardtail, but I didn't have the bike set up right and now may face is black and blue and my lip is the size of a orange. I LOVE THIS BIKE!!!

Strengths:ITCH rear shock, Psylo SL, Hayes disc brakes, bettery geometry than the older FSR bikes.
This bike is really fun!
Weaknesses:Seat/seatpost combo weighs lots. Comes with fenders that your friends will make fun of and also weigh a lot. The 27" bar was way too wide for me, swapped it for a 24" monkeylite. STRONGARM II crankarms are not stiff!-they are light, but pretty flexy. Specialized seatpost QRs are the worst design ever.
Similar Products Used:99 FSR enduro pro (cramped geometry) - sucked!
Bike Setup:Stock except for Thopson seatpost, selle san marco carbon light seat, salsa SP QR, monkeylite bar, XTR crankset/bb, speedplay pedals. The only thing left really is to upgrade to a king headset.
Bottom Line:This is my first FS bike I've ever owned and I absolutely love it. It's taking some getting used to, but I find that I can ride a lot longer without getting punished (my other bikes are: SC Chameleon & DeKerf singlespeed). I'm still working on figuring out the rear shock pressure for my riding style. The ITCH rear shock is great! You need to demo an enduro to see what I'm talking about.

If you buy this bike, you won't be disappointed.
