Battery life not as good as other computers. | | Similar Products Used: | Sigma 1200, Cateye Astrale 8 | | Bike Setup: | Trek 4500 -- stock with upgraded wheels and Avid BB7 disc brakes. | | Bottom Line: | I bought this computer when a mild crash on my MTB severed the thin wire to my previous Sigma 1200. I like the heavy gauge wire and easy-to-read display. I have replaced the rubber band on the fork sensor with zip ties for better security. The stem mount feature protects the computer unit from damage, but is more difficult to read from the saddle than most handlebar mounted units due to the angle of the stem. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Temperatures below -10 degrees celcius of course cause the LCD display to slow down and freeze, but the computer always measures the distance and recovers when returned to warmer temperature.
If you make sure you hear a click when attaching the computer to its holder, it almost certainly doesn't fall (at least mine hasn't a single time). Anyway, it probably wouldn't be a problem if it did fall as long as you find it. I have dropped my computer (accidently of course) from stairways as high as four floors and the computer has survived completely unharmed, only the casing has gotten some bruises!
I've driven about 10000km with the same batteries (2,5years) and the batteries are still OK.

$18.00 | | Purchased At: | nashbar.com | | Strengths: | Sturdy and simple large buttons you can still use with winter gloves; thick cable mounting | | Weaknesses: | Short battery life; mounting not universal; no cadence option | | Similar Products Used: | BC 1400; Cateye Enduro 2 | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale CAAD4; Fatty Headshok; XT/SRAM 9.0 drivetrain; Syncros wheels | | Bottom Line: | A basic, reliable cyclocomputer from Sigma Sports tailored for MTBers.
The stem mount is nice if your handlebar is crowded, however make sure your stem is long enough (probably 90mm or more) so that the computer can slide up and off the mount. The curve of the mount is not designed for oversized stems, but it will stil stay put fairly well.
For those that can't get the mount or receiver on the stem or fork--stretch those rubber bands; that's what they are for! They seem to hold very securely, especially on the larger stems/forks, as the rubber is pulled nice and taught (though it is a little tricky to mount at first).
The magnet and mount are fairly easy to take off one bike and put on another, though after a while it's worth the extra $ to buy an extra so you can just move the computer. Two wheelset size settings makes this easy.
The battery life on these computers seems to be shorter than others. My first one lasted less than 6 months. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Water resistant, looks great, no useless functions, the average speed helps me pace myself during races; overall does what it says it will do | | Weaknesses: | Stem mount won't fit on short stems (<100 mm.). You also can't put the magnet on aero-bladed spokes of the Mavic CrossMax wheelset. -WOULD BE A LOT BETTER WITH A BACKLIGHT-

I didn't like the stem mount and upgraded to the RCS wireless mount which is working great. I race in the State and NORBA series in Junior II Men's Category and it has made it through stuff that I almost didn't. Unfortunately, the casing is not actually titanium, just Ti color, but it still is pretty durable.
They should make a cyclocomputer that has a full Ti casing.
Sigma Sport should also consider putting backlights into their computers like Cateye. It would cost more, but it would help a lot during night riding.
5 flamin poopies on value, 4 overall because of the lack of backlight and the ackward stem mount. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Seems to have features, construction and looks that make it a good value. However, I could not mount the sensor on my suspension fork. Boots and brake mounts were in the way. The largest problem seemed to be that the sensor on the fork needs to be within 5mm of the spoke sensor. Accounting for the sensor size this means that the inside of the fork tube must be within 28mm of the spoke (at the rim). Another great idea that keeps the computer from getting wet or stolen, is being able to remove the computer from the mount. On the trail I have not experienced any problems and the unit seems to be very durable. I have taken several spills without any computer related problems and I dont have any reason to think the unit will quit any time soon.
If you have a long stem and are looking for a good solid computer with all the major off road features then I would check into this computer. It is good value that could be even better if they put a few more sizes of rubber bands in the kit.
I am going to give it four flamers overall because of the way it works on my short stem. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

And installing it on stem is a very bad idea. WHY???!!!??? | | Similar Products Used: | Sigma Sport BC800 | | Bike Setup: | No problem | | Bottom Line: | DON'T BUY IT!!! BUY BC800, WHICH IS CHEAPER AND AS GOOD AS TARGA. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Lee, New Hampshire Date Reviewed: February 1, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Ones with long, technical downhills | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | Lots of features, mounts on stem, big buttons. | | Weaknesses: | May not fit on all stems. | | Similar Products Used: | Two Cateyes, and a few others. | | Bike Setup: | '99 Fisher Paragon | | Bottom Line: | This is a good computer for the money. Features include: Clock, trip meter, speed ([MPH or KMH] current speed, average speed, max. speed), riding time, odometer, +/- indicater (relative to average speed) and a settable odometer (so you can set it when you replace the battery, replace old computer, etc.). The metal body and the thick wire is definately a plus; however, since the wire is thick, it can sometimes be hard to routefrom the stem to the fork. There are two main buttons on the unit (the third is for setting it) which are big and easy to push with gloved fingers. Since one button is at the top and the other is at the bottom, it is hard to hit the wrong one accidently. The display is nice and big, so it's easy to find what you're looking for quickly. This computer is really modern looking too, it looks cool. A plus and minus about this computer is it mounts on the stem. This is really nice if you have risers. However, if you are standing up, it can sometimes be hard to read. Also, I had a hard time mounting this on my Bontrager stem. It fits but just barely. For many people, this fill be a problem. The computer is removable, so it is easy to clean the contacts and/or prevent theft. The whole sha-bang mounts without tools; it uses elastics. I have used this in 105 degree weather and -15 degree weather, and the elastics haven't had a problem yet, but only time will tell. Anyway, out of the 4 or 5 different computers I have used, this is the best, hands down. It gets 5 Flamin' Chilis. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The computer gets mounted on the stem which puts it out of the way although it seems a little flimsy. | Overall Rating: |

The heavy duty wire helps to put my mind at ease and all the useful info is...well...useful. Go get one or spend more and get a wireless. | Overall Rating: |

The outside is silver metal and plastic, so it looks betterand more modern then some other computers at this price. It has a few more features then some of the others, but nothing that stands out. Dual trip distance would have been nice. Note that it mounts not on your bars but on your stem. While I think this is the ideal location, many bikers with short or oddly shapped stems are left sol. It is easily removed for theft protection, but unless you have an extra long stem you will have a little trouble doing so, as the end of the stem gets in the way. Lastly, it uses rubber bands for mounting. This may not be a problem, but if you have a bad crash they may rip. They also look like heavy exposure to the elements would make them crack and snap after a while, allthough I have not had any troubles yet. In my opinion, if it fits your bike and you don't want the better features offered by 50$+ computers then buy this one. | Overall Rating: |

It fits okay on the standard stem (the pad doen't fit quiet right and the bands that hold it on are pretty stretched) It works fine and doesn't mark the finish on the bike. Overall it is good if it will mount on your bike. | Overall Rating: |

from Australia Date Reviewed: August 3, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | Looks Good | | Weaknesses: | Cannot be mounted on most MTB's | | Similar Products Used: | Echowell Cateye | | Bottom Line: | I bought this computer because of the features, sturdiness and looks, but when I got the thing home I couldnt mount it. This is Sigma's MTB computer, designed for that purpose with thick cable and a steel protected computer. What they dont tell you is that this computer is also designed to mount on your stem, but the only stems they fit are road bike stems! I have a Kore stem and there was no way that this computer would fit. The problem is in the half moon cutaway on the mount, the size of the cutaway is designed to fit handlebar diameter stems, and most MTB's these days have large fat stems that will not fit.I think Sigma should have thought this through a little better. | Overall Rating: |

Accurate. | | Weaknesses: | Does not turn itself off! Mounting is kind of strange. | | Similar Products Used: | Vetta C-20 | | Bike Setup: | '99 Gary Fisher Tassajara | | Bottom Line: | Works pretty well. One complaint is that the mountain bracket attaches to the stem, not the handlebar - which is unlike anything else I've seen. Overall, though - easy to use and accurate to .01. | Overall Rating: |
