Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $400.00
    Purchased At:wiggle
    Strengths:Looks, stiffness, smooth
    Weaknesses:FREEHUB
Bottom Line:Thought that the couple things i saw about the freehub "wouldnt happen to me" as they usually are very limited cases. WRONG. More i looked around after the failure turning my bike into a fixie, the more reports i saw outside of this page. Waiting for replacement...may just get a refund and go with saomething else. Shame, i really liked these wheels for the first hour i got to ride on them (yes, failed after 1 hour!). I have a hard time rating this because without the failure id give 4.5 stars (would like them a little lighter) but i cant believe this crap.

    Strengths:Super light, strong and stiff.
    Weaknesses:Rear hub issue.
    Similar Products Used:Mavic Cross trail.
Bottom Line:These rims are cool, but I have experienced a similar rear hub problem to the review above. Not a fun situation after dropping 550 on a wheelset. We'll see what shimano does about it. I would go with mavic instead of these, which I previously had. Shimano has made worse and worse products over the years while charging more and more. Just because they have a monopoly on patents doesn't mean they should make poor products.

    Date Reviewed: July 24, 2008
    Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Light weight, seems they stay true
Weaknesses:Freehub died after about 15 rides.
Similar Products Used:Circa 1997 XT hubs/Bontrager Mustang rims - lasted me 10 years!
Bike Setup:Fuji Reveal 2.0, full XT gruppo
Bottom Line:The freehub started grinding after about 15 rides. I couldn't backpedal and had to maintain a continuous pedalstroke or else the cassette would push the chain along and tweak my derailleur. We'll see what happens after I get it replaced on warranty. I don't do big drops or abuse the bike in any way, just your basic Montana Forest Service trail riding. My last XT freehub is still going after 10 years of punishment. Maybe I just caught a bad batch, but I have to say I'm pretty bummed with this wheel.

    Date Reviewed: June 24, 2008
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $620.00
    Purchased At:Cyclingo
    Strengths:Strong rims.
    Very light for their price.
    Smooth rolling.
    They look great.
    Weaknesses:Rear hub workmanship.
You need an extra large spoke key for adjustments.
Similar Products Used:Alex rims, cheaper shimano, bontrager
    Bike Setup:Merida Hardtail
Bottom Line:The front wheel is the perfect value upgrade. Light yet strong. The paint job looks good too.
The rear wheel is also great if has been put together correctly. When I first got the wheelset I had trouble with what I thought was a bent disc. It later turned out to be that the hub hadn't been put together properly and as a consequence the axil was not true which led to the wheel bearings coming loose and the disc not being true. Would have got 5 chillies if this problem didn't exist.
Shimano replaced the wheel though via my LBS and all is sweet now.
My first set of tubeless wheels. Excellent!

    Favorite Trail:all of them
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $600.00
    Purchased At:lbs
Strengths:stiff wheelset ,roll well, stay true, tubeless tires lose 1 psi per week with no sealant, quality, price
    Weaknesses:08 xt rear freehub failures
    Similar Products Used:mavic crossmax
    Bike Setup:chromag, lyric u-turn
Bottom Line:good stiff wheelset for heavier cross country, all mtn rider (220lbs)would be good light freeride wheelset for lighter rider, rim finish resists rock scratches well, blown out 2 08 xt rear freehubs, one on this wheelset and one on my mavic 823/xt wheelset, centerlock brakes (08 xt) are very good, complement the wheelset
