Weaknesses:
Rear hub loosens on the drive side, greased poorly.
Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
With less than 100 miles on the rear hub it loosened up on the drive side. I called bike shops and they said the XT is notorious for this. I would buy this hub again. But I would take it apart, grease it, and tighten it down before I used it. The freehub also has some play because the grease dissolved when exposed to water. It's wet here.

Strengths:
decent for a cheap hub, easily changable from qr axel to bolt on axel
Weaknesses:
bearings and axel keep coming loose every mile or so switched to bolt on axel still come loose but not as severe as with the qr axel, engagment on freewheel slips at random.
Similar Products Used:
sun ringle, redline, surly 1x1, oynx, atomlab, mid to late 90 xtr and xt, many others
Bike Setup:
norco 250,S.S.(of course) marz. DJ1 20mm axel, GT cranks, hays 8" hydros, atomlab trail pmps, atomlab air corps pedals, k-rads,
Bottom Line:
for the price not bad would recomend switching the axels around. they have taken lots of abuse as all my parts do and have held up. bearings could be a tad smoother. they do have a taller spoke flange which is good. i would still recomend the ringle's and if u have the extra $$ and skills opt. for the avalible pro kits makes a world of difference in smoothness and engagment.

Strengths:
Durable, good engagement
Weaknesses:
Not sure if this is shimanos fault but the freewheel is starting to go
Bottom Line:
This hub is a pretty good value and has worked well for me in normal conditions. The only problem I've had is that the bearings went to sh!t after I rode through a monsoon (mud puddles up past the hub, absolutely ridiculous) But after overhauling the bearings they've worked good. The freewheel is now slowly dieing but I'm pretty sure that's from left overs from the storm.

Strengths:
didn't find any
Weaknesses:
heavy, poor water and dirt protection, non serviceable
Similar Products Used:
XSiv mid, Formula (some of the cheapest)
Bottom Line:
Bought this hub instead of my died formula hub that was in stock on my bike and lasted for about 4000km in heavy riding conditions (mud, water, sand, snow). I was really surprised when XT hub came in bad condition after only 500km. I've disassembled and cleaned up bearings but the problem with serviceableness of freewheel body remains. Washing and oiling didn't solve the problem. Separately freewheel impossible to by here. So the hub is unusable anymore.

Strengths:
Smooth spinning. Adjustable. XT quality
Weaknesses:
found it had loosened one day for no apparent reason. Little dirt found its way past the first seal.
Great hubs (f/r). Relatively light and trouble free. Haven't serviced them yet. Smooth spinning. Only one instance of trouble with the rear and its seems fine now. Affordable too!
