Where To Buy

JensonUSA

Cambria Bicycle Outfitters

Date Reviewed: December 14, 2008
Favorite Trail:Misery
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:lbs
Strengths:Serviceable, rebuildable, basic, cheep
Weaknesses:you'll need to service/rebuild the hubs, possibly more frequently than other decent hubs
Similar Products Used:deore, xt, wtb, surly, various hubs for the road/fix bike
Bike Setup:I've had these same lx non-disc hubs on bikes for the trail, commuting, "tour", etc.
Bottom Line:These hubs do what they're suppsed to do: they spin well, and when they don't spin well, you service 'em. The rear cones come a bit loose pretty frequently, so i tighten em up. Every year, you'll want to buy new hubs and cannibalize the new ones' guts for the old ones. You could rebuild the wheel, but that'd cost more and/or be more work and it won't be necessary. The hub shells last nicely, and if you use everything from the new hubs (bearings, seals, cones, hardware, freehub body, QRs) you won't likely have issues. You could buy all of these things separately, but quality bearings aren't easily available, and you'll pay thru the nose if you buy all that stuff piecemeal at a place like jensonusa. Like, $45 for all the stuff you get with a complete hub, or the complete hub for $25 (lx non-disc). I find rebuilding hubs to be fun, but it may seem like a nuisance to some. Choose accordingly.
