Modern Bike

Submitted by reviewer a Weekend Warrior from Outside
Date Reviewed: June 10, 2009
Favorite Trail:all
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $16.00
Purchased At:many places
Strengths:its so called 'standard' chain for 8x shimano cassetes, should work with them pretty well, looks solid
Weaknesses:instant rust
instead of getting longer, chain breaks!
Similar Products Used:hg30, hg40, hg53, various sram chains
Bike Setup:weekend warrior
Bottom Line:i had few hg50's and they are decent shimano chains. you cant expect much from them althro they should work well if maintained propertly. probably commuting is best usage for them, be prepared for worst if you are using them for other purposes like sporting or long tours(80+ miles). be warned that those chains preffer to break themselves instead of streching. be sure to connect it propertly or you will be sorry :S

Submitted by Jon a Cross Country Rider from Brisbane, Australia
Date Reviewed: May 4, 2008
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $27.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:It works. Not showing signs of excessive wear.
Weaknesses:Seems to suck in any loose dirt and gravel more often than competing chains. A little expensive when compared with a generic KMC chain which seems to be identical in form and function.
Similar Products Used:KMC generic, SRAM model I've forgotten
Bike Setup:1997 Gemini Echo Beach, Deore FD, Deore XT RD, Alivio cranks/chainrings and shifters
Bottom Line:Expensive for no real gain. Busted a link for no apparent reason after only 80KM. Next time I think I'll just buy a generic KMC, a third the price.

Date Reviewed: December 11, 2007
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:OEM
Strengths:No problems at all, came stock on bike. Keep it clean and lubed and has never given me a problem and I'm a 215lb rider who rides 3-4 times a week and does just as much uphill as i do down hill.
Weaknesses:none so far
Bike Setup:Specialized HR Sport, RS Dart 3, Sun Rims on XT Hubs, Truvativ 2.2 crank, rest is stock but more upgrades to come soon.
Bottom Line:no problems at all.
