Strengths:Comfy, tough through alot of abuse
Weaknesses:Heavy

Bike Setup:SS
Bottom Line:I was given this saddle 2+ years ago from a buddy who got it on his Maverick. He hated it and so I thought I'd give it a go. I wasn't sure for the first week or so, (coulda been that I was out of shape and my azz hadn't seen a saddle in months too). After the first week it got better, and better.
It has held up great, no peeling, no tears, it just works.

I like it so well I just bought another for my roadie. Granted, i'm not a little guy either, 5'11 and 215#, but hey I like it.

Strengths:Durable and comfortable (once you break it in)
Weaknesses:Heavy for a saddle
Similar Products Used:cheap saddles that come with new bikes
Bike Setup:Pinerello "work horse" steel frame
Look KG 381 (carbon)
Specialized StumpJumper (hardtail)
Bottom Line:From the age of 45 to about 50, my saddle problems began. Before 45, I use to ride a very slender racing saddle. I bought one of these saddles about 4-5 years ago, and it took me about 6 months to really break it in. Once it was broken in, I liked it, and used it for long rides. I would go back-and-forth from this saddle to my old racing saddle until one day I developed prostate problems -- that was then end of the "slim racing saddle days". I now totally use this saddle on all three bikes. I also tilt the tip a little down so that it forces me to use my "butt bones" instead of putting pressure on the prostate. The saddle has lasted a long time, doesn't squeek, and absorbs moisture well on those hot summer days.

Strengths:Design. The center cut out was a superb innovation. It may be common, but I'd never seen it before. It allows me to rotate my pelvic bone down and engage my legs while taking the strain off my low back. Other "solid" saddles were so hard that after 30 minutes to an hour I started to go numb. Padding along the sides conforms well.
Weaknesses:The "flare" at the saddle tip or nose catches the seam on shorts or bib from time to time. I ride with my knees angled in, so when I get out of the saddle to climb, I have to bow my left of right leg to clear the saddle.

Strengths:Very well made seat, great rails, looked very cool on the bike.
Weaknesses:Super firm and a bit too wide at the rear, kept on rubbing on my inner thighs and the firmness just killed the whole experience after 30 minutes or so.

Bottom Line:Great quality seat if you have plenty of padding on your rear end and quite wide at the waist line, otherwise if you have a boney narrow ass as I do, look for something a bit softer and a bit more narrow. You'll be much happier in the long run.

Strengths:Durable, holds up well, comfortable. It doesn't squeak, I don't know how you could make it squeak unless you have a crappy seatpost mount. I've had a few saddles over the years and I'm pretty happy with this one. As with all saddles, it takes a while for it to break in and your butt to get used to it. It's funny to hear people talking about how their butt is fine for the first 30 mins but then hurts after that. Anytime you go to a new saddle, the saddle has to break in and your butt has to get used to how it fits. The test for me is after I've ridden on it for about 150 miles and it's broken in, how does it feel when I'm in the saddle for 3 or more hours. This saddle feels great. It is well padded and eventually conforms to your butt.
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:a lot of other saddles
Bike Setup:yeah that
Bottom Line:Saddles are a pretty personal thing and everyone rides differently. The saddle before this one was a Bonetrager and it was very uncomfortable to me so I only had it for a short while. This saddle was immediately more comfortable, but took a bit to break in before it became really comfortable to be in over 3 hours. Now, I don't even think about it and that's the way it should be. I've had this saddle a couple of years and can't really think of using anything else. Since this is the best saddle I've had and anything less than $200 is cheap to me considering what parts of your body are involved here, I'm giving it 5 out of 5.

Leather peeled on my first saddle after 1yr. Purchased another one and leather peeled on this saddle after 8 months. Talked to the people at colorado cyclists and they said they've had problems with the Selle Italia saddles and they will not warranty the peeling.
Lot of money to pay for a 1yr saddle.

Weaknesses:Can get squeaky at the pivoting rail mounts
Similar Products Used:WTB SST's, old Specialized, Bontragers, Flite Ti
Bike Setup:My road saddle
Bottom Line:This saddle has held up to 3,000 miles and still feels & looks good. I find my comfort on it relates to my fitness level. When I'm at top form, centuries go by with ease. When I'm carrying extra pounds, its not so great. I think this means the saddle does its job when I do. The only drawback I find is that it can squeak where the frame rails pivot in their mounts. I hit each location with silicone spray and the noise disappears for months. Good saddle.

Strengths:Quality construction.
Weaknesses:None
Bottom Line:I had this saddle on my mountain bike for 9 months and, while I generally found it comfortable, I felt that it was slightly more difficult to slide around than other saddles that I have used. In other words, dropping back on downhills etc. Perhaps it is a bit too wide for that purpose (when matched with my ass). A few months ago, I put it on my road bike. I find it phenomenal for that purpose. Bottom line, I find it a better road saddle than mtb saddle.

Strengths:I like this saddle at first ride or two. But the more I rode it the more it caused me tailbone pain. Riding on the road up to the trailhead became agonizing. I was riding 2 to 3 times a week and had to cut down to just once per week to cut down on the pain. It got so bad after one long ride that I had to sit on the side of my arse and occasionally switch from cheek to cheek while driving. A friend has this same saddle and loves it, but I am selling mine on ebay. I weigh about 220 lbs. so maybe that has something to do with it. So while my broken arm is healing I am pondering what its replacement will be. Never had a problem like this on other saddle I have had.
Weaknesses:Makes my tailbone cry

Bike Setup:saddle was on a 2003 ellsworth id, is now going on a custom curtlo steel hardtail or it is going in the trashcan
Bottom Line:My arse must be a mutant because I don't see too many people writing about this much pain. I love Selle Italia saddles in general, but HATE this one.

Weaknesses:Some break in time
Similar Products Used:Specialized Stock, Serfas RX Gel saddle.
Bike Setup:Canondale Hardtail, (so old that shocks don't work)
Bottom Line:The saddle soaks up some of the little bumps, it's a slim sleek design, lightweight. After the break-in it's great on the sit bones, but it does take time to break in. At NO point did I feel any... 'special' discomfort, and I ride long and hard. Take your time to find the sweet spot, adjust carefully, It's a great seat, the Serface RX now feels Way too cushy, I can feel the presure from the Serface where quite frankly it isn't welcome, it also feels like it's diggin into... enough of that.

Get the Selle Italia Trans Am with ti rails. A great improvement.

Purchased At:Borrowed from a Friend
Strengths:Good suspension system.
Weaknesses:Rather hard seat.
Similar Products Used:Flite Gelflow
Bike Setup:Giant Iguana + Time Pedals and Flite Gelflow Seat
Bottom Line:I borrowed this saddle from a friend because I was looking to upgrade the generic Giant saddle after it started giving me numbness and muscle pains while pedalling.

Although I found it gave very good support and the suspension sytem ("wings" for rear mountings of rails) let it soak up a lot of bumps very easily, I found the padding on the top of the seat simply too hard to actually conform to my butt. I don't know whether this is just me.

In the time I used it however, it gave me no problems with muscle pain or numbness and was a good saddle . . . I ended up with the Flite Gelflow because I have a skinny butt (the Flite is slightly narrower than the Max Flite) and the Gel is remarkably better padding than the harder closed cell foam.

It has an odd shape to it though,a nd took some getting used to. The back side is wider than the Flites.

Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:The saddle fits me and I don't get any numbness in "the area" after long rides
Weaknesses:Not for road biking - for that I would recommend the slimmer regular Flite TA model. Older versions have the ugly orange colored stitching.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Body Geometry - did not fit me well so i would not recommend it.
Bottom Line:My local bike shop let me borrow a used Max Flite Trans Am model to try out before I made the purchase. I have used this saddle over the past four months and have been very happy. I have not heard any creaking or other noises that others are complaining - may it has something to do with the seat post ? I run the Thomson elite mountain model.

After the initial trial period on the used saddle, I went ahaed and bought a new one for my bike. I could have gotten it cheaper by going through a mailorder or Internet company. But my LBS was kind enough to try this saddle out for free, And they are the only ones who could guarantee getting me the newer model that has white stitching, insteal of the ugly orange stuff.

Saddle comfort is a very personal thing. Go to your LBS and try to get a used one of the model you like and use it for a few weeks to see if it is the one for you. If you like it, buy it from your LBS - it may cost $10-15 more, but support them because a good LBS provides better service than any mailorder company ever could.

Weaknesses:Creaky

Bottom Line:This was the 6th saddle in a series of many I tried and its finally the one I settled on, buy hey seating comfort is very subjective. This saddle is the one that made me realize I required a seat with a perenial relief cutout. The creaking noise is easily remedied by silicon spray just as the reviewer below noted. I paid a decent price at supergo, but for a while I thought I got it for free because they didnt charge my credit card for 3 weeks after I received it. Oh well, its still a great saddle and well worth the money, although I wouldnt ever pay retail for this or anything for that matter.

Purchased At:H&S Bikes, Bonn
Strengths:very light with manganese tubing, full cut (hole) design works very well (relieves pressure very effectively), good build quality (as usual with Selle Italia)
Weaknesses:not suited for off-raod riding, when you're sitting relatively still it's very good, but when shifting your weight around or pushing hard while seated there is too much movement in the frame, this can result is a creaking sound which get on your nerves after a while. I only rode the MAX saddle I bought so I don't know if this is a common problem.
Similar Products Used:San Marco Rolls Titanio, Flite, Concept, Vetta SL, Flite Gel Flow (also a Trans Am model)
Bike Setup:Focus Fire Edge, stock except WCS tires and DT Onyx/618 wheels
Bottom Line:I recommend this seat for road use only. For an MTB the construction is too loose. I sold my MAX Trans Am after three months and bought a Flite Gel Flow instead. I am much more satisfied with it on my MTB. The full-cut hole in the seat works very well on both models and is a must for people with problems in that area. I gave it 4 chilis for value because of the creaking sounds and 5 chilis overall because it is unsurpassed as a road saddle.

It began to get a bit to stiff on those long 3-4 hour rides. It recently broke when I came over the handle bars, I was a bit disapointed. I recently picked up a Specialized saddle with aluminum rails and the prostate friendly design (I was a bit strapped for cash when my saddle broke and the Specialized was $40 on sale for $20). It is way more comfortable than my fine italian friend was and seems to not weigh much more. I am not a gram counting type of guy but I do like my rig light. Weaknesses:when climbing you have to change the riding position to forward. but this f***** saddle does not allow any movment.also to wide rear end, when descenting over obstacles I constantly hit the saddle with my inner leg side. imposible to overcome it. way too expensive. false design for mtb.

Bottom Line:this sit suck. it gave me a sore but after 45mins. i thought it would break in, but it didn't. from the begining the only problem was, it beeing to hard. And after couple of months, instead of leather breaking in, the whole sit became more elastic. so when i sit at the back end of the sit, I kinda slip in the sit center, because whole sit curves. lifting the front end up does not help either. so when climbing or not it always puts me in the sit center and the pain there in between is even bigger than on my old XO. I hate this sit. I think all is that in-bulit elastomers fault. Because of them sit bents. Sold this crap to a friend (a roadie), he likes it better. I got myself an XO trans am (low quality rubber sit) and it works much better then this alien-titanium-expensive sit. Iz might work for some, but I strongly recomend test it first for a longer period. Not a day or two (at the shop). But a month or two (from a dissapointed mtbiker). four chillies for good lookin (like it matters...) and none for design, none for performance. owerall I would give it zero if I could. mtbikers don't buy, i think it's better to put a piece of wood with a hole in the middle on your bike. it feels practicaly the same. And for those who like this sit - I hope you know how lucky you are.

Bottom Line:After making the switch, my butt fell in love with this saddle. It provides the right amount of firmness and support for those long rides in the saddle. Those seeking a gel-like, cushy saddle should look elsewhere. Plus, it didn't angle stange like the Specialized BG, which eventually lead to lower back pain. Its design even lets you easily clear it to transfer your weight back down those technical descents. My only problem came when I crashed in a technical section and one of my seat rails bent when my bike fell to one side on the ground. Eventually, it snapped, and I discovered its hollow-rail construction. Something to take note of if you ride a lot of demanding technical terrain. Otherwise, you'll be out $55.00 to $100. All in all, a great saddle.

Bottom Line:If you use the full length of a seat for control while climbing and descending, the nose of this seat is going to punish your soft spot. The seat seems extemely comfortable while I'm riding but the result of a couple months of regular use of this saddle is that I now have to go to my physician to have him poke around in my rear end to see why I'm having trouble peeing. Of course I am 55 years old and I probably shouldn't be riding mountain bikes cross country 30 or 40 miles a week but I think the hardness of the nose of this saddle is part of the problem.

Bottom Line:Bought in March 2001. The saddle performed as a saddle should-without much notice to itself. It's there, it works, not much fatigue after those early season butt break-in days are done, and you don't have to think about the saddle at all.
I snapped a seat rail 1/4" behind the post mounting cradle last week, after 6 months of XC use. I contacted ProNet, the US distributor for Selle Italia. At ProNet's recommendation, I sent the seat back in to them for inspection. They emailed me stating that there's no material defect, and that a new rail is $15 installed.
I was riding along an easy doubletrack climb when the rail snapped. If it wasn't a material defect, and I didn't abuse the part, what's at fault here??
They claim it's a problem caused by the seat post mounting cradle being too sharp, causing stress fractures in the rail. I'm disappointed that a new saddle in March didn't last me a full riding season. ProNet is very responsive, however, and have emailed me promptly with the repair offer. In fact, they answered the phone when I called after returning from the late evening ride, irate & with a snapped seat rail. So, this first time I'll pay the $15 for rail, value is 4 since they've good customer service and paid a fair price for it when new. Since I have had to go without my <1 year old saddle for a couple of weeks to fix something I didn't try to break & have to pay for, overall rating is 3.

I weight about 170lbs and after 3/4 of a season the rails have bent such that there is no space between the saddle and the top of my seat post. Bottom Line:All saddle reviews should be taken with a grain of salt - everybody is different with their own preferences on seats. I ride a hardtail and for my 160-pound frame and butt, the Max Trans Am has been the most comfortable saddle I've used for extended off-road ventures. The cutaway is something I dont notice while I'm riding, but I certainly notice the difference every time I ride my road bike with no cutaway. I am considering switching my road saddle to the new Trans Am ProLink because I haven't felt sore since I've switched to the Trans Am. What's most important is that you don't trust saddle reviews - trust your own butt. Go to your local bike shop, try a few there, and ask to demo the one you like best - most shops will allow this. For me this saddle works great!

Seeing a review here on the Selle Italia Prolink saddle I wanted to add my review. I rode the saddle since January of this year. It took about 200 miles to break in and then it worked well for rides up to 70 miles. I had to adjust the seat quite a bit and that flaked off some of the composite coating on the rails. I did like the saddle and had planned on riding it all season but the major down fall was the nose design of the saddle. Unlike the Flite saddle design which is flat along the top of the saddle to the nose the Prolink dips down a bit in the rear just before the back of the saddle and rises up in the middle of the nose of the saddle. While this design might work for others I found it numbing my perineal area and causing it pain when the numbness goes away. Just try before you buy if possible.

After riding about 2 years with my old flite, I decided to look at their new products (the site in Italy). Only found it for sale one place even on the net, but it's worth every penny. The anatomical split keeps me from having any "problems" and the prolink feature actually lets the saddle flex with my movements which is amazing to me. After a 2 hour ride in the wood where I intentionally sat down as much as possible to see if it would work, my tush felt as good as if I'd just sat in my favorite recliner and watched a movie. Wow! If you've got the cash and are looking for the ultimate in comfort (and super cool looks to boot) get this one.

Bottom Line:Of the seats I've had or ridden on, this is the first that when I get off the bike I can't tell I've been sitting. I haven't used it on any long rides but on short ones there is no discomfort and when I get off the seat it doesn't feel like I've had a 2x4 mashed between my legs. The seat that came with my bike wasn't the worst I've used but it is far from being as good as this seat. I'm 6' and had a 32" waist before putting on a few pounds. Now it is 34". The seat doesn't appear too wide for my frame. Others have said they prefer the non-Max seat because it is narrower. After rides I don't notice sore sit bones but can tell they are a little sore when I mash on them. That just verifies to me the seat is working. Before I ordered the seat, I read all the reviews and some really liked while others had problems. I was pleasantly surprised after riding on it. Other competing seats I haven't tried may work just as well but having found no faults in this one I give it a 5 all around.

Bottom Line:Racing seats are light and HARD. Anything in life that is performance is hard. If you complain its hard you are correct. But if you say its hard for a racing seat- your just silly. This is the most comfortable RACING seat I've come across. I dont have the Max, I have the standard TransAm, but I also have a little booty. If you have a big booty go for the max. I used the standard flite which was basically the same thing except for the cutaway. I loved that seat, however I train on rollers, and you can't move around or stand up as you would on the road. The result was loss of circulation. So I tried the TransAm and although it feels the same as the standard flite, I did not have the circulation/numbness problem. I love the leather, and just like most Selle Italia seats, it just reaks of quality. Please note the cutaway is in the center of the seat. If you sit way back or way forward on the saddle, this one won't help. (There are other models which will work better for you.) If you want light weight, quality, value, awesome looks, and comfort(for racing) this is your choice. Please note that the secret to comfort is the chamois of your riding shorts. Spend the big money on these. I highly recomend Performance magazines "Performance Elite Shorts". They are a $65 but you could comfortably sit on a beer can all day.

Bottom Line:I actually have the Flite Trans Am, not the wider (and heavier) MAX Flite Trans Am. This is absolutely the best saddle I've ever tried -- by a wide lead. It's now easy for me to understand why Flites are so highly regarded far and wide. Of course, saddle fit is so highly subjective, but I have no qualms about recommending this one. It's pretty firm and stiff initially, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I think it's ironic that, after all of the hysteria a couple of years ago about saddle-induced nerve and tissue injury (which turned about to largely be BS), saddle design and rider comfort actually benefitted. Regardless of its orignal intended benefits, the cutout in the saddle actually does make for a better-fitting saddle, and a better ride.
I lucked out and caught this saddle on sale from SuperGo, but I wouldn't hesitate to pay twice as much for if I had to.

The look of it is sleek & classy, with a subtle woven Selle logo & graphics. Finally, someone came out with a saddle for women that isn’t a tractor seat or designed by the Marquee DeSod. I can't say anything negative about it. Ok, so it weighs about 280 grams. It is about 20-35 grams heavier compared to some of the others. Not a concern when factoring in comfort. If the few extra grams is a bother to you, then you can make up the difference with a light & stiff, Thompson SP or a Carbon Post. The men's version is just as nice, and I believe a tad lighter. Guys, if you have female friends or a wife that mountain bikes, and is seeking a comfortable, yet lightweight saddle; this is it! Bottom Line:Its all about relief. As a long time rider, its a bit of anathema to ride this sort of saddle but when you got the boil/sores, what choice do you have? At least today, there's a solution. Bottom line is that it works and relieves the pressure. QC in the saddle is not what I've experienced with SI but compared to the US, the price I paid which includes 17.5% VAT, is cheap.

Trust me. I don't give 5 and 5 to many products. If I paid US list, the value rating would be lower. Overall rating remains unchanged as there's a lot of nerve endings down there.

Bottom Line:Note: This review is actually for the Selle Italia Flite Ti Trans Am (not the Max)

I was really afraid this saddle was going to be a pain in my ass. But the instant I hopped on the bike after putting it on, I knew I was in love. It's just impressive how such a small hunk of material can support you so well.

I had to debate whether or not I should get the Max version that had more padding or just settle with the smaller version. I decided that since my bike is FS, I didn't really need more padding and the extra high manganese rails.

My only gripe is the super smooth leather it has. I was so used to riding on the Bontrager and it just has a nice "sticky" feeling to it. It's kind of strange sliding all over the place. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Everyone's ass is different. Some people love these saddles, some don't. But whether you choose the Max or the non-Max version, you can't go wrong. I highly recommend these saddles.

I got both the Spec BG Comp and the Flight at the same time and tried them back to back. There was NO comparison! The Flight was exactly the right shape for me (6'3", 200lb). It feels very firm initially, but after riding for a while, it still only feels firm (not hard). The Spec BG Comp saddle felt softer initially, but after a while, it was a pain in the ___! This is the one for longer rides. I sent the Spec saddle back!

If you've got a "problem" or simply want to avoid getting one, this is definitely one to consider.

THe SDG saddles were very good, but about 1 hour into a ride, numbness would set in. The regular flite is nice for road riding, but anyone who uses it off road is nuts, or won't have nuts, however you want to look at it. But this saddle it very impressive. I always wanted it but didn't want to shell out the $85 it was selling for. As soon as I saw it on sale I jumped at the opportunity. I actually ordered several other saddles to compare. THere was no comparison. As soon as I sat on this saddle its feel was like no other. It supports enough of the sit bones and completely relieves pressure from the perennial nerve. Its like your nuts are floating on air. THe liberator had a similar feel but its shape was not good for performance and its weight was outrageous. Weaknesses:I would have to say that it is uncomfortable at first. It will take a little while to break in. You have to remember I have been on a gel saddle for 4 years now and switching back to a harder saddle will take a little time getting used to. But other than that the saddle is great.

As some of the other reviewers noted, the saddle felt kinda stiff at first and I wasn't sure it would work for me. But it gets more comfortable every time I ride on it, and after about 120 miles of riding it feels great. Have experienced very few problems with numbness, none since I got the angle adjusted right. Bottom Line:Ectually this report is about the normal Flite Titanium in Trans Am version. I tought it best to put it here as it is the only review on Trans Ams. Anyway, this thing is bloody expensive. But well worth it.
I like the looks of the droopy nose, that makes it very distinctive, but I don't like the low look of the saddle because the rails are so close to the padding. My old Fizik looked better with its high frame. That low frame makes for hard fitting too.
The Fizik was very nice already, especially off road, but since I do roadriding too with my MTB fitted with 1.5 road tyres fitted, the seat needs to perform there too. I still kept getting painful and numb genitals with that on long distances in the seat, even off road. So I went to look for something even better. Reading and hearing good things about Trans Am Flites I decided I wanted to try that. I felt the pressure build up that caused my pain was in the place where a Trans Am has a hole, so it seemed like a good idea. And it was a good idea. I went for a 55 kilometre road ride straight away and that was my first time thatI rode without any pain. I felt some starting numbness sometimes but 5 to 10 seconds out of the saddle cured that. Only had to do that about 7 times or so. This is absolutely good.
A Flite is indeed pretty hard form new. I tested it for position in Jeans since it was pretty cold outside and usually a hard saddle is pretty bareble in jeans. This one felt so hard. The moment I sat down in Lycra shorts everything was OK to my surprise. You keep feeling the saddle, but it never starts to hurt. Nor did the private parts. Very good if you have problems with saddle related aches.

Bottom Line:I had intitial problems with comfort on this seat, but I would chalk those up to break-in and positioning. There is clearly a need to break-in the padding on this seat. Once accomplished, position becomes critical. I took what amounted to a long road ride and found that I needed to adjust fore/aft and height, then angle. Now it's dialed and very comfortable. I don't know if it's available in other colors, but mine has silver edges with orange markings. I think it looks gross, but it gets the job done. I would realisitcally, objectively rate it a solid 4/4, but these poor reviews of 1/1 require a higher rating from me.

Bottom Line:I bought this seat after reading other people's reviews here on MTBReview.com. When I originally boought my 'lugi I installed a Raceday Gel seat, which was fine for a year or so. Lately, the Raceday has gotten much less comfortable and began to produce some pain and numbness on long rides. I believe that the gel has hardened over time. I decided that a seat with a cutout or groove would probably work better than one with a gel insert and looked at reviews of Specialized Body Geometry and Selle Transalp seats. I wasn't really put off by some Transalp users comments about the saddle being hard, as I generally like a hard seat. After buying the Transalp I spent about a week adjusting the angle and once I got it dialed in, the seat was very comfortable. For me a slightly downward angle on the horn seems best. This is probably NOT true for everybody, you need to experiment a bit. Finally, the saddle does soften up a bit, but it takes a few hundred miles of riding to do so. Bottom line: The saddle eliminated my problem with numbness and has allowed me to enjoy my long rides.

Bottom Line:There's nothing like a Flite, which for me is the perfect shape for a saddle. It's very cool that SI have taken that shape and produced various fairly subtle variations that address specific needs without compromising the fundamental Flite functionality.

The "Max" refers to the addition of a very subtle suspension element to the rail attachments. Just enough to soften the ride a touch, very nice. "Trans Am" is how they refer to their cutaway-center feature, which I personally find very comfortable and effective in eliminating numbness that the Specialized did not. (I have a Flite Gel on my rain bike that is nearly as effective in this regard.)

The Flite series is primo stuff.

I also feel the nose digging into me in places I'd like left alone.

I've tried angling the nose down a tad for relief (as most triathletes can do with their time trial bike's saddles), but found that only exaggerated the problem. I found that a completed horizontal position works best for me!

I don't think I've completely broken in this saddle (I've got several bikes I spend time on), but my initial recommendation would be an outstanding 4 chilis. I'll write back in a few months after I hit a few K on my odometer.

ps. I like the orange graphics and stitching (but then it goes with the orange in my HED tri-spoke race wheels)

Bottom Line:I have 2200 miles on the Ti rail Selle Flight Trans Am. It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat in/on. I had "numb nuts" problems, but since I switched to this saddle, no more problems. I picked mine up for 89 smackers at bikeworld.com, expensive for a saddle but worth every penney. The ti rails help absorb some of the smaller road chatter.

Strengths:this saddle is built well, great design, light, leather, and just one bad ass looking seat.
Weaknesses:a little pricy for the average consumer
Similar Products Used:flite w/ ti rails
Bike Setup:capt. america
Bottom Line:this seat will not be comfortable to you if you go out riding in a pair of jeans...getting a decent pair of riding shorts is just as important as using a seat like this. so before all the guys start giving this seat negative chillies because they ride in jeans or cargo pants, u should invest in a pair of riding shorts. i love the saddle even tho it probably has a 200 mile break in period. tough, light and will keep your balls happy. =D

Bottom Line:I thought that the saddle would be comfortable after all that I read here, but it was disappointing. It never seemed to brake in. Maybe it was my large ass and the fact I weigh 225 but the saddle never felt as comfortable as my Cineli Vision which is somewhat like a standard saddle with a little padding that creates a gap for your crack. I think there was just too little saddle for my size. I would not recomend this saddle without a good return policy you may want to return it.

Bike Setup:Cannondale Mtn. bike & Gunnar Cross Hairs cyclocross
Bottom Line:The Max Flite Trans Am saddle is a very comfortable high performance saddle. The center cut out eliminates numbness and protects your main vein on long rides. The sit bone area is well padded and the rails flex slightly to absorb shock. This saddle has enough cush for me to eliminate the need for a suspension seatpost. Great design and the '00 all black leather looks better than the '99 model.

TO $$$$ FOR A SADDLE, BUT WELL PAID IF SEEN IN THE LONG TERM (NUTS WILL STAY ALIVE)
THE IDEAL BUYER SHOULD BE LONG DISTANCE RIDERS THAT ARE CONSCIOUS OF THE DANGER THAT MEANS THE NUMBNESS (SHORTAGE IN ARTERIAL SUPPLY TO THE AREA).

Strengths:Ti rails, narrow for having a cut out, somewhat comfortable
Weaknesses:Cut out is too narrow, price
Similar Products Used:Selle Italia Flite, Koobi
Bike Setup:Cannondale, Full Ultegra, Speinergy, Trans Am
Bottom Line:I use the Trans Am on my road bike and it's a good saddle. I tried using the Flite, but unfortunately it gave me numb nuts. The Trans Am is a bit less comfortable than the Flite, but I will take a sore butt over numb nuts any day. The cut out seems to be a bit too narrow, which kind of defeats its purpose. I occasionally get the numbness on this saddle, but it just takes longer to happen now. Now I can enjoy those longer rides without really worrying about the same problems. For my mt.bike I use the Koobi which is more comfortable than the trans Am. Koobi totally takes care of the numbness problem, but way too uncomfortable for rad bikes. Anyway, I recommend the Trans Am to anyone who is feeling numbness and looking for an alternative.

Bottom Line:After 300+ miles I must say this seat sucks. The plain leather Selle Flite is the best I've ever had but the transam falls way short. The only reason I tried the transam is because it came with my new bike, and I'm swithcing back to my old Selle flite seat tomorrow. I used the transam on a 31 mile ride three days ago and I was sore after 8 miles. As far as saddles go, it doesn't pay to compromise, and the Selle flite is better than any others I've tried. I ride 24 hour solo races, and I'd refuse to race before I'd use the transam. I see a lot of riders using various types of saddles with cutouts, and I think they're entirely overrated. Be smart, get a Selle Flite, it's cheaper and better.

Strengths:no numbness, the saddle softness feel perfect to me
Weaknesses:A little on the heavy side otherwise I have no gripes
Similar Products Used:Terry Fly, WTB SST
Bike Setup:Turner O2, Cross country set up
Bottom Line:I've read most of the reviews on this seat. I am one of those who like it. I have only used it on one 15 mile ride climbing the mountains of the Wasatch Front over bone jarring rocks and stumps. It performed flawlessly for me. I had absolutely no numbness during the whole ride which is a first. The same rides using my previous saddles caused me to go numb withing the first 5-30 minutes. I dont' know why some have complained of this saddle being too hard. It feels perfect to me. My last saddle WTB SST was hard especially on long rides and I would go numb within the first one half hour. I tried the Terry Fly and I was numb within the first five minutes. Waaaaaaay too soft. I just sucked up into your krotch and felt ten times worse than any other seat I have tried. I knew it within one minute of riding it on the same trail I tested the Sella on. I couldn't wait to get off. I sent that sucker back.

For me, this seat did exactly what it was designed to do and felt very comfortable. I don't have to ride on a saddle more than one ride to know if it is going to work for me. This seat happens to adapt well to my anatomy. I like it. It's a keeper.

Bottom Line:It only took 3 rides to decide this saddle is not for me. I compare it to sitting on 2 razor blades. The center cut out section and has sharp edges that really cut into my bottom. Instead of 1 blister now I have two. I creates more pressure than it relieves.

If I could give this a zero rating I would.
