    locking frok
Weaknesses:cable set up for derailers and brakes
    Similar Products Used:cannondale scalpel
Bike Setup:carbon rizer bar and platform pedals panaracer firexc
Bottom Line:for the dollar amount this is an increadable bike. i did pick this up off ebay for a steal and was looking for used racer to take me from road racing to off road events without breaking the bank to see if I would even like it. Well I love it and this bike is to blame.
there are definatly better bikes out there but even at $1000-1300ish you would be hard pressed to find a better value in terms of frame and component quality, now if they could just route the cables better i woulda given it a 4 on the overall

    Strengths:I have the 2007 model
    light frame + good components
    Weaknesses:maybe the frame
    Similar Products Used:diamond back topanga
    Bike Setup:stock = avid v-brakes + tora fork 302 + xt & deore derailleurs + deore shifters
Bottom Line:I use the bicycle to do serious climbing on the weekends...grades 10% and greater...on fire-access type roads. Downhills are either on the same fire-access type roads or via single track through the forest.

I find the rear tire only slips when my body placement is off, even when I'm in loose soil.

The RockShox Tora 302 fork works great for me (165lbs). I notice that it can really take the hits when screaming downhill without shocking your body.

I think the AL 7005 frame is stiff enough and does not cause you to loose power (like I’ve read in other reviews). However, the frame walls might be too thin. I have already put a very big dent in my top tube (the bike tipped over on to a large rock after I had fallen off). No problems...it only hurts to look at ! I would have gone with a bicycle with a heavier frame.

No problems with the brakes, they are working great (even downhill when its muddy).

I have some noise in the front derailleur, but I intend to have that fixed.

Strengths:- Racing geometry is spot on
    - Tires

    - Front fork is GARBAGE

Bottom Line:The geometry of this bike is what I've been looking for. Frame is solid (works fine for me). I would've liked to see Scott pony up and offer a decent fork and disc brakes.

However it is by far the best ride I've had and I beat it up pretty good chasing moose and bears.

    Strengths:-it is light weight..
    -good looks(frame color and decals)..
-the tires grip very well on both dirt and street..
    -fork has a lock-out feature..
-rear derailuer is low normal that is great..
    -avid v-brake that is awesome..
Weaknesses:-the design of the cable running...
-durability or strenght of the frame...
-frame that is not stiff(soft feeling)..
    -thin saddle..
-rims that are a bit weak(always need tuning)..
    -grips..
    -bottom bracket..
Similar Products Used:KHS Alite 2000,2006 Kona Stinky,2005 Merida Trans-Mission Comp..
Bike Setup:All stock except pedals changed to shimano clipless, san marco saddle, grips and modified gearing system cable..
Bottom Line:This bike is great for trail, street and dirt jumping..The gearing system is great except for the cable routes,it's jointed to the head tube(like road bike) makes it not so smooth shifting..
I'm very dissapointed with durability of the frame coz it dents easily..Scott manufacturer makes the thickness of the frame thin to make the bike lighter..The frame also have a soft feeling, therefore when you pedals,it consume more energy from you..They also cut-cost a lot by using their products as component such as Handlebar,Stem,Grips,Saddle,Seatpost,Seat Clamp,Front Hub and Tyres...Overall the bike is good for normal cycling, but if you want perfomance and durability from this bike, better don't..Get other brand, seriously!!

    Price Paid: $1200.00
    Purchased At:local shop
Strengths:light, good looks, disc hubs, low-normal rear derailleur, lock-out fork, avid fr5 brakes, shimano drivetrain
Weaknesses:fork springs too stiff, no rebound on fork, saddle is hard, pedals offer no grip, square bottom bracket
Similar Products Used:gt avalanche, mongoose rockadile
Bike Setup:octalink b.b., deore crankset, marathon xc fork, selle gel saddle, u.s.e suspension seatpost, eggbeater pedals
Bottom Line:this being the first year scott offers bikes in the states... i see few who have one or have heard of scott. this bike looked fast sitting on the showroom floor and that combined with the shimano and avid components sold me. the yellow scott frame decals are an eye catcher. it is the bottom of the scale line but is far better than other manufacturers mid level bikes.
the shimano lx rear derailleur is the low normal type. it shifts opposite of normal derailleurs. this means you finger downshifts to low and your thumb shifts into high. while climbing, this feature works great, dropping to lower gears with ease, fast.
one big problem with this bike is the fork! it has a lockout, which is great for climbing, but that's all it has. a knob on the left crown controls preload, but even with it tuned to least amount of preload the fork was too stiff for my weight; "160lbs". and without a rebound adjustment the fork pogos you up after clearing a root or rock. changing to a fork with rebound adj and a softer spring rate will make a more enjoyable and easier ride.
this is a "race" bike... ok, the saddle is far from comfy, and that's common on race bikes. it's a hard plastic shell wrapped in vinyl. but even with that thin construction it's heavy. a gel saddle with more rear support is a must for trail use. and it may be lighter than the stock one.
the shimano hollowtech crankset is light and strong but does not use a splined bottom bracket. and the square bottom bracket that comes on the scale 60 uses a plastic cup on the left side. any shop will tell you the pros of a splined bottom bracket. at least change the stock b.b. to one with an all metal construction.
if you are a serious cyclist you will not like the pedals that come on this bike. no matter what type of shoe you wear they will slip off. simple fix... change'em; to a more aggressive platform pedal with toeclips or clipless pedals.
i like that the scale 60 comes with rim brakes. i prefer rim brakes over disc. discs' are the rage but are heavier and harder to set up. the scale 50 is the same as the 60 but with disc brakes. if you wish add disc to your 60 the hubs are disc ready.
dont get me wrong this is a good bike, but to make it a great bike, a few key parts should be changed. the price i gave is what has been totaly invested. seems like a lot, but try to find a trek or specialized for $1200.00 that weighs 26.5lbs, has a light and highly tunable marzocchi fork, arguably the best suspension seatpost made and clipless pedals. you wont find one. if you are looking for a bike to make the jump from recreation to mid pro... give the scale 60 a look.

Bottom Line:this bike provides grat agility.those who need speed should go for it.i bought this bike not long go,and i find it's performance pretty good except for some of its stock parts!the fork is a bit sitff, however you could still feel a little difference when you switch its lockout mode.
the weight of this bike is unacceptable to me.it should cut down a few kilograms.since its for racing, the comfort is already there.
the only thing is it should be made lighter and more comfortable.should scott consider trying to tune its new scale and reflex models of 2006 to genius mc,rc quality with at least a rear rock shox suspension.

    Strengths:-light weight
    -good looks(frame color and decals)
-scott components...(bar, stem, seatpost, tires, grips, ect)...look great and are light
-the tires grip very well on both dirt and street
    -fork has a lock-out feature
    -rear derailuer is low normal
Weaknesses:-except for the lock-out the fork sux
    -stock pedals offer no grip
Similar Products Used:a bit of everything; to many to list
Bike Setup:100% stock, but not for long!
Bottom Line:my intention was to get a bike that i could use on the street as well as the trails and not have to upgrade. i thought this was it but the axel fork is far from smooth.
for a "race bike", as scott groups it, with a msrp of $900+ dollars it should come with a much better fork. the lock-out is nice but thats all the stock fork has to offer. the springs are too stiff for my weight "160lbs" even with the preload adjusted all the way out. a lighter xc fork with an air spring would be nice; even without the lock-out it should at least have a rebound adjustment.
this is my first experience with a new low normal derailuer. it works great! why hasn't any one thought of this before. it didn't take long to get used to and makes climbing easier.
if you are looking for a cross country race bike for around a grand then this one should be concidered. if you are lucky enough to pick on up for what i did, use the savings towards a better fork and pedals and this thing will be perfect.
