RST forks, SCOTT coil-over rear unit. Front-mech cable is routed under the bottom-bracket, and therefore clogs up as soon as it gets muddy. | | Bike Setup: | Rockshox 2000 SID XC, Rockshox DELUXE 99, Shimano LX, MAVIC D521 rims, TIOGA Factory muds (XC) or MICHALIN DH Comp 16 (DH), CLUB ROOST bars & stem, uprated rear spring. | | Bottom Line: | Firstly I am a big bloke (6'0", 16st), and my Octane has stood up to all sorts of punishment. I mainly do singletrack, and conventional XC, but I also use it for DH expoits. I find it works better with a stiffer spring at the back, and the SIDs on 80mm travel. It climbs well in this spec with hardly any bob. For twisty trails I change the standard stem for a short CLUB ROOST part. I love my bike, it has ressurrected my interest in mountain-biking and I recommend it highly for begineers, new full-sussers, but not for full time DH riders, who would need more travel! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I like the bike as a whole, it handles pretty well and sits nicely into corners,but the travel (or lack of) is a bit of a pain in the arse.Well, it is when going along rockyish trails and jumpoing and generally pissing around, but at least when you're on the road or on flatter ground you haven't got 8 inches of bouncyness to piss you off. Just upgrade the forks, rear shock and rims if you want to do hard riding. Good for downhill and cross country. An alright racing racing bike if you upgrade the components. I've broken it once at the head of the frame,and I've seen them brake where the swing arm clamps around the pivot bearings | | Bike Setup: | X vert T forks, XT drive, shockworks rear,Mavics etc | | Bottom Line: | not a bad frame I'm currently under going mods to the rear suspention to get more travel This will become my training bike as it is not a good frame for racing .There is some bobbing under climb Suspention mods may help reduce this.The original forks (RST)& rear shock were crap and replaced before anything else.Expensive here in New Zealand when compared with KHS and Specialised | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

The FX 2.5 comes with Hi5 front forks(dump them )and change to Judy XLC triples (which can be ordered in matching DK blue)as they work really well and do not go OFF/SOFT on a long ride.Mich-wildgriper ss tyres work very well.Bike comes with LX group set.and smooth AC-9 rear shock(which is fully adjustable) | | Bottom Line: | Realy great bike,finished in blue white and grey,SCOTT do not have it in any brouchers which is a reall shame.(missed sales you guys)I Had being useing a saracen ridged for years, thinking full- sus was for rich play boys, i was wrong !.
