Submitted by Greg a Cross-Country Rider from Huntsville, Ontario, Canada
Date Reviewed: July 7, 1999
Duration Product Used:
more than 3 years
Strengths:
The bike is light, in fact, i think its almost as light as a 98 FSR Comp.
The cool embroyderd seat
The curved 'seat stays'
Weaknesses:
Lets see..
The Shity rims that make squeaky noises
The extremly crappy Acera brakes and Alivio levers
The fact the the frame is a 19 (schwinn size) when it should be a 18 (trek size)
Forks could be better
The wear on the drivetrain after 3 years
Similar Products Used:
Pretty much every other bike iv ever rode
Bike Setup:
Stock, except for 99 XT brakes and LX levers, and 97 rapid fire shifters (i hate grip shift)
Bottom Line:This has been my bike for the past 3 years, and its never been seriously broken or screwed. Just today, i got it back from the shop in town and they said that due to me riding it, the drivetrain is wearing out. The chain is stretched, my deraileur is loose and my bottom bracket has play in it. If i was going to ride it for another year, i'd replace some stuff, but since the 19 (18) frame is getting to the point that my seat post is way to friggen high. Since i bought the bike, the brakes have squeaked. I have been told that its my rims, and its true. Besides the wear on the drivetrain, nothing else has happened that isnt normal. The bike was a good one, and judjing by the reviews, the 99 moab 3 is suppost to be good.4 Flaming chilis only because of the brakes
Overall Rating:4
