Favorite Trail:Soquel Demonstration Forest
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $650.00
Purchased At:Costco
Strengths:Extremely light set-up. All XT with XTR rear der. Great for stiff XC ride. Great Fizik saddle. The frame is black and anodized for durability.
Weaknesses:Horrible pedals (Scott), needed to also swap out grips (Schwinn), and tires (use MotoRaptor 2.4).
Similar Products Used:GT Zaskar.
Bike Setup:All original parts except those mentioned above that were swapped out.
Bottom Line:Great buy from Costco when they were selling these. Can't beat it. I will have this bike forever, even when I add a full-suspension ride.

Price Paid: $2000.00
Strengths:light, black color, last good schwinn frame
Weaknesses:original tires, not too fond of michelin
Similar Products Used:some
Bike Setup:stock+crossmax
Bottom Line:if you can find one that is not too beat up, get it. schwinn will not give you a lifetime warranty but is supposed to give warranties for homegrowns for five years. About the life of any aluminum frame.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1149.00
Purchased At:SuperGo.com
Strengths:Extremely LIGHT! 22 lbs. (15") and climbs like a goat. Frame is 2.9 lbs. Excellent Shimano components (XTR, XT), Manitou Super Mars shock w/damping and lockout. The XT shifters are so smooth. Made in the USA.
Weaknesses:Comes with no pedals. But then again, if it did, I'd probably have to pay more. The Fi:zi'k Dolomiti Ti seat is okay, but could be better.
Bottom Line:I love this bike. Quality, Value, and Weight were the main factors for buying this bike. No matter what price you pay for this bike, the bike has great components, and stands above the majority of mountain bikes on the market. Schwinn has always been known for QUALITY, so I don't know anyone who should not consider owning one.

Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT, best components package for the price. Best hardtail for the price. ALL XT and XTR parts. Frame only weighs 2.9 lbs. Great color combo. 22lbs overall weight out of box. And did I say light?
Weaknesses:TITEC SUCKS!!!! Loosened twice on the first ride, but Titec is quick to send another seatpost clamp!! Tires are very light, but NO TRACTION.
Similar Products Used:Nothing this nice
Bike Setup:Threw on some weight with the Psylo SL and some REAL tires, the GEAX BLADES. Got a Thompson seatpost. Even with this stuff added bike only weighs 23.5 pounds
Bottom Line:I have searched High and low and when I saw that Schwinn was going out of business and noticed that these were priced at $1150 on supergo, I had to get one. Where can you get that drivetrain like this AND a bike for @$1000??? Plus frame only weighs 2.9 lbs. I will live with a crappy seatpost. Everything has to have one flaw. Replaced with a Thompson and this bike is AWESOME!!! When you pick this bike up you will want to put it on a scale!!! I wouldnt sell this bike for $1500!!!

Favorite Trail:saratoga gap
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $699.00
Purchased At:Costco baby!
Strengths:Sweet 2.9 lb frame....sick looks when stickers are peeled off...solid components..."flickable" geometry
Weaknesses:ICBM---Manitou Mars....I prefer the SID
Similar Products Used:Specialized M4...Santa Cruz Chameleon...Fisher Supercal
Bike Setup:Stock except for Oury grips and Crank Bros Eggbeaters
Bottom Line:I hate to upset all the dudes who paid retail or even Supergo price...but 700 BUCKS for this bike is a redorkulous deal...needless to say the bike is capable and will not limit riding ability---if only schwinn had gone with traditional headset design so i could stick a king in there...ICBM and Manitou setup feels much less solid than king and SID....nevertheless...i cant complain with a sub 22 lb bike for 700 bones----if youre lucky enough to find one of these beauties at costco...be very careful to check all components (every bolt is loose and none are greased) as the dudes who build them at costco apparently have no clue what theyre doing---if you dont either...take it to your LBS and have them tune it----best value for a serious hardtail on the market---PURCHASE!!

Favorite Trail:Hummingbird
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1240.00
Purchased At:Supergo
Strengths:Light weight, awesome components, matte black anodized finish, exceptional handling, climbs climbs climbs
Weaknesses:Wheelset, tires and seatpost
Similar Products Used:Raleigh M600
Bike Setup:homegrown full xt, 517's with xt hubs, Panaracer FireXCpro tires.
Bottom Line:Awesome, awesome bike. Bike climbs and climbs for days without any problems. Not only does it climb easily, but it comes down even easier with precise handling and b*tchin frame geometry (perfect). I purchased this bike because it was light, full xt, Manitou Mars Super with lockout and the price was 50 right (thanks Schwinn). The front fork is a work of art, super smooth and soaks up all the bumps and drops. Stock wheelset SUCKS. Tioga rims have black finish on the braking surface which eventually wore off and braking was highly inefficient. I had to squeeze the lever hard as possible just to get the bike to slow down. Freewheel hub was extremely smooth, but noisey as all hell. Michellin WildGrippers are total crap. I might as well be riding slicks downhill. Tires slipped constantly on corners and rocks - zero traction. Seatpost clamp broke after three months but Titec knows there was a problem with the design and are sending me a new clamp (cool people). Other than that, this is the baddest bike there is.

Date Reviewed: October 2, 2001
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1149.00
Purchased At:Supergo
Strengths:After meticulous comparison part to part...this bike has the best components for the buck, bar none. Component selection is well balanced without any weak links. Great color...solid black. Stickers come off easy for those who prefer to BE fast rather than look fast. The anodized finish holds well. It's great to be back on a Schwinn.
Weaknesses:None so far. I consider the flaky decals a huge plus.
Similar Products Used:Compares to Stumpjumper M4 Pro
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:After deciding to even consider a Schwinn, it was easy. For a 100 bucks more it's worth it to get the Factory over the Pro. Now when I look at what I didn't buy I'm very happy. I enjoy having a sedate looking, but absolutely killer, bike.
