The bike does it all...XC, a little bit DH...climbs great...it is a little heavy stock, but if you dont race, its not that big of a concern. Ive never had problems with the frame at all...only thing i do reccomend is ditch the rims...they are killer and dont like big rocks...trust me. Bottom Line:
this spring, i was riding, and blew a tire. i was extremely upset, until i realized that i had 1100 miles on the bike/tires. i broke a spoke about 4 days after that.
i have loved this bike. i don't ride too much offroad, but i've tried to break it, and it hasn't yet.
the handlebars are not quite swept enough for me, so my pink fingers go knumb, but new gloves, or a new set of hb's would work, i just flex them every so often to keep them feeling good.
The front derailer has been a little flighty. and the crank used to sound like it was popping, but it has gone away for the last 7 months.
I rode this bike all winter, and had no problems. it took my lack of attention, and just rolled with it.
As I mentioned, I was riding one night, and hit a fence post someone put in the bike path and i broke my wrist, and smacked my head, but the bike was fine. not even a warped rim.
it's probably not for the advanced rider, but anyone looking to start out should definately consider it.

Bottom Line:
I had an old Cannondale SM800, a 9 year old bike, that rode well but it was time to decide to sink more money in parts, or go new. I had just purchased the Rolf wheels, a great wheelset, and the LX V brakes a few months earlier for the bike. It was time to think about moving on to a new bike after adding up the costs of doing more upgrading, so I went to my local shop, Actionwheels, to test ride a new rig.
I tried a Cannondale F500 and the Moab 3. The C'dale had a bit of a problem keeping a straight line, the headshock fork was a bit too bouncy for my liking. The Moab 3 just jumped as soon as the pedal went down. Unlike the C'dale, the SX fork was true to a line and the bike felf very stable. I never thought I'd buy a Schwinn, but after some upgrades, the bike came in at 740.00 and it was hard to beat. This bike is a worthy hardtail and I'd be hard pressed to find one that could beat it for this cost. If you are new, or advanced, this is worthy bike to look at and buy.
I'd give it a value of 4 chilis because the crank in a piece of scrap metal that should be replaced.

This is the first serious mountain bike I have ever owned. My friends a the bike shop recommended it to me, and I test rode a few other brands. I liked the feel of this one, so I ordered one. A few days later a 21" green and white bike was delivered. I started by switching the strapped pedals to Time ATAC clipped ones. I also threw on a Moxey Pro suspension seat post. A few rides later I decided to put on a seat by Body Geometry. About a month later, I started stripping out one of the cranks. Being a large rider, I dropped a few bucks and purchased a crankset by Profile Racing. I also put on race face sprockets. The only time this bike has truely let me down was eighteen miles into a race where the rear hub broke on me. I replaced both wheels with Big Mammoth Fat rims on shimano LX hubs. There have been a lot of things I have replaced on this bike because I am a lot heavier then it was designed for. I also ride very hard on some very technical trails. I have recently ordered stiffer springs for my rock shox judy xc. All in all, if you are big, be prepared to replace a few things. If not, this is a great bike. Great value. Fun to ride, and it won't let you down. At the price, you can't beat it.

This would be my first "real" bike...I'd be ashamed now to talk about the s**t I used to ride.
Beautiful bike! The frame is outstanding, and if this is your first bike, I would definitely recommend it. Thanks to the Homegrown frame, anything is possible. So hey, if you don't have the huge chunk of change to drop on a more expensive bike, take your time and upgrade piece by piece. Now, save yourself some pain and LOSE THE PEDALS. Also, if you have any love for you a**, get a new seat. I get a little rough on it now and then, although I use it mostly to commute. With the Performance tires I can ride to work and still have the balls to cut cross country when I feel like it. All around, though, I would say that this bike is the s**t!

Bottom Line:
The moab is perfect for the person looking to enter the mountain biking scene and provides good quality at a budget price. The only reason i upgraded was because i eiether wrecked or out lived the parts life span. The psylo fork gives the bike a slacker feel at 125mm but when tuned to 90mm the bikes handles the exact way it should. This bike is a great all round performer and i reckomend it to anyone who can affored it but do be worned that if you do intened on going hard then be prepaired to pay the costs to upgrade.

This is a real good bike for someone who is thinking has biked some and wants to take it to the next level. All it will really need to become a real race bike is clippless pedals. Comes stock with a race seat.

Price and durability. It takes a beating.

Bike Setup:
Stock...for now. Soon I will get clipless pedals, possibly a lighter crank, and if I hit my head hard enough, a 3 lb fork.
Bottom Line:
As I've already said, this is my first real bike, but I ride the toughest trails I can find. I think I got a great deal, but I wish I had spent a little more moola to get a lighter set up. Judy XC takes the hits great, but it needs to go on a diet. The crank is a big, thick, chunk of metal, and it's only a 24 speed drivetrain. My advice: re-examine your willingness to fork out the big bucks. If you know you are going to stick with riding, and you want to ride hard, go ahead and spend enough money to get something lighter. If your sure that the weight is okay (which is something you should decide by comparison) and you don't know yet if mountain biking is your thing, this is a great bike to help you figure it out. I got it cheap because of the year end sales. Otherwise, I might have gotten something different.

Great frame, great front shock (Judy), nice components all around.
Weaknesses:
The plastic front derailer cover shatters, and should just be removed. The seat is like a rock, and should be replaced with a more ergo model. The ICBM (the integrated cup and Bearing module) needed to be replaced when it bent, but once replaced has worked fine ever since. The tires look nice (red-walled Velociraptor XTC) and they grip like magnets, but they easily get punctured by star thistle and sharp rocks.

Bottom Line:
It's far from the best bike money can buy, but its the most bike you can get for this amount of money. Rides very well. The Judy makes nasty trails into velvety carpets, and the frame has a solid feel. I'm 6'7" and weigh in at 235 pounds, and this thing takes all the abuse I can put it through, which can be considerable. It's a bit heavy on the uphill, but makes up for that with ruggedness down rutted trails. If I ever break this one, I'll buy another.

It did awesome...a lot better than my friend's $2,300 Cannondale Jekyll, especially on the climbs. It climbs real nice, especially after a few minor upgrades. It isn't heavy stock, but it can easily be made a lot lighter.

Nice handling bike with very good frame and fork. Nice tires, saddle, stem and seat too. Price. Good looks.
Weaknesses:
Some parts make the bike nearly unusable (that is you will be taking a serious risk of breakage or some problem far from home) on serious trails. Especially front chain ring protector, pedals, crank and front derailleur (all pure junk). Seat post is also too short (I'm 6'0' tall w/ 19in. frame).
Similar Products Used:
Variety of Trek and Specialized bikes in the price range.
Bike Setup:
Stock except for pedals (Ritchey WCS ti) and rear derailleur (XTR rapid rise).
Bottom Line:
I really like this bike except that I experienced some problems right from the start (w/in 100 miles). First off spend the bit extra now and get the Moab 1. The pedals have to be changed right away. The seat post is too short for alot of people. Crank is also heavy and weak. Brakes, shifters and levers are useable, not great. Judy XC is big reason to like it.
I experienced the same problem as others (on third ride) where the chain shifted past the big chainring, lodging between it and the plastic protector, which caused it to break the screw securing the protector. The screw hit the chain and wouldn't allow shifts to smallest ring and had to be hammered out of the rings (really a pain). The front derailleur is the worst; bad shifts and rubbing on chain despite adjustments.
Also on my first serious ride (w/ >100 miles) the derailleur hanger broke when I was climbing under load without warning. When I got to the base of Winter Park for what I thought would be a simple repair, no one had a spare part and they are not interchangeable with other brands. I wasted my day and $19.00 lift ticket. Further inspection also revealed that when the hanger sheared, it broke off a piece of the LX derailleur meaning it was scrap iron. While the main function of the hanger is to save the frame I don't think it should break the derailleur either.
My experience w/ Schwinn has been a joke. I left three messages for tech support and they won't call me back or answer their phones. When I tried to have my dealer ask them about covering the hanger or derailleur under warranty they refused, since the bike fell over once. Additionally, it appears that the rims and/or spokes a little weak as the rim needed truing after that short 6 mile ride.

Love the bike!
Weaknesses:
I dont know if it comes on every bike, but if yours comes with that plastic ring mounted outside the third (big) chainring, take that sucker off immediately! I think it is there to keep the derailleur from pushing the chain off the large ring during the break in period, I dont know. What I do know is, It will break on the first log or rock you bang it on, and when it does, the screws securing it will begin to slowly work loose until you shift to your small chainring, where the screw will catch the chain and pull it up into the chainstays. This is a bad thing. Once that happens, the screw cannot be unscrewed (cause it's all bent up), and it has to be cut off. This means you have to stay on your middle and large chainring til you get to a screw cutting device. This can really suck if you're miles and miles from your car with lots of climbing between you and it. Don't ask me how I know, but this problem can definately lead to innappropriate language in the forest. The front derailleur sounds like rocks in a garbage disposal, and is kind of rough shifting.
Bike Setup:
stock, except for odometer, compass, tool bag, speed seat clamp
Bottom Line:
Have ridden this bike in all kind of conditions in Georgia, Kentucky, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, and totally love the bike. Look forward to making the upgrades and improving an already killer ride. Great bike for married guys who's wive's freak when they see the bike reviews of the high dollar stuff in the bike mags! Pros - This bike is wonderful to ride and can take most punishment I dish out... except I think I bent my front rim doing a bit of a downhill run (Yes, I downhilled on a hardtail!). The Judy XC forks are wonderful. I saw them for the first time about 3 months ago and I wanted a pair... so I bought a new bike. Compulsive, whatever. I'm glad I bought this from Schwinn too, I've heard many stories of their great service and the frame guarantee is nice to have. As this bike is light, riding uphill is a dream.
Cons - This bike's seat is harder that any I've ever ridden and should be replaced immediately! Also, this bike's drive kind of sucks. I'm planning an upgrade to LX/XT parts during the off season as the front derraileur sucks (put it out of alignment after about 2 rides) and the crankset is pretty heavy and not too stiff.
Bottom Line - This bike is very much worth the money but does require a little upgrading if u want to do any hardcore with it. I wouldn't get this bike if you're used to rear suspension though... unless u have one of those nifty Cane Creek Thudbusters...

Bottom Line:
When I first bought this bike 6 months ago I was happy as a pig in s*#t but have come to my senses. This bike does have some redeaming qualities like the judy xc on the front, all be it a bit on the heavy side it has nice travel and offers a really plush ride. The aluminum frame has good geometry, a replacable derailleur hanger and I suspect that it's also light although it's hard to tell with those heavy components hanging off it.
Now for the downside. The stock pedals are useless at keeping the toe straps in place. The SDG saddle is uncomfortable, not only was the logo not on straight, a sign of poor quality control, but I some how managed to bend one of the rails after about a month and i'm not a very heavy guy. The crank is very clunky and the Acera front derailleur is just plain crap. But my biggest peave about this bike are the spokes, I have had a couple of bikes before this one and never once snaped a spoke, but in the last week I have snapped three of these litle gems on the rear wheel. Two of them when I was riding on pavement! I am shocked that a company like schwinn would cut corners in such a crucial area, I've seen paper clips with more strength than these no name rods.
Summing up, if you plan to do any serious off road riding do not buy this bike! Instead suck it up and spend the extra $200 or so and get the moab2, it has better componentry, clipless pedals, kevlar bead tires and nicer rims. But be warned each bike in the moab line has the same cheap-ass nameless black 15 gauge spokes, you'll probably spend more time cursing out your ride than actually enjoying it. The next available funds I have are going towards a nice wheelset for sure.

I give 5 off those big red splotchy things.

Strengths:
Excellent bike for the money! I have not encountered any problems yet. Excellent on the road as well at the trail.
Weaknesses:
Saddle has to go! Will have to go to the hospital to have it removed from my crotch. If anyone knows of a company who makes good saddles, please let me know! wxchaser@owc.net

Bottom Line:
I think the Moab 3 is an excellent bike. It has been only 3 months but it has seen some rough rides and keeps asking for more. The bottom line is, if you maintain it, the bike will treat you well for years to come! I'd recommend it to friends. This bike definately get 5 turds!

Strengths:
Frame and the Judy XC
Weaknesses:
Cheap tubes - I blew them both on my second ride. Front derailleur takes a little coercing sometimes. No mount for rear disc brake.

M80

Bottom Line:
This bike is a joy to ride. It's quick and light, and easy to control. It takes the road, the dirt, and the rocks and keeps asking for more. I'm a big guy (6'5" - 200+), and I've been punishing this thing on curbs, corduroy hardpack, and rocks. No problems.
As an intermediate rider, I was looking for something affordable with a good standard package that was easily upgradable - this was it. The Judy XC takes everything, and I'll just keep customizing components as they break. Can't wait for the mountains to open so I can put this thing through some serious downhilling!
Great bike!

Stock setup with the exception of XT front derailluer
Bottom Line:
After owning several other bikes I must say that this is the king of the hill in this price range. Great geometry, the Judy XC works great, and the bike looks cool. One must is swapping the front derailluer, but this is no reason that the bike shouldn't recieve 5 chillies.

Bottom Line:
This bike out of the store is the best investment for a beginner/intermediate like me. I have had my fair share of huffy's and was ready to move up. I tested all comparable models and none had the feel as the MOAB. It is stiff and responsive. I have had it on the road (joy) had it in the San Diego foothills single tracking (stoked), and around lake miramar (awsome, tons of trails). This was my first suspenion (front Judy XC) bike and it took awhile (two crashes) to figure the whole set up. It is very user friendly and fun to ride and it pissed me off to see it scractched not from riding but from the car carrier (damn). The only two negative things I have to say is that the pedals suck, but in a few payday's that will be fixed. The other thing was a problem I had today. I was hauling down a trail and (accidently;) went through some mud. Well this kinda screwed up the front derailure, but nothing a quick tune-up can't fix. If you are looking for a nice bike under $700 ($769 with goodies) then test ride one of these today.
good luck.
