Bullet tough!!! I have put this thru a couple of nasty crashes. And nothing seems to hurt it much. These are tough frames. Oh yes, and lets not forget the reason so many people buy one of these, the brakes. You gotta watch these on wet pavement. They almost stop too good!!!
Weaknesses:
The stock saddle is horrible. The seatpost was piece of junk that failed after about six months. Replaced the seatpost with a Bontrager Select. Replaced the seat with a Selle Itailia Flite Gel. Its happyland again!!
Similar Products Used:
Tried a Schwinn Mesa and decided to go for the Moab Disc instead. Theres just something about those disc brakes.
Bike Setup:
Stock except for saddle, seatpost and tires. I switched to slicks with rain grooves. I mostly ride urban paved trails and the knobby tire were noisy and put my hands to sleep.
Bottom Line:
From what I've seen its a lot of bike for the money. Its tough as nails and looks good to boot. Its only drawback is that its a little heavier than equally priced machines. The ride quality is outstanding. If you get a chance to pick one up, JUST DO IT. You won't be sorry

Bike Setup:
Stock. Canadian version includes Avid mechanicals, Tioga rims, IRC Mythos, Judy C (Hyrda Coil), XT (rear), Deore everywhere else.
Bottom Line:
The Canadian version is different than yours, but the feel of the bike should be close. Brakes are a treat, performed well during rain storms, covered in mud, submerged in forest muck. Judy C fork will be swapped with Psylo or Duke at some point. The frame definitely will NOT. IRC tires love the forest, but not hard turns. This bike wants leap forward. Not considering rear suspension bike for quite a while. When not riding, this bike looks good enough to keep in my living room. Not for downhill.

Weaknesses:

Similar Products Used:
Nothing compaires for the price with these specks.
Bike Setup:
Now I have;200 Velocity rims, DT alpine spokes, Hayes superlight DT hubs, Race Face Next LP's, XT rear deralliuer and casset, LX front. Still stock Judi XC fork but not for long, Stock Hayes hydros, Ringle Slamma Jamma head set, Avid flack jackets for shifting, Answer DH riser bar ( IT dosen't bend).
Bottom Line:
I can't say enough good things about this bike. I have put 4000 miles on this bike in all kinds of terrain and weather and the bike begs for more. My favorite thing about this bike is, it likes to go fast. Especally in tight singal track. I've raced and won while rideing this rig and will stick with Schwinn frames as long as they keep up this kind of quality. The only bad thing about this bike would have to be the 32 pound weight on my 21' bike; but, the 2001's are supposed to be lighter.

Good sturdy frame, can take a beating. Great climber and awsome desender for a hardtail. Breaks RULE always work to their full extent even if wet or muddy. Good XC fork but poor for the DH runs. Could use a XTR in the rear and a XT up front but work very well.
Weaknesses:
none
Bike Setup:
stock
Bottom Line:
Buy this bike if you want a bike you can either XC or DS. if you put a XTR deraileur in the rear fatter tires on and a Marazocchi fork on this bike you will have a kick ass DS bike. Bike is set up stock to be a XC bike and Schwinn did a damn good job of it. Another thing about it is it is hella cheap!!!!!!Buy it

I've had it for 6 months now, no problems except for a bad caliper, which hayes repaired and had back to me within 4 days. This bike rocks though. I can bomb down any hill due to the Hayes hydros. I can watch my friends on racing hardtails fade behind me in tricky situations, and then watch my friends on freeride fulls fade behind me on climbs. this bike is a trend setter and a great deal, someone at Schwinn knew what they were doing! I sold my tricked trek 8900 with full XTR to buy this bike, and the ride quality is soooooo much better. It is like riding a couch around, and it's not ever a full. The best of both worlds, oh and for you DS guys, Schwinn still warrenties the bike with dual crown forks, even a Boxxer! 10 stars.

There seems to be a lot of opinions on the origin of the homegrown/moab frame. I have done alot of homework on this bike,it is a great deal. It does share geometry w/homegrown but is made over seas.Homegrown is usa made. The moab is a 7005 series alum. butted with forged chainstays,BB,headset.Homegrown is built with 6061 T-6(heat treated) and hand built.Homegrown has the rockin paint jobs and killer graphics. My first choice but the value of the moab is more in my price range. Found it for $900 w/discs! Have fun and be safe. (in that order)

Bang for the Buck! Well built performance bike for weekend warriors.
Weaknesses:
Bike shop mechanics are not generally up to speed on Disc Brake set up and maintenence. I broke the RICHEY pedels first time out! And my LS had to replace a brake cartridge on warranty (minor inconvenience just a little mushy at lever). When they did that they also had a longer rear hydualic line sent and that has taken care of the problem others have mentioned reguarding the line pulling out of the top tube holder.

I find myself wanting to ride even more since getting this bike. Brakes are great (squeaks go away after break in. Clean with Alcohol.)I am over 40 and could be in better shape but this bike gives the confidence to do things I might otherwise not try. Buy the way MY FRAME has a factory placed tag MADE IN USA.

Great bike! Taken on three trail rides so far and it has really performed. Judy XC's work nice and the Tioga tires really grab. The Hayes disc stop on a dime (however, I am experiencing some squeaking). Local LBS said this is natural with disks and will soon stop. One negative is the cable for the rear disk brake - it wants to pop out of the top tube holder during hard left turns. All-in-all, great purchase and I would do it again in a heartbeat!!! Have purchased one add-on- RS seatpost to take some of the edge off the hard bumps - works fairly well.

The bike is one of the best deals of the year. The brakes are a plus and it rides great. The frame on the Moab 1 Disc is pretty darn close to the Homegrowns except for the manufactured aluminum. I like Schwinns a lot (I have a HOMEGROWN), but the last person that reviewed this bike said that the frame is a Factory Homegrown frame, but it is not. All Moab frames are made outside of the US and Homegrowns are made in Durango, CO (by YETI). Moab's also have different geometry that Homegrowns do. The two bikes also have a different looking chain stays as well as seat stays. One last thing is that the frame of the Homegrown is Easton Aluminum but the Moab is not. It is still a good bike, just do not tell people that the bike is better that it is.

Well I've had my Moab Disc 1 about 2 weeks now, and it really kicks #$%. Seeing my work schedule doesn't allow me to race any more I couldn't mark Racer. The price on the bike was such a steal that I had enough change in my pocket to upgrade to XTR. The frame is rock solid, it's actually the same frame as used on the Homegrown Factory(Only Moab 1 Disc). It climbs like a beast and will turn on a dime. The stock Tiogas weren't to my liking so I slapped some Continental Traction Pro Dual Compounds on and now the bike is HYPE. For those of you who do not understand slang, the Schwinn Moab 1 Disc is the Best bicycle for the money. I personally feel if you upgrade the components you have a bike which is better than some priced thousands more, especially with the Hayes hydralic brakes( Thanks, Hotrodguru
