$600.00 | | Purchased At: | Krums | | Strengths: | Awesome frame! Great geometry, sturdy hardtail. Rocky Mountain really doesn't make a bad product and this is no exception. Good company to deal with should frame break as well. Awesome Cross country bike. | | Weaknesses: | Rocky's lowest priced bike almost, so components needed upgrading for the most part for ambitious riders. | | Bike Setup: | Rocky Fusion frame, Rolf dolomite disc wheels, LX Dual Control shifters/brakes deraillers, Icon graphite series cranks, stems, posts, rock shox sid, | | Bottom Line: | Great frame good entry level components, awesome company. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Cyclepath (price in | | Strengths: | Excellent shifters and derailleurs (for price paid). Shimano disc brakes are decent. Sturdy frame with strong crankshaft. Big tires; double-walled, stainless steel rims are a plus. Fork is better than on the bike I previously owned--more responsive, sturdier. | | Weaknesses: | In my limited experience with it so far, the 2008 Fusion is not a particularly FAST bike. My last bike had 24 speeds and this one has 27, so maybe I still have to find my perfect speed setting for flat run surfaces. Also, maybe once it's had its first tune-up, some of the "new-bike" kinks will get worked out of it. The brakes were a little soft when I first got it, but they are getting better and better. | | Similar Products Used: | 2007 Brodie Tempyst. | | Bike Setup: | Typical: off-the-rack set-up at time of purchase. I thought about upgrading the brakes to Avid BB5s or 7s, but was told to give the Shimanos a chance. So far, so good. | | Bottom Line: | I bought last year's model of this bike on sale (down from about $1k) to replace my 2007 Brodie Tempyst that was stolen out from under my nose early in May. A new Fusion retails for about $300 CAD more than the Tempyst; in my opinion, it's not worth the extra cash if you're looking for an entry level mountain bike that you intend to use for commuting and light trail riding. The Tempyst was a much faster bike; it was beefier; it had better brakes.
That said, the Fusion does shift like a dream and most of its components either match or outdo the Tempyst's. I don't ride the life out of my bikes (I'm a 5'3" female rider weighing under 150 lbs), so I don't really look for a lot except a lightweight frame, good shifting, good brakes, and speed.
At the sale price, this was a great buy, but I don't think I'd have paid full price for it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$758.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | light, strong frame, good stock components | | Weaknesses: | pedals | | Bike Setup: | stock except for shimano 520s | | Bottom Line: | Its a great bike for commuting I've ridden this bike on long trips(30+ miles) and it was fast enough to keep up with some roadies. It also climbs very well. The only downfall is the vp pedals that come with it if you slip off them or bash one into your shin it will bruise and draw blood. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$899.00 | | Purchased At: | Revolution Cycle Edm | | Strengths: | It is a solid frame for the price. The components may not be amazing, but they are decent for the price range (Deore front deraileur and LX in the rear). | | Weaknesses: | Shocks could be better
The pedals leave a lot to be desired and if your feet ever slip off the pedals they will leave you missing a good bit of skin. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Rockhopper | | Bike Setup: | I've only had it a few months and it is still stock. I'm planning on getting clipless pedals soon. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great entry level bike. I used to mountain bike a few years back before my Rockhopper got stolen and i was in school and too poor to buy another one for 3 yeras. I'm just getting back into the sport and so far i find this to be an amazing bike to get back into the sport with. It is also a great bike for those on a tight budget.
Lets be clear, this is not a hardcore mountainbike for downhill racing, jumping or dropping 4' on. But for someone who wants to both ride to work, and then hit some singletrack and some technical trails with roots on the weekend, then this is a great bike for the price. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$899.00 | | Purchased At: | Arrowsmith Cycles | | Strengths: | Inexpensive and handles well in twisty single track. | | Weaknesses: | The brakes are crap (I upgraded to Juicy 3), the cranks get stripped and the riding position is way to upright. Also the Marrizochi MZ Comps bob a lot upon acceleration. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 4300 | | Bike Setup: | Upgraded brakes to Juicy 3's, new cranks and Panaracer Fire XCPro tires. | | Bottom Line: | This bike was a good price, it corners well and for a first time mountain biker I would recommend it. You will need to upgrade the brakes because the Shimano Deore that come stock with it wear out within four months. I would buy Rocky Mountain again but not this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

good commuter bike but watch those curbs not good if you're a kid looking for fun

$650.00 | | Purchased At: | EMS | | Strengths: | A good overall entry-level bike for the price. | | Weaknesses: | The seat and grips are hard and uncomfortable. Get rid of the stock pedals, dangerous! The bike doesn't climb as well as others previously use. The mechanical disc brakes need continuous adjustment. I would recommend replacing the stock tires, I had problems with traction (in the rear) and tread wear.
| | Similar Products Used: | Fuji and Specialized hardtails. | | Bike Setup: | Basically stock with the addition of crank brothers mallet pedals and few extra add-ons. | | Bottom Line: | I would definetely recommend this bike to beginners or people returning to the mtn. bike scene - such as myself. The price is right for a quality frame and average components. I do like shocks on the softer side, so the MZ Comp was a good fit. I put this bike through some serious terrain (a lot of downhill) and took a few severe spills expecting to carry the bike the rest of the way. Yet, it's never left me stranded and is as durable as anything I've used to date. With a few upgrades, you'll have yourself a nice bike to use for many years. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | Revolution Cycle in Edmonton | | Strengths: | Solid components and easy riding made this bike perfect for myself. I'd been out of the loop for a couple years, and we decided on the Fusion over a Kona or a DeVinci. | | Weaknesses: | The front shock is a little soft, and the mechanical discs gave me a little grief. The brakes just need adjustments. | | Bike Setup: | All stock. Just make sure you don't let the pedals take chunks out of your calf. I have cuts that are 4 weeks old and still scabbed over. | | Bottom Line: | Overall, a damn fine bike. Just don't expect it to be as forgiving on the trails when a full-suspension bike would be better. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$749.00 | | Purchased At: | Ascent Cycling | | Strengths: | Great Frame! Excellent ride. Shimano components. This bike rides like a dream. Very stable on street or trail. I recommend the Fusion to anyone looking for a quality daily rider bike. | | Weaknesses: | I'd like a better fork (came with Marzocchi MZ Comp). This one seems okay but I'm a bigger guy and it sometimes seems a bit soft. | | Similar Products Used: | Test rode Kona Cinder Cone but liked the feel of the Rocky Mountain better. It was lighter too! | | Bike Setup: | Stock; someday will probably get a nicer fork. | | Bottom Line: | I used to ride A LOT in the late 80's and early 90's 'til I got married and my GT got stolen. Since then other priorities kept me from getting back into mountain biking. I just got the Fusion to get me back in shape and back into riding. I have absolutely NO regrets about this bike! It's a blast to ride. Eventually I'm sure I'll make the move into full suspension and fully expect to stick with Rocky Mountain. And the customer service at Ascent was UNBEATABLE! Thanks guys! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Revolution Cycle | | Strengths: | GREAT FRAME FOR PRICE! Decent components for an enthusiastic first-timer like me. Slightly better components than the RM Soul for just a few more bucks - definately worth it. And still not as pricy at the RM Trailhead (which all have the same frame, just different components/different prices). I love products that are simple and honest in appearance...RM's always fit that criteria. | | Weaknesses: | Maybe abit overpriced for the type of components, but hard to find anything else out there that compares. Components may not satisfy the "true" hardcore enthusiast. | | Similar Products Used: | Rocky Mountain Soul, Rocky Mountain Trailhead, Kona Blizzard | | Bike Setup: | OEM for now...except for the bell!! | | Bottom Line: | You can't find a better company, better quality and simplicity for the price. A great first-time bike, but will keep you riding for YEARS to come with the slightly better-than-average brand components. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$325.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Lightweight; excellent steering & balance; mostly good components. | | Weaknesses: | Not the highest level derailleurs (Acera FD & Alivio RD). | | Similar Products Used: | Trek Mountain Track 800; Specialized Rockhopper | | Bike Setup: | RS "Judy" TT fork; Alex rims; Terry Cite saddle; mostly Shimano everything else. | | Bottom Line: | What a pleasure it is to ride this bike. I was lucky to come upon a deal at my LBS on an '05 RM Soul (close to a Fushion) which had been a rental; but, except for some scrapes & scratches, is in great shape. Unfortunately this bike puts my new Specialized Rockhopper to shame- it is lighter, faster, and steers better. Not that the Rockhopper is shabby, but in comparison it suffers. The only thing I had to change right away was the original rock hard seat (replaced it with a Terry Cite). Eventually I'll probably repace the front & rear derailleurs with higher grade stuff; but for now they are working fine, so why bother? | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$675.00 | | Purchased At: | Spoke O' Motion | | Strengths: | Frame light and stiff, Judy100mm are great at dampening vibration and take the big hits ok, Maxxis HighRollers are the best I have riden to date, Shimano 465 Discs great to have, but a little small for me, need larger diameter disks or bigger calipers. | | Weaknesses: | Wellgo Big Flats are good to a point, but don't let them get a hold of your shin, they will eat skin. | | Similar Products Used: | tested everything in several stores. | | Bike Setup: | Changed to Shimano clipless from my last bike and a computer, get one with wireless, totall nice to have. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is a great deal, a similar one is the TASS from GF, but at 350CDN more for basically the same bike, I thought the Fusion had just a little more feel and a little more nimble.
Test them all, the bike for you will feel like gold.

$745.00 | | Purchased At: | Scattalon Cycle | | Strengths: | The FRAME....I have to say that while I was shopping for an entry level mtb on a limited budget you will not find a frame as light, durable, and agile as the 7005 Easton Custom Aluminum. There are also fairly decent componets including some deore with room to upgrade. It also comes with the highly competeive Maxxis Highroller tires. | | Weaknesses: | The pedals....if your goin to want to keep the pedals I suggest buying at minimal a set of bear claws to keep your feet in tight. The first week i tore the heck out of my calves do to the metal grips on these things....the weight also isn't too impressing. | | Similar Products Used: | Marin Bolinas Ridge | | Bike Setup: | All stock except the pedals-Crank Brothers Mallet C's(egg beaters with the platform). | | Bottom Line: | Overall I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The Fusion is and has been known in the past to be a great entry level bike for the inspired weekend warrior. As I said eariler the frame is the jewel on this entire bike. There are many areas that I plan to upgrade in the future such as the drive terrain, shifters,v-brakes(to discs)and the judy tt fork. I have already takin this bike out into very rough terrain and on the muddiest days that Ontario weather is nutorious for....the high rollers have superb grip, the frame and strength of the bike allow it to be very agile and can withhold you beating the pulp out of it. This bike is a real steal for any entry level riders on a buget...but if you can spend the extra couple hundred for the hammer...you get the same great frame but with better components from Rocky Mountain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
