from Rochdale, England Date Reviewed: August 21, 2008 | | Favorite Trail: | Whever I go | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Typical bombproof hand build from Rocky Mountain, Premier builder of bikes. Expensive for a frame only but worth every one of my hard earned 1500 English Pounds. | | Weaknesses: | Not too much a weakness more of a moan in that the TST R rear shock and spring are set up for the average rider and you do not get a choice of spring - I upgraded to 600 spring and sent shock to Tim Flooks to set up for my weight and riding style. | | Similar Products Used: | Rocky Mountain bikes only - nothing else is good enough | | Bike Setup: | All new build in 2007. 66RC2X front shock, RaceFace Diabolus headset-stem-bars-BB-cranks-chain guide-seat post, Handbuilt wheelset-Sun USA Double Wide on Hope Pro2 with Kujo DH 2.65 front tyre and Kenda Nevegal 2.35 rear tyre, Hayes9 DH brakes front and rear on 8inch rotors,SRAM X9 rear and shifter, Easton Cully pedals. | | Bottom Line: | Bit of a tank weightwise with the build but I don't mind pushing up the steeper hills for the adrenelin flowing downhill bits on the trails I use. Not ideal for riding up big hills but then it's not set up for XC. Now goes better with the new rear shock set up which has set up the compression through the range with a few shims and more air to stop the pedal bob - with a bit more air put in the front forks to level the whole suspension up. Sticks to the ground like glue, flies like a bird and and lands like a butterfly. This bike gives the confidence to go faster and bigger. This bike will take anything you throw at it and has has got me through a few scrapes were I thought "whoops, the ground is coming up to meet me" then it just tucks in and comes on through. Unfortunately RM do not make these frames anymore but if you can get hold of one - do so. Ideal bike for the English weather and terrain if you want something that rides fast through the wind, rain and mud or when God decides every now and again to ride when the great yellow orb is in the sky. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Adreniline bikes | | Strengths: | well built, bullit proof, confidence inspiring, progressive suspension, looks good, one of the last canadian hand built rocky mountain bikes. | | Weaknesses: | interupted seattube design, Rock Mountain doesn't make them anymore | | Similar Products Used: | Transition Preston FR, Diamondback Mission 3 | | Bike Setup: | 07'switch frame with marzocchi tstr rear shock, 66 rc2x up front. Race face stem and cranks x-9 drivetrain e-thirteen srs chain guide wellgo mg-1 pedals, loco wheels | | Bottom Line: | I have been extrmely happy with this bike. The rear shock was easy to set up and compliments the 66 rc2x that i have on the front perfectly. I highly recommend the marzocchi 66 rc2x on this bike. This bike really is capable of alot of different diciplines. I have used this bike to dirt jump, cross country, and downhill. The bike is most at home on downhills but will get you up to the top fine if you are willing to pedal. If you get this bike plan on buying two seat posts or a telescoping seatpost. When i am freeriding/dirtjumping i have one post that will allow me to drop it all the way down because it's cut short. I also have a second post that is longer for rides with more time in the seat. When i first started riding this bike i remember thinking to my self "this is what suspension is supposed to feel like." great small bump sensitivity that is progressive as you move through the travel. Everything feels stiff with minimal flex. If you can find one of these frames buy it! you will not regret the purchase. This is a bike that i intend to get several seasons of hard use out of. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
