Date Reviewed: May 28, 2005
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $640.00
Purchased At:Silent Sport
Strengths:Frame, a mix of good componets for the price
Weaknesses:tires needs to be a bit wider, saddle (well, stock saddles never works)
Similar Products Used:some low end trek and diamondback
Bike Setup:everything stock except: flat 4rox stem 100mm, ritchey pro flat handlebar, sette Ti saddle, LX brakes, XT RD
Bottom Line:Rocky doesn't make this model anymore but I feel I should give them credits for a good product. I'm glad I'd found this great bargin at my LBS. Geometry is perfect for those who are seeking a balance between race and sport level HT. Componets are all decent except for what I've mentioned above but it can be fixed easily. Decent much better compare to my previous bike. Only I've found the front tire search a bit on steep climb, but that was probrably I've switched from a dirt cheap 70mm fork on my old trek to a 100mm fork on this rocky which I'll need a while to get to use to. Overall a very good entry/mid level bike.

Favorite Trail:Screaming Mosquito, the Loops
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:Spoke n Motion
Strengths:Sweet stiff bike for trail riding. Easy to pull up the hills and takes the bends with nothing but joy. Lightweight but strong and it definitely performs well in all terrain. You can even go and get a little crazy on it, without worrying 'bout breaking your S#^! This is a learning/burning bike that is great for a first step, or a second, light-weight climber for getting out and getting in shape!
Weaknesses:The stock wheels/tyres are a little weak. Need big rubber and a bomb-proof back wheel if you plan on doing anything that involves jumping, hopping or finesse. Busted about 3 chains on this one, so you gotta be careful about torquin in the right gears.
Similar Products Used:Kona Cindercone
Bike Setup:Stock w/ Black Spire bash guard, 2.10 back/2.25 front, sunrims double-wide on the back. Replacement on the rd twice, but the shocks are still springin' and the pedals are still turning
Bottom Line:Super bike for the value. Lots of years and lots of miles on this (little) rig. It'll take pretty much anything you can throw at it, unless you're talking serious big hit or big bad bumps. Great for learning the finesse and movement on trails, and is light enough for when you gotta climb. Rocky made a real winner with this one.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $875.00
Purchased At:woodcocks bikes
Strengths:i really like the easton frame, race face crank and marizocchi fork. It climbs well, rides well and is alot of fun on the trails and looks good doing it.
Weaknesses:the only thing that i would complain about is the seat, its pretty uncomfortable on a long ride. i also would of liked a set of disc brakes for the price but the vee brakes work fine.
Similar Products Used:norco charger and giant rainer.
Bike Setup:marizocchi exr air fork, easton frame, alex ace rims, maxxis wheels and deore and lx drivetrain.
Bottom Line:this bike is automatically a cut above other because of its handmade rocky frame. the components are the same if not better than the competion. if you are a begginer or are looking for a great all around hardtail than this is your bike. bottom line: if you can find it buy it!

Favorite Trail:Trail 4
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $750.00
Purchased At:Bobs Bicycles
Strengths:Strong frame, good welds. Great raceface crankset. Good Sram 7.0 cog set. Handles well on the downhills and climbs like no other bike I've ever been on. Great bike for a beginer/sport racer.
Weaknesses:Stickers come off the first time they get scratched or washed. Rear derailler broke in the first week i had it.
Bike Setup:Singlespeed, Bontrager race handlbar, surly hubs, xtr chain, fox float 80, big cheese grips, king headset, eggbeater triple ti.
Bottom Line:Great bike for racing on, light, and has great downhilling handling, for a hardtail. Climbes like no other. Perfect for a biker just getting into the sport, and isnt to spendy.

Date Reviewed: August 4, 2003
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1300.00
Purchased At:A&L
Strengths:Solid frame, great component package, good fork, looks great. Climbs the hills like nothing I've ever ridden before. Handles downhills very well. Comfortable for the long rides. It's the whole package.
Weaknesses:I don't think there are any.
Similar Products Used:Rincon, Nunu, Trek 4900
Bike Setup:stock
Bottom Line:Rocky makes the best frames and it's the frame that makes a great bike. The frame is bulletproof... and light and responsive. The bike handles all conditions well and can take more punishment than I thought possible. The components are great, but I'd spring for a fatter set of rubber. This is a bike that anyone looking to spend $1300 CAN should check out, you'll fall in love as soon as you start pounding the pedals. And best of all, it's made in Canada!

Favorite Trail:Thetford forest
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:Madisons
Strengths:Well the bike is great as a starting bike if you have just got in to cycling, its ideal for xc and it has lots of top end of the range components. i got the bike for £580 because i brought it from the dealer which i got a discount at for working there.
Weaknesses:When you ride it, it dosen't feel as chuckable as some bikes and i have had problems with stickers coming off.
Similar Products Used:Kona Cindacone
Bottom Line:This bike handles realy well and is really good at things like climbing, it might not be as chuckable as some other bikes the the high quality componentry make up for it. so far no parts have had to be replaced but i am replacing the seat clamp for a hope bolt clamp and i had to have the rear mech fixed after i crashed it. the tyres that come with it are good as i am running them at the lowest psi and they have only had 1 puncture from some glass.

Strengths:Is built very sturdy won't break. Great componet setup
Weaknesses:Seat just needs to be swtiched out.
Bike Setup:switched the seat
Bottom Line:I purchased the bike on saturday and already by thursday it has probably been used for at least 20 hours on the trail and still works just as well as the day i got it. A great beginners bike. I'm still a beginner and have trashed it and it still holds up perfectly. By it now!

Favorite Trail:Gatineau Park, Quebec, Canada
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1500.00
Purchased At:The Cyclery (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
Strengths:I don't know if there is enough space to give this bike the praise that it deserves. It's greatest strength is of course the Rocky Mountain frame. The frame is super light and whips through the ups, downs, turns and corners like an enema. The components are all better than average which means you don't have do do many upgrades right away. The Marzocchi EXR Air - 100mm is great and easy to maintain.
Weaknesses:The only weakness I have found are the Maxxis Mofo tires. With just a little mud, the treads plug up and you have yourself a set of racing slicks.
Similar Products Used:Giant XTC 2
Bike Setup:Things I have changed from stock:
Deore brakes - Avid 5's
Deore Levers - Avid SD 7's
Maxxis rear tire - WTB Velociraptor
Bottom Line:This bike is super and I would not go back on my decision to purchase it. I have already raced it and pushed it as hard as I could, it held its own and carried me to the finish line. I think that this bike is meant for entry level racers based on the components and set-up. If you are a weekend warrior some of the lower end Rocky Mountain bikes might be for you. The components are great but leave you with the choice of some upgrades while you save up your pocket change. I have to say that this bike is worth every cent that I paid for it, and I would encourage others to at least take it for a test ride when making their decision.

Strengths:a whole lot. awesome components(race face cranks, lx rear derailer), sweet fork, they picked out the perfect one for my riding(marzocchi EXR) overall great ride for xc riders
Weaknesses:not much exept the saddle. that is the only thing that i would switch out on it.
Similar Products Used:giant rainier, i picked this out over it
Bike Setup:same as i bought it as...check the rocky web site
Bottom Line:this is a GREAT bike!!!!!!! i would recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet solid hardtail for under 1000$. if you end up getting it,i know you will not be dissapointed!!!

Date Reviewed: May 7, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $900.00
Purchased At:Mike's Bicycle Center
Strengths:Quality Components
Weaknesses:Price and saddle.
Similar Products Used:Cannondale F400
Bottom Line:A very solid hardtail mtb. Very good components used (see website for complete listing). I had to choose between the Cannondale F400 and found that the Rocky Mountain just had more of the upgrades that I would have to spend to make them equivalent. If you are looking for something that you don't have to upgrade and is very good quality, this is a great choice.
