Bottom Line:awesome all around bike, tested others but this one just felt right. had for over a year and the only thing thats busted on me was the rear rim.I know its made for xc but it really inspires me to drop my seat and take 6-8 foot drops.thats the only reason i've change the fork!

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Galyans, of all places
Strengths:Frame is solid. Components are marginal.
Weaknesses:Fork seems to have too much "play" and is heavy. Tires are marginal on wet terrain and steep climbs. Pedals are sub-par. Overall the bike is HEAVY.
Bottom Line:Great entry level bike for someone looking for a solid frame. I upgraded the crank set to XTR, replaced pedals, and purchased new tires (Hutchinson Alligator -which rock).
Contemplating a new bike purchase this spring, as this one is a little too heavy.

Strengths:Frame is very strong, half decent derailleurs, brakes are okay. This bike is good if you are on a budget and enjoy cross country riding.
Weaknesses:I put a number of flat spots on my rear rim, front derallieur is crap, could use better pedals, seat isn't comfterble fork is bad and bottoms out ocassionaly
Similar Products Used:POS jeep bike that broke a millon times.
Bike Setup:Shimano m545 pedals, deore lx front derailleur, mavic x221 rear rim and a new seat soon.
Bottom Line:This bike is good for a lighter xc rider, i am 195lbs so that might be a little big for an xc rider. frame is superstrong so keep th frame and just upgrade as things get broken. eventually you will have an awsome bike.Get this bike if you're on abudget it is a good deal.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $480.00
Purchased At:ABC Cycle
Strengths:Frame is really strong. Low Price: 750$ CDN or 480$ US (At the time I'm writing this review)
Weaknesses:Low-end Shimano, clip'n strap pedal.
Similar Products Used:-Tested- Rocky Mountain HardTail
-Tested- Da Vinci XT
-Tested- CannonDale F300
Bike Setup:As is, except the pedals, changed for Shimano PDM-545
Bottom Line:This is my first actual "quality" mountain bike. I'm really amazed how light and stiff these things can get today. Since I'm a beginner, it was probably useless to spend more $$ on some higher quality components that would'nt make much a difference for me. If I realy enjoy MTB, then I guess I can upgrade the components the way I want it (Like I did for the pedals).

The bike work really well as of now (2 months usage, average 1 hour ride a day, commute and off road), no failure whatsoever, only two minor crashes without breaking anything on the bike... well just some scratches :-\.

Another reviewer said the V-Brake are weaks, which is probably the case for someone who wants to stop on a dime and does more intensive riding (race) than I do. However The brakes work quite well for me, no "skweaking", and I almost did an "endo" by just pushing too hard on the front brake (No, I dont intend to get disc brake, well not now!)

If you are looking at a really good first quality bike, but dont wanna spend a lot of $$$ for it, then this one is for you.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $850.00
Purchased At:Bay Cycle
Strengths:Frame construction is awesome. Very agile around turns.
Weaknesses:Cheap vbrakes. RST adjustable shock isnt the greatest but it is holding up to my abuse pretty well.
Bottom Line:This bike was well worth the $850Cdn i spent on it. I have put well over 500kms on it since i bought it over a month ago and I have no regrets purchasing it. This bike has given me no real problems even after several accidents. The bike weighs around 30lbs so dont expect to be the first to the top of the hill. This bike is excellent for the rider who rides on all types of terrain and is on a budget.

Favorite Trail:Schaeffer Farms, MD
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $599.00
Purchased At:Galyan's, believe it or not
Strengths:The frame. It's all in the frame. Eason Elite tubes and the Sun wheelset, it's all very solid. Rocky's own bars and stem seem pretty stiff and of very good quality.
Weaknesses:The component group could be a bit better, but if you have the extra cash go for one of the beefier models. The RST fork is a little weak and will be my next upgrade. I've already swapped out the low-ball Shimano brakes for Avid SD-7's. The pedals were very weak and I saved my Shimano 646's from my old bike, thankfully. The frame's a real keeper here, but 85% of the components are bottom-end Shimano (but why do I complain... bottom-end Shimano beats no-name garbage, right?).
Similar Products Used:'99 Trek 7000
Bottom Line:This is a great bike for a more serious beginner or for someone who doesn't have the cash to drop on a better-spec'd ride (like me). Although upgrading the components gradually will eventually lead you to a pretty sweet bike. It's very much rideable right off the rack. Again, the operative words here are FRAME QUALITY. The fork and brakes are an obvious weak spot and eventually I'd switch up to a better crank and bottom bracket setup, this frame is worthy of it!
