Tires are marginal on wet terrain and steep climbs. Pedals are sub-par. Overall the bike is HEAVY. | | Bottom Line: | Great entry level bike for someone looking for a solid frame. I upgraded the crank set to XTR, replaced pedals, and purchased new tires (Hutchinson Alligator -which rock).

I'm really amazed how light and stiff these things can get today. Since I'm a beginner, it was probably useless to spend more $$ on some higher quality components that would'nt make much a difference for me. If I realy enjoy MTB, then I guess I can upgrade the components the way I want it (Like I did for the pedals).
The bike work really well as of now (2 months usage, average 1 hour ride a day, commute and off road), no failure whatsoever, only two minor crashes without breaking anything on the bike... well just some scratches :-\.
Another reviewer said the V-Brake are weaks, which is probably the case for someone who wants to stop on a dime and does more intensive riding (race) than I do. However The brakes work quite well for me, no "skweaking", and I almost did an "endo" by just pushing too hard on the front brake (No, I dont intend to get disc brake, well not now!)
If you are looking at a really good first quality bike, but dont wanna spend a lot of $$$ for it, then this one is for you. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

RST adjustable shock isnt the greatest but it is holding up to my abuse pretty well. | | Bottom Line: | This bike was well worth the $850Cdn i spent on it. I have put well over 500kms on it since i bought it over a month ago and I have no regrets purchasing it. This bike has given me no real problems even after several accidents. The bike weighs around 30lbs so dont expect to be the first to the top of the hill. Rocky's own bars and stem seem pretty stiff and of very good quality. | | Weaknesses: | The component group could be a bit better, but if you have the extra cash go for one of the beefier models. The RST fork is a little weak and will be my next upgrade. I've already swapped out the low-ball Shimano brakes for Avid SD-7's. The pedals were very weak and I saved my Shimano 646's from my old bike, thankfully. The frame's a real keeper here, but 85% of the components are bottom-end Shimano (but why do I complain... bottom-end Shimano beats no-name garbage, right?). | | Similar Products Used: | '99 Trek 7000 | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike for a more serious beginner or for someone who doesn't have the cash to drop on a better-spec'd ride (like me). Although upgrading the components gradually will eventually lead you to a pretty sweet bike. It's very much rideable right off the rack. Again, the operative words here are FRAME QUALITY.
