Great paint, welds, and attention to most detail. | | Weaknesses: | Horible chainline. Chain suck into the tire everytime you hit a bump. RM claims it's from the 24" tire and you should use a hose clamp and a piece of round aluminum to wrap the chain...cheezy for a top end bike. I bent a piece of aluminum into a 'L' bracket, mounted it to the swingarm and attached a spare MRP roller to it to guide the chain. It's super sano and works great. Email me for picks if you want to do the same to yours. | | Similar Products Used: | Santa Cruz V10, Spec Big Hit DH. | | Bike Setup: | Stock, other than MRP, custom chain guide and Gazo tires front and back. | | Bottom Line: | Throw away the stock tires before you take it out for a ride, they have paper thin sidewalls and you'll blow them your first ride. Once the chainline was fixed the bike preforms perfectly. I'm 6'3" 220 pounds, I wouldn't recommend the bike for smaller then 6' riders. I've ridden the bike to the top of the mountain (pushed most of it), it's a monster. Mountains with chairlifts are your friends. God bless Whistler!! Amazingly strong. | | Weaknesses: | super tall stand over height when using a 26" wheel in the rear. A bit heavy. | | Bike Setup: | 2002 Rocky Mountain RM9 with Mavic D321 rims, panaracer FR 2.4 tires, saint hubs brakes and deraileur, ird black lightning chain and cassette, mr dirt chain guide, XT levers and shifter, race face cranks bottom bracket handlebars and seatpost, azonic seat and pedals and a marzocchi super t pro up front. | | Bottom Line: | I bought this frame used after the guy I got it from sent it back and had it painted and a new rear end put on it. It is in perfect shape. I have heard of people saying that the rear mounts ovalized after riding them for a short while. Anything will do that if you don't maintain your bike. If you tighten everything up after a good day of downhilling it will defenitely out last you. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you. This is one sweet ride. $2600.00 | | Strengths: | sweet paint job, sturdy frame, plush... i purchased the frame only, and built it up from there w/top notch equip.. | | Weaknesses: | i've had two problems in my short time riding this frame, first was the chainline, holy crap is it bad in the easiest rear cog, i snapped a chain 2 weeks after building it... second is the rear dogbone link lower bearings! they blew out after only 5 weeks of riding, and only 1 day of downhilling! i got new bearings, and rebuilt it, and because the bearings came apart, the bolt actually wore out the bolt holes in the swingarm, and the main pivots also have play! this SUX! only 5 weeks of riding, and it wasn't even continuous riding, only off and on! | | Similar Products Used: | Mountain Cycle San Andreas DHS, GT Dhi, Orange hardtail | | Bike Setup: | 2002 Monster T, North Shore cranks, Double Wide rims, etc... | | Bottom Line: | the frame looks sweet, and the first couple weeks of riding it took everything i threw at it! then it just came apart at the bearings! this caused a swingarm replacement! i had a Huffy that lasted longer! this is totally unacceptable for a top notch frame from an excellent company... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The rear end is totaly progressive the first few inches are nice and plush and I have yet to bottom out and I am 6'4" at 210LBS. Bigest drop is 10', bigest drop to flat was about 7'. Bike is very nimble and does not feel that heavy also pedals a lot beter then I expected. The rear tire stays on the ground in all conditions. Altough when I got the frame I put an avalanche shock on it from day one. I'm sure this helps but the fox shock was not bad, just not as tuneable and from what I here not as reliable. Not to mention the bike looks sweet. Also the new swingarm is beefy and stiff. | | Weaknesses: | What weaknesses??? O.K. every ride has a weekness. So hears the truth. You can't fit a 3" tire in the rear. althoug it's realy not a problem. Some people say that you get chain suck. Not me.(I have a Mr. Dirt chain guide)My one reel problem is the bearings in the main linkege arm not the bearing in the swingarm but the one right where the swingarm meets with the linkage to the shock. There are 3 608RS bearing that make this pivit point and I blew them up. Thats right they fell apart. but on the up side it's just a few cheep bearings and you can still ride all that happens is you get about 1" of free float in the rear travel which I could barly tell was there. Also on the plus side it's an easy fix and the bearing are the same size as roller blade bearings thats right roller blades. Just make sure they are stailess steel and sealed and double check the size. If you know how to press a bearing it's an easy fix that takes about 15 min. and about $5.00. I talked to Rocky and they said they have only heard a few problems and are looking for a posible fix. But I would rather replace 3 bearing than a broken frame. I also made a little bearing press kit to use out on the trail all it takes is a bolt some washers of the right size and nut for the other side. Going to either a Mr. Dirt or MRP. | | Similar Products Used: | RM 7, Super 8 | | Bike Setup: | Ditched the RaceFace bars for Kore Strickly D's, Intense grips, Kooka DH stem, Kore pedals, Razor Rock brake levers, Intense FRO 2.7 up front, Nokian 2.6 rear | | Bottom Line: | This bike is sick!! Takes some getting use to the weight, but other than that, the bike is bullet proof. Soaked up a 9 1/2 foot dead drop with ease. Last years rode great but the pivots had poor tolerances and the bolts sucked. But this year the needle bearings were replaced by three cartridge bearings per pivot! Awesome paint. | | Weaknesses: | WERE THE @#*$ is the 12 or 20mm through axle? and more rear tire clearance. Little heavy, mine is 47lbs. | | Similar Products Used: | Lenz, Foes, cheeta, others | | Bike Setup: | Shiver, azonic stem, answer bar, King Steel H.S., North Shore XS cranks, MRP, Tioga rims, Sram drive. | | Bottom Line: | Complete, this bike comes spec'd really well this year. No better bang for your buck. As a frame only, it is sweet, but has a very distinct ride. I dig it. But it definatly is long and a little slow in the corners, but who gives a @#$* it will take anything you give it. Some say it is not a race bike, but it has not held me back at all. Every DH bike has its flaws, and so does the RM-9. But I can doe anything I want on it and it has really saved me when I try new things.
