Strengths:Strong, Raceface cranks, Hayes brakes, ThrustLink

Date Reviewed: September 9, 2002
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:Frame: STOUT! The Jr. T fork has been great so far too.
Weaknesses:Didn't come with a chainguide - I'd have paid a little more for an MRP LRP.
Bike Setup:Stock except for treads. Stock Maxxis MoFo 2.35's are gone in favor of Michelin DH 2.5's.
Bottom Line:Until this weekend, I'd only done urban freeriding & some recreational downhilling on the lift runs at Keystone ski area. I finally got a chance to race DH at the SolVista Golf & Ski Ranch (formerly Silver Creek) in Colorado the other day and discovered another dimension to the RM7. It's been great for freeriding, but you really can't appreciate what the bike is capable of until you're hauling down a nasty technical course at race pace. From the first 7 foot high road gap (I rolled it, thanks anyway) until the tabletop at the finish, it just seems to say "Come on man, is that all you got?". My confidence level goes up a notch every time I ride it, and I guarantee the bike, at least the frame part of it, can handle whatever you're ballsy enough to try.

Strengths:Stout frame, suspension design, component mix
Weaknesses:Unable to travel thru time
Similar Products Used:Tomac 204 Mag, Bullit
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:Great bike for the money. Frame is way stout & components are top shelf. Capable of freeriding or downhilling with minor mods. Pedals uphill, lofts nicely & soaks up drops like a dream. Not exactly an all-arounder, but does a lot of things well. Suits me fine.

Favorite Trail:Anything Northshore rocks!
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $2900.00
Purchased At:Black's Cycle, Comox BC
Strengths:I test rode a number of bikes in this category and nothing compares. It's been said before, but for a seven inch travel bike it climbs, and cross countries' very well. I felt comfortable dropping five or six feet on my hardtail, but this bike begs to be tidden with speed off anything. Despite it's plush travel, it eats up the technical shiznit too.
Weaknesses:It's not free!!!
Similar Products Used:Norco Launch, Norco Vps, Ellsworth DH, Rocky Mountain Switch
Bike Setup:Raceface cranks, headset, rings. Marzocchi superT Pro QR20 7" fully adjustable, Mavic D321 Disc specific rims Maxxis Mobster 2.7" and Mofo 2.35" tires with DH Tubes
Bottom Line:Love this bike, I make time to ride it, even if it's just an hour of urban assault in the evening during a buy week.
Good on Ya Rocky Mountain!

Favorite Trail:Ver Boden
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $2850.00
Purchased At:Fernie Sports
Strengths:Strong bike, it has hit trees and cartwheeled down trails and still is fine. 7 inches soaks up almost every screwed up landing I've made, except the last one!!! Good spec bike.
Weaknesses:Chain jumps from Middle ring to little on downhill. Rear Derrailure slap on Thrust link. Jr.T felt really soft at First.
Similar Products Used:YZF 426, WR250, YZ80.
Bike Setup:Stock. Jr T, Fox RC, Raceface Prodigy, Rhynolite rims, Titec Hellbent bar, Hayes Mag 8",LX and XT derailure.
Bottom Line:It's my first bike and I've been MTB riding for a month and a half. This bike gives you confidence.

It rides fine uphill. Although I'm pretty slow no complaining as I see guys rinding 50+ pound DH bikes up steep trails like a breeze.

Makes the trails so smooth and makes it easy for riding uphill.

Pull the derrailure cable through the swing arm, this shortens the loop at the end and stops the derrailure hitting the swing arm. Put some padding around the area too.

Kev, stiffened up the fork, but had to source some other springs from Marzzochi.

Gives confidence for Log rides as it can soak up a landing if you have to bail.

Just another good bike on the market!!! Try It. No complaints here!!!

Price Paid: $2600.00
Strengths:This bike is bomber! Great freeride as well as CC.
Weaknesses:For downhill, I wish I had a single ring with chain gaurd. Also, the Fox shock isn't as great as I expected.
Bike Setup:Stock 2002 frame and shock with full XT, XTR. Triple Ring for the uphill. Easton stem, seat post, and handle bar, ...not a fan of Titec.
Bottom Line:Sick bike, I'm glad its sold out so no one else can get my bike.

Favorite Trail:24 Hrs of Allamuchy NJ
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $2600.00
Purchased At:Dizzy Cycles
Strengths:Bombproof Frame, Motocross suspension, Pedals very well for 7" travel bike, Can Downhill and Crosscountry!
Weaknesses:Chain and rear derailler slaps swingarm,(ziptie grips solve that), dirt is thrown directly at pivot points(ziptie custom plastic shorty fender to dogbone)
Similar Products Used:Proflex 855 w/Marzocchi MCR and Noleen NR4
Bike Setup:2002 RM7fr (without THE fender)
Bottom Line:This bike is sweet. I use it for all kinds of riding and blow most riders away. Very efficient pedaller with clipless pedals. No rear end play! Superplush. I bought out of Canada and saved $$ due to strong conversion ratio US/CAN. I was going to buy a Bullit but was glad I got the RM7 for much less money and time. The part spec is excellent and the bike looks bad.....

Strengths:BADASS bike. Stock parts are very good. Suspension is very plush, soaks up everything. It feels like you ride on air. Frame is strong as an tank.
Weaknesses:Are you serious? People say theres some play in the back swing arm, but thats just picky. Don't even worry about it. The stock tires are alittle on the thin side, but ride them till their dead and replace, no biggy
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:This ride kicks some serious ass. It doesn't climb well, but who cares. This bike can take some BIG hits and it begs for more. If you got the cash, buy it you will be happy, you'll want to ride all day.

Favorite Trail:Anything Urban!
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $3300.00
Purchased At:River Rat Mt. Bikes
Strengths:I've ridden just about everything. This Bike kicks ass! Nothing touches it! A very fluid ride. Top components, tons of travel, no lockouts, but who needs one? Just dampen the suspension with a simple turn of the dial on the rear. A great climber, for a 41 lb. bike. Frame is top notch, I sold my jet ski to buy this monster, no regrets... Great service came from the Folks @ River Rat... They really took care of me... Someone else above mentioned that this bike made him feel like a kid again. Now I know what he was talking about. You don't wake up in the morning, and question whether or not you want to ride. You ask yourself if you should call in sick to work... lol...!!!
Weaknesses:none so far...
Similar Products Used:Diamond Back, and Gary fisher...
Bike Setup:Swapped my "BashGuard" for a 3rd. ring... and switched to a "RaceFace" head-set...
Bottom Line:If you got the "bucks", the "wind", and the "wheels" to own one of these bikes... I suggest you pick one up! I ride mine every day... Love it! Think of it as an investment in your health. Best purchase I've ever made!

Favorite Trail:anything with dirt
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1700.00
Purchased At:Freedom cycle
Strengths:Smooth frame and shock! Tough frame construction! It holds up to a lot more that I can dish out!
Weaknesses:My frame came with a Vanilla R, instead of an RC, so I only get about 6.6" in the rear. Hit my a$$ on the rear tire on some stuff.
Similar Products Used:2001 Norco Team DH, 2000 RM6, 2001 Brodie 8-Ball
Bike Setup:2000 Monster T, Mavic 319 Disc Rims, Profile Splined BMX, Hayes 8/6", XTR/XT shifting, 8 Spd rear cog, Hayes rear hub, 2.7" Intense front, 2.35" IRC Kujo rear, RaceFace chainrings and some generic shiznat.
Bottom Line:This is a total Freerdie/downhill machine! The MOnster T really make it heavy, but it can take anything that you can throw at it. It's a crappy uphill rider, but the setup I use is near 40lbs. If you want this bike, switch the tires and rims to something bigger and you're set.

Submitted by Jeff a Downhiller from Vancouver (the place to be)
Date Reviewed: December 3, 2001
Favorite Trail:Any North Shore Trail
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Great Spec! No crappy bunk Sram on this rig. Jr.T and two chainrings make this bike VERY rideable. Virtually no bobbing when put the power down. PLUSH AS HELL !!!!!! The rear Suspension soaks it all up bay-beeeeee!
Weaknesses:Yah right. Maybe the skinny tyres..... I ditched those babys straight away. They're like a AA bra on Pamela Anderson! Also, Rhino Lytes dont belong on a bike of this caliber. They're pretty much toast already (2 weeks)
Similar Products Used:Nocro VPS, Kona Stab
Bike Setup:Stock set-up minus the pizza cutter tyres, they suck.
Bottom Line:This bike is the SHIZNIT!!!! I have never ridden a more confidence inspiring bike in my life! I can clean any section I could never ride before....now I just fly over the rough stuff, no problem. The Jr.T is beefy enuf to handle the big drops and light enuf to be somewhat moveable. Oh ya. The rear end has no sign of play. Rocky seemed to fix that problem this year with the new cartridge bearing kit. Still tight like the day I got it. This Bike gets an A+
