Bottom Line:
I do not have anything to compare this fork to but from what I have heard it can not compare to a more expensive one. Still it performs well after six years of riding. Never have done that much of any hardcore stuff but from what I was told this fork was a large upgrade from the one on the trek 4400 thru 4100. Never had had any need to justify upgrading the fork.

I love to read the reviews on things like this. Lets get a few things straight, in case they aren't clear (and by reading many of the previous reviews, they aren't): THIS IS NOT A FREERIDE FORK. THIS IS NOT A DH FORK. THIS IS A CHEAP FORK. Clear? Alright. Its a cheap fork, but it soaks up some nastiness, looks not too bad if you take the judy decals and boots off, and costs so little. You can't take massive drops with it, but why the hell would you? Does anyone understand the difference between freeride and cross country anymore?

THe fork came stock on my Hardrock Comp, and will be the first upgrade, besides the pedals. It is absolutely crappy for any kind of offroading. I weigh 150 lbs, and at lowest preload, there is 0 damping. The fork bounces around like a pogo stick. It is impossible to compress efficiently when bunnyhopping. But I have gotta give it props for being better than a rigid front fork. At least some bumps are eaten up. Next, I will probably aim for a MZ fork, or a Manitou.

Also it moves around significantly on flat ground useing up energy I would rather have propel me forward if you adjust it tight enough that it doesent do this it will compress quit a bit when you get on the bike but then almost none afterwards if you hit a bump.
So in short don't buy this thing

This fork isn't nearly as bad as some of the guys make it out. I sometimes hear a little rattling from the spring, but it certainly isn't distracting. This is strictly a first upgrade from the entry-level stuff. However, in that light, it works very well. Mine was a recall fix, and it has indeed been retrofitted. The difference over my one-year-old, 63mm fork was immense. I can now go much faster and roll over large obstacles that I wouldn't have even looked at before. The fork is well designed and made, and I will only be expecting a year's use out of it. Even so, for only $59, what have I got to lose? Actually, this new fork cost much less than my Rock Shox seatpost, and these two items really do work together to give me a surprisingly even ride, front to back. It seems to be a balanced suspension system now, and the little m50 is a transformed machine, and will take me where I want to go with confidence. I can't comment on the longevity of this item yet, but my RS seatpost has been going almost a year with absolutely NO maintenance, or even inspection, and it still works perfectly.

All the benefits of rigid forks without the weight advantage. Hmmmm. Will be OK for your first 12 months but then you will want a nice plush RS Duke or Marzocchi.

Bottom Line:
Compared to riding a rigid fork, certainly this is better. They are dirt cheap (I've seen them for $150.00 Cdn, at bike shops), and reasonably sturdy. They're isn't really anything much that can go wrong with them. If something does go wrong, you might as well upgrade.
The action on mine was getting a bit sticky, so I stripped it apart (very easy to do), and applied Judy Butter to the spring, and bushings. It helped quite a bit, but it needs to be done at least once a month if you ride on a regular basis.
Don't expect much out of them in cold weather; it's rather like riding a rigid fork.
If you do light cross country riding, and don't demand much from a fork, then they are fine. If they come stock on your bike, and you can't afford the upgrade, you should be okay. If you are buying a fork for the first time... well, if you can, save up for something better. I ride a Rock Shox SID 100 now, and the difference between that and the TT is like night and day. It turned my Warp into a new (and WAY better) bike.

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
Well, the old cliche comes out of the box again, "You get what you pay for." This is a good fork for the money, but many forks these days are improving and are in the same price bracket. It's good to see the new lowers for the 2003 range of Judy's as one of my complaints is to do with the stiffness of this area. Also the rate of spring tension is not progressive throughout its travel, and the friction damping is a little out-dated. To overcome this I have relubed the stanchions with Judy Butter and it seems to improve their performance somewhat, but you have to keep a maintenance regime as the effect wears off after a month or so (probably the lube starting to dry out). For value three of teh hot ones, but only three for overall, because anyone serious about MTBing will soon upgrade (I've got a set of Vanilla R Fox Forx on the way).

Still haven't bottomed out (I weigh 170), although I have it set a little stiff. I've been up to 40 mph on a dirt logging road and it was smooth and I felt in control. No maintinence yet.

I wish I had rebound adjust, but what do I expect for a fork you can buy new for $79?

Bottom Line:
I went from a rigid frame to full suspension. Wow, what a difference. I haven't caught much air with this shock (Maybe 12" on a good day) but it has been stiff enough to keep me from bottoming out, yet smooth on the roots and medium rocks. I was planning on upgrading the shock even before Supergo sent me the bike, but now I'm going to hold off and beat on this one until it starts to squeal. You guys said it makes noise; I'm still trying to get mine to say "Uncle." Come on, shock, you know I haven't maintained you...say it!

Bottom Line:
Since this fork came on my bike, I didn't have a choice, and don't feel like upgrading. It's the noisiest thing I've ever seen! My LBS called RockShox, and was told to buy some heat-shrink tubing and put it around the spring. Great customer/dealer support. That fixed most of it, but I don't understand why it has to make that dumb springy noise. Also, if you have one, check the allen bolts on the bottom of the dropouts; if they're gold, you're ok....otherwise, you're due for some recall work. Not a bad fork, it's fine for what I use it for, but get something better if you have more experience.

So far I love the shocks. I do a lot of riding on trails with roots, some small jumps and one or two 1-meter jumps, and I have never heard (literally) any complaints from it. I hear a lot of people complain about it in my area, but they are the people that consider 1 or 2 meter jumps "small." If you think the shox suck, it's probably because you're pushing them over their limits.....go buy a better fork. I personally did a LOT of research before I bought this bike (with the fork) and it paid off....it does exactly what I want it to do, and exceeds the expectations I had. I'll definitely upgrade in the future, but only when I start to push the bike beyond the limits of the components it now has.
shudders when you brake, doesnt absorb anything much over 1.3 meters

It's ok, works average on the jumps i build. It shudders when i use my front brake, so i'd consider it a little too "fexible". There isnt any damping, only adjustable sagging. Overall, good if you do light riding, but dont put too much stress on it like i do, so only get it if it comes on your bike.

Purchased At:

Strengths:
-Good solid feel -Not much flex -Doesn't bottom out easily -Low maintenance
Weaknesses:
-No damping -Preload dial hard to turn/too small -Sorta heavy
Bike Setup:
2001 Giant Iguana, full Deore dirvetrain
Bottom Line:
Good for general cross-country riding, although it is a bit springy due to the lack of any damping. Doesn't proform too well on drps bigger that 3-4ft. The preload adjuster knob is of OK diameter but is only about 2-3mm high which hurts your fingers after a while :-( But apart from that, it's a good cross-country fork.

If you got a reworked recall, everything is cool. Just do your routine shock maintenance and everything's great. If you got a unfixed recall, you could break some bones.
This shock came stock on my 2001 Raleigh M80. The shocks were the reworked recalls, so officially they were ok. But, I really don't feel comfortable in riding on something that was recalled and supposedly fixed, so I switched to a 2000 Manitou SRX for $149 at pricepoint.com. Nice shock for a recreational rider, but heavier or rough riders should change to a 10w oil, or higher. keep the tire side down!

Price for a Judy is good. Works well for the riding I do. Next bike will have an air shock.
Weaknesses:
The recall stigma and the weight.
Similar Products Used:
Manitou SX-R
Bottom Line:
A little better than average shock. Better than what I had. Low maintenance and the price was good enough so if it gets trashed I won't be heartbroken. Its a good shock for what it is supposed to be, namely better than an elastomer shock and not as good as an air shock.

This is a great product and gives a very smooth ride. It eats up the small bumps and performs even better on the big jumps. I haven't been able to bottom it out yet, although only weighing 65kg (143 pounds) does help.
All up an excellent shock for both price and performance.

Strengths:
Its very well priced for a judy, has some adjustability
Weaknesses:
Its the worst Judy ever, It was recalled due to very serious crash inducing failures The bottom of the fork would release from the top while airborne.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
This shok would have been a good one if the recall hadnt been needed. I had my lbs replace it with a 01 Judy XC.
All in all a very cheap judy in all respects.
Great beginner shock (way better than the jett) if the defect has been fixed.
I give it 4 for value because its such a small price tag for a judy. 2 overall because mine only lasted 3 months because of the recall.

Strengths:
Has a very plush feel, quite a bit of travel, smooths out rock gardens.
Weaknesses:
Weight, bottoms out on when jumped and airborne more than 3 feet.
Similar Products Used:
tried an RST and a jett
Bike Setup:
01 Trek 4900 with Avid arch rival 50 brakes, single digit 7 levers, '00 Manitou x-vert, Profile bar ends, sigma bc 600 bike computer and GT platform pedals.
Bottom Line:
This is an excellent fork for cross-country riding, I was very satisfied with it's plushness over rough terrain and its ability to absorb impacts from curbs and rock gardens. I was disapointed with it's performance on big hits, if you get more than 3 feet of air it just bottoms out, yes it can be eliminated by tightening up the preload but you have to tighten it to the point where it becomes harsh.
All in all great for XC riding but not racing due to it's weight and not for freeriders or people who like to jump their bikes due to it's propensity to bottom out on big hits.

It sure beats a rigid fork, and for the riding that I do it is all the plushness I need, as for my son........

This is a so/so shock, though I would prefer a Marzocchi if this shock is going to weigh this much. Bottom line, if you're happy with this fork, fine with me, other than that you can wreck it.
