Favorite Trail:Durham Forest
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:Silent Sports!
Strengths:Is a an excellent fork for any cross country rider who cant dish out all the dough. Dosnt adjust very much but it adjusts with ease, you can do it on the fly. although it isnt recommended, it'l still take the hits if ya wanna go a little nuts. I weigh about 145pounds and they've taken several 6 ft drops without any issues many a time. I've upgraded since then but theyre very reliable shocks.
Weaknesses:Nothing much. These shocks gave me way more than I asked for. Theyre a little squishy. And they have a bit of rebound and bounce to them but I loved em.

Bike Setup:2002 Thin Blue Line Rage. awesome bike!
Bottom Line:If you dont have the kind of money to go pro, and your looking for some good, quality forks that wont let you down and will soak up all the little bumps and humps on the trail. This is an excellent purchase. buy them now!! go!!!

Favorite Trail:Bring it on....
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Never had a problem.

Takes bumps, rocks, dirt, mud, rivers, trees without crying like a little girl.

They are easy to maintain and good for a beginner XC rider.
Weaknesses:They are too flexible. Looking down at my fork when stopping really hard makes me wonder if I'm gonna snap my fork in three pieces. But, they're not broken.
Similar Products Used:Marzocci, other Rock Shox Judys
Bike Setup:Specialized FSRxc
Bottom Line:Basically, I put my bike through as much hell as it (and I) can take. If it (or I) breaks it breaks.

These have gone through my constant abuse and bashing with very little maintenance (if any) for over a year now with no problems to date. It seems to be more reliable than the higher end Judys that I have tried and they don't make the same annoying clicking noise the XC develops...

If you want a Judy and don't wanna spend a lot of money, here it is.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Came with Bike
Strengths:Robust, takes bumps well. Easy to set up
Weaknesses:Can't adjust rebound, weight
Bike Setup:Schwinn Moab 1 Disc (UK Spec)
Bottom Line:Why do UK bikes always suffer when it comes to components. The US Moab 1 Disc comes with LX/XT(or XTR) and Judy XC's whereas the UK model comes with Deore/XT and Judy C's. The Orange colour goes really well with the paint job, but I don't see why we get downgraded.
Had initial problems with my forks "clicking" but turned out to be because the bike shop had set it to its max and was bottoming out all the time. Quick adjustment fixed the problem and now they are quiet as a mouse. Don't understand some of the comments from other users that they are noisy. Perhaps they just need to check the springs and oil. Ratings were given based on performance rather than the fact that Schwinn should have put better forks on the UK model

Strengths:They fit the job description
Weaknesses:Weight and appearance. I never noticed it at first but as my trail buddys kept pointing out - my bike looks great and the mango colour on the forks is well flash but as soon as you look at the bike head on the front brace is sooo huge it just looks ghastly. I've noticed a lot of the rock shox range has this brace and now that it's been pointed out to me soo much i cant live with it - shame cause the fork functions fine!
Similar Products Used:Manitou magnums, SX's, RST 381's, 281's Rock Shox Indy C's
Bike Setup:Schwinn Moab 1 Disc - Fork is no way good enough for the bike, I think US bike got judy XC's so why do us brits have to suffer with C's!!!
Bottom Line:Would suit a £600 bike nicely, but they are a bit heavy for my bike.

Favorite Trail:Ape Canyon
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:More plush than the bottom of the line Jett's or Manitou Magnums or RST. I rode two bikes at the shop before my purchase and bought this bike because I liked the fork better.
Weaknesses:Lack of adjustability. Only has easy preload adjusters. I wonder if they do much at all. Got 2,000 miles on it before the seals blew.
Similar Products Used:RST & No name crap
Bike Setup:99 Trek 6500, Judy C fork, Mavic 517's with Conti' Vertical Pro's, XT crank, LX brakes, LX rear Der., Specialized Body Geometry sport saddle, XTR Cassette,
Bottom Line:A very good fork if you are starting out. Worth the extra $ instead of going real cheap. Has coil springs and oil bath. Much better than your typical MCU and no oil setup on real low-end stuff. Have thrashed this fork hard. It only has 63mm travel and found that I needed more as I advanced. I will upgrade to either Psylo XC, SID XC, or Manitou sxr.

If you are going to do much downhill or free-riding - this ain't your fork. If you want to get by and do a race once in a while or ride local trails - this will do the trick - but plan to upgrade later. This won't be your last fork.

I gave it 5 dead cat's o' fire because it lasted 2,000 (about 2.5 years) miles without any maintenance other than oiling the sliders once in a while.

Date Reviewed: May 2, 2001
Favorite Trail:sideshow
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:It came stock on my Scott Comp Racing and for being my first suspension fork it was great. It is really SMOOTH. It also has enough travel to satisfy any xc rider/racer.
Weaknesses:Its way to heavy, thats why I am getting a SID XC. I raced it for one season in Norway and it was kind of slow. I also had to swap the stock springs to get the right performance. The ajustmant caps stopped working almost right away.
Similar Products Used:Headshock super, Sid, Judy XC
Bike Setup:Scott Comp Racing (99). Stock Lx/Xt, mavic rims. Flite ti saddle, roox dannys stem.
Bottom Line:This is really a good fork. It is very durable and smooth. The wieght is really the only problem. I raced on it for one season, thats fifteen races on the ultra tech Norwegian racing circiut. I did very well even with this fork.
If your new to the sport its a great buy, it won't let you down. You may have to play around with the weight of the oil and the springs though.
Like I said the weight is really the only weakness.
If I can race on it so can you, if your on a budget dont feel bad about racing this fork. Then you can beat all the guys on the ultra light sid bikes and think about how truely core you really are. Then when you finally do upgrade the fork you'll fly past then because your way stronger(having dragged the extra weight around for a while) Its the guy on the bike that counts (there are to many people that judge you by how tech your bike is thats just stupid)Some of my best moments have been when I've won over tech geeks on 20 pound ultra tech rigs on my 27 pound rocket!
So, go out and race and be as fast as you can be, even with a Judy C on the front end!!

Strengths:Nothing accept it is a relativley cheap fork.
Weaknesses:48mm of travel can be used for cross country but this fork is heavy(4lb).the sock caps are plastic so when you try to take them off you wreck them. The reason im buying a different shock is because if you go of a curb it doesnt even feel like you have front suspension.

Date Reviewed: October 4, 2000
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:It´s got plenty of travel, is pretty stiff and no stiction problems. Also it´s very easy to maintain.
Weaknesses:Slow slow slow rebound.
Heavier than most other forks. (no big problem, as I´d rather have a stiff working fork than a light cheesy one)
Coil spring broke.
Similar Products Used:RS Sid XC, Marzocchi Z2 Atom 80, RST281, RST381EL, Manitou Magnum R
Bike Setup:Scott comp racing, pretty much stock
Bottom Line:This fork seemed like a good one when it came on my bike. But it does a very poor job of keeping the front wheel on the ground, even though I have replaced the oil with thinner one.
Also the left leg coil spring broke 30 km into a 80 km ride, which left me without travel for the remainder of the ride. It got replaced no questions asked, and I guess it may just have been a defect spring, but that ride was a killer on my shoulders.
For the price it´s a reasonable buy, but I´d strongly suggest looking into invesing a bit more in a fork if it´s used for more than citybiking.

Bottom Line:Great fork if you can get around the weight, but that's a lot of weight to get around. Great for beginner or recreational rider, seems it would last forever(watch out for rust though). For anyone else in any way serious about riding it's definitely an ASAP upgrade. It really weighs down the front end of a bike. Favorite Trail:The loneliest, most desolate trail would be my favorite.
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Aah yes, very squishy.

Very little maintenance required.

Legs haven't flexed, as if the fork was rigid.

Absorbed medium and big hits well.
Weaknesses:Didn't absorb some vibrations, stutter b-b-bumps, and other small hits.
Similar Products Used:A flexy Manitou 3 from the days when elastomer forks and cantilevers were top-of-the-line, and 9-speeds were nowhere to be found.
Bike Setup:A mostly stock and lusty 6500. I almost want to sleep with it. It fits like a glove.
Bottom Line:
This fork, costing next to nothing, made my teeth chatter from some, but not all, of the hardpack's rocky vibrations. I assume the rebound was too slow for the high frequencies. Switching from a stiff, straight bar to a riser would probably take care of this small shortcoming.

It was very effective at absorbing medium and big hits. I found myself aiming for the rough sections to feel the fork's plushness and stiff legs.

The oil-coil inside, out-performing it's rival -- the air shock, would definitely be worth the weight penalty.

I would have to try out a SID or Marzocchi to experience better performance, but that would be unnecessary for only several miles of off-road commuting.

It meets all my needs, but I won't give it a perfect rating because there's no way it could be the perfect fork.

Bottom Line:This is a great fork, and anyone who says that it isn't should probably be looking for a fork that costs more money! The best part of the deal is the HydraCoil system, which honestly tracks the ground well and eats big hits with perfect damping, regardless of the temperature outside. For you guys having trouble with your boots, the easiest way to fully engage them is to tuck in the section you can see, and then to rotate the whole thing along the groove until you expose the part that was behind the brace. When the whole thing is tucked in, it'll stay that way.
The Judy also has a lot of travel, (why do you need more from a XC fork?) and those fat, robust legs. It's stiff enough, although sometimes when running over little bumps, you'll see your quick-release lever vibrating back and forth a bit. Anyway you only see it and don't feel it... the fork won't break apart on you. There's only one small thing; the preload caps are tough on your fingers, and are hard to turn, especially on cold days. And since everyone's talking about the weight thing, I'll add my opinion; the fork will only feel heavy when you bother your finger with the lifting of a Sid! But until you become completely spoiled and dreamy, the Judy C is fine. All in all, a great fork, with everything a trail-lover can ask for. Too bad RS didn't sell these off the shelves throughout the year; they would have made big bucks, I think.
(P.S: To give you an idea of how hyperactive the travel is, if you speed along a sidewalk and lean - carefully - over your handlebars, you'll see your brake-arch jumping up and down in response to the expansion lines along the concrete. Plush enough for you?)

Bottom Line:My first real off-road bike and this fork and a RS deluxe rear shock came stock. The boots kept popping loose until I fixed 'em with some automotive hose clamps. My fork got put together wrong at the factory and had no damper; was missing the glide-rings; was missing the shaft-guide retainers. If you have this fork, tear it down at least once before your warranty is up 'cause you could find the same thing. I'd give it a 4 if it weren't for the factory screw up.

I was actually looking forward to a lighter bike but my current rig weights in at around 27 pounds which is almost the same as my Trek 800. Anyway I am not worried about the weight. Bottom Line:

This fork came stock on my Joshua. Since I used to have an Indy C on my hardtail, this fork has been a huge performance improvement. The Hydracoil design is smooth, but not very adjustable. The adjustability isn't really that much of a problem, just take the time to get is set up right with the correct coil springs for your weight and the right oil viscocity... then you'll be set to go forever. Rock Shox claims that maintenace is every year, or evey 100 hours... I hope that's true, we'll see about that. This fork is heavy at almost 4.5 pounds! Alot of forks are heavy this year since everyone stopped using elastomers, even the Judy XC is around 4 pounds, and if you change the steel steerer on the Judy C to aluminum you can lose a little weight. This fork is reasonably stiff, and compression and rebound are good. It's a great fork for a budget rider looking to step up from an Indy or similar fork.I'm glad I'm reviewing this fork first, because soon all the weeny heads will hit this page and give the fork 1 chili for the weight. 4 chili's from me, because it works well and that's what matters most.
