Submitted by Curt a Cross Country Rider from Boise, Id, USA
    Date Reviewed: May 8, 2005
    Favorite Trail:trail 4
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Purchased At:Moo's cycles
Strengths:Had them for 6 years, never done any maintenance on them. They do what they're supposed to do. Very inexpensive.
    Weaknesses:No damping.
    Bike Setup:'99 Rocky Mountain Fusion
Bottom Line:First time I tried Mountain biking was with a rigid fork (A friends bike) I biked all day and I loved it, but when the ride was done my hands were very sore and my arms felt like they were vibrating for the next couple days. I knew I needed a suspension fork. I got an entry level Rocky Mountain because it was all I could afford and to my untrained eye it looked just as nice as the bikes with the huge price tags. The "cheap" Jett fork felt smooth as butter compared to the rigid experience. I thought I was rolling in style. Since then I love my bike more every time I ride it and I only replace parts when they wear out or break. The fork is one of the few remaining original parts, very durable. I'm an xc rider so I'm not too concerned with bottoming out the fork, although it has bottomed out at times when riding agressive. When this fork expires I'll most likely replace it with a SID or something like that so I can shave a pound or two off the weight of my bike. I'm only going 3 on Overall since it's the only suspension fork I've used and I have nothing to compare it to besides rigid.

    Date Reviewed: July 7, 2004
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $99.00
    Purchased At:Mail Order
Strengths:Doesn't Leak, good on mild terrain trails or street.
Weaknesses:Makes a squishing noise when it compresses.
I wish I could remember what I did with the owners manual, I'd change the oil, and experiment with different weight oils. Cheezy adjustment knobs.
Similar Products Used:None, these are the first and last suspension forks I would buy.
Bike Setup:Rockshox Jett on a hard tail.
    Bottom Line:Worth every cent.
    Four good years.
If these are the "El Cheapo" forks, I can only imagine what "Cosmic Dollar" are like.

Submitted by will a Downhiller from LUTZ, FL, USA
    Date Reviewed: January 5, 2004
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Purchased At:UBC bikes
Strengths:Duration. Pretty stiff for some reason.
Weaknesses:Bent steering tube, not a top notch fork.
Similar Products Used:Judy, BMX rigid forks
Bike Setup:Schwinn Mesa GSX, broke all but frame, LX, 2.3 tioga DH, profile monster bars, fat ass rims, LX creaker crank...
Bottom Line:This fork held up solid. I rode ramps, trails, down all the mean florida hills and it did fine. I am not some rich yuppie who wants to spend $500 on a damn fork so I wouldn't know how much these 'really' suck. I ride some mean stuff and they held up damn well. I hit all the Lutz trails on em but the Z-hills trails broke um. I cased the second double in a six pack and bent them b's out like chopper style. Well good luck richars...

    Favorite Trail:Art Sharp
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Purchased At:stock on bike
Strengths:Easy to maintain as I had just set it and forget about it. Durable (I rode almost every trail in Marquette other than the sick stunts and mean freerider stuff w/o a problem)
Weaknesses:63mm, heavy as hell, coil compression tends to bounce on fast downhill bumps
    Similar Products Used:2003 Duke xc
Bike Setup:99 GT backwoods frame, XT F/R Der, XT Crank, LX cassette, Bontrager ASYM wheelset
Bottom Line:Hey if you want to do 3+ foot drops this an't the fork, anything over 2m you should expect a XC fork to not hold up (hence freeride difference from XC). This was a great fork but an upgrade was due for the technical riding in da UP I do. I would have kept it if all I did was XC stuff.

Weaknesses:everything, bobs like crazy makes climbing a oain i the @$$, i will never try to go off a drop bigger than 5 feet cuz im scared that the fork will blow, its not adjustibul [i think] and eveything else that u can think is bad about a fork this one has it [What the hell was Rock Shock thinking?]

    Duration Product Used:2 Years

    eats up bumps well
    Weaknesses:BOBBING UP HILLS
    heavy
    no rebound dampening
Bike Setup:GT Backwoods with xt rear derailer and shifters ect
Bottom Line:this shock is very good for a beginning rider who likes to go out in the woods and ride. It is not good for a racer or serious rider, as although it can sufficiently absorb small to medium bumps it is not stiff enough and bobs even on the stiffest setting. This fork is not good for long distance or serious riding, but is ideal for the rider who needs something more than a rigid fork for offroad riding, but not much more

    Weaknesses:-rebound damping where are you?
    -boots lift up too easily

Similar Products Used:2000 judy xc, 2000 sid xc
Bike Setup:1999 gt backwoods, judy xc, lx, stx-rc, truvativ cranks, titec bars, avid brakes
Bottom Line:This is actually a great entry level fork. It works well on just about any type of trail, but you quickly learn that its biggest weakness is its huge rebound. if you hold your front end up and drop it, it will bounce back up into your hands!!! :( If you're a serious rider though, you might as well get a judy or sid. the jett is great for just recreational riding (like bike paths or gravel roads), but dont try to do big drops or anything with it. THIS IS A GREAT VALUE FOR A BEGINNER OR LIGHT RIDER! YOU WILL NOT REGRET BUYING THIS FORK AS LONG AS YOU DONT MIND UPGRADING IT WITHIN A YEAR OR TWO (if you are more serious).
just a note- i'm gonna throw the jett on my mx-3 in a couple months and try to beat the crap out of it, so i'll give an update later on how it's performing after some big stair gaps and roof drops ;)

For it's class this fork has very nice smooth travel, I changed out the light oil for 10 wt. which improved the feel and damping. I'm 185 lbs and have yet to realy notice bottoming out but I generaly stay away from drops over 3 feet. My only complaint is it is flexy on landings and holding lines on steep sidehills, but works great until I can save up for a Bomber!
