from Boise, Id, USA Date Reviewed: May 8, 2005 | | Favorite Trail: | trail 4 | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Purchased At: | Moo's cycles | | Strengths: | Had them for 6 years, never done any maintenance on them. They do what they're supposed to do. Very inexpensive. | | Weaknesses: | No damping. | | Bike Setup: | '99 Rocky Mountain Fusion | | Bottom Line: | First time I tried Mountain biking was with a rigid fork (A friends bike) I biked all day and I loved it, but when the ride was done my hands were very sore and my arms felt like they were vibrating for the next couple days. I knew I needed a suspension fork. I got an entry level Rocky Mountain because it was all I could afford and to my untrained eye it looked just as nice as the bikes with the huge price tags. The "cheap" Jett fork felt smooth as butter compared to the rigid experience. I thought I was rolling in style. Since then I love my bike more every time I ride it and I only replace parts when they wear out or break. The fork is one of the few remaining original parts, very durable. I'm an xc rider so I'm not too concerned with bottoming out the fork, although it has bottomed out at times when riding agressive. When this fork expires I'll most likely replace it with a SID or something like that so I can shave a pound or two off the weight of my bike. I'm only going 3 on Overall since it's the only suspension fork I've used and I have nothing to compare it to besides rigid. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Cheezy adjustment knobs. | | Similar Products Used: | None, these are the first and last suspension forks I would buy. | | Bike Setup: | Rockshox Jett on a hard tail. | | Bottom Line: | Worth every cent. I have had it almost 18 months, I've put it through daily commutes the whole time, I've had to change the oil twice, once for more compression damping the second for standard maintence. The travel is quality travel, I have only bottomed out on big hits and considering the stock medium spring are still in it and I way 275 says alot about the hydracoil damping adjustments.

Travel is rated at 75mm, but it seems more like 100mm. I've never bottomed this thing out..even with soft pre-load. Very smooth fork that takes a lot of punishment and keeps going. Takes the big as well as the small bumps with ease. A surprisingly good fork for the money. What I don't like is the annoying squawking sound it makes on the rebound stroke on the bigger hits ! This is a BIG drawback to me. WIthout the noise, I'd give it five flaming pickels..but three with the racket. | Overall Rating: |

Rebound kinda bouncy. | | Similar Products Used: | Manitou SX Ti, Judy XC, Marzocchi Z1 | | Bike Setup: | GT Ricochet, nice bike...with a different fork. | | Bottom Line: | If this had been my first supension fork , I may have been happy with the Jett. I got a good deal on the bike and thought I could live with the fork, but now I have my doubts. I may try heavier oil but it will still be flexy, maybe more so. The Jett is obviously designed to be a beginner fork and it works OK in that respect. | Overall Rating: |

Rock Shox cust. service | | Weaknesses: | None found yet | | Similar Products Used: | Crap model RST and a Zoke bomber | | Bike Setup: | GT RICOCHET, stock 99 model, | | Bottom Line: | I am just getting back into riding again. When I left the sport I was still rigid riding! Bought a used DB w/ RST lowend and it sucked. Tried my bro's Specialized w/ a Zoke and needed a new bike. Hence the GT. I am getting used to hammering a bike again and finally bottomed the Jett out three times today. Could be the break-in stiction freeing up but a crank on the knobs and I didn't bottom again. (Realize why rigids suck!) Will probably upgrade oil soon as I only weigh 150# but I rock and roll and think the knobs will only go so far. For the price I AM IN LOVE!!! | Overall Rating: |

from Helsinki, Finland, EU Date Reviewed: August 24, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Fast ones.. | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | Smooth, plush, not too heavy, affordable, good performance. Really great for funriding.. | | Weaknesses: | A little flexy. The original oil was way too light for me. With heavier oil it works wonders. | | Similar Products Used: | Mag 21 Quadra 5, Indy XC, Manitou Spyder R '99, Marzocchi Z1. | | Bike Setup: | GT Timberline '98 (Reynolds 525 tubing), Full LX except for STX RC Vs. | | Bottom Line: | It sure is great value fo money. The XC in the name isn't really appropriate, for it is much more a freeride/funride/all round fork. You want a XC fork, i advice you to buy something like a Mag21 or a SID. After the oil change it's still a little too sensitive in climbing, but that is the price you gotta pay for that Marzocchey plushness in freeriding and fast trails. So what do I say? I tell you: Go ahead and buy one, but if you weigh more than 65 kilos, you oughta change into heavier oils to prevent that damn irritating bottoming out in slow roots or rocks. And finally: Do not change the springs. Change the oil. By changing the springs you'll lose all that plushness and the sensitivity. Oil change will make it more progressive - great. | Overall Rating: |

from NYC Date Reviewed: April 3, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Excellent shock for the money. A great entry level fork. Low maintenance and are pretty plush. | | Weaknesses: | Could be stiffer but what do you expect for under $250. The springs are a little soft for my weight.(205lbs) | | Similar Products Used: | White Bros. DH Z2 Bomber Quadra 21R Indy XC Judy XC | | Bike Setup: | 97' Specialized A1 Azonic riser bar JETT XC | | Bottom Line: | For an inexpensive fork it is very good. If you are a beginner or on a tight budget this is the fork to buy. A big step up from those hard ass elastomers I had in my last shock. If you are into heavy XC, racing or have alot of cash to spend on a fork you should not be reading this review. I was on a Quadra 21R for a while and it felt like a rigid fork compared to the JETT XC. The bottom line is for the money you get a plush, spring loaded shock with a decent amount of travel. I got the fork, a headset, stem and a AZONIC DH bar for $300. The fork was about $150. Good performance, low maintenance, great price!!! 4 chilies | Overall Rating: |
