Purchased At:Hudson Trail Outfitters
Strengths:It's cheap, it gives 80MM of travel, it's low maintenance, has disc mounts. For some reason, this fork doesn't seem to bottom out harshly so you don't get jarred around. It is actually a nice aspect of the fork.
Weaknesses:no adjusments, not that smooth, rebound feels like a pogo stick,
Similar Products Used:Rockshox Jett, Judy TT, Marzocchi DJ2, Manitou Six, Marzocchi Z.1
Bike Setup:'03 Bullit with 5th element and shiver.
Bottom Line:You get what you paid for (if you paid anything). Just another budget fork for winter commuting. I got rid of this fork after 2 years because i became tired of it's rough and bouncy feel.

Strengths:Maintenance free (practically), 'cept some greese and a dust off every now and then. Strong, good for beginners and ever intermediates (come on, we ALL wish we were pro's but do we all NEED the BEST stuff).
Weaknesses:Looks crap, getting tired, needs upgrade (after 4 years though). Bottomed out for the first time the other day (on soft setting down stairs). No good for small bumps, feels like a stiff fork, until you hit a big bump.

Strengths:Decent travel (48 mm),for the price. Better than rigid forks. Good fork for beginners, fairly stiff. After two years of hard use they still work like new.
Weaknesses:Bottoms out easily over curbs and small jumps if you weigh 150 pounds or more. I realise these aren't your ideal downhill racing shocks but bottoming on a curb for the heavier riders?

Weaknesses:Very little travel

Bike Setup:Specialized HardRock, everything replaced except V-brakes, front shock, and handle bars/stem/headset.
Bottom Line:I've had this fork for a while and as you can see I've upgraded just about everything on my bike and still haven't upgraded the fork. I learned on this fork and it I don't feel its holding me back. I've seen people riding pretty knarly stuff on solid from forks, so I can hack it with this one.

Pretty much like everyone else said. Don't buy this as an upgrade, unless its really all you can afford. It is better than a solid fork and requires no maitenence. Fine for a beginner, or anyone really if you don't need loads of travel.

Bike Setup:Mongoose D60R (see my initial review in the mtb section, i'll update when i up grade shortly)
Bottom Line:I've been riding my mtb for about 3-4 months. I only weigh 240-150 pounds. If this is you, you're in luck. This fork came with my bike. Its fairly stiff, whichj is good. My year spring is too big at 750, which hurts the suspension/ feel. I endoed (as in flew over the handlebars) pretty hard it it didn't break. The hole was washed out due to the rain i was riding in and i wasnt paying attention. You get the picture. Great beginners fork.

Bottom Line:came with bike. it doesn't feel like you've got a front suspension at all 'till you hit a major obstacle. in the future, i'd look for something a bit more plush. if it comes stock and you're new to mtn biking, i would leave it as is until you actually realize what you want from a front suspension. if you're experienced, upgrade right away. overall, though, i'd have to say it's been working for me for two years, and will last 'till i get a new bike, i'm sure.

Bottom Line:I have no idea how people can say this thing has bottomed out on them if they are not downhill riders. I weigh 215lbs and have yet to bottom these things out, and this is on aggressive trails (of course the trails are in SC and FL and not CO). This is a good beginner’s shock. Stiff, cheap and strong enough to handle all those crashes that you must go through to get better. Would not buy this as an upgrade, but lighten up, people that still ride on these are not going for the gold in the Downhill Invitational.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $25.00
Strengths:Cheap, requires little maintenance, looks okay.....
Weaknesses:Way too stiff, not enough travel, catastrophe only suspension.
Similar Products Used:Indy C, Judy SL, Judy DH, Judy XC, Quadra 5, Quadra 21r, Marzochi Bomber z5, etc.
Bottom Line:I've tried a lot of forks over the years and to be honest, the Jett is better than some but far worse than most. Including the ancient RS Quadra 21r. This thing is strictly entry level. It's travel is too limited, and the technology is just too primitive compared to other shocks out there now. But, even so if you bought a bike that came with it then it will be better than nothing at all.

I think that it's too easy to trash this fork. It has its moments. If you're just starting out in the wacky world of trail riding the Jett is a good introduction provided it comes with a bike. It won't do much unless you hit a major bump then it will come alive like a frickin pogo stick! Forget it as a stand alone purchase. An upgrade this is not.

Strengths:Fairly smooth

Weaknesses:bit of flex
just too soft for just 63mm travel
Similar Products Used:DuoTrack 7007s, RS Judy

Bottom Line:This is a good shock for the price. It's smooth, and it's
great for comfortable riding along roads and easy paths.
Take it off road and you'll probably bottom it out, because
even at it's stiffest, it's just too soft for 63mm. It's
durable though, it's survived it's first summer of hard
off roading and 1 car accident. Just a couple of scratches.
This is the best shock I've had ever, but I'm just to rough

Favorite Trail:flagstaff to sedona
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:came spec'd with bike
Strengths:well, i wouldnt rate the performance as top notch, but it was durable. i put about 1,000 miles on it since may, and it's taken some abuse at least. it hasn't cracked, the steerer is still striaght, so honestly can't complain there.
Weaknesses:okay, this really subjective, as this is such a low end fork. performance wise, it seems to have more travel back and forth (flex to the rear then front) than up and down slider travel, at least on the small stuff. on bigger hits, it is very firm, but does take the edge off somewhat. you can, and will bottom this fork if you go wild on, and you will know when it bottoms (so will everyone in a 50 yard radius!). but bottoming the fork is actually kinda difficult. tracking is so - so, since it bounces so much front to back, following a line can be tricky until you get used to the fork. but use the fork long enough, and you will get used to it. if you are a halfway smooth rider, it can even "survive" some pretty good drops as well, but i wouldn't get comfortable doing that with these.
Similar Products Used:manitou 1's (very similar, but more tunable than the jett),
manitou magnums (feels like marshemellows compared to the jett)
and rigid (very similar to the jett as well, with a little less flex).
Bike Setup:wall mart mongoose d-60r (dont lay judgement just yet, there was a reason!) frame, stem, and front deraileur.
weinmann bontrager rims, michelen widegripper tires, tioga revolver cranks, shimano dx pedals, titex riser bar/mongoose stem, shimano dx short cage rear dearaileur,
crappy stock brakes, xt shifters, manitou magnum forks...
Bottom Line:initially, i wanted to slam these forks, but after thinking about it... it they come on your bike, make do until you can afford to upgrade, but by all means upgrade to something. the jetts will hang out and work until you do.
i wouldn't go out and purchase these as an upgrade from rigid forks, spend a little more and get some judy's or bombers, or magnums at least, it's well worth it. not a performance fork, but gets the job done if it's all you got.
my rating is more slanted towards durability than performance...and value? for the money, agian, go with a bit more expensive fork, you almost won't believe the difference (from any brand).

Strengths:Exactly what starters need. It smoothes out the bumps and you get no vibration from the front. (Just like every other suspension fork out there). Pretty durable. This baby won't bottom out very easily.
Weaknesses:Very tight. Doesn't go down that easliy, hence the no-bottoming-out. The preload adjuster thingies do nothing noticeable.
Similar Products Used:regular fork. (I've compared it to SR Suntour, Manitou Magnum, and '01 Jett.)
Bike Setup:'99 Gt Timberline, Specialized BG Saddle, other stuff....
Bottom Line:A good, inexpensive fork for people going from no shocks, but I would recommend the newer Jett models over this. Get this if you weigh alot, though, 'cause it's stiff.

I'm about to replace it with '01 Rockshox Judy C.

Rockshox is a very high quality, durable company, so get a newer Jett model if you want somethig to absorb the shock of that street curb or take the bumps out of the trail.

I suppose everyone has to start somewhere but I recommend something a bit beefier to enspire confidence. Bike Setup:16" Nishiki Colorado, full LX
Bottom Line:This fork worked fine for what i used it for. It was ridden exclusively on roads and therefore i didn't really need the travel. I took one of the elastomer stacks out because the bike is too small and has no use but to fool around with. This gave significantly more travel and a plusher ride, but it bottoms out, so i wouldn't pull the stack out unless you don't plan to ride the bike. It's a decent fork and suited me well for its use, but for anyone considering any real trail riding look elsewhere. Strengths:Always comes back for more abuse
Weaknesses:bottoms out crazy
a little heavy
very little travel(43mm)
Similar Products Used:RST 281r/ RST 281/ RS Judy xc/ 2001 RS Jett c
Bike Setup:Specialized Hardrock
Bottom Line:I weigh 117 pounds and I could bottom out the shocks on hardest setting and thats pretty sad. I bottomed out just going of a 2 foot jump! what up with that? I think this is the worst pair of shock u could have for travel it feels like u only get 43mm out of it. Not plush at all compared to judy's. Not a big problem but it freezes up on the cold weather sometimes. I recommend this shock to any one who is looking for shocks that u can depend on time after time, people that don't ride hard, people that weigh less than 100 pounds! Absolutely no downhillers' shocks

Strengths:strong very cheap
Weaknesses:heavy, no travel, (you get what you paid for)
Bike Setup:I have a Santa Cruz Bullit now
Bottom Line:I learned how to ride basically with this fork. I took it on stuff my friends did with their Judy's and Marzocchis. It never broke, bent, or cracked. I broke my crank my frame my deraillers my chain and my swingarm on my Y3. The Jett is the ONLY thing that has lasted. In the end I think that this fork is exactly what you pay for so I didn't expect much from it. I give it a 5 value wise and a 2 for being so damn unbreakable

Strengths:Very low maintenance. Great for a rookie, or light weight kids.
Weaknesses:It dosent really work for big guys.
Similar Products Used:rock shox judy xc and the sid
Bottom Line:Dont buy this shock if you intend on racing, jumping, or doing anything other than looking at it. I weight 200 pounds and this little puppy bottoms out over curbs let alone 3 foot drops. However i will say it is better than nothing, but not much. This shock should get 63mm of travel but after a year of abuse i can hardly get it to move. Get something with springs and not the elastomers. It is a good shock to get started with though.

Strengths:Durable, cheap
Weaknesses:Little flexy, heavy, not much travel
Bike Setup:mongoose hardtall, michelin wildgrippers
Bottom Line:this shock came on my bike. I have never bottomed it out, it seems really stiff to me(i think the springs are not right for my weight). I dont think i have gotten half the travel out if this fork. The little knob on top lets you have a little adjustment, and is something you dont find on other forks at this price. I have never had to worry about this fork, it is pertty low matience. If you are looking for a low end mt bike get one with a Jett(insteed of a other crappy fork, ex, balistic, RTS). My friend had a balistic fork, and the crown snapped while he was riding, but my Jett is still going strong. I wouldn't recomond buying a Jett C as an aftermarket fork, save up some more and get something better.

Hey AL i dont think you are supposed to immerse the fork in water, or smell it;-)

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:As part of a bike from Cycle king in Chelmsford
Strengths:It's fairly light
Weaknesses:Lack of travel. Twists to easly (stiffness), Corrdoing despite good care, Is like a heavy rigid fork in the winter.
Similar Products Used:None it's my first suspension fork
Bike Setup:Haro escape with cool upgradeslike better tyres, better saddle, new bottom bracket(LX) Acera group set (being replaced soon)
Bottom Line:Don't buy one. Theres no point you can get Marzoochi forks like the Z5 which are so much better for very little money about £100 if youlook about. It's not even good for light weight riders. I'm only 5'6" and nice and light

The forks aren't even any good for a recreational rider. They dont absorb road shocks let alone off road shocks. The forks on my mates £100 BIKE are plusher and work better.

There not even that good value. I've seen them for about £50 in sales but would rather a set of Kona P2 forks

Strengths:Cheap price.
Weaknesses:This is the worst front suspension fork I have ever used. The travel length (48 mm) is pitiful. I bought a used Specialized Hardrock FS Comp and this was the fork that came with the bike. It should be on the shelf at the local Wal-Mart for around 50 bucks. Hey, that just happens to be the price they are selling for on Ebay. If you want to upgrade from a non-suspension bike, go ahead and spend the extra money on a decent product. You will either shell out a little more cash now, or shell out a little more cash after a month of riding. Save yourself the trouble. I have a Fisher Marlin with a Rock Shox Jett 00 fork on it and it is grossly improved. The travel is, I believe, about 63mm on the Jett 00.
Similar Products Used:Rock Shox Jett 00
Bike Setup:Specialized Hardrock Comp FS ('98), stock except for new seat, grips, and a suspension seatpost.
Bottom Line:Spend a little extra and get a decent fork. This is a classic case of getting what you pay for.

Strengths:nada
Weaknesses:weight (4 lbs.), performance, stiction, lack of travel, poor performance
Bike Setup:99 Fisher Marlin
Bottom Line:Man, you people are sure easy to please. I'll bet there are people out there with 35 pound huffies that say things like "it's soooo lightweight," "it takes so much abuse," or my favorite "this is the best on the market." Get real people. Just because you got conned into buying junk, you don't have to defend your ego by encouraging everyone else to do it too. If there is a bottom point to the rating system, this should be it, but it's not. This is the cheapest fork in the world and you think it's the greatest discovery you've ever made. Guess what everyone - you get what you pay for. Now let me describe my junk.

99 Jett on a Gary Fisher. When I hammer the pedals, it bobs up front, which limits my control of the bike (I weigh 185). When I hit a bump however, the stiction is so bad that the full force goes to the handlebar and the fork finally catches up on the way down. When I hit a big bump/jump, the fork springs back unpredictably and I've had dirt dinners on many occasions because of this.

On top of this, the flex in the fork makes me nervous and limits my control of the bike even more. I can look down as I ride and watch it flex back and forth as I hit bumps. Upon application of the brakes, it flexes apart. Overall, this fork has made a fine aluminum bike handle like a wal mart special.

Go ahead and waste $50 on this toy fork if you must, but your credit card interest is likely to be less than that. What do I mean by that? It means that 6 mos. down the road, you'll be buying a real fork anyway. Just buy the real fork now and have a great bike during those 6 mos. Above all, don't screw other people over by telling them that the Jett is a good fork. It only makes you look silly.
