Cheap, can handle light trails, better than other makers at the same pricepoint. Best for your kid's bike.
Weaknesses:
Obviously, this cannot handle even moderate trail use, and jumping is out of the question.
Similar Products Used:
RST Wal-mart junk
Bike Setup:
This came stock on the Specialized Hardrock I had back in 2001. Mostly no-name parts as expected on a $300 bike from your LBS.
Bottom Line:
Look folks, those of you giving this fork zero chilis are clearly missing the point.
This is a beginner's fork. It's $60. Of course it has no travel/suspention/rebound adjust or lockout. Of course it's flexy, it isn't meant for your 250lb fat ass. If you want that stuff, you'll have to spend more. The Jett was meant to compete with (and be better than) all the low-end RST junk from Wal-mart. When I had this, I was 150 lbs and the fork never bottomed out, not once. I rode light trails with no drops and used it to commute around town. I was very happy with it then. When I made the jump to more aggressive riding , I bought more appropriate equipment. You folks saying "The Jett sucks! Buy a ($700 fork)!" ... you're crazy. RockShox's current J series replaces the Jett/Judy lines and each fork in the series has progressively better specs for around $50 for each upgrade. So to balance out the zero chili guys, I'm giving this fork 4 chilis.

This forks are crap, don't bother wasting your money on these. These might be alright if you're learning to ride harder, but once you graduate from the road you'll need something that doesn't crumble. I gave these forks to my friend and on the first day riding he smashed the innards and seized them up. If your kind of riding involves more then just pedaling, then don't buy these. Terrible fork.

Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
I wasn't expecting much from an OEM part, and I wasn't surprised. I guess it's been fairly low maintenance, which is good. It also soaks up small stuff well due to the soft spring rate. However, it is so mushy and flexy, it's mostly useless. I guess it's ok for bike paths and around town, but on the trail it bottoms out way too easily. Basically, the harder you ride it, the scarier it gets. Probably ok for someone under 100 lbs, or a bikepath, but useless in the woods.

Im guessing that in a year or so I might upgrade to a leftover 2002 shock which should be fairly cheap. It allows a very plush and comfortable ride. Moreover, I haven´t yet experienced that it bottoms out because I am a rather light rider (140 pounds). Also, you can adjust the preloader to prevent powerloss while riding uphill. And my Jett - mounted on my stock stevens mountainbike - is a black one, therefore, it has a nice look and fits my silver/black colored bike very well. Travel is totally sufficient for XC/CC weekend rides. For racing purposes it is too heavy.
Weaknesses:

With Aggressor II Bike, Bikecology, Torrence, CA
Strengths:
Low price and they work decently for an intermediate or fitness rider. The price above is not accurate since they came with the bike.
Weaknesses:
The 2001 Rock Shox were RECALLED. For more info go to the following web site: http://www.rockshox.com/recall/recall_info.htm
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
Standard GT Aggressor 2.0
Bottom Line:
These are intermediate shocks and not for extreme use. If purchasing the shock or a bike with this shock make sure you have a safe fork and do not purchase a recalled version. The bike shops don't seem to know that this fork was recalled and I was never notified. See Rock Shox web site:

Strengths:
Pebbles dont seem to bother it.
Weaknesses:
Wont take any abuse at all,and by abuse I mean riding off a 3" sidwalk. Had the thing 3 weeks and its junk never got it in the logging roads or off pavement. had to be rebuilt after 3 weeks.
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
If u ride pavment only(make sure there are no potholes) This shock will smooth out small bumps. I have had my bike 3 weeks and ride on the road and sidewalks andthe travel adjust would not work anymore(had it set at stifest rebound and then backed off one turn) and bottomed out just pedaling hard. The shop I bought it at had to Rebuilt and replaced the springs. wotrking ok now but riding very carefully till Judy SLs arrive. They would be a good shock for road riding and very smooth trails. cant understand why they would put this shock on a midgrade Mountain bike and expect it to hold up. I rate it a 2 for overall for mountain bike use. and a 3.5 for Value because YOU GET WHAT U PAY FOR!! Spend the cash and buy a real shock!!

Strengths:
Very plush and soaks up small to med hits
Weaknesses:
A bit on the heavy side but what do you expect from an entry level fork?
Bottom Line:
I don't see why everyone is bashing this fork! It's an entry level fork that was designed for beginners and sunday drivers. I've been reading reviews where people are comparing this fork to a psyco fork and then saying its crap in comparison! You get what you pay for and if you're just starting out, you're getting a good fork.. If you buy this fork and expect to ride off 5ft drops and expect it not to bottom out, who is the idiot here?

Very plush ride, definitely better than no shox at all.
Weaknesses:
Bottoms out A LOT, not enough travel.

Bike Setup:
Standard
Bottom Line:
This is a great suspension for non-hardcore mountain bikers. It provides for a very soft ride up front, but beware that it bottoms out on drop-offs, jumps, curbs, etc. But for those who just like going on paved or dirt/offroad trails, it will be a great feature for your bike. I personally am very pleased with the R.S. Jett '01 suspension on my bike, and honestly see no reason to upgrade to a more expensive suspension.

Strengths:
Plush, eats up the bumps nicely.
Weaknesses:
Low travel. Not as sturdy as a higher priced shock.
Bike Setup:
2001 Kona Nunu. Stock. Have added cheap bar ends.
Bottom Line:
It seems like quite a few of the people that rate the various products on this web site forget that some products are going to be made cheaper than others, they are going to cost quite a bit different, and they will perform differently because of that. A set up of a Jett will be different than a Sid, as will the quality. I am rating this shock based on the cost and type of shock it is. I am NOT rating it to compare it against a Bomber or a higher level Rock Shox.
I give this shock a 5 for value and a 4 for overall rating. I think that what you pay for this shock, is what you should expect out of this price range. The shock performs exactly the way it is expected to. I have bottomed out on this shock and I expect that. If I wanted a shock that had more travel and was overall a better quality shock, I would have payed an extra $200 (Canadian) to upgrade to a Bomber Z5, but I didn't have that kind of money at the time. I am happy with what came on my bike, and when I have the money to upgrade, I will.

Strengths:
This shock ,when the preload is dialed out is very plush however it will bottom out on most drop offs. This can be remedied by adjusting the preload but you will loose the plush ride
Weaknesses:
It does bottom out sometimes and I can feel some flex but I tried a Judy and it also had flex.

Strengths:
I think this is a great shock for the money. I do a lot of jumping and pretty rough off- roading and it works good. It does bottom out more than I like but Ill upgrade later.
Weaknesses:
It feels a little heavy but not too bad. It does bottom out on extreme dropoffs. I weigh 180 pounds so this would be a great shock for a light rider.
Similar Products Used:
The old air/oil Rock Shox magnesium. I did not like these at all. The seal blew numerous times.
Bike Setup:
GT Aggressor. These came with my bike and I feel fortunate to get a good shock for the reasonable price I payed.
Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a good shock at a good price, this is it. If you are doing serious off-roading get a higher quality shock.

Strengths:
Great entry level shock. Came stock on my bike. Perfect for riding tame trails and bike paths. Adjustable preload a definite plus.
Weaknesses:
The shock is a little soft for heavy riders. Definately not for big drops. So far I've been unable to find upgrades for a firmer ride.
Similar Products Used:
Rock shox Judy TT, and Jett C
Bike Setup:
2001 Giant Yukon SE. Stock with the exception of a Rock shox suspension seat post and gel saddle.
Bottom Line:
This shock came stock on my new bike. This is a great entry level shock! I don't really ride hard but this product definately steps up when it's needed. It allows for a smooth ride and is rather inexpensive for it's quality. If you want to do some light XC riding or stick to the bike paths then this product is sweet.

Bottom Line:
Don't get it. All I do is top out all the time. I'm s big guy, but you can't even get an upgrade for it, and now I'm stuck with an old fork no one even wants to buy from me. Maybe get it for commuting so bumps aren't so bad on the road. But don't try to drop any ledges, unless you want carpal tunnel.
