Must be indestructible because its been used for 8 years. I think its light, although thats compared to my other forks | | Weaknesses: | Only for v brakes. Has bottomed out a few times off of jumps and drops. | | Similar Products Used: | Marrzocchi z.1 sport and dj3 | | Bike Setup: | This fork was on my Diamondback voyager 2, which was pretty much my first mtb even tho the frame was more of a hybrid. Its now on my brothers motiv rockpoint (from sams club, but has yet to break) | | Bottom Line: | If you want a cheap, strong xc fork that practically needs no maintenance this will do the job. $100.00 | | Purchased At: | supergo | | Strengths: | This product is the best fork I have ever ridden on. I considered many other forks before i came to the final decision of the indy s. It makes no difference to me that only one side of the fork has a shock in it. I contemplated for a while, then soon realised that my Monster t's had to go, and i strapped this baby onto my brand new 2000 RM9 team issue. | | Weaknesses: | ABSOLUTELY NONE | | Similar Products Used: | Monster T, x-vert carbon DH, Boxxer, ZZYZX, JR.T | | Bike Setup: | full SRAM 9.0 and race face Dh stuff. Fox rear shock 9" travel, Indy S up front to eat the 8 foot drops of northshore and DH | | Bottom Line: | This fork is amazing. The single spring eats the bumps like nothing ive ever felt. This fork comes out of the box ready to be bolted onto your threaded headset of your brand new DH bike. You save approximatelu 0.93 pounds off the stock Monster T, which makes the biggest difference in climbing to the start of the DH course. This product is a bit pricy, but the serious downhiller should definately check it out. Forks like the Monster T and x=vert carbon are made a mockery of when this fork is put to its maximum potential, which can be scary. The bottom line is that this fork rules, and although you might pay alot for it, trade in the Monster T and get yourself a real fork. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Sydney, Australia Date Reviewed: May 5, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Cheap, basic suspension for occasional riders, low maintence (a few drops of oil now and then), fool proof (a disclaimer is necessary for the exceptional fool) | | Weaknesses: | Short travel (48mm), no dampening, very difficult to upgrade | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | Trek with suspension seatpost, (now)75mm Englunds | | Bottom Line: | After about 3 months I could use the upgrade, until then my cardi-respitory system was the limiting factor.
Did some research and found out about the Englund air cartidges. Also that all the Indys were basically the same. I obtained some long travel rods for free (the increase in the travel is about 13mm). I knew from the drawings I reviewed that there was a 13mm spacer in the bottom of the Indy S fork that reduced travel, what I didn't know was that it is put into the fork BEFORE the bushings are pressed on.
I had to manufacture a special tool by grinding down a hacksaw blade so that I could cut out the spacer apart and slip the pieces past the bushing without nicking the surface. It took 4 hours! I got the spacers out without nicking the bushing in either leg.
I now have 75mm air forks that work like magic. This (Indy S)is not a modification for the novice. However, there are plenty of used Indy C forks lying around that could be upgraded easily and the result is the best value for money upgrade you could make.
See my reference in the Englund Product Review for tuning tips. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

No adjustability at all (The 'preload' are fake) | | Similar Products Used: | '99 Marzocchi Z1 Alloy '99 Marzocchi Mr T | | Bike Setup: | Raleigh Canada Hardtail | | Bottom Line: | You'd be better off with a rigid fork. Rock Shox made this fork to 'look' like a suspension fork, but it is not. The internals consit of one big long MCU in one of the legs. It's sad that brand new this fork was selling for $150CAN (mine came with the bike). I weigh 135lbs and was bottoming this fork on the smallest hits, it really isn't meant for any serious riding and should only be speced on a department store children's bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Great for my commute to work, soaks up the big hits. not bad looking | | Weaknesses: | not enough travel. not plush enough for washboard or little obstacles
| | Similar Products Used: | SR MG80 | | Bike Setup: | GT Zaskar LE | | Bottom Line: | I originally came with GT Backwoods but then later moved to my Zaskar. It took a while to break in, (felt like a rigid fork and initially had alot of stiction) but after 1.5 years, it has held up beautifully. The Indy S is a bit flexy on big hits and dives a little under braking. I've found if I crank the preload all the way up when I commute to work during the week, it acts like a rigid fork for the uphills but still takes the sting off the big bumps. The only complaints I have is when it's offroad, the minor amount of travel causes it to bottom out quite a bit and when its cold outside, it's like not having a suspension fork at all. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It gives everything I'd ever want in a fork. It smooths out small stuff, and absorbs the big hits. It's not too heavy, but heavier than an Indy. It's also more expensive. I was drawn into the notion that I needed a better fork than my Indy. I kept raising the standard of what I wanted, from the Indy XC all the way up to a Judy DH. I spent $160 for a 80 mm dual dampened fork. All those extras... not needed. Just stick to what works, and don't let others negatively influence you.
