Bottom Line:Great ive been to whisteler with this bike. has great suspension ive tried fox 40's and they dont come close to this fork. Its such a great fork. i have a fox float in the back on my trek 3700.

Favorite Trail:Oak Cliff Nature Preserve
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:came with bike
Strengths:price, no maintenance, light.
Weaknesses:spongey
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Deore LX, Avid V brakes
Bottom Line:They work fine for me, certainly better than a stiff fork. I have had my bike for about 10 years, and I don't take very good care of it. I have never done anything for the shocks. But I don't ride in much mud or water. I haven't used anything else, I think they are fine for a light weight, average ability rider...I am 5'8" and 135 lbs. I rarely bottom out, I am not an extreme rider but I take 2ft. drops all the time. I can see how some larger riders (most guys) would not do well with these, and to be honest, I am looking for an upgrade.

Submitted by Bo Jangles a Weekend Warrior from Flagstaff, AZ
Date Reviewed: October 2, 2004
Favorite Trail:Mt. Elden
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Play it Again
Strengths:Smooths curb drop-offs and staircases, looks elite next to rigid or walmart forks
Weaknesses:no progression, not enough travel, rubber pogo stick, flexey, sticky boots, does not absorb small bumps at all, bottoms out on big bumps
Similar Products Used:old GT Timberline Rigid fork
Bike Setup:'97 Trek 970, XT stuff, toe clips, Tektro Quartz v-brakes
Bottom Line:This fork is awesome in the parking lot on my initial test drive of the bike, but this is not surprising since it is my first suspension fork I have taken off-road. It makes descending staircases easier than my rigid fork, and it seems to have the right damping to soften landing from a curb. Taken onto a rocky descent, however, it is scarcely less hard on my wrists than my old rigid fork. Do not buy this for any reason unless you never ride over roots or rocks.

Favorite Trail:Schaeffer Farms (in Gaithersburg, MD)
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $175.00
Purchased At:Bike swap @ shop on Grubb road
Strengths:It's great so far.
Weaknesses:The boots stick. I can't find any diagrams of the workings. The Rockshox website denies the fact that they ever made an Indy. (look for yourself. It's nowhere to be found.)
Similar Products Used:I test rode a C-dale Jekyll with the awesome LEFTY HEADSHOCK! I love the Lefty.
Bike Setup:Trek 850, maybe '95. Indy C (of course) fork. Shimano components. Zefal Flamingo rear fender.
Bottom Line:pretty good if you're my weight (180 lbs.) and are a novice rider with aspirations of becoming a legend DH and/or XC racer. Save for a new Cannondale, but have fun with your current bike. Happy trails!!

Favorite Trail:boogyman
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:came on the bike
Strengths:cheap, low maintenace, some adustability.
Weaknesses:week, not enough adjustability, coldent get the boots to stay on the seals. can,t fit large tires.
Similar Products Used:97 judy xc(they were still good back then), bomber Z1,
Bike Setup:first the were on a prototype that was given to me to try, then i transferd them to a cannondale caad 3 as a substitute fork.
Bottom Line:they are what you would expect for a shock of that price, little travel, little adustment, not good for drops at all, I went off of a 2' drop and the wheel landed in a small hole, it bent the shock back into the frame, split the arch in half and sent me over the handelbars. I landed on my head with a large crack and rolled out of it, as a true rider I looked at my bike and got angry at the fact that I had broken my forks. only after i had gotton over the the agony of a boken fork did i relize there was a sharp peice of bone protudeing from my shoulder. i decided i should go to the hospital, good thing I was wearing my helmet! mmmmmmm morphine! well in any case if you live in BC and ride anything resembling the north shore or woodlot dont get these forks they WILL NOT hold up. for all you cross county riders and weekend warriors whose trails dont consist of boulder strewn and root filled descents, log rides, and 2'+ hucks and wickedly steep single track, these forks will be fine for you . NO NORTH SHORE FOR YOU!

Submitted by Jeff a Cross Country Rider from Longmont, CO
Date Reviewed: May 12, 2002
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Cheap, good feel, low maintenance
Weaknesses:flexy, cheap shock boots
Bike Setup:Came with Specialized Rockhopper ('98)
Bottom Line:A good entry level shock. Some adjustability by changing springs or elastomers, and dialing-in compression. Don't buy it and expect it to take big hits or whine about no adjustability, if you do you should've bought a higher level shock in the first place. I've bottomed it a few times with no ill effects. The shock boots were the only bad part, they never seemed to seal properly, leading to grit between them and the shock tube. Still, a good budget shock for your first bike.

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:performance
Strengths:it has lasted 3 years, and i dont really care what everyone else says about the fork, i take it off of four footers on a weekly basis and aside of bottoming out, (not nessecarily a bad thing) i have had no issues other then flex.
Weaknesses:flexxy, and it is not adjustable.
Similar Products Used:jett shox are similar, but most shox do ride better.
Bike Setup:mongoose nx 7.1 all lx, judy race on the front.
Bottom Line:this came with my bike, and it learned how to ride with me. until just recently i used it daily and the shock did just fine. i wont say anything really bad about the shock, cuase it does its job.

Favorite Trail:single track to north shore
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:With bike
Strengths:a good beginner fork (unless your josh bender, 20FT drop first year, ARGE) 3-4 Ft drop not uncommon. lasted 2 years, then (please refer to weaknesses)
Weaknesses:this skinney little fork rusted out on me, the booties trapped water and the stantions rusted by the end of the 2 yeat i had about 1- 1.5 inches of traval. I bottomed out so hard my wristst hurt. No ajustibility. suck.
Similar Products Used:marz '01 z4 air
Bike Setup:'01 norco nitro, xt rear, sun rims, panaracer firexcpro, formula front disc avid 3.0 rear, deore cranks, no name water bottle holder.
Bottom Line:they did there job lasted me long enough to save for another bike, they took some good hits and rocks.

Date Reviewed: November 16, 2001
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $150.00
Strengths:Cheap, better than a Jett
Weaknesses:Strictly low budget, pogos up and down like Britney Spears breasts, sproinnnngggg! Good for Britney, not for a fork.
Similar Products Used:low end and high end RS and Marzocchi
Bike Setup:Forks came with my GT Backwoods 98.
Bottom Line:These things are actually better than the disaster called the Jett. Stiffer, a little bit more responsive and a little less flex. But let's be blunt. This is entry level, period. Unless they came with a bike don't bother. Want decent damping? A little adjustability? Forget it. If you can get them used for a second bike for around 20 or 30 bucks than these might be worth the trouble, otherwise get a bomber.

Date Reviewed: September 28, 2001
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:local Giant
Strengths:durable, stiff, Rockshox decal
Weaknesses:a bit flex after 3 years abuse, not so comfortable, a bit heavy, no long enough travel
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:bridgestone hardtail, xt-xtr, indy c
Bottom Line:it's the first and the only suspension fork i have. very durable. but i think the inner parts had been changed before i bought it, all elastomers, no springs!so it's not so sensitive over small bumps... so i install a spring into the tube and i can feel the difference, more sensitive and comfortable now. its travel is too short. so now i am looking for a new longer travel oil fork. but i heard that new version folks are not as stiff as some old ones,is that true?

Date Reviewed: March 11, 2001
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:I cant seem to think of any off the top of my head, maybe good as a back scratcher someday.
Weaknesses:Tops out, bottoms out, travel is very limited and it ramps through it with no progressiveness whatsoever, no damping, tends to actually launch you after a big hit rather that absorb it, brake scrub through turns enough to actually slow the bike down, flexes more than a body builder. This may all have something to do with my size (6'4" 200), but i would have a serious problem recomending this fork to anyone seeing as you can get twice the product from a company such as RST for the same price.
Bike Setup:Giant ATX 890, mostly xt components, currently this fork due to the failure of the previous and a very limited budget and some bad judgement, maxis helter skelter tires
Bottom Line:please see product weaknesses

Bottom Line:Overall this thing is a beast of a shock for the price. It came stock on my 97 Trek and I've beat on it for three years with no problems at all. We just got back from a road trip to Colorado and Utah where we hit all the 'hot spots' like Moab, Durango, and Fruita and it held up great. No bottom outs (I'm 6'2" 185) and no bent/broken parts despite numerous big drops and lots of technical riding. If you're bottomming out get a fork built for downhilling or learn to land on your back tire off the drops like you're supposed to. There is a fair amout of flex on this thing but no reason to scrap it(95%of the forks out there have it.) People like to rip on em because they don't like the brand or because they're too stuck up to ride a $100 fork. If you're one of these types, go ahead and drop $700 on a new SID or Bomber. I've ridden almost everything and never found enough reason to change forks. This thing is a great value and a damn good fork overall. Bottom line-go out, have fun,and ride hard regardless of what you're riding.

Strengths:The '97 Indy C is an inexpensive shock and does what it is supposed to do and maybe more. I put about 8,000 miles on these things and they never had any warranty work or any other minor work. Only after cracking one the area where the brake boss is did I have to retire them.
Weaknesses:Lateral stiffness not good. When wheel is turned I can hear the brakes rubbing. Also not much for adjustments or fine tuning. As for the cracked housing I don't consider this a weakness all things considered.

Bottom Line:I think if you want a cheap, maintance free front shock then these are the ones to get. A racer who is about 16 said he has these on his and the feel gets better the more they are used. He also is happy with them. However I ahve never had any other fork besides these so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

At first I never realy thought that shocks could be all that different but within the last year I have realized that My shox arent all that great, they flex, (resulting in poor braking) there is no damping to speak of so they feel like a pogo stick, and not a whole lot of travel so I find myself bottoming them out (5'11" 170 lbs) they are great for beginners and people who just want to take the edge off of their ride. I have tried some of the new jetts and the low end jetts are worse than my indys. atleast go for a jett race if you dont have a ton of scratch and need a decent fork. atleast I havent needed to service them

I have heard horror stories about this fork snapping on downhills and there is certainly enough flex just riding around on easy stuff to indicate that. I actually see these forks flex forward and back when braking! This fork should not even be in the market and great safe forks are overpriced. ZERO stars for the fact that these forks are not safe and the apparent flex in the fork is the evidence. This fork is on the market for one reason, to make money and at the cost of the riders safety.

Bottom Line:The Indy C really benefits from replacing the stock elastomer/spring combo with SpeedSprings. I went up one weight category and they seem to work fine. This is a low maintenance fork that will provide good performance with the upgrade and keeping them properly serviced. I use Judy butter and Manitou's suspension lube and they have no stiction. Like everthing else in the world of MTB's, there is always something more expensive and better. However, I truly believe the average rider (95% of us) would be hard-pressed to recognize significant differences in most suspension forks. There are so many other variables, such as rider ability, tires, weight, bike geometry, etc. If you have a reasonable budget, they are a good fit. Their new replacement, the Jett, is not nearly as responsive as a retrofitted Indy C.

Either A they like to make up shit or B they spend at least one hour a day smashing there shock to hell so it breaks the way they say it does. I've been riding my friends for at least two years now and the only real problems i had were the stiffness in cool temperatures and that they were to soft. Compared to alot of other crap on the market, I think the construction, fit and finish, and performance is on a par with anything else in its price range, if not better.....its NOT FOR DOWNHILLING OR RACING, so dont be surprised if it bottoms and bends on a 10 foot dropoff into a creek bed, you idiots.......I;ve since upgraded to a White Bros fork, and I couldnt be happier, but I'm keeping the Indy for a spare....it does a fine job for what it is.

I'm not interested in racing or 'owt, just going out with the boys and doing what I like to do best---arsing around. These forks take the sting out of the trail, and so make you go faster. I jump and DH on these forks, and they hold up magnificently for the product market which they are intended for (not DH and jumping). I also do mild trials, and they give you a bit of an edge in the weight department. Cheer up and luv tha Indy C!
