Strengths:good looks,very stiff build,good performance (sometimes)
Weaknesses:very weak crown steerer junction
Similar Products Used:66s monsters 888s

Bottom Line:when working they feel awsome and i mean really awsome.
BUT the crowns creaked all the time.
I ride on a weekend sat and sun at the most.I worked out that after approx 20 hours of actuall riding the crowns would start to creak (i am not liying).First time rock shox replaced the steerer crown assembly.Second time they gave me a complete new fork and the third time i gave the fork back to the shop and said you can keep them.
they gave me some 888s.
so great fork when working but that wasnt very often.
shame, could be a really good fork.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:I have not had any problems with it other than seals. Great on the trails. Plush but not too plush.
Weaknesses:SEALS
Compression adjustments don't seem to make a big difference
Like all rockshox forks the rebound knob falls off while you are riding and it costs 15 dollars to replace.
Similar Products Used:Manitou Sherman Breakout Plus
Bike Setup:King Fisher stock except this fork.
Bottom Line:Pretty happy with it other than the seals. In the past couple of years I have not gone more than 3 months without having to send forks away for rebuilds. It is getting REALLY old. On the first day riding this I noticed a gap inbetween the seals and the stanchions. Ofcourse oil was leaking out of it. Brought it into the shop and they said it was just typical behaviour for a Totem. I have been hearing this alot about Totems ever since. Later on the leaking got worst and I brought it back to the shop and had it sent away. At this point I was told it would cost me seeing as the fork itself has a one year warranty but the seals only had 3 months , a fact I was not informed about when I obtained the fork (At this point I had almost had the fork for a year). Luckily rockshox admitted the seals were faulty and replaced them for free regardless of the warranty being expired so I was pretty pleased with them for that. Once I got the fork back it felt a lot better than it had so I was pretty stoked. I only rode the fork on a couple of occasions before the end of the season. Then on one of my first few rides this season I noticed the oil rings on my stanchion coming from the exact same spot on the seals AGAIN. So now I have to go and do the same dance over again and like I said this is getting OLD. Is there such thing as a fork that actually works the way it is sopossed? And yes I keep the seals clean. I am a freak about that. One more thing before I wrap this up. I dirtjump a lot and this fork isn't the greatest for it seeing as it is way too soft and compresses on the lip of dirt jump sucking up my speed and hight. Other than that it is a decent fork. Not the worst experience but not the best either.

Strengths:stiffness. Buttery smoothness after a fresh rebuild. Super adjustable.
Weaknesses:Felt awesome at first, but had to send it in for a rebuild after 1 month. It was leaking like crazy, and the dampening felt weird. Also, the low speed compression knob stopped turning. 2 weeks off the bike, and rockshox sends it back to me STILL BROKEN. I had my bike shop call them to see what the deal was. They said to just try and force the low speed compression knob. I did, and it worked....for about another month. So, I brought it in again. Apparently, the mission control unit had become unthreaded and all the oil had leaked from the uppers to the lowers. Luckily, there is a suspension guru at my shop. He was able to fix it for $40. Funny thing is, when he called Rockshox, they told him this was a new problem they had just become aware of. That's why they missed it when I had it rebuilt a month earlier. I know for a fact that was an outright lie. This problem has been an issue on totem's since they came out. (trust me, i've done a lot of research on this.) So now the fork is running pretty smooth again (but not perfect. It is leaking a lot of oil too, but I've come to accept that. Every Totem I've seen leaks oil.
Similar Products Used:Manitou Sherman, Marzocchi 888 and 66.
Bike Setup:Specialized Demo 7. Pretty much stock except for atomlab aircorp pedals, Maxxis Minion front tire, Intense DH rear tire, and wider bars.
Bottom Line:If you ride hard every day, this fork will ruin your life. The only days off I have taken this year were due to this fork. I have 4 friends who have this fork, and every one is the same. Do yourself a favor and buy a 66. You will not be dissapointed. Even the Sherman I had 3 years ago lasted longer than this fork. Rockshox customer service people are very rude.

Weaknesses:Reliability and durability

Bike Setup:Demo 7 (07) - Came with bike
Bottom Line:Any reviews by owners who have had this fork for less than 3 months should be ignored. In the longer term, this fork is crap. In the last three months mine has needed (approximately 10 rides, as 1 month was waiting for repairs)
2 x bushings re-fit
1 x crown + steerer + inner stanchions replace
1 x seals + damnper cartridge rebuilt / replace

Its now effectively a new fork from all these replacements and is still going wrong.
Works well out of the box, but doesnt last.... which is a shame because it could be so good.

I wish the RC3's from Marz were lighter. I have a Dh bike (224 with 40's) these are for the play bike, they are nice when they work, but they just don't work for long enough!

Strengths:Well, it's kinda stiff.
Weaknesses:Where to start? It has leaked and knocked since day one. It has a noticable amount of play. I sent it to Norco, and they said it's supposed to have that play, and that nothing was wrong with it. Soon after getting it back, I made the mistake of going off a drop with the compression lockout on (it just shouldn't even have one) and blew up the whole mission control assembly (yeah, that's my fault, I know). It's very hard to work on, the oil needs to be injected through the bottom of the legs with a special syringe that until now I've used for Avid brakes.

Strengths:absorbs almost everything, very plush out of the box, great high speed reactivity. Oh yeah and its about the most rock solid single crown i have ever ridden as far as lateral and torsional siffeness goes

Bottom Line:the totem coil is supposed to be rockshox big hit and aggresive freeride fork but it seems to be set up more for all mountain riding. Not too much of a problem due to tunability and range of compression settings. if you are looking for a nice plush monster fork that can handle more than just 15 foot drops go with the totem. its good on the climb and super compliant on the downhills.

Strengths:maxle is easy to use. Compression Adjustments are way better than the air version.
Weaknesses:high speed compression is not as good as I would like, even cranked (ie: it doesn't ramp up hard enough).
Similar Products Used:fox 36, nixon, revelation, lots of double crowns.
Bike Setup:glory dh - with totems.
Bottom Line:Bizarre set up with the 7" up front and the 9" in rear. It actually promotes a fun style of riding. I find that through rough sections i can pop the front wheel up off of rocks and manual through, touching the front down where there is a lane. It is a fun, and pretty fast, way to ride. Then the added bonus of having an easy to pop bike. I run lots of sag in the back making the bike really really low and jumping feels balanced because the rear is so compressed on take off.

Good fork for relatively smooth riders - if you like to hammerstomp landings, get yourself a marzocchi and stay away from this fork.

Weaknesses:reliability in wet weather
Similar Products Used:Fox 36, boxxer team
Bike Setup:07 SC Bullit
Bottom Line:Unreliable in wet weather. 1 week in the French Alps and 3 sets of Totem Coils were stuffed!

3 sets had the damping lock on like described by someone else earlier, and another set was leaking oil.

3 sets were on SC bullit hire bikes, one bike was out of action as the forks were leakign so we took the other two out, both forks lasted one ride before locking up almost solid. This was their second outing since a full service!!! My mates VP Free also fitted with Totems (less than 2 months old) also has a damping failure on the last day of our trip.

When working they are great, but killing 3 sets of forks with the same issue in 3 days is no good.

4 flaming chillis if it gets fixed under warranty and replace faluty parts with upgraded units, if not, they get a 1 or a 2. £600 fork that lasts a week of riding? No thanks.

Favorite Trail:goats gully
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1150.00
Purchased At:lbs
Strengths:- Its stupidly burly with the 40mm stanchions and bulged lowers
- Super stiff
- Plush and responsive (see weaknesses)
- Adjustable for climbing
- Fairly light
- Single crown!!
- well thought-out cable guide for front brake
- SPEEDLUBE!!
Weaknesses:The lockout (mission control) locks your fork in the tallest position, which on most bikes screws your geometry up. I've also had some problems trying to get my floodgate adjustment knob to work. Its fused to the larger knob its attached to so they rotate together... Im not too sure how to fix that.

This fork also has really poor dust seals that not only take in quite a bit of junk (moisture & mud), but they're also damn near impossible to pop out so you can service your fork. This fork has a pretty long break-in time as well.

Last problem is the spring selection. The stock springs that came with the fork are pretty soft. Not stupidly soft, so I'm not complaining about their choice for a stock fork, but I'm a pretty average sized rider at 180lbs and I bottom this thing out pretty often. I know....new springs, right? Well try finding a firm spring kit for a totem. EVERYBODY bought them and theres none left!! Now Im screwed.
Similar Products Used:marz super t, shiver, 888r.... tried my buddy's 66vf a few times but this is waaay better.
Bike Setup:banshee scream w/ totem, Dhx5 coil, code/juicy(awesome),maxxis rubber...
Bottom Line:This fork is awesome for anyone that's trying to bridge the gap between downhill and freeride. Its wicked plush and stiffer than my 04 super t by far. I can dial it in for a trail ride or a day at whistler by playing with the preload spacers and the many compression choices. As soon as I find a firm spring kit Im sure I'll be more than pleased with this fork, but the stock spring is waaay too linear for me. For any potential buyers, know this: You have to be willing to care for your fork or else it wont work properly. You also need to know for sure which spring kit works for you. Find someone else with a totem coil and ask to test it out.

The whole motion control thing is cool and all, but I don't think its all that useful because when we're climbing we want our front ends low, not skyscraper tall. On the other note, it works very well how it was designed to.

Last thing - Rockshox has been the leader in several new breakthroughs in technology, like the awesome new maxle system and lightweight DH forks, so I suggest people check them out before racing over to Manitou or Marzocchi for business. Ive owned all three brands and its hard to tell which one's my favorite.

All in all an awesome fork

Strengths:-strength of fork yet light enough to use everywhere
-stiffness of fork under braking or across rough ground
-damping system handles everything you throw at it
-adjusters have wide range of control
-excellent design features
-Maxle axle
-speed lube system
-free sticker kit!
Weaknesses:-destroyed the mission control damper after hitting a bump on a fireroad with the floodgate on "efficiency" mode (i.e. near lockout)..the floodgate did not open and the mission control damper snapped internally

-creaky crown/steerer (csu) after 6 months

-stock spring rate is very soft, firm spring rate feels harsh: this means the stock spring was too soft / linear for hucks, yet the firm spring feels very harsh over small bumps and rough ground (sore hands). I weigh 11.5stone would be nice to find a spring with a rate between the stock and firm ones?
Similar Products Used:Fox 32, Fox 40

Bike Setup:Banshee Chaparral
Bottom Line:a great fork but some first season teething troubles with crown / steerer

and don't leave the floodgate "on" when you hit something hard!! (the floodgate may not blow open as it is supposed to)

the creaky crown / steerer was dealt with quickly and efficiently under warranty, interested to see if the replacement parts develop the same problem

otherwise, very impressed, in terms of the damper, the general burlyness of the fork and the confidence it gives to pull off the biggest freeride moves

Not as fast down a hill as the 40 on the VP, not as fast up a hill as the 36 on the VP. But the 40 is not use for climbing and the 36 way to short for going down, the only fork that works for everything on the VP.

Just add external pre-load adjuster and a 2 stage ti spring and the fork is sorted.

I ride everything from 50+mile AM to DH racing, these forks can do it all, AM=Normal spring, DH=Firm spring.

The mission control lock out is not a lot of use on the VP as the bike sits to slack for climbing with it on. Still an ace fork though.

Come on RS where is the external pre-load adjuster?

Bike Setup:2006 YETI AS-X, Totem Coil 1.5, DHX 5.0, Race face diablous stem and cranks, Tompson seat post, Hope M4 brakes, X.O. Shifters and Rear Der, Mavic Crossmax SX wheels with specialized enduro 2.4 tires
Bottom Line:Any one looking for a fork in the freeride market or even beefy all mountain should buy this one. Super stong and the stiff feel of a double clamp. This fork took my AS-X from a bike I already loved to an unbelievable feel and performance. It alows the bike to be ready for anything from riding from town in moab to porcupine rim and back or taking the lifts up at your favorite dh trail. It is an expensive upgrade for anyone but worth every last penny.

Favorite Trail:Garbanzo zone
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $860.00
Purchased At:Go-Ride
Strengths:Fork is rock solid, and can be ajusted to accomodate any type of terain easily, and from the top of the fork.
Weaknesses:took a while to get the preload spacers set up right for my riding stlye/weight.
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi 888, Manitou sherman
Bike Setup:Yeti AS-X with totem fork, DHX 5.0 rear shock, sram x.9 drive train, hayes brakes.
Bottom Line:This fork is an excelent example of a well designed and enginered product. The new damper allows you to adjust the fork to any type of riding in a matter of seconds, and the food gate feature allows the rider to set the pedaling platform to achieve whatever the amount of effeciency that they need with the knowledge that if they hit an unexpected bump the fork will automaticly breakthrough the platform and engage its travel. The beefy 40mm stantions provide strength aplenty with zero flex even though the fork weighs only 6.1 pounds or so. props to rockshox for an exelent product, so far it has been worth every penny.
