For the money your getting a good quality decent shock. It's certainly not top of it's range but isn't pretending to be either. Most riders should be happy with it so long as they use it for what it was intended for; Cross Coutry riding. Three years on this shock is still working quite well.

Strengths:
100mm of smooth stictionless travel set it up and forget about it stiff hasn't spiked or had any faults
Weaknesses:
Slightly soft spring for my weight (12.5 stone) Very low air pressures (50 psi max)
Excellent fork for the price. Have used for street, downhill and xc and I haven't had a problem with them yet, buttery smooth, no spiking, no air/oil leakages and they leave forks at similar prices standing.

Strengths:
price, verylight weight compared to stock RST gila boat anchor. Saved about2 lbs from that stocker.

Specialized Hardrock sport. Ti race seat, carbon seatpost, wtb xc rims&hubs, kenda karma xc tires and tubes, carbon bars, light alum. stem(138g)-more to come.
Bottom Line:
This shock does what it should for an XC shock(especially for $149new) and is a significant upgrade from the stock RST gila on a Spec. HR sport. Saves about 2 lbs. It seems the poor reviews, were bikes that came stock with this fork. Not sure if they are made cheaper to sell at volume but, I have been pleased with the improvement. A reasonable 4.19lb shock (before steerer tube cut). Set the weight/ air pressure per manual before you try it out and I have the rebound turned as close to off as possible for most light riding and if its a bumpy trail you can crank it open some for quicker rebound /recovery.

This is the low end fork from RockShox so its simplicity is the best part. Just pump it when you think it's not hard enough-No hassle!
Weaknesses:
There's nothing to adjust except the air pressure.

A stock 2005 Giant NRS-G with Shimano Hone crankset, Shimano M540 pedal & Ritchey Rizer handlebar. The fork came with the bike.
Bottom Line:
All you can do is just pump or deflat, so if you sort of person who likes to tweak a lot, this isn't for you. But for someone simple whose just grab the bike & ride, this fork is for you.

-nice ride once you get it adjusted how you want it -durable -air assist so it dampens big & small stuff -can easily adjust stiffness w/ shock pump -can be set at 80 or 100 mm
Weaknesses:
-kinda heavy, but what fork for 200$ isnt? -also a little rough for climbs unless you up the psi to make it a little stiffer -needs to be gutted to switch from 80-100mm (just take it to a shop if you dont know how)

good fork for the price, lots of people bash on it but it works great for technical singletrack. not a race or freeride fork, its made for XC! im sure its not that great for huge drops, dirt jumping or crazy dh, but i dont ride like that, so who cares. perfect fork for people who like fast paced xc riding w/ some techincal stuff too...

I've had this bike and i've rode less than 100 miles on it and i've already had it damaged somehow. Its not been abused or anything and my LBS has had it for the last 3 days just trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with it. It also flexes and has very few adjustments

Shock isn't really that good, I don't recommend it. I bought a 04 Wasrpp ds2 and it came with the Pilot XC. Shocks are squishy and make noise. Squeaking from fork is slowly driving me crazy on the trails

Don't get this shock, save your money and get a better, tighter shock. If you do not have any shock and need one you might consider the pilot, but be warned. I don't have the money right now so the pilot will have to do. It might not be the best, but for the money, it does work on the trail.

Bottom Line:
This fork is perfect for anyone who wants a nice 100mm of travel for your average XC riding. It does a great job soaking up the small bumps as well as the large ones due to the air/spring setup. I'm not sure how well it would hold up on large drop offs or on some really hardcore trails, but RockShox didn't put the "XC" decal on it for no reason.
