I also use it in the city and it can handle going up or down a flight of stairs with no really problems. I would recommend this fork if you want soemthing that doesn't cost you a nut and can handle a wide variety of different riding styles. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

For me it is awsome because I weigh 140 pounds and with the fork set at 100mm, it takes pretty much anything and soaks it up. I had a Skareb Comp on it but it really never worked right so I replaced it with the Pilot SL. Yes the fork makes a little noise, but so does chain slap and cable slap. Big deal! The strait up facts are that it is a decent working RECREATIONAL fork for a low price. If it is used for that, then it works good. $308.00 | | Strengths: | 100mm travel, air preload adjustment, rebound damping. Plush response. | | Weaknesses: | Require higher air pressure than recommended. My forks have the wrong decals on them, they are SL's, but are badged as XC's. Rebound damping a bit on/off. | | Similar Products Used: | Cheap oem coil forks (Shen Shye Top Gun's, re-badged by Merida) | | Bike Setup: | KHS Alite 3000 hard-tail, Shimano BR-M475 Cable Disks, Pilot SL forks, Alivio running gear. | | Bottom Line: | I bought these forks as an upgrade from the cheap original forks fitted to my bike. So far they have performed well, significantly improving off road handling, and as a result, my confidence.
I have had none of the problems with noise, softness, leaks etc reported by some others, but had the bike shop check them internally before fitting.
One small issue is that at the recommended air pressure for my weight (20lb for 100kg), they were way too soft and easily bottomed out. Increasing the pressure to 30lb solved the problem (the manual states the max to be 50lb). They are still plush, but have not bottomed out, even over a (accidental) 4 foot drop.
For the casual xc rider, from my limited experience, I would thoroughly recommend these forks. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Weighing 215 lbs, I have not had any good experiences with it on singletrack. Even at the maximum pressure the flexing and sloppiness in steering has led to many bloody shins. So, after about 200 miles I have given up on it and gone on to a Fox Float RLC. That is the fork for big people.
I wish product managers would realize that when someone buys your large frame it is usually for a person who weighs more than average and they should spec something with more stiffness. I have to give this fork away now to someone lighter. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
